"Challenging" content in open world concern

Oh I agree man. I don’t need raids. But this is an MMO. And there should be some elements that keep people playing. Raids keep those who enjoy them playing because they are (A.) Challenging. (B.) Rewarding(with actual rewards as well as victory) and most importantly (C.) require group coordination, planning and communication. This in turn bonds those who are raiding together. Basically, making these encounters fun.

There’s no gear treadmill in GW2. I’m always torn on this. I think it’s a great move and then I think it’s what is holding the game back. Never the less, they’ve done things their way, removing the treadmill and the so called “trinity.” Gratz. But this needs to be replaced with something that’s as rewarding, challenging, and makes you want more.

I realize that many here are against raiding but truth is, the lack of it is what’s holding this game back. And, the developers are fighting that all the way to the games grave.

I dont think it is holding the game back. There has been plenty of released research and statements by MMO companies who have abandoned raids because the vast majority of players simply don’t play them.

I personally don’t believe GW2 as it is right now, is missing out not having them.

yea I dunno. Research or not…GW2 is not the top MMO right now and without any research myself, I would take a jump and say it is not in the top 3 as far as players playing the game. And I’m betting the top 3 mmo’s do infact have raiding. So…

As far as GW2 avoiding raiding…..I would love to have something new and exciting but what brings masses to mmos? And what keeps them playing? Is it the endgame? The immersion? The rewards? Sandbox elements? Pvp? Or is it a great harmony between all?

I think immersion pulls people in. Character progression keeps them pushing through to level cap. And Endgame, Sandbox, PvP and Rewards keep them playing long after.

Problem where I stand is Gw2 doesn’t have much end game and alot of pvp variety at the moment. Gw2 also doesn’t really have any worthwhile rewards to speak of. I was essentially maxed geared just acouple days after hitting level cap(forgetting Legionaries of course.) Then what? There’s not really any true open world pvp, so no way to create any sandbox chaos. There’s no challenging group content. And, the pvp just got old.

That being said. I’m a supporter of GW2. I just wish ANet would figure out this equation in their own way and in a way that makes sense with their game. There’s alot of talk of progression for HoT, but all I really see is more questing.

We’ll have to see how it plays out, but curious to see if everyone just plays there specialization which may really limit the diversity of play from all the classes, when even compared to now.

Please add some sort of end game

We don’t necessarily need raids but adding some real end game content for max level players is what this game desperately needs.

And, we don’t necessarily need gear drops from end game either but adding a good amount of collectibles, pets, skins etc for both the leveling and end game would also be much appreciated.

Adding endgame that makes groups of players implement strategy and coordination to overcome difficulty is what this game needs badly. And after you are able to down a super difficult boss or whatnot, having the chance to loot a special or rare reward is a plus. Players want to be unique. And they don’t mind working to get that rare skin or item. Please don’t mistake grind for dedication.

I understand this is not your normal mmo. It’s obviously aimed more for casual players. But adding end game content and more relevant and difficult world bosses across gives max level players something to play for. Currently, there just isn’t anything to do really. And what’s there, doesn’t reward you with anything everyone else doesn’t already have.

Please have a serious look at end game. Give us something to play for.

Which processor - video card combo to get?

All I can say is don’t upgrade specifically for this game. Because the results may disturb you. If you’re upgrading for design, video editing, or other games…go for it.

People are posting here because they are hoping to god that the voices break through. There’s no point in designing new lands, bosses and gear if when you spin your camera around your fps drops 40 frames!

It’s just so very frustrating because the game has so much potential but it doesn’t have a chance to even reach that potential because it’s pretty much unplayable. I just can’t a play a game that dips to 20fps in the major city. If I was on the 1st dell i booted up wow in, i wouldn’t have a problem but when you build a super computer you expect super results and to end up getting really bad results is enraging. And, that’s the tone that’s being set here. and rightfully so.

Fix it.

This is just plain sad. When the answer is that your i7 3930k super-mega-awesome processor is bottlenecking, thus reducing your fps to what most would consider unplayable (45fps), it’s a sad sad state of affairs for guild wars 2. The game is more than horribly optimized, and this thread is the very somber, god aweful proof.

I have a similar build, i7 3930k, water cooled & oc’d, gtx 680, 64gb of ram, running on solid state drives and yes, this game still under performs. sure, I get respectable fps out in the middle of no where, but bring me in to lion’s arch and the game is laggy, jerky and the fps or just embarressing.

I upgraded for the same reasons. I’m a graphics artist and video editor and boy does this build get the job done. And when I break out planetside 2 and am in the middle of a massive 500 man battle…boy does this build get the job done. But open up gw2 and head to lion’s arch or god forbid, wvwvw, and man..just embarrassing. Arenanet should be embarrassed and ashamed. A enthusiast super build should be able to run this game…and it doesn’t.

I don’t want to come off as bashing. I want to play this game. But just can’t until this gets resolved. I know I’ve got company from all the threads about this. I just want something to be done about it.

I get all of what is being said in response by everyone in this thread as to why this game is getting such low fps on high end machines, specifically ones that run amd and multi core processors. The logic makes sense and I understand it clearly but it doesn’t make me fell any better. It is hard for me to really understand though how a machine like mine cannot efficiently run this game. In the sense of how did Anet drop the ball like this?

I have a Nvidia GTX 690, which costs about as much as a good computer by itself. Everything on my system is of high quality and runs everything I throw at it spectacularly. Everything but gw2. It’s like an itch I can’t scratch. And it’s really bothering me. I have an amd 8150 processor, which honestly, runs strong like a bull. But not when it comes to guild wars 2. I might as well be running the game on my wife’s thinkpad.

It really blows my mind. Not that I don’t understand that the game wasn’t designed for multi cores (even though that sucks terribly.) But, the fact that I have a $1k gfx card which is utterly useless in this game. Wth? Why else would I buy a high end gfx card? They’re usually bought to process high end graphics in games…But Anet coded their game to change that? This is where i’m confused the most.

Keep in mind, I’m running planetside 2 at 60-140 fps always. And that can be in battles with hundreds of people, tanks, aircrafts and vehicles. Every game I run on machine has elite performance..So it really throws me for a loop why gw2 runs so kitten bad.

Couldn’t agree more with OP. Personally, I followed this game for years and was really looking forward to playing it and was severely disapointed with the performance. So much so that I stopped played. My machine is high end. However it’s an amd processor, and even though I have the very best of AMD processors, 32gb ram, a Nvidia GTX690, Asus Crosshair V Motherboard, Solid State Drives and a great psu with enough power to revive a heart attack patient, it’s still not enough to run this game on decent fps, sometimes even in lowly populated areas. Camera pans cause severe lag even.

I usually get 18-45fps. I’m a gaming snob, which is the reason I built my gaming rig. So, playing a game that touches below 20fps on a somewhat often occurrence is simply unplayable for me. This is just unacceptable and until I hear more about some recognition of this problem and a plan to fix it, I have moved on and cannot recommend this game to anyone without the best of Intel processors. Sad…and Bad..

Not understanding why FPS are so low in GW2

Didn’t see your comment about optimization ilithis. Thanks for chiming in. I need this game to run better. This was supposed to be the game to end my boredom in wow. And everything about gw2 is amazing but something needs to happen here because as I said, I should be able to get better performance here without burning out my cpu.

Both GPU and CPU usage is floating around 40%. I did disable SLI and turned down some options within gw2. I went and made all the recommended Nividia gpu changes per the anet thread. None of that did much. However, I then overclocked my cpu a great deal from 4.2 ghz to 5.4 ghz and that made a world of difference. So to my dismay, I believe your are right. GW2 is not utilizing my 8 cores correctly and pulling primarily off of 1 I suppose although I haven’t done any benchmarks yet, I thinking that’s it. After overclocking, I got around 50-60 fps.

Now of course, I have a new problem of the game crashing every now and then. I researched the crash error message and there are threads that point to the cause being overclocking which makes sense.

If it wasn’t for all of these problems I would have been a die hard gw2 player by now. It’s just a bit frustrating. Overall, I went with Amd because despite being behind intel, I support their business model and tech of multi cores, good power, less $. But it’s unfortunate that the one game that decision bites me in the butt in happens to be the one game i’m most eager to play. Again, frustrated. Thanks Solar for your help here. If you have any other input, bring it on. It’s been most helpful for me and hopefully others. I’m hoping gw2 will patch in some sort of optimization that could fix these issues. Do you think that is part of the problem?

I understand that Gw2 may not properly use cores and assume that is why the fx 8150 may not be good enough. Although I must admit, i find that a bit odd seeing though the 8150 is the best of the new amd processors.

But what I"m confused about is, every other mmo I play and also games like planetside 2 which are extremely demanding due to the massive player battles, all run at 60fps or more. And, I’m to understand that gw2 demands more from your gaming rig than every other mmo and other pc games of the like? So to run this game properly, I’m required to invest another $1,000+ into my rig to jump from amd to intel, change ram, motherboard…etc. And this is what’s required to effectively play this game? The absolute best of the best gaming rig? The top of the line graphics card on the market(or top 2) and the best amd processor with 32gb or ram, ssd, windows 7, 1200w corsair psu, is not enough to get good fps for guild wars 2 when it does for every other game on the market?

I really appreciate your help solar, and I’m not trying to be an jerk over here…I’m just alittle frustrated is all. What I have should definitely, without a doubt, be enough to run this game at 60fps. Now, should and does are 2 different things apparently. And I suppose following this game for many years only to be severely disappointed with the fact that my $3,000+ rig cannot run the game effectively completely blows my mind. And I’ve never set foot in wvwvw. I can’t get past the fact that i get horrible fps during questing. For me, it ruins the game. If anyone has any other help, please jump in. I do not have the best of the best systems…but it’s kitten good, and much better than most..so i need a better answer than switch to intel.

I have a very high end system and run very demanding games at about 60-120 fps (Starcraft, Planetside2, Wow, Diablo3..etc.) I run every game I play on the highest of settings and get on average about 100fps. But I can’t figure out why I am getting such low fps in this game? I really want to play this game. I followed it for years. But 20fps for me, is just unplayable. I’ve read countless numbers of threads on this and have seen no real answers to this problem. Most people are either pulling the bottleneck card or saying that gw2 is poorly optimized.

Is this something that the game is addressing currently and will patch in later? Or am I missing something here?

I’m running a custom built high end rig, with a fx 8150 processer, gtx690 gpu, solid state drives, custom water cooling, and basically all high end components. I’m seeing 100 fps in a 1000 man battle in planetside 2 so it nearly brings me to tears when I enter the sylvari starter zone after creating a new character and only see about 20fps.

Any answer for this? Any reason? Any Help?
