This seems to mostly happen only when I port to Hoelbrak (about which I noticed a topic about) and as Zen Archer said, the HoT maps. I haven’t really noticed the same issue in other places so far (yet).
Yep, me. I’ve been having the same issue since the last patch :/
Will add that I use a Razer Tartarus keypad – for comfort rather than the Asus keyboard action – tried a few other laptops and stumpy fat fingers cause more problems than the key action :-)
Hahah, yeah I can see how that can be a problem with bigger fingers. It’s fine in my case though, unless the laptop begins to overheat and then gaming becomes painful. A separate keyboard is a good solution in Summer, when it’s just impossible keeping your fingers on a laptop keyboard lol. Six plus hours of gaming is something that definitely happens to me as well, too.
Thanks for your input – guess the Asus isn’t such a bad choice afterall. Let’s just hope Win10 won’t be giving me problems with GW2.
I’m grateful for all the answers I got here
Hopefully I’ll be able to get back into GW2 soon again.
i will also buy new laptop for gaming…. will be a asus rog g752 …. my poor g73s cant handle with 460mgtx and 2ghz quad
Ah, yeah… as I mentioned an Asus from the ROG series would be something quite perfect for me – but sadly too far fetched. Maybe in the next life I’ll be able to have one of those haha. Enjoy it! :>
Thanks so much for every response here… I can’t lie that I am still left a bit with questions but sadly I am not the expert I wish I was.
A thing I forgot to mention, which might not be really important, is that a friend of mine has a pretty similar Asus model like the one I mentioned, maybe just a bit older, and as far as GW2 goes it works really well… so I’m using that laptop as a ‘reference’, but I’m just a bit worried in general that whatever I will choose it will be a complete mess lol.
I had an Acer laptop that I recieved as a gift, and sadly it was a really, really faulty machine so this could be the first and last time I ever get any Acer product. Not to mention it made my fingers feel like sausages roasting for a barbeque.
I did also have experiences with an Asus laptop that I had before the Acer one and it worked real good for a while before it started to get overheating problems and shutting down everytime I played anything – granted it was quite an old laptop and it was given to me second hand.
So from what I gathered (that’s a whole bunch of useful infos so, thank you all again), that Asus seems like an alright choice yeah? I know it’s definitely not the best thing, but it’s all I can afford.
I would think that Asus you listed would work quite nicely, as well as also being very good for other, more gpu intensive newer games. Also that unit would be very capable for quite a few years, imo.
It would certainly be very capable of running GW2 on max, or close to max settings most of the time.
Thanks for the response
makes me feel a bit more sure about it. I am also aware of players that have (or had) issues with GW2 on the Windows 10 OS, but mostly if they directly upgraded from Win8 instead of a clean install.
Hello all!
I am not sure if this is posted in the right forum category – if it’s the wrong one, apologies and it hopefully can be moved. Sorry if it’s gonna be confusing, or too long.
I’m gonna say, first off, that I am very well aware that desktop computers will always be better than laptops for gaming (unless I am willing to spend money I don’t have). However, there might be a chance of me getting a new pc soon and for my situation laptops are a better choice. While I can’t specifically ask for advice which laptop to choose because I am not from the States, so a laptop that costs 800$ there would cost me over 1000€ here… and they never ship outside the US which sucks.
My idea would be having a laptop that can run GW2 on medium-high settings and not get under 30fps too often, obviously not counting zergs and such. I never have all the settings on high or ultra in games so I’m not worried about this. Besides GW2, I like to try out other games such as TERA and Blade&Soul, as well as single RPGs (for example Dragon Age Inquisition), and I was curious about Overwatch as well. I tend to game for a fair amount of time on some days and this is when I worry about overheating and the laptop burning my fingers to a crips as it has happend on the previous one.
I had my eye on the Asus ROG series but there is no way I could get any of that because it’s way too expensive where I live (I am only capable to spend around 800€ or 900$… just maybe a little bit more than that). So I had to search for alternatives.
One laptop that I found that could possibly run all those games is the Asus X751LX-T4149T, but I wouldn’t mind more opinions.
I’d say I’m not exactly dumb when it comes to computers but it’s also my very first time buying a laptop on my own, so I am kind of worried of making wrong choices, so be patient with me lol.
Thanks in advance guys.
Well I guess sicne there hasn’t been anything new on this in days, it’s either every group I join is in EU or .. the next best solution is a ticket. Either way the way it is, LFG is something I cannot use ._.’’ Thanks for all the input however, I appreciate it.
What I am saying is that there is no JOIN IN in that pop up menu when you right click on a player when I join a party
You wont get that option if you are NOT in their map to begin with. It’s a location based context option. If you’re in LA, and they’re in Sparkfly Fen, you arent going to see the option to “Join in Sparkfly” until you actually waypoint INTO sparkfly.
I know that too. I know about the ‘join in’ tab not being in the lfg itself which Daddicus mentioned, I know that I need to be in the same map – it’s not like I never used LFG I know how it works, but the problem stays.
You need to join the group using the LFG tool, and then in the party window on the left side of the screen right click the party leader and click “join in____”.
Uhh.. yeah. That’s the way I do it.. I am not aware if there is any other to join groups lol. The thing is, I can’t click ‘’join in…’’ because there is no ‘’join in…’’ tab to click and I am not sure what is causing it.
Your description doesn’t match what you have to do. It’s not a tab in LFG.
Right-click on the silhouette of the party leader. From the pop-up menu, choose Join in …. The party interface is at the far left of your screen, NOT in LFG. The leader will be the top one in your list, unless you are the leader.
I know it’s not a tab in LFG. I know that. But again, I might’ve written all of that wrong so I got misunderstood, but I am not looking for tabs in LFG itself. What I am saying is that there is no JOIN IN in that pop up menu when you right click on a player when I join a party. That’s what I’ ve been saying. And it doesn’t matter if I click on the party leader or anyone else.
I apologize for the long delay in response.
I am thankful for an answer from an Anet memeber… however… By now I have to admit I am beyond confused… if this happens mostly because they are on the EU and I am on the NA servers, does that mean that every party I join is from EU? None of those are made by NA players? How does one join a party formed in the NA servers without knowing? Sorry if it’s a mess of words, but I just don’t know what to think of it any longer. It’s really quite a bit of a pain.
@Lunacy Solacio, I am not sure this is it. Because it does not matter if I am online or offline – the result is the same :/
@ SirDaniel, I did no copying whatsoever, so I think it has nothing to do with it either.

The thing is, I can’t click ‘’join in…’’ because there is no ‘’join in…’’ tab to click and I am not sure what is causing it. Bug? So far, I’ve never had anyone say that they have this problem and ingame nobody ever responded about it when I asked, which probably means they’re not experiencing this and have no idea what’s up. And yes, I am in the same map.
(I also might have titled the topic a bit wrong, I know you first need to join a party in LFG. Sorry ’bout that).
Hello.
The problem I’ve been having since I occasionally started to use the LFG more is this that no matter what, I can never join a player in their instance, because there is never the ‘join in…’ option. I don’t know if it was always there, but I don’t think so. Their world is not full, and they’re not on any of the EU servers. I even tried going from offline to online, if it maybe had anything to do with that… still nothing. People can’t join my instance either. Now with the annoyingly (to me) timed map events of HoT, trying to get into an organized VB (or organized anything) is just impossible and since I got the expansion I managed to get a VB night that was on the fourth tier only once, and by pure luck.
But all of that stuff aside, the point is – does anyone have any idea why? The LFG tool to me is completely useless and I really want to know if it has happend or is happening to anyone else :/
P.S. My friend has been having the same issue and they wrote a ticket to Anet already, with no solutions so far and that was a while ago if I remember correctly.
Hmm, interesting. Thank you very much for this… I’ll give this solution a try as soon as possible. Very few people seem to have this I/O issue when it’s about GW2…
I don’t really have to worry about exploring the jungle, seeing as I don’t have the expansion, but I looked forward to enjoying Halloween haha.
I was surprised seeing an another post like this – I just mentioned the same thing in my own, about the disk I/O error. I feel kittenty commenting knowing I can’t really provide any solutions myself, because I am at a loss of what to do, but some people wrote a few things on my forum post about the I/O error, even if I had it pop out during normal gameplay, but now I also can’t download this at all (and it doesn’t even get to 1%). I can’t play the game now ._.
@Beldin Hell will probably freeze over before this happens haha.
But anyway, I guess this is a final update now, HoT/Halloween patch doesn’t even get to 1%, and I already get the error and I have to close it. I could play yesterday. Good thing I wasn’t able to get the expansion. In each case, thank you very much for the answers and tips here… Doesn’t look like I’ll be able to play this mmo in the foreseeable future, which makes me quite depressed.
Goodluck to y’all, though. Enjoy it!
@sirsquishy I do wish I could say I know how to do literally everything you just wrote up there hahaha. Sadly, while I am not exactly that bad with this stuff, there are some things I don’t know and don’t dare to do without someone who is better than me to make sure I don’t frick it all up lol. But thank you anyway :]
In each case, I did re-install GW2 and it works a bit better than it did before. I got the Disk I/O error again though, after the game and pc froze like hell. It does not work smoothly, really, but it’s somewhat better. I can log into Rata Sum and I don’t get the I/O thing after just a few minutes ingame. I don’t know, I guess I’ll leave it at that for the moment :/ Maybe one day I’ll have the chance to get rid of the issue x.x
I’ll take everything here into consideration and see what it can be done… although I fear the best solution would be getting a new disk… whiiich is not possible at the moment :| or in the foreseeable future. Arghh…
I also find it strange that GW2 is THE ONLY game giving me the disk error. I suppose I’ll maybe try re-installing it. It’s kinda hopeless in my eyes though.
My HDD is 1TB, by the way, @sirsquishy … I kinda prefer still getting a new HDD than SSD though… These laptops never give me a break, seriously haha.
If you have enough space you can also try the following :
create a folder on your harddisk and copy the content of your GW2 folder into it.If you have disk problems the copy may already hang at some point. Else if the
copy is finished start GW2 from the new folder.
Hah, tried that. PC froze at first, had to shut it down. Tried again then, and it copied files normally. But I still get the same error. I can’t log into Rata Sum at all. Maybe I should find some other forums that deal with laptop problems or something :/
If you had the laptop repaired recently for the same thing, can’t you take it back and tell them they didn’t fix it properly?
I had it ‘fixed’ around february/march… Anyhow I’ll need to find an another place where to take my laptop anyway.. that service is kinda… cr*ppy. Just personal experience that makes me hesitant going to the same place again.
Maybe its really a disk I/O error. Check your windows system logs and also the
smart status of your drive if you run out of redirection blocks.Of course it could also be a defect SATA cable, so if you have some spare cables
just try to change it.
Thanks for replying.
Tested the smart status, and the only tool that gives me anything, is CrystalDisk, about reallocated sectors count. Every other test I ran resulted in everything being okay, no errors ever found. Because the laptop seems to be running smoothly otherwise. The only time I get the error is with this game.
As for the SATA cables, I’ve none of them, sadly. I’d just like to know more precisely what’s wrong (although the only option by now would probably be taking the pc to a professional… whiiich is also not affordable atm), because it’s the second disk that died on this same laptop, and I’m not sure if it was just two bad disks in a row, or there’s something that keeps ‘breaking’ them :|
I tried to repair the client just now. Got the Disk i/o error yet again, so the repair didn’t continue. One option less and now I really think I did try everything.
Hello to all. As the title says I’ve got a strange problem with that error showing up, but I’ll explain further and maybe someone can offer me more advice on what to do, as I’ve already tried countless things and tests, and if I really need to change the hard drive afterall. I actually found around 3 topics about it, one with no replies and two with the same solution that for me didn’t do much.
It started a few months ago, when the game, as I entered Fields of ruins with a character on my started to completely freeze on me… like hiccuping… a very bad slide show and the FPS dropped randomly like crazy. From like 37 to 1. I get the laptop repaired, apparently a bad hard drive. I get the laptop back… not too long after the very same thing started to happen, and it’s been this way ever since, but going worse… laptop being terribly slow, game freezing, FPS dropping, windows itself crashing, taskbar and desktop freezing completely etc. Disk usage at 100% almost constantly. It was g oing batsh*t basically. At one point I decide to wipe everything from it, and set up the whole thing anew again. Fast-forward to now, everything seems to work well, no 100% disk usage anymore either, BUT the game keeps on trolling me. I log in perfectly. It gets me to the character screen. No freezing at all. It manages to log me in all the cities except Rata Sum, which is where I get the Disk i/o error. I managed to log into the Black Citadel, and after a minute or two of wandering, there’s the error again. The few moments I was ingame, it didn’t freeze and the FPS didn’t drop either. And I am incredibly confused.
I’m really sorry if I was vague, but basically, I just want to know what does the error mean exactly and why it seems to kind of appear randomly… and if this means that I definitely need to change the hard drive (in the end I believe this could be the only faulty part), which at the moment I cannot afford. Did anyone else have this problem too? I really would appreciate any kind of replies and if I was unclear about something, do ask and sorry about it. I’m just out of options by now and I really miss the game.
(I’ll post the laptop’s specs if needed)
Have you contacted the Tech CS Team for assistance? You can read about how to do so in the Knowledge Base (along with articles that may help).
Top/Bottom of Page – Support – Knowledge Base
Good luck.
Yeah, I did. I’ll see if that’ll bring any solutions.
you can try the following:
https://help.guildwars2.com/entries/28148006-Repairing-the-Game-ClientSee if that works for you, this process may take a while tho even on relatively faster computers.
If that doesn’t work, you may want to also try updating your video card drivers.
Also while it may not be the issue, you also want to try disabling your anti-virus program and seeing if it works without it.
Repairing the game client didn’t work either. Disabled anti virus as well… and as far as I know, the video card drivers are up to date as well. I think the ideas will run out before this is solved lol
Try using the -windowed option to force windowed mode. If you’ve played GW2 on it before, you can also try deleting your settings by deleting the folder
%appdata%/Guild Wars 2/ and if it exists, Documents/Guild Wars 2/Local.dat.If your laptop has multiple GPUs, try disabling all but the dedicated one. Some laptops for example have a dual setup; an integrated one for normal tasks and a dedicated one for 3D. Sometimes the wrong one will get used and cause it to fail.
What Healix said, deleting local.dat file should fix your issue.
Sadly, it didnt :/

Just tried windowed mode, still nothing happens, no game. I deleted the local.dat folder, but I can’t for the life of me find the appdata thing. And I used search. Or I just may be dumb for this one :|
I’ll see if I can do something with the GPUs.
Edit: Not even the GPU solution works. What the hell happend while this machine was on repairs Oo

Make sure to check your processes, you may have the client running but just not displaying on your screen.
You can try CTRL+ALT+DEL and open task manager and go to Processes.
Look for a gw2.exe, Terminate the process and try re-opening your client.
Tried that too, nothing’s there. I’m just at a loss of what to do anymore :/
Yyyeeah seems like no one knows about a solution. I tried re-downloading again and some other stuff, game still doesn’t launch… sigh. Thank you anyways, apparently I’ll have to write to CS.
Hi, I hope I can get any help dealing with this problem. I finally got my laptop back from being repaired, and I installed the game. No problems during installation itself at all, but now when I fill out the informations, email and password and click play, the launcher disappears and the game doesn’t launch at all. Nothing happens. Tried to run it as administrator too. I don’t know if it’s a pc problem or a game problem. Thing is, I can’t play :/ so I’d appreciate it if anyone could give any advice here. Thank you very much.
Sent a ticket, thing got solved
Thanks for your reply however and thanks to the GW2 support.
Hello, everyone!
It’s the first time I write here on the forums and I’d just like a few infos about this mobile authentication thing. I’ll definitely have to send in a support ticket to unlink the old phone from my account (if I understood everything right, this is confusing), because I cannot access to it anymore and obviously its codes (I’ve gotten a new phone and I’d like to link that one to my account now). What I’m wondering is what kind of informations should my ticket include aside from what’s the issue? Account name, password? Any character name? Phone number? I’m a little bit lost since I’ve never really sent a suport ticket and sorry if the question’s a bit dumb.
Have a nice day and thanks in advance.
