Huge Lag Spikes - Dallas1.level3

A-Net just flat out doesn’t care about proper routing for their game. No point in reporting things like this anymore. You have to help yourself.

It doesn’t work that way. Anet has no control over how the game connects to their servers from your end.

This is purely on NCSoft, isn’kitten

The best thing I can do is contact my ISP (Rogers) and see if they can route me differently. It seems Level3? are having issues. I honestly don’t know, I’m in Canada. For most games, I normally connect through Virginia or Atlanta with 30ms – 35ms.

I honestly doubt my ISP will do anything. Rogers, BELL, SHAW, all the same kitten. CRTC can suck on walnuts.

Something possessed me into coming back to GW2 – Logged back in two days ago to be greeted with insanely high spikes to Ping in-game (No other online game is affected) Traced the /ip to see that I’m receiving 75% packet loss to Dallas1.level3.net, whatever the hell that is.

Ontario, Canada – Never had these lag/latency issues before, what’s the deal?

Over 2000ms. The spikes have been occurring every 10 – 30 seconds.

I’ve been off and on GW2 since it’s initial launch, and I had been underwhelmed by It’s lack of End-Game and rather poor storytelling towards the middle and end of the Personal Story.

Things the game has done great, other it does poorly, and Living World content, being Living Story was by far the weakest. The characters, story, it was all very mediocre at best.

Being an MMO, naturally, stories mean very little. WoW didn’t become huge between 2005 – 2008 based off It’s story, which I’d say majority of people could care less for, and still do. Stories in MMO’s were usually left up to our Asian friends, be it Koreans or Japanese.

I always gave credit to Anet for trying something new, and somewhat succeeding at it, if someone better was at the helm for writing. I know very little about the Lore surrounding Guild Wars, but what I do know is pretty kitten epic in It’s own way, and It’s a shame that doesn’t translate well into the game… At least, at first it didn’t.

An example would be Warhammer, which has been around longer then I have, and It’s backstory is grand, and trying to tell that story in games is extremely difficult to achieve.

LS is what had me stop playing, I wanted more from GW2 – New areas, new races, new factions, new skills, new bosses, new dungeons, new/better world bosses, more challenging fights, more sPvP modes, CTF, more sPvP maps, more weapons and armour, more sets to obtain, better skins, better designed armour and weapons, better MEDIUM ARMOUR designs!

List goes on, and on… But LS was always the biggest issue for me. I thought it a waste of money, time and effort. Who cares about a story in an MMO – Give us more of everything we actually want.

Though with the addition of Season 2 I am noticing something different. The characters are becoming more interesting, the stories in which are being told are slightly better, Taimi is absolutely ADORABLE. I’m starting to think that stories can indeed be a big part of an MMO when done properly, and so far it’s beginning to interest me.

Having LS open up new areas, reshape existing ones, introduce new enemies, dragons, factions, new items, new things to obtain, and tell a better story is something I can absolutely get down with. I mean, it IS free content, and that in itself makes ArenaNet the most generous studio I know of, and this industry as of late, generosity is something EXTREMELY RARE.

That generosity has put ArenaNet in my personal favourite development studios, right up there with the legendary Kojima Productions. That there says a lot.

TL;DR – Whoever you got in charge for LS content is doing a good job.

Will We Ever Get an Expansion Pack?

Midnattsol.4503

Personally? I love the Buy-to-Play business model Anet has with Guild Wars 2. It’s a lot more accessible to people, where as F2P usually tends to have poor quality, basic combat and MMO elements that are dated, not to mention the enormous cash shop and restrictions.

Even though this is very generous, what Anet offers with this business model.. Can it deliver us a true Expansion Pack? Living World, I’m sorry Anet, It’s just not interesting IMO. It adds nothing but a lackluster story and a day or two worth of content before it’s boring.

Wouldn’t you rather tell us that you are working to give us more of what we (majority of us) want, that is a better Endgame, more dungeons, more bosses, more areas? Expand the map, give us more dynamic events, improve existing bosses, make things more challenging, more rewarding.

More weapons, more armour, more skins, more armour sets, more world bosses, PERMANENT CONTENT.

I can only speak for myself in saying that LS is a waste. It’s good in a way that it delivers more in a short period of time, but nothing is ever permanent. This game is dying for new, perm content that adds what an MMO needs.

Get better, more design for wepons and armour. Challenging bosses, dungeons, more rewards.. More areas to explore. GW2 needs more. Sounds selfish, but this is what I believe GW2 needs.

More, more, more, and more permanent content.

I’d prefer GW2 went for a subscription Fee.

The game has nothing going for it except Living World that is good for a day or two. It’s just not interesting. This game needs a proper fully fledged Expansion pack with more Dungeons, Areas, Loot, Weapons/Armour, new sets, more skins, less trench-coat designs, more skills, more bosses, better world bosses, more dynamic events, better existing world bosses, and a lot more challenging fights.

The Gem store won’t give us these things. Expect a true Expansion to come out for this game likely late next year. The game is almost dead as it is… We need a sub fee to get more.

We’ve got thick skins, but I certainly appreciate constructive feedback. It’s also much more likely to receive a response both in the forums and in the game. So, as always, make good suggestions in a positive way and you’ll see changes. Cheers!

This is usually how it works, and why is it people don’t understand this is way beyond me.

You’ve got more spoiled brats to deal with in here then the PvP and PvE teams have to deal with.

PvE complains about Living Story, they want more permanent content. Open more areas, more world bosses that are actually challenging to fight, and more armour sets and weapon skins.

PvP mostly wants more balancing, more maps and more modes. Mostly those three.

WvW just seems to kitten and complain about every little thing. I don’t know how it is you are able to deal with it. If I were you? I’d probably have lost my job due to me lashing out at everyone who demands huge changes and improvements with the snap of a finger.

Failure. Who are you to insult thousands of WvW players? What do you know about the WvW player experience? Do you know where to find the constructive threads on the forum players have been making for a year?

“…everyone who demands huge changes and improvements with the snap of a finger.” Yes, I [and others] demand changes and improvements. We have waited patiently for a year. Meanwhile, we will vote with our feet [that means I won’t log in]. Think about that before you start a reply insulting your peers.

Okay, and? Why don’t you go work for ArenaNet, if you think you can do better?

The one thing I do hate that a lot of developers seem to do is keep the community left in the dark about almost everything. But aside from that it seems you missed the point.

If you get off your high horse and actually suggest, or give positive feedback? Perhaps they’ll be more inclined to tell you what’s going on.

Though I don’t know, I can’t read Devon’s mind, and I also don’t have a ton of hours into WvW either. Following a 100+ Zerg, to me is very boring after you do it a dozen times.

I love this game, but I don’t feel like there are enough activities to keep me involved long term. I play an MMO because I want a long term activity. I realize you’re not making the decisions there, but it’s tiring seeing another round of achievements to chase instead of something to actually explore.

I want to spend money on this game, I want to support your team, and I want to play the game. But I’m not spending any more money on it until I see something of substance. I’d buy an expansion, for a reasonable price, just so I could have new things to dig my characters’ teeth into.

That last paragraph is exactly how I feel. I WANT to support ArenaNet, and Guild Wars 2. I, however do NOT want to support NCSoft and their other games like WildStar, and therefore I do not buy Gems.

I want to buy an Expansion Pack that offers a ton of permanent content, and also improves existing content. I wanna see more areas, more things to do and explore, more dungeons to run, more dynamic events that are actually dynamic, and more dragons and world bosses that do more then just stand in one spot the entire fight. I also wanna see more karma rewards, more weapons that are actually designed well, and more armour sets and especially more armour variety.

There is a lot of “I want” but isn’t what majority of us want?

Living Story or traditional content?

in Living World

Midnattsol.4503

Having teams improve the existing content is great, and getting free content is also nice. But the fact that 99% of this content is temporary, you feel like you NEED to play that content, rather then at your own pace. Most of those that play have full-time jobs, families, and go to collage/uni. I’m pretty sure that these people can’t keep up with all this temporary content.

If most of this are exactly what Wintersday/Halloween is? That is acceptable. Having festivals and events that come each year that offer new and exciting things is always great. It just feels like they are too focused on this Living Story stuff rather then opening up areas like Ring of Fire, Crystal Desert, Far Shiverpeaks, etc..

And I know that these take time to develop and design. Guess what? That’s where expansions come in, and this is where we are more then happy to wait and pay for it when it;s ready.

A balance of both, but more so Expansion Packs that we can actually pay for.

I’m not to keen on this temporary content. It’s generous, sure, and It’s also free. It’s also very overwhelming. I’m not too sure how all this Living Story, temporary 2 week content of the same stuff can also introduce more areas to explore, more dungeons, more fractals, more world bosses and dragons that are actually fun and challenging to fight, and more karma rewards with better armour/weapon design and variety.

Living World is simply a bonus, and I appreciate the generosity. I would also like to see more grander, permanent content and if we have to pay $20 – $30 for it? So be it.

Farm Control.. ARE U SERIOUS

Midnattsol.4503

Anet is quite against us farming, yet what exactly are we doing to get our Legendaries? Farming, and It’s a long, agonizing farm. What kitten es me off the most is how lucky people can get with the mount of Exotics that drop, and that are worth more then simply 1 gold.

Oh look, that guy tried out the Forge a total of three times, and guess what? DUSK! …You try out the Forge a total of 100 times and guess what! NO DUSK!

Same with the Black Lion Chests. Oh look, that guy got a ticket on his 2nd chest! …You try it and 20 keys later, NO TICKET!

Hell, some people try 60 times and no ticket, or even 100, or even 250 times and still no kitten ticket. Oh, but then someone else you know got it on his 5th chest.

If the money that goes towards Gems actually made it’s way to Anet? I’d buy Gems to support, and even buy a few keys and skins and that kitten Flute that I want so badly. The fact that it goes all to NCSoft has me NOT wanting to buy Gems more then the stupid gamble on Black Lion Chests.

And yes, farming is a CHOICE that should be left up to us, and I’m not talking about stupid CoF p1 farming like a bunch of idiots, leaving the other dungeons barren wastelands. If we choose to farm certain areas that are noted for dropping the mats we need? Let us do so. You wanna put DR on it? Fine, but don’t punish us for farming.

Am I the only one whos dissapointed?

To be fair, if CoF1 rewarded say, 25 silver, we’d consider the 1g reward a god send. Giving it 1g implies that it’s as difficult as the other dungeons, which is utter lunacy.
As far as the rest go, Anet can very easily make a poll on what the rewards should be, just ignore the “3g for every path” submissions and go with the average.
Bam, dungeon rewards fixed.
I’d go something like,
AC – 1g p1, p3 – 1.5g p2
CM – 1.5g every path (It has been a while, but I pugged this fairly easily and quickly.)
TA – 1g Up, F/F – 1.5g F/U (I can’t even complete this path with a PuG, if they can pull it off they deserve 1.5g)
SE – 1g p1, p3 – 2g p2
HotW – 1.5g p1 – 2g p2, p3
CoF – 25 silver p1 – 1.5g p2 – 2g p3
CoE – 1.5g every path
Arah – can’t say I’ve done Arah, but I think people would agree that 3g reward should be reserved for this. Path 2 is the easy one yeah? 2g for that one? I dunno guys xD

Gold Reward: Full reward on first run, alts give 50% gold reward, repeating any path with a character yields no gold reward.
Return the token reward to its former glory.

This makes more sense.

CoF p1 is the easiest dungeon path in the game, and also the most boring. Having a 1g reward for this path, and having CoE, TA and HotW the same reward is madness, this is madness!

Arah should have the highest reward cause It’s the longest and more difficult dungeon to run, while CoE, SE, TA, HotW should have a higher reward than CoF p1.

I’d just be repeating what you said, but this honestly does make more sense, and would make a lot of people really happy. Hell, if we get technical? FotM should offer the highest of the rewards as it scales in difficulty, where as the dungeons stay exactly the same, and get more and more boring with each run.

Why? cause they never change, and always stay the same. Only reason people are now doing the other dungeons are cause of this new reward system, and even that is flawed, at the moment.

Colin said a few days ago that QJ will be the last of the ‘festival’ content. The last piece they make with the idea of being able to bring it back every year. That being said, the upcoming content coming in the Fall should be much more robust.

Hopefully so. Anet is a fantastic team, a role-model in the industry. Whether It’s a master scheme, or they just generally care for us and by doing so they give us free content.

I haven’t loved an MMO like this in almost 6 years, and missed out on GW1 because I never actually heard of it until 2010.

I really would hate for them to just focus on this temporary content until they realize that what people really want are more areas to explore, more dungeons, more fractals, more weapons/armour and better designs and variety, and more/better dynamic events and dragons/challenging world bosses.

May seem like It’s all about more, more and more, and it kinda is. You’ve got so many areas that we aren’t able to explore, Elder Dragons to have amazing, epic encounters with that aren’t complete bore-fests like Zhaitan, and world bosses that do more then just stay in one spot for 2 – 10 minutes and you do nothing but spam a single attack, while standing in the same spot.

Midnattsol.4503

I had a discussion about Living Story with some Guld mates, and my concerns about GW2 becoming a wasteland when people start running to other MMO’s and Anet has to merge servers to keep population high so It’s not like you are the only player in a massive gaming world.

I see these weekly updates as very generous offers from a well established development team that does something very few teams do – Giving us free content, and very often.

The problem I see is that all this free content is TEMPORARY.

I’m sure what people want to hear from Anet are things like… “We’ve also got teams working on larger updates, giving you more PERMAMENT AREAS to explore, more PERMANENT Dungeons, more armour sets with actual VARIETY, more weapons and better designs, more dragons, more CHALLENGING World Bosses, and improved Dynamic Events that are actually DYNAMIC”

The problem I see is that Anet is trying to please too many people, and the people they are trying to please are more of the casual kind. No one really wants anything that is actually challenging these days, or requires some thinking. A lot of the events and bosses I come across I always think of ways how these could be improved, and be a lot more challenging and interesting to fight.

As it stands now a lot of the world bosses and dynamic events are either too easy, end too fast, or just too kitten boring. -And I’m not suggesting they add 40-Man Raid Dungeons that take 4 hours to complete, but simply look back at what they promised and improve on it, which they have been doing… somewhat.

I’m scared that Anet are just trying to do too much to keep casual players interested.

And since they get little to no funding from NCSoft, and majority of the Gem sales go to NCSoft for WildStar and other projects, how can Anet afford to do what they are doing now without releasing Expansion Packs, giving us huge tons of permanent content?

One thing that intrigues me the most with GW2 are the portrayal of Dragons being these massive, overwhelming beings that are practically unstoppable. Why doesn’t Anet play more into this?

The Elder Dragons should be mentioned more, or at least content hinting to fighting them, or anything. I find Primordus the most interesting and just fighting the lieutenants that are hardly a challenge (extremely boring to fight) is becoming a chore.

If they were given flying paths, or having them move from location to location instead of just standing in one spot the entire battle (Minus Claw) then maybe having to wait for more dragon additions to the game would be okay.

I don’t know much about the lore behind Guild Wars, and Warhammer has always been the only universe I took heavy interest in reading about. From what I’ve read up on Guild Wars, little as is it.. very, very interesting. Sometimes quite deep and heavy with atmosphere.

One thing I’d like to see from the Gauntlet is keeping it permanent with new bosses added to fight on a somewhat daily basis, or have friendly duels from player to player. Since we can’t just openly start a duel with anyone unless we go into sPvP, it kinda sucks having to go through that hassle.

Plus having spectators watch above is really cool. Anything to stop this content from being yet another temporary addition, the better.

If you say get a precursor that sells for 500+g (spark at 520g now) why would you undercut sellers. Sure most of the precursors will sell but youre missing out on a lot of profit. I was recently looking at the spark because i want to make my legendary and i jsut saw people missing out by undercutting almost 25g. Why would someone do this.

Why? It’s simple, really. GW2 is not farming friendly, and it punishes us for farming, honest farming. Prices on some Pre’s are outrageously high, and even more so since it’s almost impossible to farm in this game without Anet using the infamous Nerf gun to cripple our efforts.

I’m not saying that pre’s should be 100g, or even 200g, but having them 500+ is a bit too far.

Especially since the journey to getting a Legendary is already one long, agonizing journey with the amount of hardcore RNG+DR, getting those mats would take forever.

I’m not sure if people who have 2+ Legendaries simply got super lucky at the Forge, or chests? Or they actually spent $500+ to convert to gold and just buy out everything needed.

I currently have no plans to limit players interaction with the world of Tyria in anyway. I believe it would be damaging to the economy, to the game experience and to the players overall..

We are already limited in the other interactions you mentioned. Some simple examples:

  • one jumping puzzle reward per day per character
  • one world boss chest reward per day per account
  • diminishing returns on dungeon tokens after the first run on each path per day
  • diminishing returns on farming mobs (mystery algorithm used here for security)

I’m not disagreeing with you on your response — just highlighting that we are already subject to restriction in the game to limit wealth that enters the economy.

The TP really doesn’t inject wealth, rather it removes it. So lack of restriction makes complete sense.

This ^

This is one of the most limited games to play… after an hour or an hour and a half you already have nothing else to do online cause most of the activities have already been hit by one diminishing return or the other.

I can see how limiting the amount of rewards for world events would make sense. You can still do the event, just won’t be rewarded for it. Though look at how EASY most of these world events are? The Dragons are a complete joke, and aren’t very challenging once a big enough group comes in. -And don’t even get me started on SB, Wurm, and Fire Ele. They are all so kitten easy. This isn’t what kitten es with off when it comes to no rewards.

Farming is a big par of MMO’s, yeah? Some are a bit harder then others, some are more forgiving. GW2 is in It’s own world when it comes to letting us farm. I can see how limiting a player to farm in a single location is a good thing, and when it comes into effect you just Waypoint to another location.

Though where are the best farming locations? Cursed Shores. What has been nerfed the most? Cursed Shores.

Anet seems more interested in having us find the best means to farm, and then they just ULTRA-NUKE it and the nerf cripples our income. What confuses me is that this isn’t due to Anet wanting us to buy Gems and convert to Gold. In order to get at least 100g would cost a hell of a lot more then just $50 or even $100. Perhaps more then $200, or even $300.

GW2 lacks in variety with Medium Armour more then the other two types. Medium is 90% trench-coat mafia, and it sucks.

Light is quite possibly the best, especially with female characters. Heavy is great for both genders. Medium is a bit more friendly with females when it comes to Cultural, but hurts equally with the horrible trench-coat designs.

For my Thief I was happily to buy Gems for the Magitech set, and used the leggins to replace the Tier 3 Human Cultural, and it looks great with the Tier 3 top. Though how long until I get bored of seeing that, I wonder…

Being able to trade in a certain amount for something you need would probably be something welcomed to those who have their bank space full of rings and such.

Aside from that would be Ascended Armour, and I don’t mean 10+ that look exactly the same, but with different stats for each armour type. Face it, this is an MMO – People do like to look somewhat different from the majority, and seeing as how this game is quite balanced? Looks seem to be more important then uber-insane stats.

An example of what I mean: Heavy Armour = 3 – 5 unique sets that look different from each other, but could share the same stats, or how current Ascended items are when it comes to stats. This then follows with Medium Armour having 3 – 5 and Light having 3 – 5 (Or any number you wish to do. Variety is key, and that’ll be coming up later in this post)

Legendary Armour will, of course be in the same context as Legendary Weapons. As long as the 1 set per each armour type and category looks “Legendary” I’m sure most will be pleased to work towards what they want.

Now comes to Weapon/Armour skins. Be it in game updates, Gem Store, or simply adding more armour sets to purchase with Karma/Tokens. GW2 desperately needs more skins, and especially more creative work when it comes to Daggers, Pistols, Hammers, and of course… Medium Armour.

Out of all these I’m sure most would agree that Medium Armour hurts when she comes to looks and variety. It’s mostly riddled with Trench coat designs, as if were all part of the Mafia. This armour type could really use some more extra love when it comes to looks.

Being an MMO it sure can get tiring seeing all those Thieves/Rangers wearing the same type of armour as you, more so when it comes to Tier 3 Cultural Armour, especially Human. It also goes the same to Light armour and heavy, and all professions!. I hope I’m not just speaking for myself when I say that most of us want our characters to look somewhat unique, or slightly different from those of the same class/profession.

Be it this post drowns in the constant spams of suggestion threads, and hopefully this will get some attention to avoid that. Would also love some word from Anet regarding anything mentioned in this topic.

And as always – Keep up the great work and support.

How come all armor generally looks the same?

So far GW2 lacks variety in weapons and armour, and Medium suffers the most. Why does Medium suffer the most? It’s almost FULL of trenchcoat mafia looks and pirate get-ups. Light armour could also use a little more love, as does Heavy. Medium just has two major designs, and It’s getting rather dull.

Perhaps adding more Armour skins for purchase could help? Adding merchants with several armour sets to buy with karma? Or more lore oriented pieces? Perhaps bring back fan favourites from GW1?

Weapons also need A LOT MORE love. Daggers, Pistols, Axes and Hammers suffer hugely in the variety and design aspect. Lots tend to look the same with a different name. Or a slight change in certain areas, or just look plain and dull.

Once you hit level 80 it becomes a ‘Who looks more sexy, kitten, and awesome then anyone else’ or wanting your character to stand out from others. I got to tell yah… It’s getting lame seeing so many Thieves and Rangers that are human wearing Cultural Tier 3. Each profession should have several different sets to their own when it comes to cultural.

Would you support GvG Arenas/ranking system?

Fully support this.

sPvP feels like some kind of introduction before taking on WvW where zerging tactics result in the winner. Guild Wars 2 should be more about, well, guild wars. I can think of many in the top list of Guilds, including mine in FA that would absolutely love something like this. Be it Guilds within the same server, or cross servers. GvG should have been in the game from Day 1.

The PvE aspect of GW2 is great, no question. But from a game titled Guild Wars from a Developer studio known as ArenaNet… You kinda expect there to be heavy involvement with Guilds waging wars with other Guilds in Arena sized battlefields, or larger maps.

Town Clothing is a waste is some ways. To look cute, or something is one thing, and I imagine the earmuffs and bunny ears sell well. People don’t seem to care about that stuff to go really crazy on it, however.

I suppose an addition every now and then is fine, but what Anet really needs to start putting in that Gem Store is, well… Armour and Weapon skins.

Those Black Lion keys could also do with a price drop. They’ll sell like hotcakes in a larger bundle at a good price. People have more then a dozen of those chests collecting up space. Me in particular.

Claw of Jormag Sound Bug = Crash?

This seems to only happen when fighting Claw, and when there appears to be a lot of people (Which there always is) About close to the end this weird noise, comes out of nowhere, and all game sounds are muted. About a few seconds, or few minutes the game freezes/crashes and have to start up again.

It’s happened once with Shatterer, and possibly once with Teq, but always with Claw.

I’ve confirmed this with other players, mostly friends that they also have had this issue, or still do, but not as frequent as I have it. At first I thought it was some sort of strain? I know MMO’s tend to be CPU-Oriented, and I’d like to think my i5-2500k is MORE then enough, and so is my 6970.

During any major event, especially the dragons the frames take a massive beating (15 – 20fps) with everything High, no AA at 1080p. I thought that maybe that would cause’ this sound bug leading to crash… Now I’m not so sure.

Also… Is that an actual issue with the events? This horrible fps issue on good gaming rig’s is still very disappointing. Not sure if it has to do with all the amount of people on screen, or the events themselves.

-Armor/Weapon Skins

Guild Wars 2 is possibly one of the very few games I want to keep supporting, and I want to buy Gems for Armour and Weapon skins, and for some reason Anet doesn’t seem all that interested in updating the store with more cosmetic items people desperately want.

It’s getting tiring looking at the same weapons and armour for months now. Really hoping that they take notice of this and flood that store with great looking armour/weapon skins. They have no idea how that will benefit them, and us at the same time (Of course keep the Gem price of these items reasonable…)
