Bump! We’ve gotten many wonderful applicants and have welcomed some new members. But we’re still recruiting! We’re looking to do guild-organized meta events like the Chak Gerent, and that means we need a small army!

Hey there, good lookin’! We are The Cry of Winter. It’s [ICE] to meet you! See what I did there? Pretty cool pun, right? No? Man, that’s cold...

Anyways, now that we’ve broken the ICE, let me tell you why you belong in the coolest guild in all of Tyria!

The TL;DR Version
Name: The Cry of Winter [ICE]
Server: Doesn’t matter, megaserver, duh.
Rep Requirement: None. That’s silly.
Focus: PvE, exceptional skill with casual schedule.
Activities: Events, Fractals, RAIDS, HoT Meta Events, World Bosses, and a bit of sPvP.
What We Offer: New player mentorship, teaching fractals/raids, guild buffs, and more community events than you can shake a stick at!
Active Times: 7pm to 3am EST (All activities begin at 9pm EST)
Roster Size: Small to Medium (60 currently, building to 100)
Voice Chat: TeamSpeak 3, only required for certain content.
Contact: Malachi Draven.2865 or Chronosystem.2168
Website: http://www.cryofwinter.com/

The Lengthy Version
Once upon a time, a guild was founded. This guild had a vision – a vision of an epic, thoroughly superb, tight-knit community that did so many fun things together that other guilds were envious of the huge smiles on the faces of this guild’s members.

[ICE] is not your average guild. First off, we’re small. We like it that way. Our ideal size is no more than 100 members. We don’t want to be a huge zerg guild with hundreds and hundreds of members, where you just get lost in the crowd when you join and you can’t remember anybody’s name.

Second, we go far beyond merely being “active”. We built this guild to be “interactive”. As an icicle, you don’t just log on and see a roster full of people that are doing their own thing, that you never speak to or interact with. Instead, you log on and you see a community, friends, hell even a second family. You see the friendliest bunch of people that GW2 has to offer.

And best of all, you actually do things with us! What kind of things? Here’s a list, because everybody loves easy-to-digest, bulleted lists:

  • Weekly missions
  • Fractals
  • RAIDS
  • Events like asura ball, hide ’n seek, jumping puzzle races, arena brawls, and more. All with in-game and out-of-game prizes!
  • An active (and stylish) website, with forum titles, badges, and even an XP/leveling system!
  • An in-depth and entertaining progression system for guild ranks
  • Drinking games!
  • Oh, so much more!

Casual PvE
We are a PvE focused guild. We have charged straight into raids and are loving every minute of it. However, we are not hardcore about it. There won’t be any 40-hour raid weeks. Though we do strive to be exceptional players, and all raiders are expected know the fights, know their classes and builds, etc. Our goal is to have the hardcore quality, without having the hardcore raiding schedule or crazy shouting raid leader.

As for PvP, a lot of our members, myself included, do participate in PvP all the time. We do both sPvP and WvW, and if enough members wish it, then we’ll have organized teams for PvP. But for now, we decided just to focus on PvE as a guild.

No Rep Requirement
Here at [ICE], we think rep requirements are stupid. We want you to want to rep us, not just force you to. After all, this is a game, and we play it to have fun. So if you’re having fun with a different set of friends, then good for you!

How To Join
Aww yeah! If you’ve read this far (good job!) then you’re clearly interested in joining The Cry of Winter and becoming an icicle. Well, joining is easy! Simply head on over to our website and take a moment to fill out our handy-dandy application.

If you have any questions, feel free to contact either Malachi Draven.2865 or Chronosystem.2168. Cheers!

PS – We were recently chosen to be on Enjin’s Featured Friday showcase! You can read the article here.

Elite Specializations & Hero Point Feedback [Merged]

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Malachi Draven.2865

Oh this SUCKS! I don’t want to be a Necromancer. I’m only interested in playing as a Reaper. The current Necromancer base class feels very underwhelming and clunky and weak to me. It’s not enjoyable at all.

Now I gotta grind out a ton of hero points in a game that promises no grind just so I can play the way I want in a game that promises we can always play how we want? No thanks. This really has just completely reversed all the hype I had for HoT and makes me regret picking up this game again.

Also, wait a second, so let me get this straight. We go into Maguuma Jungle, and unlock the first half, at most, of our new spec. And then if we want to actually use that spec immediately, we have to use a trait line that isn’t finished? So we’re literally handicapping ourselves while we skip past all the other HoT content and head straight to all the hero challenges? That sounds like such a brilliant idea…

Only 2 mastery points during BWE #3?

Malachi Draven.2865

Same problem here. I’m guessing we’re not supposed to get more than 2 points this weekend.

As for the canopy, you get to that by interacting with the ladder hanging from the helicopters at the rally points at night.

2 Months to unlock the Arena is too long!

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Malachi Draven.2865

I can understand it taking a long time to fully upgrade the guild halls. I’m kinda looking forward to the 6 to 9 months my guild will have building up our guild hall.

What I’m not okay with is it taking TWO MONTHS simply to unlock our Arena. That is unacceptable. It’s by far the coolest and most interactive part of the guild halls. It’s also the feature that my guild, along with many others I’m sure (especially GvG guilds!), is looking forward to the most out of all the HoT content.

At the very least, allow us to unlock a boring, ugly, yet functional base version of the Arena very quickly. I mean, this is a game after all – let us play! Don’t force us to spend 2 more months just to unlock a feature. Not. Cool.

Malachi Draven.2865

Agreed. You can’t time-gate the coolest feature of guild halls. My guild has been looking forward to that more than anything else in HoT. It’s just horrible to make us wait two more months just to unlock it.

We’re up to about 30 members, but we’re still recruiting about a dozen more awesome folks!

We just recently had an organized Dungeon Night, helped some members get their Dungeon Master achievements.

This Friday, we’re having a Hide and Seek contest in Divinity’s Reach, with gold prizes!

Also, we were chosen to be on Enjin’s “Featured Friday” Showcase!

Glider speed

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Malachi Draven.2865

Malachi Draven.2865

I think the base glider speed should be the same speed as running with a 25% increase, since just about every class has access to a trait or signet that gives 25% movement speed.

The “lean forward” thing should be faster. It should also activate automatically so you don’t have to let go of “W” and hit it again. That just feels clumsy.

I really, really hate activating my glider and feeling that I just entered combat, or got hit with a slow or something. It’s mildly infuriating, and the more you do it, it becomes rage inducing.

No place for Reapers in raids/dungeons?

in Necromancer

Posted by: Malachi Draven.2865

Malachi Draven.2865

You guys are wasting your breath. You’re forgetting the very important statement made by Anet that they want raids to work with ANY group composition. They don’t want any required classes, which also means that every class is viable.

Basically, you guys are expecting these raids to be waaaay tougher than they actually will be. Reaper or not, selfish dps or not, you can play whatever class you have the most fun with and you’ll be fine. I guarantee you there will never be a situation where a raid wipes and somebody thinks “I bet we died because we brought the Reaper…”.

Please allow Elite Spec at level 21

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Malachi Draven.2865

Malachi Draven.2865

Dear Anet,

This has been my first beta weekend for HoT and so far I have tried the Daredevil and Dragonhunter elite specs and I thoroughly enjoyed playing them.

In fact I loved playing the Daredevil so much that I want to have the experience of leveling as one! I might even want to level a Reaper (because I sort of hate Necro core specs and weapons, but would probably level one as Reaper if I could because it seems aligned with my play style).

However, it is my understanding that you plan that Elite Specs will not be unlocked till level 80, per a prior blog post. This is rather sad face.

So, I humbly and wholeheartedly implore that you PLEASE reconsider this decision and allow Elite Spec lines to be available at level 21 when we first unlock the trait lines. That would be awesome. It would also allow for REALLY learning the class — the subtleties and ins-and-outs that are required for mastering these elite specs (in some cases). And it would be a complete blast, plus create tons of new depth to the game experience for everyone!

Anyways, that’s my petition. I hope it happens. I won’t scream if it doesn’t.

Thanks for listening!

No! I just spent like 70g leveling my Necro to 80 so I can be a Reaper, now it’s your turn! Lol :P

For real though, just level it ahead of time with crafting, tomes, and EOTM and then go back and do all the map completion stuff when HoT launches. This way you’ll get the benefits of the new map rewards system HoT is bringing, as well as getting away from the huge pack of people in the new HoT zones.

How to Dance: Volume II

Guild Wars 1 dances. In Guild Wars 1, for those that didn’t know, the dances were profession & gender based. I’d like to see them add those dances to Guild Wars 2. There were some really great ones in there. Like the Warrior and Monk dances, or who can forget the amazingly awesome male Elementalist dance?

Preview (what I could find on short notice, sorry for the annoying music):
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XePbxNS78AY

I’d pay like 5,000 gems to get those GW1 dances. Especially the Male Necromancer one.
