Well, for example, I forget which CoF path it was, but we had to keep the NPC alive while clearing a room of spawning mobs and killing assassins every 10% before getting to the boss. We had no problems dropping the assassins in time, but couldn’t survive the respawning mobs banging us around. We had 2 rangers which once dropping their longbow AoE were done for 30 something seconds on any AoE attack except for their drakes, 2 mesmers which once had blown their shatters were out of AoE, and a thief with only their spin 2 win. We were fine for the first 50% but slowly were losing to attrition of health and cooldowns not being available. This is just 1 example, the skelk burrows without AoE or healing are a similar pain in the back side.

Leo G, that’s my point though, why not a necro to do this, or a thief to do this or an ele to do this. You cannot take just any team and do any dungeon (all the trash, full run no skipping things). Maybe it’s the caliber of people I’m playing with, but I consider myself at least as good as if not slightly better than average as are most players I play with, and we just can’t complete certain fights, while doing fine on others.

I’ve played over a dozen MMO’s in my life, and in many others it seemed you needed a tank, healer and DPS to complete. Anet has decided to forgo this need (much to my happiness) and make it to where it’s the skill of the player, not the class he brings….

Or is it? As my guild gets further in to dungeon runs, we are finding that if you don’t have an Ele for AoE in this one, or a guardian for heals and damage mitigation for this fight, that it’s becoming harder and harder to complete dungeons without a certain few classes.

Is this “Lern To Play Gud” issues or has anyone else found this to be true?

My 2 coppers worth here…

The easier it is to acquire a Legendary, the less Legendary it is….yes stated before, but here is my point.

Pricing on the TP is like any economy, price vs. demand. If people continue to pay the precursor prices, then they will continue to be expensive, if people don’t they will drop. If you are the one to find a precursor that isn’t the one you want, aren’t you pleased you can sell it and make enough to get the precursor you want and begin your journey? If you don’t care about Legendary weapons, you’re now comfortable for several months of gearing, gaming etc.

I’ve seen a guild member, I’ve seen videos I see it time and time again where people go bananas for getting their precursor and almost drop in to tears from relief and excitement whether it’s a drop, a MF craft or they finally click buy on the TP. It’s the frustration, long work and grind that makes amazing.

Lastly, it’s a graphic, nothing more, nothing less. If you really want to get the “chance” to get one no matter how your earn it, it makes you no better a player, no harder to kill or perform any better in any way shape or form (for now until they are boosted with ascended). So to make it easier to acquire no matter how you do it, lessens its uber factor.

I wouldn’t change a thing even though I’m no where near getting one, I want that kick in the backside challenge. I guess that makes me a jerk I dunno.

I think it’s about a 5 second invis cooldown? My timing was a hair off but I think a well timed evade when he is about to pop solves this? I’m not sure but I think that works if timed well.

Thoughts on this build? Need feedback :)

Viable build I’d say. I loved and now hate Longsword atm, but that’s just me.

Well, while I don’t think there are “cookie cutter” builds (well there are but I hate to admit it), right now our talents are a little all over the place, so there are some builds that are better for some things and some that are better for others. This is my PvE build:

http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fMUQNBlODbkoqwOwSxi1SAsUsXgdBsHHiIj/D0exUnMB

For dungeons I keep it the same, horn for a group buff and “Protect Me” for agony or bosses that disappear and 1 shot ya (moss man).

WvW is a little different. If I’m doing it for the evening I change things around to boost me and make the pet a siege attacker and use LB/SB depending on my group. If I WvW for extended periods of time I run more toughness and health and pay a few silver to run a traps build for CC.

For PvE I’d push your crit % and crit damage % higher by 20 pts each and keep that power high. Just depends on bosses, I keep extra gear with me to flip stats and be able to absorb some hits. Since many dungeon bosses have immunities, I just roll with lynx or stalker for bleeds and dps, solo I run them or a drake/bear depending on needs.

About traits: I apply to your common sense!

Just in pet talents alone, they are spread ALL over the map. Yes this let’s you select several traits just for your pet, but you end up pretty gimpy. Might as well be called a Lion Tamer class, just sit back and watch your pet do the work while you apply small SB “DoTs” for example:

In Marksmanship:
Malicious Training (could be BM)
Beastmasters Bond (could be BM maybe?)
Signet of the Beastmaster (could be BM maybe?) this should make signets work on your pet with this talent, they should work on us instead untalented)

Skirmishing:
Agility Training (could be BM)
Pet’s Prowess (could be BM)
Carnivorous Appetite (could be BM)

Wilderness Survival
Expertise Training(could be BM)
blah blah blah etc etc…..

I like that pet talents are spread around, but you end up either really being weak with a strong pet that can’t catch anyone in PvP so it’s worthless, or you talent yourself up to be stronger, but now the pet is almost worthless and you still don’t have what it takes to be as amazing as this class could be with a weak pet and a strong YOU.

I love the class and it’s a good solid class for me, but it needs some help here

For me it’s less about 1v1 or 10v10 damage, it’s more using my CC and picking on squishies in the back of the group to try and get them to slide back as a whole. Other than that, I don’t feel I bring as much to the table as other classes. It’s CC and a little AoE with some long range poking at others, and that’s about it.

Just my 2 cents….I love the ranger. Love it love it! However…..
Usually run (20/25/15/0/5) or (20/30/0/0/20) btw

DPS for rangers without a pet is quite frankly low, in some cases against a high toughness target, embarrassingly so, and in many instances when your pet cannot be used due to agony, AoE or other effects, our damage is quite weak. I think with a simple fix of allowing us to control these guys a little more. (I understand the in and out control of pets), and manage it closely and it works well, but let’s be honest we have all had pets run in or get caught somewhere and they are 1 shotted in fractals. Pet gone? So is a LOT of your DPS.

-If I have a pet, let me tell it when to use it’s bleed, pounce, F1-F4 could be toggled to always run, never run but run on click/key bind, etc. In RL if I have a pet I can tell it to heel or bark, so if my pet could heal me or knock you over, why can’t I command it to do it on call?

-AoE mitigation or be able to assign talent points to pets for resistance (polar bear frost resist, or fire resist, or more vitality, toughness whatever. This way out pets could be used for different circumstances a raw DPS linx with even more DPS, or added toughness etc. but my bear could have more toughness as well as vitality. The list goes on…our damage is weaker than many other classes because of the pet, so make them more viable in different situations.

-(more for a fun thought off the top of my head rather than a need) Pet talents are scattered throughout the traits, why no put more pet in 1 tree and give us another, consolidate them? Rangers are the class I think lives off the land and is at one with nature. Pets bows and the weapons we have work well for it, but what about the ranger that wants a touch of stealth in lieu of a pet? not a must but it might lead to a bit more fun to make it a pet-less (or weak pet) class but they become a sniper type character, or use more of the nature magic use of spirits for healing or team support?

Our traps and 1 AoE heal are nice, but I think more group buffs or a way to support our team more would be a good trade off instead of adding damage to give us more desire to be included in high end fractals.

just some thoughts off the top of my head
