I’m adamant that there IS a bug, and it’s in Doern Vasquez. I’m not going to repeat what everyone else has said, but just summarise: 4th character through it and 2 sessions of 1 hours of torture. However, in both attempts, I noticed that after dying, the NPC’s would all die, except Wassisface and the whispers guys. They would walk back to the ship instead, happily ignoring the fighting. In the second session, after having been chased around by 20 frenzied risen for an hour, he suddenly came back for no apparent reason. The summoned minions started chasing the whispers soldiers instead. I could rez the NPCs again and pop-pop-pop the mission was successful. Is there a box of donuts on that ship that they need to finish or something? It really felt as if he was the key to this thing.

Minor bug list

Hiya.

This may look like a long list and that I’m frustrated with your game, but let me just say that I’m not. I’ve just encountered one bug that I thought I’d really ought to report. And I thought that I’d throw the rest out there at the same time.

I finished my personal story on one of my alts. I mean completely, including getting my Pact victory token at the final celebration event. But alas, I had not completed the map. I went back to finish the Black Citadel. This caused me a fair bit of frustration, as when I entered the ‘Personal’ areas, I couldn’t get out again. The star that was supposed to lead me out, wasn’t there anymore. I could teleport out to the main map, which cost me silver. Eventually (there are 4 areas like that in the Black Citadel) I started logging out and logging in again to get out of the instances. Please fix this. Curiously, I did not have this problem in the Grove afterwards.

Speaking of final celebration, there’s an area where the 5 representatives of the races you can help all are. The Grawl Shaman must have taken a few blows to the head during the battle, as he kept on insisting he was a Quaggan.

On this note, during the Norn story, you get introduced to the three factions. During the Vigil guy’s spiel, the subtitles told me how great the Vigil was, but the audio was telling me about the Priory.

A similar one but harder to catch was in the Asura story. I had just done a task for the priory
I think it was right after the council had attacked the professor’s speech
and my guy was telling Zojja that the Priory would do something or other. The subtitles said the exact same text, but with the word Vigil instead.

I use the personal stories to level my guys. There’s a late mission in the personal quest which I have now done 3 times and got annoyed about every time. It's when Trahearne first time attempts to cleanse Orr and fails. It is clearly bugged in that the time it takes him to complete the ritual varies. On one occasion I had to kill all the monsters first. On another occasion I hadn't even killed the first wave when he was done. But what really gets my goat is trying to drag him into the crypt. What happens every time is that a monster jumps me. I go to kill it and as I do so, the next monster jumps out. I kill it and the next and so forth for a few waves. Then I spend half a minute on going back to get Trahearne who has just stopped for seemingly no reason. I need to do this two or three times in this mission. Gah.

Aaaand speaking of personal missions: Personal Mission + Underwater battle + corners = Misery. I have so many times now had to restart a personal quest after an underwater battle moved into a corner and the key villain vanished behind a wall and I couldn’t get to him/her/it anymore.

One of my characters is called Pus In Army Boots. I wanted her to have 2 s’s in that name, but your filter ate that. I can respect that. I would call that erring to the side of caution. But when the skill point Quaggan in Frostgorge tells me after I killed his shark that I lived up to my re——tion, I think you’re taking it too far. Not even trusting your own script writers give a bad impression.

And finally, all those dead events around the map. Now, in principle, events that are spooked on non-existing enemies smack of memory leaks, and I know how horrible that is to trace, but still, could I not plead with you to create a watchdog timer on events? If an event hasn’t made any progress for two days, I would say it’s safe to assume that it has gotten stuck, and that nobody would complain if you just failed it and reset it?

The last one is old, so I assume you fixed it ages ago, but back in October I experienced in the battle at Ford Trinity to die, spawn at the spawning point and then instantly dying again. Just thought I’d mention it.

There, that should be enough to keep you occupied for a while? Have fun!

Bombardment target marker - consumable item

Sorry to be a MeToo, but yes, I was quite taken aback at how useless it was too. You do a mission involving aerial strikes and is offered a pretty expensive item called a “bombardment marker” that does … nothing?

Having said that, I can see that the thing is too powerful for its own good, if it was what it was made out to be. Personally, I wanted to drag it into a dungeon – dungeon airstrikes ftw!!! – but I can see why ANet wouldn’t let me.

But couldn’t they at least nerf the damage on it, then? Make it just somehow useful. That thing actually cost a pretty bundle.

A few secrets (promise me not to tell anyone):

You only get the big boost on discovery once, so you only need to discover the insignias once. What often happens is that people make too many low level insignias, and then try to hock the excess ones on the trading post. So make a habit of farming mats for only one insignia and then check the TP for the cost of the rest. I found that saved me a lot of money and time, when I was leveling up my crafts.

Also: There’s a crafting booster out there – you know, one of those yellow ones you get in boxes and don’t know what to do with? If you can get them, they’re totally worth it.

No, levelling alongside crafting doesn’t really work very well. Especially when you get your crafting to level 375, you’ll either need some heavy farming or to use ~1.5g to get to 400. You’re not going to be able to do that alongside levelling.

If you PvE and roughly follow your level (and perhaps your story) you’ll find that you keep on getting gear at your level, and you shouldn’t really NEED to craft your gear. It’s a luxury. Heck, think of it as a minigame alongside the real game, where the reward is that you can make your own. But you’ll end up finding that farming the stuff you’d need for level 400 gear and then selling it, will make you enough money that you can then buy the gear on the trading post that you’d otherwise craft.

So, yeah, in short: Only farm for crafting, if you really want that master crafter title.

And you’re not the first person to have been wondering that either…

Tell me Precursors aren't a problem

I might regret throwing my two cents into this debate as it is already getting heated. I do not own a precursor, but at some point I got to 80, finished the PvE, stories etc., and so I decided to work towards a legendary. I looked at the TP and saw that the price of the precursor I wanted was 80g.

No, stop laughing, you have actually been able to buy precursors for 80g.

I thought to myself: I want that. I reckon I can farm that kind of money – even the ice crystals will cost more than that.

By the time, I had farmed the money, guess what? The price was now 500g. Those of you who already have your legendaries, can you possibly appreciate how discouraging that is? You can tell me that I should work and farm harder, but seriously, what’s the point if I’m only chasing a moving target? You will do a much better job of convincing me, if you also put down exactly how you came about getting yours (RNG or TP, and how much did it cost you!?)

I can propose a solution that I believe will solve it: Cap the TP at 200g. Don’t allow anyone to sell anything at more than 200g.

First, I believe it will be in ANet’s interest. If they want to make money, they have to tempt me with lots of small transactions – go on, just $5 more, it’s so little, right? Dump down $500? Riiight… Large prices discourage microtransactions.

And I furthermore don’t even see why people want to sell things at 500g. Why would you possibly want 500g? (assuming you’re not a gold vendor) It’s not real. You can’t take it with you, you know. It seems to be some kind of a power trip for some players to make my game experience more miserable.

You worked hard for yours, you say. I can respect that. I will not belittle that. What I’m saying is that I’m prepared to work hard for mine, but with the way it’s looking atm. I’m just going to be working hard for nothing. If I wasn’t on a fun server, I would honestly have quit this game by now.

And sorry for ranting.

The real value of gold?

You are forgetting that gold itself does not have an unlimited supply, and that you will therefore hit a limit to how huge your inflation can get. Gold doesn’t grow on trees, you know (it grows out of the ground, as we are all aware). And at some point the amount of gold that we can mine becomes insufficient to keep up with the demand and inflation will fall. But seriously, you are expecting that we will reach a point where ANet will start sending out “trillion copper” coins? ROFL. GW2 is a serious game and would never allow silly things like that to happen.

WvW Ranking Algorithm Discussion

When I look at the score, I think the following is happening (I’m TC and using it as an example) :

The algorithm says “TC is expected to comfortably defeat FA”.

The result comes in, TC wins with a comfortable margin.

Algorithm concludes that TC & FA have correct ratings.

And this would be correct, but it doesn’t make for servers shifting tiers until people shift servers.

If you want this to change, it seems obvious to me that the thing to do is to change the coefficient. If TC has won tier 3 for a full month running but still does not overtake the 6th seeded, it is because the coefficient (the number that you multiply into the difference between the achieved and the expected score) is too small. The amount of points that TC gets for winning is too small compared to the distance it needs to cover to get to tier 2. But it’s all a question of balance, obviously. If you make it larger, people will start running up and down the tiers, but personally I’d rather be beaten by someone far better than myself once in a while than never playing them.
