Time to refocus and clarify GW2's goals?

  • These ‘substantial updates’ have very little actual content involved. It may be an LS update where a new zone comes out, but that’s hardly what a lot of people here are looking forward to. When you see quite a lot of complaints about LS being pushed too hard over actual player-retaining content releases (ie. stuff people actually want in the game and have been crying out for for over 2 years), then ‘what’ is substantial to ‘whom’ would have to be brought into question….

Now, I may be missing the point, but I think you are, too. Hands down, the thing people have been lamenting the absolute very most over the last two years is lack of end game content and options; something which Anet have been knocking out of the park with Season 2 of the LS. Players complained (maybe rightfully so) about lack of permanent end-game content, then as soon as that is remedied they start having issues with everything else, completely forgetting their previous focus.

The hardcore community is never going to be happy, but that’s no reason to forget how much Anet HAS been listening in regards to permanent content and meaningful updates.

Shaman Gear?

What about a pseudo-tanky condi pet build using Invigorating Bond? It feels like that traits has some hidden potential, but i have yet to really crack it. Maybe it’s just my gear, Shaman’s looks like it would be a lot better for it.

Looking for active guild [Yak's Bend]

Hey everyone,

Since launch I’ve been part of a very small guild consisting of mostly real-life friends, but due to schedules and what-not our guild hasn’t been very active lately. Up until recently I’ve mostly stuck to PvE and PUG dungeons, but I would like to find a guild which is socially active with PvE, dungeons and WvW, in addition to one that could show me the ropes of PvP as a composed team. I’m usually playing a few nights a week.

Lately I’ve been starting World Completion and gathering Charged Lodestones in CoE for Bolt, but if there is some form of grouping that makes Legendaries easier to acquire I would also be interested in that, even if it’s just tips/feedback/strategies.

It’s probably worth noting that my guild does occasionally do things, as as such it would be hard for me to represent 100% of the time. Just an FYI.

I don’t know if class matters, but I have a Ranger, Mesmer and Guardian all at level 80 with decent gear. I am on Yak’s Bend.

If your guild matches what I’m looking for I would love to learn more! Comment here, whisper or mail me in game.

10% loss in damage, yeah right.

My crit damage went from 204% to 207% for some reason, I don’t have any buffs or anything, but once I actually crunch the number I’m sure I will find the reason why. My crit chance DID go down about 12%, which is fine in my opinion. I’m not particularly tanky, so that may be why it hasn’t affected me as much. Maybe you can find a new, viable alternative?

Thank you for taking the time to make a guide! I’ve been waiting until the weekend to check the bosses out and this will make it much easier to get used to the mechanics of the marionette!

Pet Shouts should always apply to Character

I run LB with a near 100% crit chance/damage build and I need to keep my Red Moa on defense just so I can make sure I get the Fury from it. I have a lot of fun with it, but I cant help but feel I’m not using a pet how it should be used (it’s not fighting with me). It would be nice if the buff was a sure-thing at any range, but I would be fine if it even just had an increased effectiveness range for the pet owner, that way it could help me as more than just a wonky utility skill.

CDI- Character Progression-Horizontal

I did a couple runs in Ascalon Catacombs earlier with a really nice PuG who was largely new to dungeons. Afterwords I offered to let them add me to their friends lists if they ever needed help in the future. As I added them to my already extensive list I realized that there are loads of people who I’ve only really played with a couple times (most were met in dungeons or fractals), and I didn’t really have any way to filter who was on my list for what reasons apart from setting nicknames (“Name Fractals” or “Name Dungeons” is a common sight on my friends list).

Would it be possible to add some type of ‘tagging’ system for PvE friends, WvW friends, PvP friends, Dungeons friends, Fractals friends, etc, or separate lists for acquaintances to the Friends panel?

P.S. Also ‘last date of activity’, so we can remove people who haven’t played in a year!

One of the things that has helped me survive in close quarters are the block skills the scepter and sword (offhand) offer. Both skills are great ways to foil most Veteran and Champion charge-up attacks (not to mention other player’s, if you want to check out PvP at some point), and they also both create illusions once you block.

On it’s own, scepter is more of a range-y weapon that can lay down some good condition damage (via Confusion) and every third auto-attack creates an illusion. I really like it, but then again I focus more on the condition/evasion side of combat and not so much close quarters (when using a scepter, anyways).

Pistol’s Phantasmal Duelist can do some serious damage, and Magic Bullet can often save your bacon by shutting down up to three mobs/people at a time. It’s a great off-hand weapon in my opinion, but seems to be a bit more on the ranged side of combat. Magic Bullet could give you a couple seconds of evasion while up close though.

I really like Sword/Sword and Sword/Torch for close combat. Both off-hand weapons offer evasions, but torch’s The Prestige might be one of the best evasion skills in the game. It cloaks you for that extra second you need to get out of harm’s way while simultaneously blinding people in it’s AoE when you use the skill, and then when you de-cloak you burn people in an AoE. Lots of utility. Phantasmal Mage (torch’s second skill) also grants you and your allies Retaliation which helps out a lot in close combat.

I would try Greatsword + Sword/Torch (or Scepter/Sword) and Staff + Sword/Torch (or Scepter/Sword) and see if either of those combinations work for you!

(Alternatively Scepter+Torch does a ton of Confusion damage, if you want to see what that’s like).

Sclerite Skins transferable?

Thanks! But are the weapon skins themselves account bound, or can I put them in my bank and use them with a different character?

Hi everyone,

I’m looking forward to possibly getting one of these skins, however the only level 80 character I have at the moment is my Ranger. If I get one of these Sclerite Skin claim ticket things with him can I either transfer the ticket to my bank and use it with my level 50 Guardian, or can I buy the Sclerite Shield with my Ranger and bank it to my Guardian?

Sorry if this is somewhat of a newbish question; I just wanted to make sure the skins/tickets don’t become character bound or anything when acquired.

We did the Ascalonian Catacombs dungeon for the first time last night with one necromancer and four rangers, it actually worked! I guess my point is that as long as everyone is really careful and knows what they need to do (not on a holy trinity basis, but on more of a team basis) and is perceptive of their surroundings they should be fine.

That said, I also heard having a Warrior or Guardian is very helpful. I would personally pick guardian because (correct me if I’m wrong) there are a couple other ranged classes which do just as good damage as a warrior. Guardians offer a couple very nice mass-healing skills.

Help/Tips on Rangers?

I use a Shortbow and Axe/Warhorn, usually stick with my Snow Leopard just because I don’t like to switch that often. Shortbow offer’s a lot of maneuverability in combat, and the axe/warhorn combo does better DPS at close range (more damage on a per hit basis and less travel time, horn has a good buff and DOT skill).

What I usually do is load up on signets with my support skills, all of which help my pet from dying most of the time — they are either making it grow in size and do more damage, making it invincible for a period of time, or granting regeneration to us both. Cant go wrong with Hounds of Balthazar as your Elite Skill, either. Hyena + the hounds can more often than not put even Minion Masters (Necromancers) to shame.

So far Rangers are my favorite profession, give yours another chance!
