I think it’s a bit nuts that ArenaNet is zerging anyone who has even remotely heard the words “gold selling” in game or whatever…
I have my PC locked up like a fortress and I haven’t got any annoying emails or anything….
I really hope that ArenaNET does a proper investigation before randomly targeting people’s accounts…

Just a simple question. I saw some people doing it. Or do I seriously have to report the 50 people I am standing next to individually?
Couldn’t you guys make a ‘call GM’ option or ‘report area’ option for the scores of bots that are hanging around in a mob.?
Either way, simple question. Can I report the jibberish people on the forums here with a screen, or do I have to spend 20 minutes doing it individually and risk getting my own account banned for “abusing the report feature”?
Cheers.
If you miss out on the halloween event deliberately then you’re pretty dumb. It’s only once a year and the events are always going to be different etc. There are tons of things available that won’t be next year, or ever again for that matter.
As if you would miss it. (The general rule for all MMOs is to be there for everything).
I still wish I had been at the event for the ‘Arcanite Reaper’ guitar on WoW… kitten
I want to take pictures of my gorgeous norn
(nothing suss!) but for emotes like /sit and /sleep etc. If I zoom in the camera goes right over her :/
Is there anyway I can change the angle, or alignment even just a little so I can get her in the centre of the shot?
Thanks!
If there isn’t an option, a small ‘photobooth’ sorta feature would be nice for an update. Which would allow us to do this.

`Regardless of your problem. That isn’t a very good graphics card :/ so I doubt you’d get really smooth gameplay anyway.
Could be a transparency issue. Or maybe something to do with awesomeium_process.exe
It’s probably something to do with ‘too many things’ on the screen. :/ Happens a lot.
This isn’t a bug.. it’s merely an inconvenience and something that I find quite funny actually. It’s all part of the fun, if you afk near a dangerous spot then you basically deserve to die.
If you are downed and use ‘vengeance’ and then whilst alive for a short time, pick up a nearby Heroes elixr (pretty rare, but can still be found in quite a few areas) the buff from heroes elixr, stops you from taking any damage or getting any conditions for a short time.
If you pick one up, and press ‘1’ to consume it. You won’t die, as long as you use it close to the time that your vengeance skill would have run out (which normally results in your complete unavoidable death). This allows you to revive indefinitely (as long as you don’t get downed say.. 5 times and there are only 4 elixirs around etc).
I just did it to clear an impossible area 7 levels higher than myself. I was able to do it all 5 times, using up all the elixirs in my area.
Dunno if this is a bug, or if you are meant to be able to cheat death by using the elixir.

The launcher should open a maximum of two connections when permitted to do its job. What you are seeing is definitely not “by design” behavior, but then again, your “test” is not really testing what the game does under normal circumstances.
BiJay is absolutely correct. By blocking these connections you’re not just exacerbating the issue, but creating it; the game will attempt to connect to multiple different endpoints if one connection fails.
For the record, I see a total of 2 outbound connection attempts when running a similar test myself, without blocking the connections.
Also, the reason for the launcher’s resource usage is well known: it’s rendered at high framerates and the transparency blending effect is not computationally cheap.
It’s incredibly uneducated to say that this is ‘acceptable’ behaviour when the launcher is denied the right to communicate with its endpoint. Regardless, the transparency effects and HQ rendering as were your wording, is totally unnecessary for a launcher that stays open for normally about 5 seconds. The sudden hardware strain for what is basically a .png level graphic even on a computer like mine. There is really no excuse for it.
It doesn’t take a genius to know that GW2 isn’t exactly coded amazingly. You’re still using aspects from GW1’s engine etc. It seems the same shoddy job has been done here with the launcher as well. I don’t know who is responsible for it, but spooling out connections like this through multiple ports and to multiple addresses after being blocked, is in no way an ‘okay’ thing for any program to do. I wouldn’t even need a degree to tell you that it’s not the ‘right’ course of action after a connection is blocked/or goes unanswered.
You said yourself that because I was blocking these connections, it was causing the issue of high CPU usage. Then you state that it’s due to a stupid amount of blending/rendering and transparency.. do you want to make a definitive statement?
As Plastic said, opening a few more connections on a few more random ports would be fine. If a connection cannot be made, you should at least have the launcher stop trying to connect in the background after displaying the black “connection failed” message. Not only that, but stop the launcher from spooling out more connection attempts, and instead give the end-user the option to ‘try again’ manually after they have sorted the problem out. This is basic level stuff here… I still believe a new launcher is needed, the ends don’t justify the means when it comes to aesthetics. I’ve seen transparent keygens coded better…
But hey, you basically avoided all the issues in question. I brought the point to light anyway, it’s not my job to write up the launcher or make edits on it. But the fact that the launcher basically puts more of a strain on my CPU than the game itself… do I even need to say more?

Awesomium is a windowless web-browser framework. It can be used for web-page captures, embedded browsing and more. It is based on Chromium/WebKit with API for .NET and C. More info can be found on http://awesomium.com/
This is probably the browser that is used when you open the in-game gem store, trading post etc.
^^^^^^ Taken from another thread.
Lots of people listen to Skrillex, and David Guetta. It’s a bad thing but we don’t condemn that either… lots of people are racist too. I don’t ‘condemn’ overclocking, I just condemn how stupid people get when they start to overclock and see the ‘numbers’, the greed sets in and people don’t even realise the damage they are doing vs. the 0.0001% performance gain they are getting.
Computers have enough problems as it is, you add so many variables into the equation with overclocking. It’s almost impossible to fix issues in games when the user is overclocking… Stability is always the most important thing. If the computer is stable and running efficiently, then it’s running better than an unstable overclocked PC.
As for WvWvW. My first GTX 680 primarily handles everything except for Supersampling/AA etc. and my second one does the latter. Commonly my first GPU runs at 75% efficiency which is one the highest rates I’ve seen in any game. Probably something to do with the engine as someone else said. My second GPU runs at about 65% efficiency, but hey, supersampling is a big task.
My CPU commonly lights up 2 cores like a christmas tree in WvWvW, so I tend to use about 4 out of 8. It doesn’t matter what I set the affinity to in Task Manager.
So, to answer your theory or not. No. It is possible to get V-Sync in WvWvW with a 60Hz monitor, frame capped at 60 with V-Sync on. Though it could have something to do with the ‘type’ of card I am using. Because it’s been proven that some cards are better at playing some games than others.
I have in no way tried playing the game on a 2560×1600 resolution. I would never dream of getting 60fps on a res that size. But at 1920×1080. It’s totally doable. I’d say you could probably even do it on a 1920×1200 res. The next thing I’m buying is a better monitor anyway.
Do you have something stupid like ‘clicklock’ installed? It’s basically HP bloatware that disables the keyboard when you use the mouse and vice versa. To prevent the cursor ‘jumping’ on laptops etc.
It seems that hundreds of people are having this issue after stupid HP and Acer started releasing said kitteny bloatware.
The 9800GTX is a terribly old card. Really I would not be complaining at all if I had it.. It was released April Fools in 2008. Over 4½ years ago. We’ve come a long way since then…
I’d say you’ve probably overheated and damaged it without knowing. It’s about that time for all 2008 cards to suddenly die. You probably had some soldering melt and ruin a connection.
If you start getting artifacts then you’ve only got 2 options after that.
The GTX 550 Ti isn’t a very good card… It’s basically half as powerful as the 560 Ti.
http://www.hwcompare.com/9686/geforce-gtx-550-ti-vs-geforce-gtx-560-ti/
You didn’t get much of an upgrade. People really should save more and research more and get a decent card before they rush off to buy something.
ZyloWolfBane.2370 The game needs a lot of work, both coding wise, and give it some time and better drivers will be made. Believe it or not there is a lot going on in the background of GW2 that is starting to be brought to light by players.
But I’ll say it again. Your card isn’t that great at all so don’t expect a miracle, and adding 2 more GB of RAM isn’t going to even make a 1% difference. You should probably spend a day or two reading up on what the defining points of hardware and gaming are.
Re-sell your GTX 550Ti and save a weeks worth of work for a 660 Ti. Then you won’t need to complain. /Thread
SolarNova.1052 is incorrect. Don’t listen to him at all. He might try to show that he has a half-fancy computer in his sig but really the shoes he’s trying to fill are too big. My wife’s computer is an i7-2600k and she can get 60fps with a single GTX 690. As long as she plays at 1920×1080 and not higher in WvWvW. And yes, I am talking zoomed right in, or even a far away FoV right into a spell/attack cake right up against a bases’s gate etc.
Intel Xeon E5-2670 @ 2.85GHz (overclocking is for pre 2010 noobs)
Asus Sabertooth X79
2x GTX 680 SLI
32GB Corsair Vengence
I can easily get 60fps in WvWvW and I’m not even Tri-SLI. I never get frame drops, tearing or any issues ever. It’s got nothing to do with the engine at all at this stage. Though of course it helps if the engine is coded well. It’s all down to how well your GPU works and how efficient it is. Amongst trying to eliminate as much bottlenecking as possible. With that GTX 560Ti the best SolarNova.1052 would probably get standing still is 60 fps at maxed out settings and the moment he moves, it’d dip a little. Even if he had the 448 Core version. My advice to him is to back away from the ignorant saying “if my rig can’t, no one’s can”. I hate to break it to you, but engine or not, it’s not GW2’s fault that you can’t get V-Sync in WvWvW Solar.
FuuTon.6297 why don’t you try it out? Like I said, my wife is still using a Sandy Bridge CPU which for the most part, is still amazing, and she can get V-Sync in WvWvW. To be honest, after overclocking 20% over your CPUs stock speeds, the extra Mhz/Ghz you get out of your CPU makes a minimal amount of difference. It’s all down to motherboard spec etc. when trying for a CPU overclock. Trying to get higher numbers like 4.6Ghz (lol, just lol…. stability at that level even with amazing cooling is just so low it’s laughable) on your CPU is basically an kitten thing. Seriously, temps are only half the equation. It’s a sad common misconception that getting ‘epic’ cooling and then overclocking your CPU almost 2x won’t have any bad effects if temps stay within reason. Especially with RAM. My CPUs max paired Mhz with RAM is 1600MHz (same as Solar), yet Solar has his at 1866Mhz (probably because he thinks the number looks cool or something) Tighter timings are always better than higher clock speeds. Anyone who knows what side their bread is buttered, knows this.
People really need to learn a thing or two before spending money, time and then overclocking and thus mutilating their hardware in the process just for numbers. There are tons of videos, articles, blogs etc. that show so much proof, and debunk so many stupid myths about whether or not overclocking is even worth the money/time/risk etc.. and what the gains are out of higher clock speeds/vs stability/vs reason.
My advice to anyone is to buy a good piece of hardware. If it doesn’t do the job, then you try overclocking a little. But really, the best you can do is wait for better hardware, or someone to invent some amazing code that becomes the norm.

^^^^ See that video and read the description.
I work in mainly low-level database security and I also work as a programmer primarily in Ruby and I also do some MySQL stuff etc..
But in a few years, I’ve never seen an executable dish out such an incredible attack.
Explanation:
When opening the launcher, anyone, even on an extremely powerful PC like mine should be able to see (or even hear) that a sudden strain is put on your CPU. This is due to the GW2.exe launcher opening over 100+ connections per SECOND to over 150 different I.P. addresses and around 16555 Ports.. (The destination port doesn’t change but that doesn’t stop the launcher trying to open anything between 49000 & 65555 to try and communicate with 6112).
Seriously, what the KITTENS were you thinking NCSoft? You don’t need to have your launcher open that many connections per second! Not even 0.01% that many connections are needed to make a proper connection to servers. Seriously, 4 or 5 is fine. But over 100 per second, to over 150 different IPs and over 16k ports?
That’s what my boss would call a DDoS on a humongous scale! Whether or not this poses little to no threat on your servers, it puts a gigantic strain on the CPU and is in no way a ‘streamlined’ or efficient way of logging-in before connecting. Even after you get told that you couldn’t connect, the launcher is still trying to open connections in the background.
I’m really surprised that no one honestly picked up on this issue earlier, or that there was even a green light given to allow this sort of thing to be an accepted way to starting the game. Really, when I saw what huge CPU the launcher was using, I wanted to find out why exactly, so I monitored everything on my computer. Internet traffic, connection attempts, process threads. Everything.
The end result is a startling conclusion.
Honestly you guys at NCSoft need to sit down and seriously get to work on another launcher. This is absolutely unacceptable.
I’m seriously still shocked over this… I personally never disable peerblock for any instance, but for Guild Wars 2 I will make an exception. I’m running an extremely good rig, and nothing, almost nothing draws more than 20% of my CPUs attention. To have my temps go from suddenly 40C to 60C… it’s just unquestionably ridiculous. This is in no way, the ‘right’ way the launcher should work at all… there is no need for this ‘approach’ in communicating with the log-in servers.

Thanks so much really guys. You’ve probably really helped a lot of first timers like me
Thanks a ton for the replies guys.
I know that I should be in a group, basically kiting enemies at my skill/trait level. But it’s really hard to find the zerg group. Especially if I die I have to go all the way back to the entrance. So even if I was with the group, if we all died no one can rez me. More or less no one rezes anyone anyway. I’m always rezzing people…
Thanks again for taking the time to read my lengthy post and provide help
So I’ve recently given WvW a go. I’m only level 22 but I thought it might be like GW1 where you basically get level capped player/your level upped to the level cap so it’s all more-or-less fair.
From what I’ve seen so far basically there is tons to do and the map also needs exploring as well. Fair enough. However I still feel like I am missing a bit..
As I said I’m 22 scaled up to 80 now. I have all of my level best gear and etc. but I don’t seem to be able to stand a chance on anyone at all who is actually 80, or seems to be higher than me, but still scaled up to 80. The damage I do seems to be a complete pittance compared to those people… I won’t bother explaining my build. But I’m a 22 Warrior with Greatsword/Axe+Axe combo etc. Sometimes I seem to do tons of damage, and AoE wipe a ton of people.. other times I seem to do absolutely no damage at all. It varies so much…
Q: Is this normal? Is this because I am not actually 80, but instead 22 scaled up to 80? I realise everyone else has their traits, more skills and etc. Is this why it seems like I catch even ‘match’ others? I don’t stand a chance when 2 or more enemies attack me and I die in about 1-2 seconds… while other people seem to be able to take on 5+ people at once without even dodging or anything.
Q: How do I/we even win WvW? It seems that whenever the timer gets down to 0, even if I am on the winning side. Nothing at all happens… I don’t get any xp/money/karma etc… the timer just either goes to —:--:— or it resets.
Q: Why is everyone just ‘standing there’ on a fortress or whatever that we own? Why isn’t anyone capping anything? It seems like there are more people defending a place that the other team isn’t attacking. Rather than attacking another base themselves. Why is this? I don’t want to AFK at a base defending it for 25 minutes to get absolutely nothing.. is that the whole point of WvW?
Q: A few friends of mine said that WvW is hands down one of the fastest ways to level up. I quickly did 4 dynamic events and got basically half a level. But then for 20 minutes I couldn’t find or do anything and it seemed like it would have been just as fast to do PvE normally…
Q: Do I really seriously have to keep resurrecting all the way back at my home base right at the top (etc.) part of the map when I die? Can I really not resurrect closer to where the fighting is or something? It takes like 5 minutes to walk back to the fight… which I don’t consider fun at all and most of the time everyone has moved or died so I don’t even know where anyone is! Is there a way to resurrect closer to the fight? Or do I just have to hope that one of my alive teammates will resurrect me…?
Q: My friends also said that WvW is the easiest way to earn lots of money early on… but it only seems to be possible to get stuff that I can vendor or whatever from killing others.. which is hard to do because of the first thing I wrote here.. the gear that I get from ‘bags of loot’ doesn’t seem all that decent and the amount of money I get from selling it doesn’t even cover the repair costs for my armor. I think it’s really stupid that you should have to pay to repair your armor if you die in WvW. So how am I supposed to make money in WvW? Or is it not possible…?
Q: It seems like 4 games can go by (by this I mean when the timer resets 4 times) and we still haven’t captured any new bases at all. People are just still standing there in fortresses afking or whatever… why is everyone just wasting their time standing still doing nothing?
Basically apart from the dynamic events which are indeed dynamic because you never FHSDJGSHDGSDJ know where they are! That there is nothing more that WvW adds to anything except the experience of killing other players or in most cases, being slaughtered by other players and doing the odd dynamic event for a bit of xp and Karma etc…
It would be great if I always knew where the fighting was at so I could join in, and I didn’t have to always teleport right back to all the asura gates when I die… just to spend 5 minutes walking back again…
Thanks seriously very much for answering any and all help.
Defy pain. You cannot, not take that trait… especially in PvP.
I’d basically like to know what everyone considers the best weapon combo for a Warrior from level 20 up to 80.
As well as what level you swapped weapons. Currently I’ve been using the Greatsword & Sword/Axe combo while spamming Hundred Blades and Whirling Axe to tear through mobs.
But I hear a lot of people talking that the Sword + Warhorn combo is really good. I’m not really worrying about survivability at the moment because I don’t get downed often. But that could change at any time.
Is the Sword + Warhorn combo any decent? I’ve also seen lots of people using other things too… frankly I don’t think I want to use the bow or anything it’d be too slow.
Basically I just want to focus on speed and ripping through things without a hassle.
So what is everyone’s favourite weapon combinations
