Khanswrath.1032 – I never played GW1 so thank you for the information.
The only question I have in response is this…
Why does it matter if everyone else has <insert item here> if YOU enjoy it?
I just never understood the mentality of “I have it therefore to feel like a special snowflake you can’t have it.”
Guess it’s just a matter of preference and feeling unique.
P.S. I am not being condescending when I say “special snowflake”. I am just stating what I read whenever I see “If everyone else has then its not special.”
I think you have the rage parody reversed.
I would argue the whole thing being in caps would be the most accurate
Anyways one more question for everyone…
Why do you think ANet decided to have “rare” holliday event skins?
As far as I can tell these holiday skins are the only skins in the game that are “limitied edition” meaning there is actually a limited supply atm.
Thoughts?
Opening BLC’s were/are a risk.
Maybe thats the question we should be asking. Why were receiving a holiday skin for a holiday event a risk and even in the BLC to begin with?
Personally I find it funny ANet didnt just have a event tab on the TP and just have the skins for sale. I think this would have made for many more satisfied customers and probably more money.
Question for everyone…
Did ANet release the odds of receiving a holliday even skin from the BLC?
If not do you think they should have and if they did where is it?
If getting a refund makes them screw me over even more by closing my account, then so be it. The game is okay but not to the point where I will cry over it. I have my choice of many other games to play, this being one of my more recent purchases. So as the saying goes, “It’s no skin off my back.”
How did they “screw you over” in any way?
You took a chance, on an item that was clearly stated to have a chance of appearing, and chance was not in your favor. How much money did you actually spend that you are irrate?
Just out of curiosity, did ANet post the odds of getting said items from the BLC?
I have heard a lot of players moaning about spending money in this game on the trade post, why?
They are not moaning about spending money on the trade post. They are moaning about spending money on the trade post and not getting a event skin.
Anyways I am still confused as to why ANet didn’t just make them available via direct gem purchase like every other skin on the TP. Probably would have made more money and have less of a headache listening to people getting upset over it.
Its supposed to be rare, otherwise everyone would have it.
I have seen this stated many many times and each time I ask myself….so?
I mean if you enjoy the skin who cares if others have it?
OK I saw this thread and was like “how bad can it be”.
Well it is that bad. What the KITTEN is up with ANet changing things that don’t need to be changed and not changing things that do need tweaking….
First they rearrange my guardian greatsword abilities now this…
@Rynarx
While the cost of traveling is covered the gain/time ratio is way off.
Zen hit the nail square on the head…its because of what can drop…even if its .001%
On the 5th day of Christmas my ANet gave me to…MOON GUARD RP!!!
OK that’s disgusting.
1G to the 1st person who can name that reference.
I never said or implied that made GW2 a BAD GAME ~ just that it doesn’t make sense to defend or claim that it’s a “different” MMO.
I know a lot has been said but I want to piggy back this statement because I agree with it 100%.
In my opinion GW2, though a good game, has not done anything all that “different”, they just changed the angle at which we view something.
Examples:
Gear treadmill was replaced with the skin treadmill. A primary grind in this game is to get “rare” and “legendary” skins instead of rare and legendary gear. It is still a grind which requires farming, the main difference is one has stats and the other doesn’t.
For the most part dynamic events are nothing more than repeatable quests. Even DE that have multiple stages are nothing more than quests chains. Main difference is that you don’t have to turn them in and they usually require some assistance. The rest of the dynamic events are…ready for it?
Group dynamic events is GW2 speak for raid…except you don’t need to be in a group. The really depressing part is that all, except for a few primary group DE, DE are tank and spank…oh wait sorry we don’t have tanks…are show up and spank…or something.
I am going to stop here because I don’t want to come across as someone who is bashing this game because I am not. Just pointing out that in my opinion ANet has done a good job redefining the apple into an orange.
Malum, I have bought all my skills, spent 200 to get the legendary component and still have about 100 skill points left…you will be fine.
@Logun (For the sake of not quoting a long post)
I started typing out a very long dragged out explination on how the the skin desparity has already started and is thus in essence no different than a gear treadmill but…I just dont have the patience at this time.
Anyways I think we are both in agreeance a core difference is that people have access to all the content of GW2 once you hit a certain level as opposed to a gear check in other MMO’s.
All in all that is what I was trying to elude to in my posed question is that in fact the only real difference between GW2 and other gear MMO’s is access to content.
I say that I disagree on the that the gear system divides players where this system does not…just look at the some of the posts in the Halloween event forums. We already have people stating skins need to be “rare” and only allow a small number of people have access to these skins to keep them “special”. Kitten look at all the threads for legendary skins. Like I said different item, same mentality.
Also like every other MMO you can do whatever you want. No one is forcing you to do the gear tredmill. Most MMO worlds are quite large and have plenty to do. Now of course a main difference is that GW2 has DE, Vista’s, etc where other games have the golden “!”. However, ultimately how is this much different? IN GW2 a lot of the DE events are “defend by killing”, “gather X of Y and give it to person Z to then kill ABC”. Yes some events do lead to other events but usually one quest leads to another. Same concept, different wrapper.
Also, it is really that bad that you cant do everything right now? I personally never saw a problem with not being able to see everything because I was too focused on playing a game the way I want to, not the way others did and knew I would get there eventually. My only problem was the number of people required to do it which this game definetly got right at 5 people.
In closing I do want to note that I am not bashing GW2 in any way. I think its a good game with a good solid foundation to become what everyone thinks it is. But as it stands right now I feel its for the most part just another MMO with a different wrapper suggesting it is what it is not.
Flame away
Edit: I eagerly await to see what ANet does…like I said…strong foundation.
So I am going to throw something out there for discussion.
The main core difference between GW2 and “gear tredmil” MMO’s is GW2 removed the stats progression and replaced it with skins.
If the above is true then…how is this not like every other MMO just with a different wrapper around the grind?
Maybe I just dont understand this game and maybe its not for me…which I am totally fine with because obviously a lot of people love this game. I just don’t see how this game is any different than other MMO’s…other than everyone can do everything by default.
Thoughts?
I believe its possible to get a precursor from the chests like it is possible to get one from some of the temple chests.
If not…then I a see no point other than “its a dragon!”.
Well it’s important to realize the utility of boosters for your own sake if you’re struggling for game income. For some people, any booster will do, and the services part helps alleviate the cost of doing lucrative things (transmuting, mining, salvaging, fighting bosses that kill you or damage your armor, filling your inventory) so if you’re flexible and just want some boost help, the chests are not a bad idea. If you can only do it one way and you only need one type of booster or service, then don’t buy the chest, but I know plenty of people where this is not the case.
Fair enough. Respect
That’s not true. Most boosters cost more gems than 1 key, which also gives you a service, unless you’re buying karma boosters, which you will need less now that we have liquid karma. Due to magic find, all the rest are interchangeable: put on the buffs and magic find, or put on the magic find booster and your best gear.
Ha working again.
3 out of the 6 boosters cost 25 gems more than a key. However you take out the random element so it by far cheaper to just directly buy they booster you want. Especially since there are more than 6 types of boosters that come out of the BLC.
Anyways we are derailing this forum so lets agree to disagree
Gah the Quote/Edit buttons do not work again…
Clarification…the main reason I found the whole putting skins into the BLC is because prior to this event I had never heard of anyone buying keys. I just found it a cheap gimmick to get people to buy keys to buy chests to get nothing more than they would have prior to the event.
Make sense?
you don’t get nothing; you get whatever was in the black lion chests before the event. It’s not like you need 2 keys to open a chest now.
And the contents IMO do not justify the cost. It is way cheaper to just buy the boosters you want.
UGH quoting is not working again…fine.
@Creaky
Thanks for the clarification, I hope i didn’t come across as trollish but I know there are people out there that think this game is difficult and it makes me nervous from a gamer’s standpoint…like you said…look at WoW.
Anyways now that we have that sorted out…I think the whole concept of these chests are beyond pointless. As a matter of fact I would argue they are counterproductive in the GW2 community. If ANet came out and said “$10 and you get whatever Halloween skin you want” this whole conversation would never have happened and everyone would be happy. Instead we have numerous forum posts showing disdain towards ANet.
I will note though that it was clearly marked that there was only a “chance” to get one of the skins so it was definitely a gamble. Which brings me to my next point…why is there gambling in an MMO? Now yes we don’t have slot machines out in Lion’s Arch but I find it in poor taste that people can spend RL money on something…and get nothing…in a video game. Again yes it was the persons choice to engage in the activity but why the Kitten Kitten was it implemented this way?
TL:DR Should have made the skins a direct purchase ANet!
People just seriously need to stop asking for handouts, this isn’t easy-land, this is GW2.
Are you trying to imply this game is in any way difficult?
Aside from having horrible camera issues while doing some of the puzzles they are what they are.
I personally don’t like them very much, except for the Eternal Battlegrounds one that’s a love hate relationship.
I view them as “something to do”…that I don’t do
Lol I can’t help myself…
Gw2’s dungeons aren’t a face roll. Sorry!
With a group of non-idiots they sure as kitten are.
Problem is finding the non-idiots
I will bet you that given the state of the game, it will take the “regular player” way more than 6 months to a year to get the legendary.
Then again define “regular”.
You can get the gold you need to purchase all you need for a legendary in a month. the best skins.
Let’s do some math here.
Assumptions:
Purchase the pre-cursor, lets use dusk, which is 350g atm IIRC
Average farmer gains about 3g an hour minus lucky drops
Farmer farms 25% of the required 400 level crafting items, purchasing the other 75%
Farmer farms all mats needed for gift of metal
Estimated cost of all mats: 350g for dusk, 100g for Icy Stones, 20g for both gift recipies, 95g for onyx lodestones, 50g for 400 level crafting items (kittenumption here but follow along) and of course 375 globs of ectoplasm so another 50g. Total cost of Twilight gold wise is…665g.
Ok now adjust for Gold Per Hour your farming time is about 220 hours to “buy” twilight….yup…doable in a month if you have nothing else to do…or if you have help or there is always getting lucky with Dusk or other drops. Either way…more than likely to take longer than a month? Also dont forget other non-purchasable requirements like WvW, dungeons and karma.
If they were any less rare everyone and their little sister would have a legendary and the best skins.
Based off my experience trying to farm Onyx Lodestones, running at 120% MF btw, even if you doubled the drop rates it would take me 300 hours to get 100 Onyx Lodestones since it took me 6 hours to get 1. Bad luck I know but still even if you averaged 2 an hour, thats 50 hours to get em…which mean you should just buy em.
Anyways I think its safe to say that it takes way longer than a month to get a legendary and that we are in no danger of “everyone and their little sister” having one in the near…or distant future.
TBH I run around looking for the unprotected supply depot and solo them. Takes a few minutes but in general I get away with it and it can totally screw with their supply chain if the opposing teams are not careful.
I find it easier to avoid detection while running solo and if nothing else…most wont persue one defender 30 yards away making it plausable to do this.
I propose a full audit of the BLTP. I believe the BLTP is in bed with Anet because when the TP was unstable for two weeks…who bailed Black Lion out? Thats right, Anet…the governing body of Tyria.
As stated by others I believe the BLTP is speding the millions of gold they “sinked” out of the econmy to lobby against Anet to keep the mystic forge drop rates as low as possible. I mean, you buy a thousand items from the TP, pay your 15%, throw them into the mystic forge and what do you get? Thats right, another trip to the BLTP…brilliant!
…eh I am trying too hard…
Q. Why hasn’t Anet got rid of all the bots!?
ANet has no reason to care.
No sub = no reason to care, fewer/no GMs, fewer CSRs, etc.
No players = no gems being bought = no more revenue.
This game generates revenue from being a MT game….
Fun example would be the “bonus event” in AC where you have to kill a legendary spider. Did 3 AC runs in the last few days all of which had this “bonus event” and what did I get…a white quality glove….a white quality belt and a blue helmet…all level 34. Yup awesome event…didnt even get the “Event Successful” trigger that gives exp, karma and gold…which implies its not even an event.
Oh and I forgot something…
Clovers…
for the RNG haters, clovers have RNG on em too, I’ve thrown in three sets of the 10 recipes to be rewarded with 37 vicious fangs, 25 orichalcum, and 10 clovers.
I think a big problem people have attempting a precurser is that its either you get one, or you get 1/4 of the mats back. Unlike your situation where each attempt you got something that was needed (both the vicious fangs and orichalcum can go toward carfting the legendary). Also please note you got what you needed 1/3 of the time, like all references to Mystic Clovers says you will (on average). Unlike a precurser we have no idea what the true chance is…cept its stupid low.
My 2c.
I just want to throw out there that farming Onyx Lodestones sucks as well
It’s very doable, just takes some time. While leveling I did Weaponsmithing and Jeweler at the same time. Now I wont say it wasn’t frustrating at times with all the additional farming I had to do but then again this was before they got the TP up and running.
My suggestion would be to go into multiple area’s where the material you are looking for it located. This way you dont feel like you are running the endless hamster wheel and get additional exp for exploration.
Also if push comes to shove, buy some mats off the TP. Most material isnt that expensive atm so a few S here and there shouldnt be too bad.
