I have been gone so long I feel like anew player all over again, I rerolled my main Engi and have been chugging along on him quite well….So far all you vets and gem store heroes:

What are your favorite gem store purchases that made you slap yourself in the head and think “man…I wish I would have purchased this stuff so much earlier!”?

Bonus points: How to manage the fairly limited inventory is it as simple as bigger bags? bank tabs? more bag slots? I have thought of rolling the alts I plan to level early to use them as storage tabs but maybe there’s a better way?

Hmmm….so it looks like the leveling “meta” is just power, power, power which lends itself naturally to rifle, FT, bombs/nades etc….guess I will stick with that for the time being…..is there a point where pistol/shield becomes a viable build outside of pvp?

As I understand it, pistol is more of a condition based weapon….does that also apply to the FT because of the burning or do you usually focus on power for that as well?

I meant the utility skill mine, I like to drop it between myself and my target as it comes in…between the mine, net shot and OC shot stuff seems to almost never touch me! That being said I am not totally against bombs or nades….thought they were kind of redundant since FT offered such good AoE but I am pretty green in this game..

Let me save you a LOT of frustration…..pick an open T2 server and get your GF to transfer there….I waited days upon days for BG, TC and/or JQ to open up and it just never happens….even at “who the hell is up at this hour” o’clock…..Yak’s Bend and Fort Aspenwood both have great fights and solid action around the clock with minimal queues. You could have a stable of alts to 80 by the time you get an opening on BG.

Are there any viable builds out there for leveling that could combine all my favorite engineer skills? I absolutely love pistol/shield…I love the Flamethrower….I love dropping mines and of course who doesn’t love Elixir B? All of these skills seem to favor different stats and play-styles but I would love to find a way to combine all of these into a build and gear set that, while not optimal, wouldn’t be horrendous to level……am I dreaming?

That’s just the nature of the F2P or Freemium lock box bamboozle. The ugly truth is that they made far more money from you gambling your hard-earned money away than if they would just charge you for the skin. The sad thing is…people like myself would gladly purchase a sweet looking skin but to hell with buying RNG lock box keys.

After quite a bit of reading it seems the tier that’s going to fit my play style and patience is 2. My home server is Yak’s but I have been gone quite a while…I’m not the “if you ain’t winning, I’m leaving” type by any means….I am actually more curious about the off-hours action and the q times.

I generally play 4am – 6am EST, 9pm – 11pm EST and some marathon sessions on Saturday nights EST. Will I be able to find some good action in the early AM weekdays? Will I spend most of my weeknights waiting in Q for hours? and lastly…What exactly are you guys bending on the Yak and does he try to bite you?

Always a balancing act of trying to dodge queue times yet have a high enough population to facilitate good off-hours WvW action….not really sure if fighting through the “full” status is worth the wait or if I would be better off going with a tier 2 server.

I think most MMO’s operate under the premise that it is unlikely that everyone will decide to log on at once. For the times when a few too many do decide to login they usually have some sort of queue system or in GW2’s case an “overflow” server.

Doesn’t seem like a server population based on accounts calling it “home” would do a whole lot to account for inactive accounts. Especially in a game like this where there’s no subscription to maintain.

Been trying for a couple days now to get into a server that bounces from full to the very occasional high. I am curious if there’s ever been a definitive answer on:

A.) Does the server status (full, high, etc.) update dynamically as you watch the list?
B.) Each time you close the window with the [X] in the corner? or
C.) Do you have to log completely out of the client and back in for it to refresh?

I guess on a related note…it seems as if the server’s status changes over the course of the day so is it safe to assume the status is determined by people logged on currently or is it figured on accounts that call that server home?

Looking to get into some drop in drop out WvW action a couple nights a week on my casual play schedule….I work a swing shift so my play hours bounce all over the place. I figure I need a really high pop to make sure there is still action, even at off-hours for the NA. I would also prefer as short queues as possible….when you play a couple hours at a time who wants to spend half of it in a queue, amirite?

So any world suggestions?
