I agree. I’m mainly a pver but I dabble, especially for crafting legendaries, and I recently got in the wvw mood, kinda wanna just play normal wvw and not worry about broken builds. I would’ve signed up for a test server if I wanted that, and there are plenty of people that would have done just that. It isn’t about pvpers thinking they’re better, it’s just they threw testing into a particular game mode, and as a result those people are now forced into the testing.
And yeah it’s just a weekend but maybe some people can only really play on the weekend. It’ll increase queue time and bring in a lot of people that don’t really care about WvW as much as they care about running around randomly with the elite spec instead of focusing on the actual game mode. The best comparison for pve I can think of would be doing your weekly raid kills but being forced to change your raid comp or bring along people you wouldn’t normally raid with, sure it would have its benefits and not everyone would be upset, but some people certainly would.
I understand the benefits, so I’m not gonna complain too much, I just simply wish they would’ve separated it somehow. EoTM would’ve been pretty perfect.
Coming from someone at max 193 mastery level I agree that a lot of the masteries are dumb and are by far the biggest thing I dread. After achieving max level mastery I wanted to maintain it, I like getting spirit shards. It may seem small to some people but I personally wish they would scrap releasing so many useless masteries. It became easier after some time but initially getting max mastery was a pain and not always fun, and I understand not every single thing is going to be fun for everyone but I think they kinda overdid it with the masteries.
On the plus side they added some Tyria insights for anyone struggling with maxing out the Tyrian mastery line.
Try a less squishy build would be my best recommendation. I main a ranger and I imagine I’ll use my magis set to see how far I can get with that achiev, I think it’s a really cool achievement, or a non meta defensive build. If you’re using meta dps builds remember that they’re targeted at specific content and are quite squishy. Killing the mobs slower increases your survival time and decreases their spawn rate and they only get stronger with each wave. Good luck!
Edit: Anise is like invincible, maybe use smokescale and staff 3 to stealth before they focus fire you and bring some more defensive abilities.

So rev was my last profession to get to 80 and is now prolly my second most played character. I kinda just made my own build for commanding DS and roaming around. I started using herald before it was complete and used perma swiftness to do some map complete and then finished off the line. The elite facet is a good bar breaker + protection. Small thing I’ve picked up is if you don’t wanna use your facet skills but are low on energy load them all up til yur energy drains and they turn off with a shorter cooldown at which point you can reactivate them, this includes the elite facet if the breakbar gets broken before activating it, which also gives a few extra seconds of protection. I don’t like wasting one of the few bar breakers I have.
I recommend hopping on an hp train or just perma swiftness run around Tyria doing hps to finish it off, it’s worth it and doesn’t take too long, hp trains are faster.
I originally used sword/axe and hammer, switched to sword/shield and really liked it. Like I said I kinda made a sorta funky build to suit my needs as I have plenty of other characters for raids and such. I use glint and ventarri, full commanders armor, zerk weapons. I have a staff I use from time to time but I like hammer for range, plus hammer 5 breaks bars and 3 and 5 are blast finishers and 3 is also an evade. Switch back and forth between legends when needed or when energy is low or you need some extra healing, protection, etc. ventarri bubble is nice for picking up downed allies, good for quick condi cleanse as well with healing and alacrity as a bonus.
This is my experience with herald in a nutshell, I pretty much built it to command DS but I do plenty of other things with it. This is just a personal wants pve build, I’d never expect it to be a raid meta build but I really enjoy it. With a few tweaks and practice I’m sure you can do raids, I know some people that use their revs in raids successfully.
Overall I think you should finish herald, I like ventarri but just choose a second legend you like or I’m sure there’s more experienced revs that can give you input. I think sword/shield for more defensive play and sword/axe for more offensive. I like hammer since it’s our only true ranged weapon and isn’t bad for a lot of pve. Staff is nice as well but I hardly use it I wouldn’t call it a necessity.
Hope this can somewhat help, hope you get some more replies from more experienced revs as well. Good luck and have fun!!
Edit: forgot you mentioned jalis, I really enjoyed those hammers while leveling, jalis would prolly be a good choice if you enjoy it, I ran jalis and shiro before I unlocked herald. I find hammer 2,3 and 5 good aoe, jalis hammers are good aoe, sword 2 and 3 are good multi target attacks too and facet of elements to elemental blast is good aoe. If you like taking on multiple enemies at once these are all good options and if you find yourself in a bind shield 5 is pretty sweet to recover with and hammer 4 is a good reflect. Don’t forget switching legends to regain your energy with a quickness.

Ranger was my first leveling experience, so that might be part of the reason, but it was my fav class to level and still fav to play. Taming all the pets is fun, plus being able to get around. Or do what my friend did and boost and then map complete. But yeah ranger is fun there’s been some good responses in this thread.
I recommend crafting, it’s fun and rewarding! Anywho, I love my ranger/Druid. I have 3 ascended sets, power, magi, and vipers, and I use all three sets in different situations, depending on what I feel like playing at the time. So I’m not sayin you need to get all three sets, I mean it’s fun, but what I’m sayin is I play my power Druid in all different content, and I do just fine. Raiding would prolly be the hardest place to get a spot unless you have a group of friends, pugs would be hard. Power ranger is viable but not really desired over condi and magis Druid. But yeah the lack of personal dps isn’t why you’d run a power Druid, spotter, spirits, Gotl, those are always useful for groups. There’s currently shinier options but it’s still viable, you can def play power. And for solo/running around builds just take some diff utilities instead of spirits.
I personally don’t think taimis plan worked, it was too easy…not even talking story instance-wise, just story-wise it was too easy…and kinda anti-climactic. I assume there will be some kinda twist.
Sigil swapping would be sweet, hope they implement it eventually. And yeah as nice as legendary armor is you’d prolly have multiple ascended sets by the time you get to that point.
i’d like to have power ranger buffed a lot to be on par
Agreed, I have full ascended zerk, magis, and vipers, but I just prefer power, and some raid groups simply won’t take power(my experienced raid friends basically said lie if I wanna run power in any pug group cuz most groups want magis or condi ranger, and for a reason so I understand.)
Nothin against condi rangers and I enjoy magis actually. So no arguments here, just wishful thinking. And a long drawn out agreement.
This(or a variation of this) could be said for many/all professions tho I suppose, I also wish revs were more desirable.
Either way, enough of my jibber jabber I agree, a buff for power would be sweet.
For your question on if the xpac is worth it…definitely. Most def. Totes magotes. I bought a copy for myself and a copy for my friend and it was totally worth it.
When we played together we did a lot of core Tyria stuff (including map complete) while my friend got used to the game(didn’t boost, etc)
When my friend wasn’t on I would venture into HoT(to get some experience for when my friend got there and to unlock my elite spec) and by the time my friend was ready for HoT I was using an alt to go through the story.
So anyways, take that however you want. Basically I guess I’m saying you might wanna spend some time in Tyria before jumping into HoT. Some people complain about HoT being hard, it’s difficult at first but it becomes really fun after a bit imo. Silverwastes felt really hard when I first step foot in there, now it’s one of my favorite zones.
I’m guessing they’re tearing everyone apart so they can make a reason for us to all come back together and have us “save the day” in the grand scheme of things.
Yeah my bags are a mess especially on my “main”
I’ve expanded my bank and gotten extra bag slots(maxed on my “main”) but my friend for example isn’t as fortunate(or dedicated to grinding gold for gems and/or buying gems) and has major issues with bag space. The wallet is so good and people have suggested great solutions, but it’s still a problem
@OP this really frustrated me too and I got flack for it, but I also got some advice, some people are cool some are jerks. I eventually took some of these tips and figured it out solo. Basically I started at the peach tree, climbed my way up as high as possible, changed up some skills and ran in. Died but got the poi.
However I think as time goes on it’ll become easier because I believe that’s going to be a leather farming area so there will probably start to be more people running through it. Hang in there, try not to let it ruin it for you, almost did for me.
The jades were annoying and I just kinda felt like it was poorly designed. Loading in and having half health cuz I was vulnerable through the load screen didn’t help. Felt good to overcome it but was more like “finally” rather than “I did a good job”
It could be a good fight tho and I hope they update it a little bit.
