Ascended ring YaY 5 more silver!

Well when you are lvl 40 and do all the dailies, they pile up rather fast. Even with RNG, people will experience this in a short amount of time. Not to mention non infused rings are useless items, unless you just want to optimize stats for WvW/PvE. Once you have 2 infused all other rings are vendor trash.

Ascended rings becoming vendor trash?

- Can’t upgrade them
- Can’t put them in the forge with 3 others
- Can’t salvage them
- Can’t trade them to people who need them.
- Can’t pick the stats you want.

What can you do with ascended rings?

- Give them to alts
- Sell them to merchant for 5 silver

I have half a bag full of kitteny stats rings and duplicates with nothing to do with them.

Can we at least get some salvaging or some forge recipes?

As far as my group has seen, most levels just increase the number of mobs you have to fight. Some of the boss damage regular attacks are increased. We avoid most of that by maxing out crowd control / range everything and heal a lot. Also portals+ thief perma invs helps skip the tough areas. As for jade transitions, we had people strip to 0 vit and have the thief max healing and initiative regen. We were able to keep up with agony damage with time warp, blast finisher+waterfield. (at 20 with 0 resistance) Hopefully we will be able to do the same thing at 50 when we get the thief set with 35 AR.

If you are going for 40+ its going to be rough because you can only get 30 AR maybe 35 with t3 fractal back. So if you reach 50 you are not going to live jade maw unless you get creative.

My team consists of 2 mesmers, 2 rangers and 1 thief. We drop as much pets/clones as possible, reflections, and alternate water fields with the thief blast finishers.

Running some tests at 20 with no AR we can out heal the majority of the agony on Jade maw. So we theorize it should be doable at 50, if you have full AR. 60 looks to be impossible atm.

drkn.3429,

As far as i have seen in 10-19. Only the final bosses of each path will have 1 agony attack. All of the regular paths are avoidable if you know what does agony. However, Jade Maw is not avoidable and does it every tenticale transition. Something like 10 seconds of 1 stack agony. You can probably look up what triggers agony on the path bosses.

Eventually, I would believe at much higher levels each attack will put on multiple stacks, more attacks will put agony on, and/or longer duration. And they might not be avoidable. If you go high enough, agony resistance will cap out and you are just left with your ability to heal and absorb agony damage. At this point I believe a minimalist hp approach will be necessary along with designated heal rotations. (waterfields/detonation, Guardian books, ect)

For those of you who haven’t hit lvl 10 fractals yet. Agony hits you like a ton of bricks. And some Agony is unavoidable. Note: Agony ticks for a percentage of your life, at lvl 10 it is 16% of your max hp and 8% with 5 Aresist.

I’ve been thinking about the best way to handle high lvl fractals and the increase in agony duration and possibly damage. Thinking back to GW1 and 55 monk and necro builds. The idea is that you want as low hp as possible with high healing. This will reduce the amount of damage agony does and you can thus heal through it easier using less resources.

Thus I believe the best stat combination for going deep into fractals would be:
Primary: Toughness, Healing
Secondary: Power, Precision, Condition damage, Crit Damage
Avoid: Vitality

Stacking primarily toughness, healing and secondary stat should give you the best agony survival. Note: that you can switch to this for boss fights and have a normal set for clearing trash.

Tried the thief, and so happy I did!

Ugh… This topic brain make hurt.

This is why thieves need balancing. Not because they are overpowered. Not because they can go invs for ridiculous amounts of time (+culling). But because large amounts of noobs, like (Sunreva.8714) that flock to this class to get large hit numbers and a few easy solo kills. But in reality do nothing in WvW.

The majority of thieves in WvW run when ever disadvantaged, and pick off one player then book it for a minute. This kind of fighting doesn’t help take keeps, nor does it push back a zerg. They cant even solo cap a supply camp. Basically, they do nothing but clean up the PvE people in WvW.

A-net needs to take the fix bat to the thieves, so players like me don’t get lumped in with the band wagon kiddies.

how to punish dagger storming thieves?

Dagger storm is the counter to mindless zerg swarms. And cannot be countered when used is such a situation.

To clear up some confusion. Retaliation does not phase a thief in dagger storm, they gain 3000+ hp a second. The closer you are to dagger storm the more daggers you are hit by. Daggers bounce 3 times, each hit crits for 2k. Haste doubles the damage of dagger storm. The Thief can tp out at any time during the dagger storm. The more people around the more damage it does to everyone. With about 10 people around it should do about 10-15k to everyone not including the reflected projectiles.

I don’t always dagger storm but when i do, I do it with no less than 3 other thieves at the same time.

Guilds transfer from Blackgate to Dragonbrand for WvW

Welcome to Dragonbrand.

DB has a great community and it makes WvW a lot of fun, even if we are losing. Our Queue times are short too!

I noticed BG having serious issues on Friday and Saturday. I got the feeling from BG that groups of people hated each other and refused to work together. Multiple times they attacked 2-3 different outer gates on BG garrison, at the same time! Then break in and wipe at different times. It was really sad. (this went on for 8 hours) Glad to see people got fed up with that kitten and looked for greener pastures.

Which profession has the most WvW Mobility?

I’ve been trying to get my thief up to speed with my warrior, I’ve just not been able to do it.

Perhaps shadowstep is bugged and only giving half the range listed, but even then I don’t think I could keep up.

What exactly are you doing that makes your thief faster than a warrior with the rotation I listed above?

P.S. I’m not looking at a chasing roll, I’m talking about getting in between points.

My full speed run rotation is as follows.

Skills: Signet of shadows of course, Shadow step, and Infiltrator’s signet. (you can spec certain traits to reduce recharge time and increase initiative regen.

Dodge (with swiftness trait)
Sword pistol(2) click something far down range and activate
Steal Click something far down range, activate
Shadow step (same)
Dodge roll
Weapon swap
Infiltrator arrow x2
weapon swap
dodge roll
(10 seconds have gone by)
Sword Pistol (2)
Infiltrator’s signet (targeted at something down range)
weapon swap
Dodge roll
Infiltrator arrow x2 (depending on initiative recharge)
weapon swap
(20 seconds have gone by)
Sword Pistol (2)
Steal (Target down range) (this is assuming you have points in trickery)

You can also use Withdraw by turning around and using it (I don’t get this fancy but it would increase your speed)

By now you should see the rotation, use cds to make up for lack of initiative. This is by far faster than any other class.

Note: You don’t want to hit anything with the teleport skills cause it will put you in combat. Target something just on the edge of view. Also note you can go up/over a lot of terrain with the tps and arrow. The best example of this is “wall running”. You can get high up along a wall with a lot of impassible running terrain, and then use your tps and infiltrator’s arrow to run along it. People have a real hard time chasing.

You should also see the instant gap closer i’m talking about. Sword (2), Shadow step, Infiltrator’s signet, and then steal. You can also toss the experimental teleportation gun in there for an extra 1500. But all classes can use that so I don’t really count it.

Which profession has the most WvW Mobility?

in WvW

Merrill.3540

Thieves have the most mobility, period.

There are major areas people are discussing, marathon chases, short distance chase, and close range combat.
Thieves are the best at all of these. If you think otherwise, the thief you are comparing to, is really bad.

Short duration chases. Did you know that! Thieves can instant teleport to max targetable range within about 1-2 second. And then return to the original spot anytime within 10 seconds. (somewhere round 4400 range if i did the math on the 4 skills right, and i’m not talking about infiltrator arrow)

Running the Marathon. This is the only area where another class may have a chance, but infiltrator arrow wins by a long shot (literally). If the thief is using their CDs properly no other classes can match their travel speed.

Close range combat. Haha, yea well this: 4 instant teleports, 3 dodge rolls, 25% base movement, infiltrator arrow, and this is leaving out invis because that is more survivability than mobility.

Notes: Only thieves can chase thieves. If you run from a thief you are going to have a bad time. Heartseeker spam, really? If you think heartseeker is good for mobility, that is the problem. You are comparing noob thieves to good other classes. It would be like comparing a 3 year old swimming to Micheal Phelps.

Race me any time, you will not have a good time.

Edit: If you caught a thief, grats. You got killed! Only time you catch a thief is when they want to get caught.

Jade Quarry - Super Nerd Rage Zerg GO!

in WvW

Posted by: Merrill.3540

Merrill.3540

So I play on Dragonbrand. And I am very impressed at the organization and response time of Jade Quarry.

There are a few events in particular that I really impressed me.

At about 8 pm pst on Saturday. We (Dragonbrand) rallied sizable rush on greenlake (In Crystal Desert BL). We dropped about 6 flame rams, and burnt the door down / tower lord in less than a min. Well JQ got really mad over that move. In less than 30 seconds after changing over the tower. There were about 3 Mesmer portals up, 200 people around the tower, and lots of siege being deployed. TS quote, “Man JQ is mad we took that tower, we unleashed the super nerd rage zerg.”

Another time (Monday 7pst) a small group of my guild capped Greenvale (supply camp below DB) so we could prevent JQ from supply reinforcing Dreaming Bay. Well we had just gotten our defense siege down when… I am sitting on the wall and see at least 300 JQ running up (I don’t know the exact numbers but it capped out my max character loading). I think my words on TS were “There are a few of them a… What the!. Incoming Fire, Fire, Fire the siege.” (Needles to say we didn’t last long)

And a number of different times we have gone after supply yaks and ended up with 20 or so JQ rushing us out of nowhere. (still got the yak, but ended up with a 1 silver repair bill)

JQ you guys make it fun to play WvW. Keep up the awesomeness.

Suggested change to "Outmanned Buff"

in WvW

I think what Merrill meant was that they cost less supply so the actual buying of the plans would be the same price

Exactly, I am not talking about merchant cost of the equipment, rather if a catapult takes 50 supply to build when the population is balanced. With the outmanned buff now it would take 25. Thus your server map population of 10 might be able to do something that as of now might take excessive supply running trips to do.

Basically, when you are outmanned you would have a better chance to take something over, rather than currently supply camp jumping or getting camped at spawn.

Suggested change to "Outmanned Buff"

in WvW

Merrill.3540

I propose three changes to the Outmanned Buff, that I think would help with a few problems being addressed about WvW.

First, when you have the buff it should make siege equipment cheaper to build or increase the effectiveness of supply (example your 1 supply does the job of 2). You are going to have less people, thus less resources to work with. This will allow sieges on towers possible with small guilds, and defense/attacks possible in off hours play.

Second, give multiple stages to the buff. Example: 2/1 20% less cost for siege equipment, 4/1 40% less cost for siege equipment, 8/1 60% less cost for siege equipment.

Third, Increase damage from siege weapons when buff is active. This is mainly so small groups of people can either defend key points or capture them vs overwhelming numbers. Say a group really wanted to hold DBay where the orb is located. This way they could have a chance to fight off the swarm of people. Or they might be able to capture a tower and keep it. Increasing the enjoyment on both sides, cause nobody likes to be camped or camp people at their spawn all day. (also no exp or gold is gained)

Note: Any values given are to illustrate the idea not for actual use.

Change the Orbs of Power

in WvW

Posted by: Merrill.3540

Merrill.3540

This really a simple fix, instead of giving stats or hp boosts. The orbs should just be another (+15) points to the WvW score.

Having +150 all stats and 15% hp over your enemies is just dumb. This is compounded greatly on glass cannon builds. Example: A glass cannon thief can go from maybe 2v1 to upwards of 10v1 with a +3 orb differential. Orbs adds too much passive survivablity.

Disappearing money after new build

After yesterdays midnight build, I logged off for the new build and then when I logged back in 1 gold was missing from my inventory. I do not have any buy orders up on the Trade house, I didn’t buy anything from a merchant, and i didn’t put it into my bank or mail it to anyone. Also the amount of time i was off is impossible for someone to log on and steal the money if my account was compromised (which it is not).

Note: another 1 gold was missing this morning after I logged in again.

This is very frustrating please look into this issue
