One cannot compare GW2’s lack of end-game content against subscription-based MMOs. Gem cash store aside, GW2’s business managers have no compelling reason to keep players around beyond the initial sale. Hence, the de-emphasis of end-game content.

One does not play GW2 vs. other MMOs because of the end-game.

If you want a steady stream of end-game content, you’re better off with WoW or another subscription-based MMO.

Follow the money. A significant % of the revenue for this game comes up-front. Hence, A-Net has very little incentive to keep people around past level 80. Rather, they need to bring in as many new players as possible.

Yes, there is the gem bank, but I don’t know how much $ people spend on that.

40 here. Been playing MMOs since MUDs.

I started playing the game yesterday. I created my 1st character and played him just fine yesterday and today. However, whenever I try to create a new character, the screen turns black, with the GW2 mouse cursor and music. But, it never goes beyond the black screen.

I tried the ‘guest’ trick with 5 different worlds, but none of them worked. I had to kill the game and re-start it every time.

I finally gave up and logged in with my original character.
