To cut a long story short, I played GW since shortly after its release and met my missus there shortly after that. After meeting her in the game, I met her and her daughter in real life and have been together since. Anyway, a few days ago, we had our forth child together.
So now thanks to GW, we are a family of seven. Me, the missus and our five girls. THANKYOU ONCE AGAIN GUILD WARS! (And obviously GW2)
We also had/have an amazing time playing with the GW/GW2 communities. THANKYOU GUYS! Best gaming communities ever!
Haha,, nice one, just read this and cheered my Monday up

Ok an update…
I seem to have found something that works for me. I am running Win 7 and saw a thread that it might be something to do with me running it in XP compatibility mode,, itwas.
In Win 7 right click the game launcher and select properties, then click compatibility tab, if (as mine was) the box “Run this program in compatibility mode for” and then underneath it says XP service pack 3, uncheck it.
Bad news if you an XP user
I haven’t fully tested this, but interestingly enough, the game seems to not freeze when I’m using low/non native resolutions, but once I try to play with my native resolution, the flickering starts again. Maybe it has something to do with the transition from Desktop resolution to Ingame resolution?
Only tested this with 1024/768 & 1280/1024, can any1 confirm?
Hi there,
I tried what you said but no luck as any full screen mode caused my machine to crash and go into the graphical loop (the flashing screen) I also tried changing my desktop res but that didn’t help either,
Yes I have used the new patch (18/3) and the problem still persists.
I am not playing the game because I lose too many fps having to play in windowed mode. If, as another poster in this thread has said is correct and the devs are basically blaming something other than themselves for the fps loss then I assume this means it is not going to be fixed.
Ahh, yeah same here.. sorry I just duplicated this in another thread.
After 3 patches my game still gets to a point whilst loading (always after the world selection screen) and then freezes with a flashing screen. It actually had the rather dubious distinction this morning of being the first piece of software ever to cause a hard crash on my I5 4590 R9 270X win7 pc in several months hard gaming use,, impressed.
Enough of the sarcasm.
I found somewhere how to start the game in windowed mode via a modified shortcut and it works ok, albeit with fps reduced by at least 10 per second. Interestingly I can change to full screen mode whilst in game and the fps seem to go back somewhere near to pre patch average. Everything is fine until I try to change areas,, flashing screen and freeze again.
I to am pretty new to GW2 having just come form ESO and 6 plus years on WOW prior to that.
I can only agree with what others have said on here but add one thing myself, don’t rush
.
It’s taken me about a month to reach max level and tbh it probably was too quick (no doubt some smiling at how slow here
) The differences between GW2 and WOWs gameplay are easy to spot but for myself at least they took a while to sorta sink in and only then did I get what a different mmorpg experience this is to any other I have tried. Biggest one for me and a good one to illustrate is how you level. Because whatever map you go on you are scaled to map level I ended up reaching 80 with only 30% of the map explored. Compare that to WOW by the time you reach max level you have been forced to “do” every region so although you wont have explored every nook and cranny you will have seen every region. Am max lvl and still actually only seen about a third of the regions
You will find this truly different, and hopefully very enjoyable
Hi all,,
Am just about to do my first dungeon today, and the idea of fear interests me as I know a lot of people poo poo it.
Having played WOW for 6 years from nub to GM I have done my fair share of learning hard boss tactics.
Also being an old bugger with a fair amount of life experience I think the biggest cause of fail in many a complex dungeon/instance situation is not lack of skill/stupidity/crap gear/ pc etc, but people not knowing what to do and being to afraid to ask for fear of ridicule.
I know it’s all very easy to turn around and say “well you should have read up on the tactics first, I have” as is having a good groan when someone seems particularly inept. But I honestly found when learning some of this stuff that if a spirit of be quiet could be directed at the know it all negative players and a spirit of ask when don’t know implemented instead it just created a win win situation.
When I did see this happen it just amazed me how many people were “winging” it and how many (myself included) didn’t actually know about tactics, which = wipes.
Now you could ask,, whats the point, if someone can’t be assed to learnt the tactics themselves and/or is a crap player, why should I bother ?
My answer is there are far more players out there who rely on other’s to do their learning for them for whatever reason. For sure that can be annoying for those who do take the time but that is the way things are in mmorpg’s. Creating more interest for the game in these players is key I think. Success seemed to be a very good way and it also imbued a sense of loyalty not to mention changing a fearful situation into a fun one.
Imho just taking a more patient approach can pay big dividends in the long run and ultimately you end up playing with more, and better players.
Hi all,
I have just started playing GW2, am a complete nub (3 days in) and am having a right blast, great fun, seems not all mmorpg’s are the same
I am looking for a properly mature guild (because I am an old git) and would not describe my self as hardcore in any way. I play mainly in Evenings (GMT1600-00.00) and am on the Vabbi server (EU).
