I can see any of these scenarios happening, you should not get suspended or banned if you are sent gold from an RMT in the ingame Mail system as long as you don’t except it and you report it right away. There needs to be a system in place that detects whether you have excepted the mail containing the gold if you except the gold then you get banned, and if you get an email containing gold that you didn’t solicit from what ever source and you report the email and not except the gold no ban. I could see how devastating this could be if you are sent unsolicited gold and are accused of buying gold outside of the game, it could happen,

Thank you for your replies, you’re bringing more discussion to the table which is good.
However as the other person said, if someone buys gold they’re usually after wanting to use it, no? I am not buying gold and that is why I haven’t touched the gold in my mail. However I am really concerned about the matter because it seems like ANet can’t see whether you accept something in a mail or not, they see it as it’s on your account as long as it’s in your mailbox as well. That is a huge issue that could be very easy exploitable as Mr. Chemsorly stated earlier.

Hello. This might be a lengthy post, but please try to bare with me.

TL;DR Anyone can get you banned by buying any amount of RMT gold to your account and you will get banned for it whether you accept the gold or not, even if you’re offline.
I’ll start the thread off with saying I haven’t been an active player for the past 2 years, just recently (about a month or so ago) I’ve been logging on just about every day to receive the daily reward then log off.
Now onto the issue.
About 1 month ago I got a mail from ANet saying

Purchasing from these “Real Money Traders” violates our Rules of Conduct, so we have confiscated any available gold and/or items acquired from them.

If you made a purchase with real funds, we suggest contacting the seller or your financial institution for a refund. Continued purchasing from such sellers could result in further action against your account, including the removal of gold and items purchased from unauthorized sellers, temporary suspension, or a permanent ban from the game.

I got very surprised as I don’t play the game at all and have never bought gold or gotten send any significant amount of gold that could seem suspicious.
I replied to the mail with "Yes, I understand but I haven’t bought any gold from anyone.
If you check my played time recently I literally log in and open the daily box and then log off, when on earth would I have time to buy gold?

This is the point I start getting paranoid and frustrated, I’m not playing the game for the love of god what is going on?
I got suspended for 24 hours for something that is completely out of my control. If a RMTer sends you gold, you’ll get suspended for it whether you accept the money or not

A fix for you people who want to get this sold. I reckon this will crash the market really fast when I first say how to fix it, so get your stuff sold quick.

Contact Arenanet, they’ll ask you to delete yours and they’ll send you a new one which is tradeable.

so I basically put up that i wanted to buy 10 vial of powerful blood for X amount, shortly after TP went down for a few days and when it went back up today the money I put up for the vials are gone and I didn’t get any vials.. anything that can be done?
