Marauder Armor?

i seen the Marauder armor at https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Ascended_armor and i am wondering if i will still damage high but retain a certain level of defense over the current build i am using from

its a nice build and the damage is more then plenty, but the issue i get is that it feels so much like a glass canon build that the moment they see me i am pretty much dead.

i’m looking to rethink the armor part of my thief to where i can kill players but not be a instant kill as well.

any suggestions on armor?

Well, the storyline gives a reasonable explanation for what you perceive as rehashing the same strategy. If you don’t know that already, I suggest you check out the storyline so far. It explains why the dragons seem somewhat similar in their powers.

Having said that, dragons don’t make great villains because they aren’t people with their complex (and interesting!) motivations. It’s a lot like making a lion the bad guy in a story. Yeah, he has teeth and claws. But if the story is going to be any good it’s the interactions between characters with those human motivations that reach the player.

I’m hoping that means that moving forward they’ll start to move away from quickly charging down the next path to yet another dragon and killing it. The appearance of questionable allies like Lazarus (I think his name was?) is more setting the stage for something like that than announcing which dragon we’ll be going after next.

Plus, even while I enjoyed HoT overall, the storyline wasn’t great AND it was a total knockoff of WoW, the night elves, and the Emerald Dream. I mean plenty of details are different, but it isn’t enough to avoid feeling like they just said “Hey, green dragons you fight in a nightmare dreamworld and they corrupt tree-hugging elf people? We should do that, too!”

its sad when i think about the WoW elfs when playing my character, let alone some of the music i swear feels like it was taken from WoW directly, or mixxed up a little bit.

and as for the whole living world 3, its not that i couldn’t have gone to these other stories. i was trying to see if me buying the Expansion was worth it considering the similarities that i wanted to be certain if i wasn’t the only one noticing it and if i was doomed to relive them in the other stories. >.>

Maybe I’m not the first to have noticed the same repeated ideas in HoT from the first story and area. i think Anet has lost its creativity touch and here is a list of similar things i am referring to, pardon the exact names on them.

So in the “My Story” adventure you get to understand that theres an army of Undead controlled by a Dragon. in HoT you get to learn that the slyvari/plant characters are controlled by a Dragon.

there’s Undead Tendrils, there is plant based Tendrils.

the story dragon throws up undead, breachers throw up monsters. Which i’m tired of hearing the sound it makes in meta. it gets annoying knowing the thing just barfed.

i dunno, I’m certain if probe a little longer i would find similarities between the 2 further i go. I understand MMO’s rehash things. but with as big of game Guild Wars 1 was i was hoping to have seen a much different side with the Add On. after all do we really need a Puking Dragon Monster?

maybe this is just me and i’m over thinking things…

Condition Build WvW Question

I wouldn’t recommend Vipers in WvW. Glass used to be pretty easily doable, but with HoT came a lot of passive effects including damage, the idea of just being very skilled and coming out of a fight with only a few scrapes just isn’t realistic anymore unless the opponent is exceedingly bad (bad build and bad play). The Trailblazer’s stat set is sort of the Vipers replacement in that it has your condi duration, and damage with tankiness that’s required. Downside is it’s stupidly expensive.

As an affordable alternative Rabid is great, or a mix of rabid/carrion to get hitpoints, or you could even use some Dire. Runes I’d probably go with Balthazar as burning is your big gun, you could go with Nightmare/trapper combo for better overall duration but I’m not sure what is absolutely best in this case. The idea is basically to layer some condi’s and burst your burning as best you can (incendiary ammo, blowtorch, air blast, and napalm if you can get them to stand still for a second or two). Layering condi’s with grenades forces the depletion of condi cleanses to protect your burning stacks and the burning does most of the work.

Overall it’s not all that hard to counter and survive against a condi engi though, it’s kind of a hit/miss build, you’ll mop the floor with bad players or people who are ill prepared, but someone who’s ready to face condi and knows what to look for will be able to either avoid most of your damage, soak it up and cleanse it, or a combination of the two. To those who aren’t at that level though, again, be ready to just watch them melt.

As for PVE vs WvW effectiveness of the build, I can’t think of anything that would differ off the top of my head, but you do have to consider the difference in your opponent. In PVE you generally do your best to stabilize the location of the enemy, meaning more time that they’re standing in that firebomb or napalm which is a HUGE amount of burning damage. They also don’t often dodge a blowtorch or any other attacks. That makes a big difference. So I wouldn’t take the same build (traits/skills) as the PVE build, I’d still take FT/Nades and P/P with Firearms but for roaming (only place this kind of build really makes sense IMO) but then I’d probably pick up Alchemy traitline and if you go with scrapper Stealth Gyro can be amazing for roaming.

I’ve only dabbled with this though and every time I do I go with something different than before, I haven’t nailed down a build I would feel comfortable saying is optimal. I usually just run my standard power scrapper build that I run in large scale and swap out a few things for roaming (like grabbing stealth gyro).

ohh yeah the alchemy trait has more then saved my butt countless times over. from Shrinking when health is low and take nearly no damage, to the one ability that changes debuffs into boons.

and your not kidding about Trailblazer being expensive

Condition Build WvW Question

for a while now I’ve looked at http://qtfy.enjin.com/engineer#Gear1 for plenty of build ideas and i realize that the damage isn’t 100% correct when these same builds meet WvW and that is fine with me as i’ve considered there is a damage reduction between PvE to WvW

the Build above suggests using Viper armor for the highest dps, i’m using Rabid gear in place of vipers gear. i like the idea that i can hit/condition/have defense where I’m not a 1 hit smear kill. the damage is a hit and miss style, because if a player can remove the condition damage then i am at a loss on attack, however i have seen some very high ticks on players ranging from 1,500-3,000+ and those are just on the fire damage alone. not counting Poison/Bleed/etc

My question is has anyone tried using the Viper gear in wvw and it being nice in terms of damage? and how easy was it to survive against battles?

My other question is what might be a good suggestion for Runes/Trinkets with the Rabid gear build i have setup?

im looking to max the damage as much as i can but without becoming a class canon build.

I am open to suggestions and thoughts as well.

How are Mesmers supposed to keep up?

here is my peeve to Mesmer, my 2 cents. But why isn’t there anything in play to where the decoys take the heat?

i can be attacking mobs, lay as many decoys i want. but the mobs fully ignore them and come right after me. true i could just walk away and then i wouldn’t get hate any if i didn’t attack. but can’t they get added aggro hate or something? maybe “Decoy” takes the rest of the hate you’ve gained over the mob/s?

not saying i can’t kill the mobs, but its gets rather annoying and pointless me using decoys at all. except for when i want to run away like a coward.

Go to your character log in screen and see what’s last line in the box bottom left. that’s the server you’re on.

Only one of the server’s names is clearly displayed in the WvW panel, that’s why you think you belong to the server your server was last linked to.

Changed server since reset

So normally i am on the Crystal Dessert server in WvW and i’ve never once had an issue for the months i have played there. even have a Guild through them too.

But just suddenly my server was changed right after WvW reset for its weekly color change ups. and now i am under the Dragonhand for some reason? any reasons to this?

was there a server change up that i am unaware of?

Ossuary of Unquiet Dead bug

I hate to bother you fine people at Arenanet, but seems i have come a crossed a fine issue that is bugging me.

So i was finishing the story-line some and got to “Ossuary of Unquiet Dead” and every time i get to the 2nd platform and kill the Risen Lyssa, the ghost version walks over there. does something with another ghost and then i get disconnected.

Tried it twice and it happens exactly the same way.

WvW Thackeray Amulet Issue

That amulet is ascended. You can’t put jewels in ascended and as of the Tuesday patch the only thing you can put in ascended amulets is enrichments.

So basically i am SOL on this and the only infusions i seen are those overpriced ones. Well thank you for the response.

i enjoy having someone send me some gems so that i don’t have to spend and arm and leg over 1 Character Slot

i want to create a Guardian still, maybe a Necro or a Mesmar? But alas i am unable to because of not having enough slots to create it.

So please please please send them to me and help me being starved by not creating something that will have me sitting in the game all day :P

Other than that, WvW with my Ranger has been nice, been grinding away at Weapon crafting to learn how expensive crafting can be o.O ohh and i really do enjoy the Engineer class to this game, its really a unique and different spin on things.

WvW Thackeray Amulet Issue

so i recently bought the “Thackeray Family Crest” from WvW and i was going to replace it with an older Amulet. well i bought “Exquisite Beryl Jewel” to go with it for now.

and it won’t allow me too, even though the Jewel says “Accessory, Amulet, Ring”

Something i am doing wrong?

this patch so far i noticed had many new Cash Shop gimmicks that i may or may not fall into.

During that you couldn’t have reduced the Character Slot cost from 10$ to something realistic any? how about a 1$ or 2$ a new character slot? i would easily pay 10$ for multi slots added. i spend “60$” on video games where i get many things from it, content, story lines, etc etc

Any chance to at least consider changing this? because currently that’s way to much more for me to just shell out for something that small.
