A norn would not understand Wintersday. It’s always snow in norn territory, so winter is the period of the year when the ale warms their bones the most.
I like this solution. I’ve been thinking about different ways to solve the botting problem. If you add points from being reported for botting the resulting list will be even more accurate.
One idea I’ve been thinking about is to actually add a captcha question to the bot detection process. If you accumulate enough points, a captcha will pop up when the following are met:
1. You are not in combat.
2. You have been active in the last 5 seconds.
You will not be able to interact with the game before the captcha has been answered. If the captcha is not answered within 5 minutes, the player will be logged out and auto reported. If you want to login again, you will have to answer the captcha.
This would not make it impossible to bot, but large scale bot operations will need constant monitoring to answer captchas. The point system can still be used for manual banning.
I think, even if every opened Black Lion Chest would provide a Halloween themed skin, people would still complain, because even after opening 40 chests there would be a 6.33% risk of not having the skin they really wanted ((14/15)^40). Instead, they would be sitting with 40 different skins with no real value that everyone would be using.
A random reward from doing something in the game would also make people complain. Remember how easy it was getting the Polar Bear mini?
First, people get angry that BLC’s have a rare chance of giving you something nice during Halloween, then they get more upset when you can use two of the three things you get form a BLC to get another go at possibly receiving the items available during Halloween.
I can not understand why so many people are angry at ANet. Not winning at gambling is to be expected.
I hope they will be fixing this and that it was unintended.
