It’s a game, entertainment should be the ultimate goal. There is a reason why mechanics that make things “anti-fun” for 1 party are the first to be purged by developers. As a player I usually make sure my fellow players are enjoying themselves as well.

Well, the first ultimate goal in playing is to have fun yourself, right? Otherwise you wouldn’t play. And if you don’t have fun to roam or do 1vs1, why should you force yourself just to make the other person happy that they’re able to stomp you in 5 seconds? I don’t think this is fun for the opponent, and it sure isn’t for me.
The mechanics of WvW are not really about those fights, too, they are zerg vs. zerg and siege vs. zerg.

1vs1 or GvG are part of it, sure, but they are a small part compared to taking, claiming, building and defending camps, towers and keeps. There is the bonus system for your server if the WvW week went well (although I am not sure how many really fight for these, I sure do not – it’s a nice bonus, nothing more) and there are the leagues which, I guess, everybody would like to finish 1st place. I have been wondering one or two times at the beginning of the week why we were building siege instead of trying to fight you in front of the keep we’re defending but I’m no commander, I’d most likely be a bad one tactics-wise. And… it’s simply no fun to wipe more times than not. If you play together as a guild you may think about it as competition and a good way to increase your skills, which is correct. But if you have small guilds and a high amount of players outside of WvW guilds you can’t practise that much since you’re usually commanding a different bunch of people than you did last time.

It’s either guilds or community, and I for one favour community. WvW is about servers, not guilds. So anyone from said server should get a chance to participate and have fun. Drakkar Lake has tutoring events for WvW newbies and everybody on the map is welcome to TS and the Drakkar Lake public zergs.

Would you want to exclude people of your own server because they aren’t in WvW guilds and/or not the best players who know all the theorycrafting of their class and/or how to fight best in PvP to grant more fun to your opponents? What are you doing to the fun of your own people, if so?

Omg RoS think you are so good, your guilds are “so good”.

But I think it is not so. Only NP can fight on open field, KISS and the residue was freeloot for us.

Stop talking. You are being extremely rude.

Really ?

Yes, really. Keep the war ingame and the kindergarten out of the forums.

It’s no longer about being part of a guild. WvW on Drakkar is about being part of the server. Every single soul on the map works as one singular being.

This is exactly why I love playing for Drakkar Lake, too.
I am sorry the way we play is no fun for you, Surmias, but on the other hand, I am one of those boring players who rather like to build and support than joining 1vs1 fights. It’s simply no fun for me to bash other people (even if it’s virtual bashing) and, that said, I have little to no experience how to fight against other players. Come, bash me if you want. I’ll let anyone kill me to get back to what I actually like to do, and you can’t say that scouting, Dolyak speeding, building keeps and keep defense are not part of WvW, too. I am roaming too, but not exactly to look for fights, more to support my server by trying for bloodlust or such. Well, yes… may sound boring for most, but it’s fun for me.

So… if I’d have to put up with lots of small and bigger guilds all working for themselves instead of the server community, I’d certainly enjoy the game much less than I do now.
To each their own, I guess. You can’t have it all, stop looking for all the things you don’t like. Think positive and focus on things you do like, even if you think they’re tiny bits of the whole kitten. Instead of complaining about the massive blobs that blast you while you seem to succeed against smaller groups and the unfairness of it all, think about what Naphack wrote. It may be a different game than you know, or favour, but that doesn’t make it wrong or bad. It simply needs adapting to and making the best out of it. You’ve been doing a great job during the first half of the week but I do think we deserve the outcome (same as you would because of the spirit you showed ingame) since we dedicated ourselves to win the week and didn’t lose faith we could do this.

Good job, to all three servers. It’s an awesome week and I’ve enjoyed taking what little part I can take in it right now due to RL issues.

thumbs up

Edit: I’d like to add, that this is only speaking for me, not for all Drakkarians. We do have people who love to fight.

Drakkar v Gunnars v Underworld

Drakkar Lake here. I might not have the time to show up at the End-of-Week-chat, although I’d love to meet you guys.

Never the less, I’d like to thank both Underworld and Gunnar’s Hold for another good week of WvW.

Congratulations to Gunnars Hold for all the good fights. Yesterday evening you did a lot of damage at our borderlands, as I saw. I didn’t play long but while I did play, I could hardly do anything against your masses and often kissed the ground, virtually. Thanks for a bunch of ingame money spent on repairing armor.

To Underworld, I’d like to address:
It’s been an interesting round last week, and so I’m a bit sorry I did not see as much of Red this week. Although I can see the Underworld core kept their good spirit. Next week, from my perspective, will be hard in the next bracket, so we might meet again in two weeks. I’ll watch out for you!

Hopefully we also helped our foe in their training – highlighting in particular that if you just zerg-rush your little herd of munchkins around the map and never do anything except overwhelm towers and camps with sheer numbers, then we can, and will, recapture them pretty quickly afterwards. Thanks for stopping by!

blows kisses

sends them right back from said opponent
I am pretty sure you did. I wasn’t around during the newbie raid, which is a shame because I’m rather new at WvW myself. But I do in fact think it’s a good idea to explain things right where they are going to happen. I’m pretty sure that the guys who organised it all were pretty aware you would take it back after we stopped attacking you. The point, however, was to share some basic knowledge about the sports with people who probably know very little to nothing at all about it. The point was not to take all your keeps and defend these, yesterday. So yes, Thwap, you helped. As much as anyone would have helped. And it’s not like we don’t stand our ground at our own homelands, unless night time hits and/or you’re the opponent who is outnumbering us.

That said: I can hardly agree with the statement that Gunnars Hold is dead, WvW-wise. We’ve got far too much to do with you guys, which proves you’re alive and kicking hard. Keep up the good fights, and your head held high. If it wasn’t for the event weekend where we seemed to be more active in WvWvW than you or Underworld, things would be much closer now, and even harder to maintain.

Drakkar Lake here. I’d like to congratulate both UW and AG for the good fighs. Thank you both for giving us lots of opportunities to progress and learn.

One of my personal highlights was the garrison fight that was mentioned above. Being a WvWvW-newbie, I nervously practiced my first mesmer portals at the sight of you AG guys (especially Unity out there was giving me the creeps ) and realized I could do it and how effectively it worked. Thanks for the good fights, the wins and losses and tons of experiences made this week. I look forward to continue the experience against Underworld and Gunnar’s Hold in the upcoming battles.
