snip if the T1 score is greater that T2+T3 then teams 2 and 3 are forced to make an alliance. snip
Something along those lines, I know its probably not a perfect idea, but I think it would make the weekday more fun for blowout matches. I think I saw Devon posted earlier he was surprised this didn’t happen more naturally to begin with and I think it seems to be and unwritten rule that you don’t form alliances. Any time that I have seen people do this or try to do this people become very angry. snip
TL;DR: Some sort of alliance system would really help with population imbalances and make matches a lot more fun. snip
I have an idea along these lines, but instead of being a forced alliance, make it optional. If you want to participate, you have to “opt in.” Entire guilds and/or individual players could opt in. Have a truce area -unlocked only to the losing servers- at a certain percentage of score blowout where you could sign a treaty. You could also break the treaty via an option in your personal interface (“leave the alliance”).
Then there needs to be alliance chat so you can communicate about the 2v1 strategy.
I get that 2v1 was intended from the start, but we’ve never been given tools to make it happen.
A bit of caution please on buffing the underdog – please don’t do anything that would incentivize bad play – such as throwing a match or “not playing” on purpose. I do like the ideas of buffed NPCs for underdogs and more Siegerazor etc., but scaling points too much could lead to players being told to leave the map so points could be earned for not playing.
Now while I do agree population imbalance is an issue, I also understand that WvW is not about “fair” or “equal numbers” and is more about diplomacy, encouraging server mates to join up, rallying around a charismatic commander. But we need to figure out how to encourage the humans behind the keyboard to spread out instead of all trying to sit in the same chair at the poker table when there’s empty chairs all around. If we all end up in the same seat, we’re not going to have anyone left to play against, and how much fun is that?
My main suggestion to encourage the population to spread out is three-fold:
(a) Publish the queue times – tantalize guilds with published data so they can see for themselves that server x has queue times under 10 minutes or is even outmanned on a daily basis
(b) Allow guilds to retain their influence points/items on transfer
© Free transfers to servers who don’t have a big wvw presence – not the overall server population, but the average hours players spend in wvw away from the spawn & merchants. No need to publish these numbers – just offer free transfers to those servers that need more wvw players.
1. Commander options/UI
2. Give the underdogs a reason to still come out and play when blowout matches happen
3. Small group objectives
Thanks for that. I love that Adam & Wil are in it.

From the perspective of an active ppt focused player that respects the GvG scene:
I am appalled at the unprofessional say chat from the dev.
I was a GW1 GvG nut and I have only gotten the chance to participate in one GW2 GvG and I even lost garri once because reinforcements couldn’t get in the map to support my team due to a GvG going on. BUT BUT BUT! I totally respect the love for GvG. The adrenaline rush is entirely different than the tactical strategy of standard wvw.
But s/tPvP is no substitute when you don’t have the option to look as bad-ack in the mists as you do in wvw. I remember obs mode in GW1 watching the top guilds beat on each other and wondering when the heck they had time to get FOW armor and tormented shields.
The top players cared about looking awesome while they battled.
Is the light clicking yet?
GW2 Solution: Obtain an armor in pve? Unlock it like you used to unlock skills for pvp. Now players can gear up and look and feel just as freakin awesome in pvp as they do in pve/wvw.
Jonathan,
I am pumped about the proposed changes to warrior, mes & ele and I giggled reading about the ranger skill stealth debuff – I’ll be calling for “Rangers sweep Bay” if this goes live.
I can’t comment as much on guard, thief, eng and nec as I don’t play those much if at all, but the guardian changes are exciting news as the support that runs shoulder to shoulder with me day-to-day.
Big plus for:
• Ground targeting change – if #3 works the way I am understanding (I use the keyboard for my skills, I press and hold “F1” – I can place my target and when I release, earthshaker goes off. Right? If so, Sweet.
• Tab targeting priorities – nice QoL improvement – thank you
My one point of skepticism:
Launch stun break – I agree with the concept: stun break does seem like it should be a counter for launch attacks, but…. what’s this going to look like animation-wise? Instantly upright? If I hit a stun breaker mid-air, do I land on my feet? I mean, a lot of ppl say Charr look like cats, but I kinda resent that … come on … (hehe) This is going to be awkward to implement methinks. Maybe it should be like – the launch completes, but when you land, it’s more graceful than if you didn’t hit a stun breaker and you don’t have any down time to skills/reaction. A mid-air Olympic gymnast maneuver – I guess – still seems a bit weird.
It’s been a grand couple of hours hanging with [IRON] helping hold Bay. Now I’ve had a bite to eat and am ready to get back to the fight. Wrex’s maniacal laughter as we chased down [TW] tags was just icing on the cake.
What’s Indo’s rank? Isn’t he ranked Legend now? Who is this Colonel in blue armor? Shhhh. We’re hunting wabbits.
Yeah, I have to begrudgingly admit, while I was eager for the change at first last week, it’s nice to have JQ and BG back – a good solid wall of smash is quite satisfying.
I too used the “botting” category to report an afk’r who’d been afk for 30+ minutes, having appeared on both friendly and foe teams and then cycled back to being on my team again. The afk auto-logout apparently is not functioning in this arena. Please fix!
I am most hopeful for each legendary having a lore filled storyline and a scavenger hunt much like that of the black moa chick mini of GW1.
The storyline lore to lend an emotional tie, and difficulty of the areas and the remote treks required to obtain all the components give pride for the effort.
My calendar still says April 30. Here I am home after work, ready to finish up the last two bubble baubles I need for my backpack, and it’s closed? Please check your definition of the word “through” – “through April” means all the way through. Ending May 1. Not ending during April 30. I am disappointed.
