Only visible in combat would be great. This thread pops up weekly and that’s about the only good solution anyone has come to.
That’s a good idea. It still needs to be visible in combat. It’s one of the few boons that you can see from a distance. It’s very hard to see retaliation for instance.
The squeaky wheel gets the grease. We need to be more squeaky so the devs will at least give us a response to let us know they are working on giving Necromancer a helping hand. I will be satisfied just knowing they see the class has issues holding it back.
I agree with the Staff point. All Marks should have a secondary utility like Mark of Blood does. Mark of Blood causes bleeding as well as gives Regen. Chillblains should give Swiftness, Reapers Mark should give stability. Marks should work more like wells in that you lay them and they give the effect instead of having to be triggered.
Edit: One trait that really bugs me is Spiteful Vigor. Gain Retaliation for 5 seconds when using a heal. Vigor IS IN THE NAME! GIVE US VIGOR!. Even if its a measly 5 seconds every 25-30 seconds, it is still at least one source of Vigor. Or make it grant 3 seconds of Vigor when leaving DS. Even though there are like 10 traits that have “when leaving DS”, its still a source of Vigor, and we desperately need Vigor.

Post patch:
Tier S
nadaTier A
BM Ranger = Engi = Ele = Guard = ThiefTier B
NecroTier C
WarriorHonestly all classes have a place in tourneys at the moment depending on comp and playstyle. I haven’t seen the game more balanced and diverse in builds (for most classes) as it is at the moment.
I really couldn’t be happier with where the game is going
You forgot Mesmers Ostrrich : P . I don’t know why people rank Necro over Warrior. They’re both in the same state right now. I’ve seen some good aggressive Warriors popping up lately.
While on the bunker subject, I was thinking about why an Elementalist is better than a Necro at bunkering.
-Vigor <this guy again
-Teleports if they get knocked off point
- invulnerability through mist form
- Stability on 90 second cd. What our Spectral Armor coulda been. Also gives protection.
- Healing similar to Guardian
- Ride the Lightning
Why is it the 2 classes with the highest HP pools are the worst in TPvP? Thinking ANet over estimated the usefulness of high base health. Instead of high health other classes get better ways to mitigate and heal through damage.
Having 3 wells but no siphon on Wells seems strange to me. I’d like to try this mystery build. Currently playing bunker Guard because I can bunker, as well as offer group support through aoe condi removal, aoe swiftnesss, group stability, aegis, group healing, group might, immoblize, area denial, and stomp protection. What can Necro bunker do?
One thing I learned when playing bunker Guardian is that there will still be certain players that can still 1v1 you, and that you’re not completely invincible. Dodging often, and using your condi removal in a smart manner will get you far. Also don’t panic and blow your CDs at once.
The main dmg from an HGH is coming from burning,.
The main dmg from a necromancer is coming from bleeding. The problem is that bleeding stacks in intensity and hurts only above 6+ stacks. Burning on the otherside is stacking in duration and is in every second painfull.
As necromancer lacks in burning and has a really hard time to get several stacks bleeding on a player, due to ele’s and shout-guardians, this surely puts him behind the “grenade-spammer”.
Meanwhile the engineer is constantly putting burning on a target, which doesn’t require stacking, ergo doesn’t require time to get intense.
Engineer also has good base power with his grenades. Try killing a Trebuchet as an HGH Engi. Then try to kill the Treb with a condi Necro. It will take you about 3 minutes longer. Or atleast it feels that way. When I’m getting nades lobbed at me, I “feel” the high inc damage right away.
The last tournament had no Necromancers. Obv this means no teams anywhere run necros (yeahno).
I’ll eat my words when there are teams with Necromancers that are participating and WINNING in the Master of the Mists.
Surely Arena Net has been watching the recent tournaments and has taken note the complete lack of Necromancers on any team worth their salt. Hopefully something will be done to make Necromancers a viable option in the near near future. I know they’re working on a new DS 5 skill, but I hope that is not all we’re going to get.
Necro is often believed to be the class with the most build variety. The problem is every build is equally mediocre in pvp.

" Virtue of Courage, and about 600 per dodge roll. "
Oh but wait! We have Mark of blood on dodge! Which gives regen! IF they trigger it and IF you didn’t try to use it twice in a row and IF you’re still in the area!
Exactly. I’m running a Shamans amulet and using Mark of Dodge. The regen is easily stripped by thieves, and can be prevented with blind, or enemies just not stepping in it. It’s only good when you’re getting trained by a melee or Ranger’s pet. I consider it my main form of survival outside of my main heal. Unfortuantely I have no points in SR so even if I do get that extra healing, I get hardly any life force. I’d hate to drop 20 points to pick up Soul Marks and end up completely killing my damage. Necro why you so frustrating.
I think better Siphons would be nice. How is 25 health pert hit and 30 health per crit justifiable? A bunker Guardian can passively heal himself for 130 per tick with just Virtue of Courage, and about 600 per dodge roll. But wait we have Deathly Invigoration which heals when we leave DS. Whoops only heals for a measily 250. I know Guardian has a lot less base HP than we do, but they also have Invulnerability, Aegis, Protection,Vigor, and tons of healing. We have some protection, DS, no vigor, and weak siphons. Not being able to heal while in DS is also a kick in the kitten Life Force is also a chore to generate for non power builds without 30 in SR. I would not mind if Arena Net removed the damage component of siphon traits in order for us to get more health and give LF instead of the damage. If I’m not mistaken, back in beta siphon abilities healed for TONS. They over nerfed them. If siphon skills were double they would be reasonable. 60 per hit, and about 80-90 per crit would make me happy. Buff Deathly Invigoration to about 900 heal and increase the area. I’m just ranting at this point but we need some changes badly, and I can’t wait much longer. I know lots of other classes need changes too, but we need to be viable in tournaments first.
I think Arena Net thinks DS/Life Force is more valuable then it really is. Why can’t we heal while in DS? Why is LF so difficult to gain for scepter/staff if not specced into SR tree. Why must we start a match with 0 LF. I really hope they’re working on something for us. With all the tournaments coming up lately with cash prizes, anyone who has invested all of their time into their Necro is SoL. It would be nice for them to let us know that they hear our frustrations. We need an Engineer like overhaul with a bombardment of changes.
From the tournament here are some of the teams that made it past the first elimination round
We Are Extremely Ugly – No Necros
Team Paragon – No Necros
Thats So Pish – No Necros
Team Idle – No Necros
Royal Legion – No Necros
Vengenace of the Fallen – No Necros
AKGL Phantom – No Necros
There isn’t much to say. Necromancers have no place in tpvp right now. I have almost 700 hours on my Necro pvp and pve and quite frankly, i’m shelving her and playing Guardian until we get some much needed attention. Playing other classes has made me realize how useless some of our traits and utilities really are. Reanimator (useless), Spiteful Vigor (should give vigor not retal), Target the Weak (useless in curses tree), Dark Armor (useless), Quickening Thirst(who uses this?), Deathly Invigoration (weak), and all siphon skills need to be looked at.
Unfortunately we’re just average at every role. mediocre bunker, mediocre burst, mediocre healing, flat out bad roamers, and mediocre conditions because its almost all bleed damage.

Play a non Asura in pvp. Then roll Asura with the same class. Take note of your improvement and enjoy.
Congratz guys
Watched the whole thing live. I really liked your match against rangers on Kyhlo.I didn’t watch the stream for the second bracket, but when I switched for the finale and saw what the match-up would be I thought “nooooo…. this might end really bad”
I totally agree with Bhawb and Kravick here. As a necro mesmers are the hardest class to play. If there’s a full team of them who also know they will be encountereing necros only, then there’s just very little you can do :/
@MightyTroll: I’m not saying that mesmers are op. I definitely disagree that they (or thieves) are “unbeatable if played correctly”.
Sometimes matching classes against each other creates a rock-paper-scissor effect.
Not only is this most prevalent in mesmer vs necro fights but gets amplified once there’s a whole team of mesmers who knows they’re up against necros.I’m willing to say that Mesmers, Thieves, and Necromancers have the tools to be OP. It simply depends on the skillcap of each class as to how far you can make them OP. Necromancer has an incredibly high learning curve to become truly OP, often requiring inhuman skill to reach it. Mesmers and Thieves are easier to come close to that OP margin. They have all of the tools to dominate everyone.
I think Necro is very good, just that some classes are flat out better equipped for team play. We need more abilities for removing conditions for our teammates. Dagger 4 Deathly Swarm for example. Why can’t this cure conditions on allies as well as transfer to enemies? Why is the projectile so kitten slow? Plague form is borderline silly. You get condition kited all day against decent players. I agree Necro has a high learning curve, and I’m much better now at rank 30 then I was at rank 20.
Anyone watch Mesmers vs Necros? It was painful : ( The average Mesmer rank was twice as high as the Necro players rank.

Have to wait til you’re done bouncing.
Do these level 1-2 people have multiple accounts and know what they’re doing? If I was level 1, the last thing I’d do is que a Tourny if I just started playing the game. Maybe its because the Tourny podium is closer than the Structured podium.
NEVER SOLO QUE if you care about your rating. If you do solo que, don’t expect to win.
If you have some healing power you can outlive your opponent. Maybe i’m mistaken, but running Shamans amulet I’ve noticed a difference. This shouldn’t be the case since its a siphon skill.
That would be pretty sweet if it was 400 full time, but way OP. Imagine if Life Transfer traited with Transfusion and Dagger #3 benefiting from more healing. What if Dark Armor gave +400 healing power while channeling? What if you had a regen on you during the channel? I can only wish we’d have something that awesome.
