Depends on how fast early leveling really is now. Somebody in another thread said they got to level 6 in about 10 minutes by hitting renown hearts under the new system. If it takes more than an hour or so to hit 12 then yeah, it seems like Engineers are being disproportionately held back by the changes.
All this unrest is making me embarrassed by how often I forget to use my elites and/or all my utility skills when leveling alts. :P
Play to win the game not to get the achievements and both will happen fairly quickly.
Not really, seeing as you get zero credit.
YMMV, but I found that when a person or two in the group went out of their way to 1) play the objective and 2) help other players on the team, eventually the bulk of the other players followed suit. Case in point: the guy who let me die a couple of times to get the present I was carrying. After a round or two of helping if they were in a fight they couldn’t handle alone or reviving them when they were downed and they were reviving us right back.
Win X games as a Y would have been nice to spice up the battlefield with non-Scout classes.
Possibly this? I had no problem just playing the game and getting the achievements – well, I’m one carrier kill away from having both but I just started trying tonight – but I’m always picking “Scout”. Very much looking forward to getting that last kill and giving the other two roles a try.
Definitely would download/buy that track – I watched the trailer a couple times just for the music. Not that the rest of it wasn’t fantastic too.
People complaining about the chests and drop rates etc. i think are missing the point. It is simply a CHANCE to get a limited availability event item. Anet has always been clear about that.
There’s a chance it’ll snow in Chicago on Christmas and there’s a chance I’ll be struck by lightning while holding a winning lottery ticket. Not exactly even odds between the two, though. Given the backlash last time around, I think it’s fair to say a lot of people were surprised that the “chance” turned out to be as low as it was for all holiday items.
Finally got all my alts through!
Asura Ele – speed boost
Human Mesmer – no boost
Human Thief – no boost
Sylvari Necro – no boost
Sylvari Ranger – no boost
Norn Guardian – no boost
Charr Warrior – no boost
Charr Engineer – no boost
Plain and simple, just can’t see where I’m jumping/landing in the midst of the mob.
Once you get a good feel for the layout, this stops being as much of an issue. You might want to slow down at points, with the understanding you’ll screw up that particular run, just so the playing field is emptier and you can try focusing on single jumps.
After a truly epic number of failures, I stopped focusing on trying to beat the puzzle and instead tried to work out how to do <x> jump smoothly.
Overall, though, I was initially worried about how they’d make him sounds since he’s always been voiceless in GW1, however I was pleasantly surprised. I agree with the above poster, he’s voice acted very well.
His voice meshed so well with my mental image of the Mad King that I was just now looking on YouTube for GW1 footage to see if it was the same voice actor. Totally forgot he never had a VA before!
Tenicord, that only happens if the meta event ends. Maybe I’m wrong here but on Borlis Pass, for example, I’m it seems like I’m watching the first stage of the event in Gendarran Fields by Traveler’s Vale complete time after time but it never moves on to the next stage at Lawlen Ponds.

Depends on the server. The doorways seem to have been gone for awhile now on Borlis Pass. Haven’t seen them since yesterday.
Asura Elementalist, One with Air trait, level 30.
I’ve tried it again with other (non-Asura, non-boosted) characters. On the one hand, the camera isn’t trying to kill me and I can actually see my characters. On the other, I’ve gotten so used to the extra time buffer the boost gave me that I find myself going way too slow.
ETA: Human Mesmer, no speed boosts.

I don’t like the “souvenir” argument. You have the horns and the book. Why isn’t that enough? Why do you also need the uber-rare weapon skins? To the people referencing the GW1 event hats, it’s not like those were difficult to get, you only had to be logged in at the correct time. The book requires you to actually do something and participate in the event, and rewards you with a cool “backpack” skin for any character to use. And of course the horns fill the role of GW1’s hats.
But apparently that’s not good enough.
The event so far has been awesome. The handling of the cash shop skins has been objectionable. They’re not mutually exclusive positions to hold.
At this point I hope the backlash 1) doesn’t get ArenaNet down too much but 2) does makes them re-examine how they implement and market holiday items in the cash shop for future events, particularly if they involve RNGs.
Why are people spending real money on these items??? The skins are already on sale for gold on the market. Just farm gold kitten
Because nothing in how ArenaNet originally marketed the Black Lion chest update for Halloween indicated that these were extremely rare skins that would be absurdly difficult to obtain from a chest.
GW1 had bots. For example, there was a time when you’d run into a conga line of bot monks at Elona Reach.
Sorry for the rant, but if I’m already seeing this kind of antisocial behavior happening in the first area of the game, it’s a bit discouraging. It’s a Saturday night! Why don’t people want to see content they might’ve missed either?
The only thing that I think is a bit anti-social is not saying anything in response to you. Not unforgivably anti-social but a response would have been nice. Beyond that, you’re just guessing. You don’t know they haven’t seen the content before. Even if they hadn’t, maybe there’s just something else they wanted to do more. That’s fair.
If you feel you need to know the contents of each act before deciding whether or not to play – which seems reasonable up to a point – just check the official site, forums, and/or fansites when an act goes live. By the end of the day, they’ll be crammed with descriptions, screenshots, and videos.
That’s just mean. Some people have other things to do then ensure they’re able to long in just to see what’s available. Would be nice to know what’s coming when and for how long so we can play accordingly.
We do know the act structure of the event – the first act starts on the 22nd, the second on the 26th, the third on the 28th, and the fourth on the 31st.
Since I never played GW1 I am also very curious. I can’t wait actually. Did they have one day events or longer in GW1?
Bit of both. The Mad King showing up, for example, only happened on Halloween. Decorations would go up in the major cities and special Halloween drops would be around for around longer – IIRC, around a week. There were also seasonal quests that would appear shortly after the decorations/drops started appearing.
