Cool build here. Was wondering what your opinion on the Honorable Shield trait is? Was thinking about getting that one because I use mace and shield a lot and it doubles as a toughness boost as well as a quicker recharge trait.
I agree. It really wasn’t as bad as people made it out to be. I was picturing 20 mins of pure jumping plus all the resets from the falls, but its nowhere near that ridiculous. For me it was about 2 hrs due to falls, but only like 3 minutes of jumping. Took a while to get the hang of the first half, but I actually got through the second part on my first try.
Thank you so much for making this challenging and fun jumping puzzle!
After 2 hours of falling over and over, I made it. Wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be from all the comments on it, but it was tough though.
Quaggan Pirate for sure!
I should have 4/5 left with just the Attend the Party achievement needed for completion, but it still says 3/5. The 3 I haven’t completed are Pumpkin Carving, the Clock Tower and Attend the Party. Working on Pumpkin Carving though just in case it’s necessary for Emissary of the Mad King as well for some reason.
I’m glad they didn’t nerf us too hard, and happy to see that they are at least willing to consider separate PvE/PvP skill changes, even if it isn’t for Mesmer yet it gives me hope that they might do so in the future rather than just hurt PvE even further.
But really, would it kill them to fix some of our many bugged traits?! They’ve been documented forever but it’s like they’re hesitant to make any positive changes to Mesmer, even fixing bugs, because it might shift the balance again. The answer isn’t to just let them stay broken though, I don’t see how that’s right when players are assuming these traits do what they say they do, yet they might not provide any benefit at all or a hidden disadvantage in reality.
Still giving my Mesmer a break for a while to play other characters until the class is sorted out more and some traits get fixed. Though, when I do play Mesmer again, maybe I should switch from staff/sword+focus to greatsword/sword+focus, as it looks to be immune to nerfs in comparison to the staff.
I’ve personally been noticing a lot of guardians in PvE too, with many using a greatsword as well. I don’t feel like a carbon copy though, I use a mace+shield/sword+focus build mainly which plays quite differently, maybe not as fast in damage but great with support and survivability along with pretty good damage.
I’m 20 and love this game. I’ve been playing since the first beta and stress tests for pre-purchasers and played Guild Wars for years before that. I’ve played EQ, EQ2, DDO, and WoW, but Guild Wars 2 is easily my favorite MMO.
As a PvE mesmer, this is just depressing. I checked the patch notes right after the update, hoping it might have fixed at least some of the traits that are bugged. Maybe I should just expect the worst with each update though, because they have been mostly bad news every time. Arenanet had PvE and PvP skills separate in some cases for Guild Wars, why couldn’t they have done that here rather than further weaken the already weak PvE mesmer to balance PvP? It just boggles the mind…
For now, I’ll play alts until something changes I think. Playing my mesmer was already a chore compared to my other characters, and it seems its only getting worse.
I use it quite a bit in PvE exploration for either vistas of POI. Some POI are within some encampment full of enemies, so if I don’t feel like fighting them I stick a portal entrance at the start and rush in using Temporal Curtain and Blink to get past. Once I get the POI, I can drop my portal exit and get right out. As long as the POI isn’t too far away, I can make it and get out without needing to fight through a cave full of beasties.
I’m not sure why they seem to be ignoring these, I thought for sure they would have been fixed by now. Not only are the traits unequally applied to certain phantasms, but we’ve got minor traits like Phantasmal Fury, Vengeful Images and Phantasmal Healing that break or override each other for any Phantasm besides Duelist!
I can’t even pick traits in game without needing to do extra research as to which traits work and which are broken or break each other, becoming just a waste of points and a false tooltip rather than a useful benefit.

Such a shame. I’ve been using Sword and Focus since I started my Mesmer and couldn’t wait to get Warden’s Feedback and Phantasmal Haste to improve it. Now I’m not so sure I should stick with Focus, the constant reflection and flurry of hits from Warden was why I wanted it, but if it’s going to sit there in melee range for 7 seconds even with the trait it might not be worth it.
/sigh. So many bugged traits yet most of our patch changes have been nerfs rather than fixes.
Mind Stab: Improved responsiveness.
Well that’s great. I just wish I knew which “Mind Stab” you were talking about.
My thoughts exactly. I assumed it’s likely the Greatsword skill since the Sword one is part of a chain and I didn’t notice anything regarding responsiveness issues with it. I haven’t used Greatsword much, mostly just Staff/Sword+Focus, so I’m not sure if there were issues with Greatsword’s Mind Stab.
My Mesmer is named Tahlaer, my Ranger is named Rhovanor and my Elementalist is named Aerendyll. The first two I’ve used many times before in other games, the last I got off a site.
I like elven sorts of races so I knew I would make a Sylvari from the first I heard of them. They also remind me of fey somewhat with the ability to have a winter/fall or spring/summer look and the relationship between the mainstream curious Grove-dwellers (Seelie Court) and the mean-spirited Nightmare Court (Unseelie). Even so, they’re a very unique race on their own too and I like the lore I’ve seen so far playing as a Sylvari.
