Well, I can list up what you lose and gain:

Staff:
Better mobility
Better survivability
Nice ’’1tick’’ damage from iwarlock

Greatsword:
Better at chasing people
Higher dps and also more reliable damage. For example: izerk hits more often than iwarlock does
More reliable interrupt
Boon removal
Better against cond damage specs due the massive range
Might stacking

So ye, I would go for greatsword since I don’t really need more mobility/survivability.
