Get rid of ferocity and precision

Changing crit damage to ferocity was a dumb change. It makes understanding what you get from the stat confusing. What does 10 ferocity give me? Some amount of crit damage that’s about all I can tell you. What’s the difference between 10 and 20 ferocity, or 10 and 11 ferocity? Just say 1% crit damage like a normal person. I can look at that and say “Whenever I crit this will increase the crit damage done by 1%”. And please can we do this with precision too? I don’t really know what 100 precision gives me. I can look at 10% crit chance and once again easily say “This increases my chances of getting a critical hit by 10%”.

Using terms to describe stats does have it’s place but the way they’re being used is just silly and unnecessary. For instance the term intelligence. Ok that doesn’t tell me much. I know it might give spell power, mana, and mana regen but that’s about it. The thing is a single point into a stat like intelligence affects multiple things. That is when it becomes necessary. Sure we can list out all the tiny little things it gives us, but to be honest sometimes it is much simpler to group together stats. It gives you better control of stats that work together so that they come in properly balanced ratios.

Let’s look at armor sets. This style of using terms to describe sets is already being used in the game. Take “Berserker” for instance. While it is not a stat in itself we can use the term to describe a combination of power, precision, and ferocity. It seems like anet has an idea of how to correctly label their character stats but this recent change to ferocity is just so strange.

AND ALSO town clothes are now tonics…really anet? Why in the eternal alchemy did you do this? You know what I did when I wanted town clothes? I made a hotkey for it.

Step 1: Press Z. DONE! And they could be colored, and I could add or remove pieces, and it automatically removed my weapon for me, and it didn’t take up an inventory slot, and it lasted as long as I wanted it to.

Now they last 15 minutes for no reason at all, they can’t be colored, take up an inventory slot, you get where I’m going with this. It’s dumb, it’s unnecessary, fix it. While you’re at it get rid of the timer for all endless tonics. If they don’t get consumed why are they timed?

Well sadly, you’ve either badly built your thief or the thief isn’t the class for you. The thief isn’t there to take the hits. It’s a glass cannon with mass stealth abilities. The whole point is to either kite with condition damage and invest in vit, or go pure crit/power with stealthing abilities.

I have 0 issues with the Thief. Heavy Condition/Vit stacking for PvE, where as pure damage in PvP. If I die, it’s because of a fault on my end; 90% of the times it’s me running into battle as if I’m a warrior/guardian. If you’re complaining about a lack of Power, look for “Jinzu’s backstab build”, or “Minions Invincible Thief”. Both, are prime examples of strongly built Thiefs.

And I’ll say it again. Thief ISN’T meant for TANK. If you want to tank hits and zerg, you need a Warrior or Guardian. The usual playstyle for a Thief is a Hit and Run. Get in, and get out as fast as possible. Not sit there like a duck and strike hits.

I never said the thief should tank hits. I know thieves are never supposed to get hit but I’m saying there’s no way to avoid getting hit. Nothing I do works since I move so slow in combat. I dodge twice and I’m done for the fight. Not to mention the thief has very little escape power. Everyone says that’s what thief is best at but I’ve yet to find a way to get out of a fight. Other classes have so much chasing power and stealth isn’t an option since everyone can see you. I’m gonna try those builds see if I can get any results.

I play as a thief and finally reached level 80 and it was a complete pain in thekitten The thief is by far the most underpowered class. He dies in one hit no matter what build or equipment you have. Even if you do spec into defense you lose any kind of damage you had before which is pathetic to begin with. What I don’t understand is why every other thief in thekittengame is so strong.

I’m making this post because I’m sick of getting the kitten kicked out of me by every other mob in the game. At this point I’m reallykitten off because I spent the entire leveling process trying out every build imaginable and I’ve yet to find out a viable way to play a thief. I can barely take on 1 mob or person and if there are 2 there’s no way to escape fights.

Double pistols seem to be the only weapons capable of dealing decent damage. Melee weapons are bad because that means having to tank hits and I can tank 1 hit before dying. I’ve tried glass canon at first and I could deal some decent damage but no where near as much as other classes. I’ve tried specing into defense with shadow arts but stealth skills are limited and stealth doesn’t stop them from seeing you. I thought it made you invisible but people can still see and target me. I’ve tried acrobatics thinking I should just dodge skills. Any kind of cc just locks me down and there are maybe 2 dodging skills that seemed useful.

At this point I honestly can’t think of any skill, weapon combo, or trait setup I haven’t tried and all of them seemed to fail in every area. What am I doing wrong? Why is every other thief X100 stronger than me? Is there any way to build a thief that doesn’t suck and how do you play it? At this point I literally can’t afford to keep dying. I’m running out of money for repairs but I can’t live long enough to make any.

I have mixed feelings about the shortbow. I love the aoe so I can tag multiple enemies but in terms of actual power it feels like it sub-par. It could kite better if the backstep wasn’t broken. Whenever I use it I just rubberband back to where I was or I just jump in the air and at least get an evade. Poison is long lasting but does very little damage and rarely ticks so unless it’s a sustained fight it wont help. The bomb is pretty good it does decent damage but I can’t tell if it is more because the cast time is so long I could get in maybe 3 auto attacks for more or less damage. The shadowstep skill is useless. It’s too short range for travel not to mention the mechanics prevent most travel. You can’t use it to go up or cross gaps. I would never waste so much initiative to blind someone for one hit because almost all attacks are several hits.

I’ve been liking double pistols for straight up dps. Auto attacks bleed which is nice but if you’re going to maintain stacks you can only auto attack because the duration is so short. The 2nd skill is good for team fights if you need to stack vulnerability but again the cast time is really long so getting it to stack takes time. Unload is a great skill and deals a ton of damage. No real complaints here but I wish I didn’t have to give up my bleed stacks for it. I guess it’s a fair trade off. It’s nice to have an interrupt with a good cast time. 5th skill is about as useful as the shortbow’s but at least this time it’s a field so you can stack blinds. Still don’t use it because of the cost. I’d rather deal damage.

Sword I feel is an odd weapon for thief. With a pistol I feel like I’m supposed to constantly interrupt attacks to stay alive but thieves aren’t good at sustaining attacks so unless I kill you quick I’ll be out of attacks but I have to use some of those attacks just to stop from getting hit and kill time increases. Maybe there’s a better way to do it but I don’t see it. With a dagger I feel a little stronger because of the roll and dagger off-hand skills.

Dagger-Dagger seems to be designed for thieves. The problem I have with melee weapons for this class is you are supposed to avoid getting hit and getting close to the enemy is the worst way to do that. If you mix in some stealth utility and if your position is good D-D deals some good damage. However, all the stealth skills in the world can’t help you if you can’t use them. Very easy to get stun locked.

Pistol dagger is probably my favorite (for PvE) because kiting is so easy. shadowstep away, steal, shadow step away again. It’s fun and with dagger off hand mobs can’t keep up when crippled and can’t see you. The utility means giving up damage skills so it’s not as strong at DPS as other choices.

I haven’t figured out any good traits for thief yet. It of course depends what style of play you are using but I feel like all the skills I want are either too spread out or don’t do what I need them to.
