I’m running scholar, in this zerker meta it is the go-to for mesmers to maximize your dps.
Switch out your weapons with sword/focus and sword/pistol. Keep spamming phantasms and they’ll deal with him.
Yeah we hit phase 2, but we were never quick enough to break the breakbar and control vale, so hitting circles was an impossible task.
We will be giving it another go on sunday, and I’ll adapt like you said after that.
If there are any mesmers out there who has managed to clear the first boss running shield spec, I’d love to hear about it!
I’d like to write about how I played chronomancer in our first raid. I feel like I’m playing far from perfect, and I’d love to receive some feedback about how I can improve my rotation and build.
The build
I equipped sword/pistol and sword/shield, using the following build: http://dulfy.net/gw2traits#build=AgMEaAKoBvw~ which I think might be too support oriented, as the raid seems to require a massive amount of dps.
The utility skills
Signet of the Ether – Provides healing over time to deal with the damage aura
Well of Action – Grants quickness and alacrity to players
Well of Recall – Grants tons of alacrity to players
Well of Precognition – Grants evasion to players (I use this when 5 players are inside a circle and seekers aren’t knocked back)
Time Warp – Grants quickness
The rotation
- I begin the fight summoning a phantasmal duelist, switching to shields, and using shield 4 twice. This grants me 3 illusions from the beginning, 1 that does dps, 2 that grant alacrity to the melee tanking the boss.
- When a circle appears, I use continuum split, and spam time warp and the two first wells on the circle, and shield 5. This should provide the circle team a massive amount of dps and cooldown reduction.
- When circle ends, I run up to the boss, do blurred frenzy, shatter, shield 4 and sword 3 (grants me three new illusions).
- Every third circle, I swap to pistol to summon a duelist, signet, duelist since wells are on cd.
That’s my rotation, my personal dps is decent, but I think I’m making up for it by providing the raid with constant cooldown reduction and quickness.
Final thoughts
As you might have noticed, I rarely switch to pistol during the fight. I only do it when my wells are on cd, or during a split to increase dps instead of utility. A lot of my time is spent spamming wells on circles and summoning new phantasms so I can shatter them.
If I drop shield completely, it will significantly reduce my survivability (so much that I’m not sure if I’ll survive), but it will allow me to significantly increase my personal DPS.
If I drop inspiration from my build, I can again increase personal DPS a lot, but reduce both my personal and raid survivability.
While other people are running around with precursors, I got disconnected, and all I have are these kittened phase 1 items filling up bank inventory. Can I throw them away now or what?
I’ve been playing GW2 since launch, and actively defended it against critique. Today, I ran a couple of explorable mode dungeons like I usually do daily, and thought nothing of it. I’ve done them so many times that it has become a braindead routine. Later I logged on to facebook, and read this post made by Jesse Cox (OMFGcata from youtube):
“How can people defend PVE in GW2…seriously. SERIOUSLY. You enter a dungeon and the mechanic for the “event” is “defend a guy” and you would think all lvl 80s, with high end 80 armor, could actually do some damage. But NOPE. And then because the game has no tanks or healers per say, the mobs keep coming and widdle down your forces. So the only effective strat is to kite them around – but even then, they keep spawning more and more while you wait for the NPC to use his special and complete the event. The problem is, there are so many and they all 2 shot you, that you have to die and run back…over and over and over. Time, and money wasted to complete a NONBOSS event. Then the boss… here’s the infuriating part – you don’t even take damage…. !!!!!!!!!!!!! There is no amount of loot, good “I just did that feeling”, or guild fun times in the world to make up for how bad dungeons are in this game. I can’t even describe how much I hate them. Here’s the best part – YOU CAN make it easy – but that requires “a tank” and a “healer”…BOTH OF WHICH THE GAME SAYS YOU DON’T NEED. WHY SAY IT, IF IT’S A BOLD FACED LIE. /jumpkickababy
I would rather go through 1000 dungeons in WoW, Rift, or any other similar game where the enemy mechanics are at least understandable and if you suck it up you run back to pay for your mistakes. But in GW2, dying and running back mid fight is one of the best strategies for certain dungeon encounters……?????????"
I realized… I can’t defend against that. He is absolutely right! The balance is just OFF, and the mechanics are, more often than not, poor. The kiting, going from stupidly easy to stupidly hard encounters, the spawnrunning mid fight to keep the encounter going, and having no excitement from the loot either. You should be able to get some good dungeon specific loot from the bosses/chests in addition to the tokens. Arah is probably a prime example. It’s supposed to be what your personal story builds up to" You run it with a pug… it’s extremely hard, you keep spawning over and over and run back to finish each event… then you get to zhaitan, and you spend 10 minutes autoattacking him without even taking damage.
I hope future dungeons actually include fair, balanced content with fun mechanics… because currently, most dungeons are horrible
On my server (whiteside ridge), the progress has been stuck on “waiting for reinforcements from the north”. I have ran around and done every dynamic event north of the rally point I could find, but no change.
I am wondering if there’s a special chain that finally triggers this, or if it’s bugged?
