I’ve tried uninstalling and reinstalling the game, didn’t make a difference.
My guess is one of the latest patches changed something such that something’s no longer working as intended. I can play on my desktop, but not my laptop, so it’s definitely something to do with how the client interacts with our computers. Not a techy guy though so it’d be impossible to figure out what’s going wrong.
Seems like many people are also having this problem… Which makes me happy since if one person figures out the fix then it’ll likely help the others

Not sure how to post complete system specs, but I’ve played GW2 on medium-low settings for over 200 hours on this laptop prior to this sudden change.
Here’s some info though:

Same error as you, also tried the method suggested by the dev and it didn’t resolve the problem. Hope we get an updated address to this issue soon
Unable to 'Play' after logging onto launcher

Within the last week, I’ve been suddenly unable to play the game on my laptop. I am able to load the launcher, type in my login information, and click login — after which the ‘Play’ button turns red for me to click. When I click the red ‘Play’ button, the launcher closes… and that’s it. The program also disappears from the ‘Processes’ tab in my task manager.
Thanks in advance for any help or advice! I’m traveling for a bit with just my laptop, and I’d love to be able to explore the remainder of the awesome new content! Dat ship… by which I mean the boat from Lion’s Arch which somehow is able to traverse an entire continent and a half to the new zone :P
Warriors, mesmers, and guardians are always popular.
Though to be perfectly honest, if you find yourself in a group that says, “ONLY X CLASS!!!” then you’re better off finding another one. I have run scale 38 fractals at least a dozen times, and have never had ANY of my all-pug parties reject someone based on class. We have said that we would prefer to have a heavy-profession join if we had four light/mediums, but if an elementalist joins, I’ll toss out a, “Is this team composition fine for everyone?
” And everyone just says, “r.”
Someone who can play their class well is much better and more helpful to the team than an average player. And you should find the class that matches your playstyle the most. If you start doing things that aren’t fun for you, then playing will become like a chore.
The only exception to what I’ve said is probably CoF path 1. If your goal is to speed farm for very long periods of times, and as quickly as possible, then you may want to make a warrior/mesmer so that you can join like-minded groups. There are tons of CoF 1 farms with a mix of classes, but they will always be a minute or two slower than all warrior/mesmer groups. If that minute matters to you, then take the hours and hours to level a warrior/mesmer to 80, or the gold to power-level/gear them.
Rangers are pretty awesome in dungeons btw. Pet aggro/res/cc, healing fields, cripples and immobiles are pretty amazing.
