Warrior must have been epic

So let me get this correct please cause i have a feeling i may be confused. Warrior was so op, this class was so strong, this mighty class was so epic, that they had to nerf its adrenaline when everything (dmg/regen/burst skills) is tied to it?

Also this mighty class had all elite skills so epic, so strong, so monumental that they had to nerf the one which was 99% warriors using so that it reaches epicness of the other elite skills? Ok then i guess i have no more questions then.

Exactly. Enjoy your “warrior”.

On the plus side, at least we’re not “Gods Walking Among Mere Mortals” now. That title now goes to thieves/anything with stealth.

As a S/D thief I have to respectfully disagree… well, looking at the bright side, we can sit on the nerf bar and have a beer, first one’s on me

I’ll just join the cheese side and roll P/D now (which I’m sure will just get nerfed soon enough…)

nah, ANET loves condies too much

I’m suspecting that what they really like is passive playing… nowadays a mesmer can equip staff/scepter clone the * out of himself and just kite = win… buff to guard’s spirit weapons? torment mesmer? nerf to S/D?
Maybe next patch will add the “auto-fight” option so you won’t even need to move, AI does it for you! FUN!

I was optimistic, even considered this a buff… but the patch hit… I really can’t understand the logic behind this, S/D was just fine as it was, I had my chance against tanky warriors, medi guards, and other builds I never dreamed of beating as D/D, D/P. Oh well… I’ll just join the cheese side and roll P/D now (which I’m sure will just get nerfed soon enough…)

One of my friends plays with a D/D Ele, and man he’s impossible, high survivability, hits like a truck, yes, even after all the nerfs you’ve gotten recently, point is, elementalists (at least dd ones) do have their ways to survive and deal high damage, but the skill ceiling is sky-high, besides him I have seen really few D/D eles that represent a menace (playing as guardian/thief), as for stealth, you have to deal with it the way every other profession has to, this guy I’m talking about EAT thieves, its not even funny.

Hi there, I remember having your exact same issue when I started playing, unfortunately I never, not once, found a gw2lfg group willing to guide me, even avoiding the “experienced only” posts. Lucklily I made some good friends playing, we mastered every dungeon we though impossible at first (we had nightmares with Coe’s alpha, now we cant understand what made it so difficult in the first place), the thing is, playing with people of your same skill level is so much fun, you dont feel obliged to do things right, you screw up together and learn from those mistakes. Right now we still run dungeons daily, and when any of us wants to do something else, we post on gw2lfg to fill the group, since we’re chilled and we’re at least 3 we love bringing inexperienced players on our runs as long as they keep a cool attitude and listen instructions it doesnt matter if someone screws up… I’d really like you to join us on these runs, we can teach you what we know and have a good time doing so, I’d have loved this same kind of offer when I was a newb =) so i hope you consider it =D Add me in-game, or search my char name “Nagelfear”

Cheers =D

I completely agree with your post, description of achievements is awful and confusing, however, regarding Vorpp’s achievements, I also didnt knew why after finishing some invasions it wouldnt count towards the achievement, till I started doing them only with the toon I did the Quenn’s speech instance (therefore having the “telephone” thingy you get from Vorpp at the end). Despite this, achievement description should state this is the case. I hope this helps =)

Stand against the smelly Charr and vote for someone that has your back as well as your best interests and Tyrias at heart ! Vote for Kiel!!!

This comment is racist, Im not kidding, is every Kiel supporter voting for her because she’s human? Also, she has a history of stealing credit, and its on the way to become the next Trahearne/Kormir.

Im voting for Evon =D

There is something fundamental which so many people miss about Kiel, Trahearne, etc. They’re not ‘stealing credit’, they’re bloody AI controlled characters. They let you do the footwork because if NPC’s were doing the sodding footwork, you’d have no game to play. All that separates Kiel and Trahearne from characters like Rox and Braham (besides nightmare-inducing eyes) is that their contribution befits a leadership role instead of a ’I’ll cast some combo fields here’ role.

Having said that: temp key discount > . . . . . . temp WP discount.

Im trying to get a bit of “immersion” here, I know they cant be super-heroes, and I’m not “missing” anything, I just can’t understand that this “war-hero” stays right on the entrance of Canach’s lair or be like “yeah guys you go and kill those pesky golems, also careful about those lasers!”, Im not asking for them to have more god-like powers, but to simply regard them for what they have actually done… to be called a war-hero for nothing is what I call “stealing credits”, the ones who completed the instances could be called war-heroes by certain npcs, it wouldnt be that bad or game-breaking IMO.

Best troll moments

Not much of a troll myself, but I can definitely see how much trolling you can achieve being a thief. I was doing tpvp with my friends, capping the mid point when I saw that Svanir returned (that boss was on “our” side, so I thought wth, I’ll do it) when I was arriving there was a necro and two other enemies beating the npc, I move in quietly, CnD and BS, the kill was mine, everyone attacked me but without avail, I ran, suddenly I see that this necro (we’ll call him Jim) was chasing me with all his necro speed, furious for what I just did, insulting me on chat. Up until that moment, we were losing for like a hundred points, but my steal seemed to have a negative impact on the enemy team as a whole, they started to chase me on sight, losing points, not zerging (which was what they were actually doing the whole fight), and Jim would attack me with all his might, even if he was outnumbered (dying in a hilarious way btw, insulting while dead, and unable to kill me, not one time, not even 1vs1). We ended up losing on a tight 499-500, Jimmy couldnt be happier, he showed that “kitten” thief how its done! proceding to laugh and trash talk, while me n my friends lolled hard. I’ll not post a picture of him insulting me (altough I hardly consider being called homosexual in a thousand ways much of an insult these days) but i’ll leave a little something that could show how happy he was when he won… and nah, i didnt reported him, must’ve been a 13 or something, and he gave me a good time! why would I?

Lag issues in Latin America

Milo Rock.2457

Im from Chile, and since at least a month I’ve been suffering horrible lag, not just me, a lot of friends and guildies too (though a minority seems to be doing fine most of the time). We’ve recently found a program called “WTFast” that does an amazing job at solving the lag spikes, unfortunately this program needs a paid subscription to work, and… well I tought Gw2 payment code was “buy once, play all you want” (says the game box), so, if I paid what you wanted me to pay, why should I pay a third party to play decenlty?
I think its been more than enough time and information from players, nevertheless I’ll submit my report through the ticketing system and hope for this problem to go away, its really sad that this atrocious lag only happens to me in the game, which, obviously, I want to play the most, this one.

Aether dungeon needs radical nerfing

Milo Rock.2457

Hi everyone, my experience with this dungeon was… rewarding, me and my friends are not pro’s but we can manage to clear medium-hard content. I’m really happy that Anet is bringing content like Molten again, and I hope that things like Southsun would not repeat, that said, it took 8 tries (10-15 min each) before we could get past lasers lab, Im not gonna lie, I was extremely annoyed with this part, but just because of 2 factors:
1.- Lag, oh the lag, that kind of lag where you see lasers a mile away and suddenly you’re dead, this is game breaking, a lot of people I know, guildies and such are experiencing lag-fest at certain hours (in the morning is perfectly fine), I think it’s a known issue, but also it has been going for at least a month now.
2.- The annoying pulls: its fine if they wanted to keep it this way, but it was just frustrating, you’re doing nothing wrong, evading like a champ and then suddenly, from the other side of the room (view blocked) a golem pulls you right into the lasers, dead.

We had to figure out how to mantain stability AND predict how to move because of lag, turns out we stacked on top of some boxes, used the guardian’s skill that grants 11 sec stability and hold the line and just took the big lasers, strategy indeed, but I dont know if this fight was meant to end like this… oh well, with a pair of tweaks it could’ve been perfect, but ok, still isnt Canach’s lair, so Im good. Having read the forum before, I was a little scared that the final boss would be cheaper than golems (having heard things like “endless cannon shots” “OHKO attack” and such, that couldnt be a fun fight) but turns out it was quite fun, it didnt took long to figure out what to do and when to evade (ok, that little box thingy that tells you what to do could’ve been done better), though I can agree that 12 stacks of bleeding that last forever its cheap (we had 2 guardians with pure of voice so this wasnt a problem when we were learning the mechanics, but not every group can do this).
All in all, when it was done we felt great, it was challenging, not everyone can make it and we did, it took, in my opinion, serious understanding of the game’s mechanics, so it can be said that this was a hard dungeon, just for that.

TL;DR: Great content, nice dungeon, however, I dont think we will farm it like we did with Molten, annoyances and lack of rewards (a jetpack? new kind of armor? yes please… a monocle? I’ll pass) would keep us for doing it. There’s always room for improvement, but for now, well done =D

PS: Fix lag issues, its seriously tearing this game apart for a lot of people =_=

Ill make a serious suggestion to the OP, just to try and end this argument.
Sir, create a thief, go to PVP, put in zerker jewels, daggers, and “zerker” runes (wurm, eagle, scholar, your choice), there you got a full zerker thief, which should be like the one that killed you so fast. You’ll notice that, while you do “acceptable” damage and have stealth, which definitively is good support, you are in no way invulnerable, and will most definitively die in 2 seconds when someone counters or starts swinging his sword in the air.
I believe, and Im not trying to be rude or anything, that the thief who got you could have had serious skill or just caught you when you were distracted (which is basically a strategy for us to use, since we cant take more than 2 hits) therefore, having surprassed you in a way, he deserved to win… when I roll my thief and get 2 shattered by a mesmer, eaten by a ranger (or ranger’s pet), destroyed by a condition-happy engineer, sure I get frustrated, but most of the time I realize that those players just outskill me, and know how to counter my 2-sec burst with their 1-sec counter
Its a sincere suggestion, when I simply cant take head on a class, I usually roll that class for pvp only and try to understand how hard it is to play it and whakittens weaknesses are, believe me, it helps =)

Nobody can counter a shadow step on zero cool down, spammable, breaks stun, bypasses immobilize.

You can’t counter what you can’t see..ever heard about dodging? Well thieves haven’t since we can’t dodge an attack we can’t see. Funny that..a broken mechanic that bypasses dodge completely..

How about stealth and shadowstep stomping that completely bypasses the downed state?

Stealth revive?

Perma stealth with D/P?

Removing condition and healing while stealth? Stealth doesn’t break on being damaged?

Please stop pretending the class needs all that.. Only bad players need all that.

How about you roll a warrior and see how well you do? You won’t..because the broken thief class carries the player who abuses its mechanics big time.

I dont know what your problem is =/ im trying to be actually helpful here and not brag about everything you dont like about some class, sure we got resources to defend ourselves, so do every class in this game, i dont like being stomped by an engineer that uses Elixir S or destroyed by a shatter mesmer (as I said before), in fact, I have to be extra careful when I roll my thief, avoiding fights, choosing when to strike, I cant just run into the action and hope for the best, I’d just get destroyed, fast. Actually, if I just want to charge into battle, spam skills, kill everyone, have beast recovery and lots of blocking skills, I use a zerk guardian, its way more easier and effective than using a thief.
Bottom line, please let’s mantain this conversation helpful, you get nothing showing me what a thief can do, since every class got their own ways to deal with different situations. No class “carries” a “bad player”, a bad thief spams HS and gets killed in 2 secs, if a thief killed you, he outskilled you/caught you, thats my point, respawn and try again, no big deal

PS: I also roll a warrior, sorry to dissapoint you, I do pretty well in pvp doing teamwork, I wouldnt charge by myself like I do in PvE, but it doesnt matter, in pvp everything is different-

First of all, I’ll state that I believe the new Ascalonion Catacombs is great. This is coming from someone who farmed a lot of gold from that dungeon, has 3000+ tears, and has LvLed two characters to 80 through it.

And thats where I stopped reading. Why? Because your view is skewed by the very fact that you have played the game that much and are well versed in the mechanics, have plenty of resources and characters and probably have plenty of people on hand from your guild to join up with that are at the resources/character/playtime as you.

Im dont proclaim to be any kind of gaming god, but I am not a fool either. I see the potential in the current AC setup, however the scale of the challenge is just to much for the very people the dungeon is advertised to; New level 35 characters.

New players, with 35-45 characters and no real resources have very very little chance of passing this now without wiping multiple times along the way. Consistantly wiping over and over is not “fun” for most people.

The curent encounters and mechanics are good, they are just OP in execution.

Actually this is a really good argument, I agree to pretty much everything the OP says, but he is forgetting this should be a “low level” dungeon, the one that new players (those who have little idea about mechanics) should be doing. Nevertheless, if AC was to be THAT easy, higher-lvl/experienced players would grind it for gold/tokens, which I think was the problem in the first place. I’ll leave that dilemma as an open question, for I dont know exactly how to resolve it.

One way could be: easier dungeon, less rewarding (that way we avoid lvl restrictions)

Btw: I completely agree that, from a lvl 80’s pov, this dungeon was made much more interesting, team-oriented, and overall fun to play, its the lvl designed for it that troubles me. If they revamp, say, Cof, this way, I’d have nothing to say but congratulations to the dungeon design team

Due to the reward being so high, and the upscaling for the living world, this was seen as being bad.

Are these players getting away with this?

Questions about the Thief! Because I'm awful.

in Thief

Milo Rock.2457

Hi there!, I hope these answers help you =) I had a hard time learning how to use my thief, so hopefully you’ll save some time with these tips:

1.- I’d like you to try the following build, its pretty common (and effective) 10-30-30. Use Mug and shadow rejuvenation as mandatory traits, you can choose the others (i’d also personally choose executioner, but hidden killer is fine too). Your weapon set will be Dagger/pistol (D/P) any secondary set is fine, like shortbow.

2.- Well, since you havent discovered it yet, its time to learn the beauties of stealth: D/P skill #5 creates a smoke field, using a leap finisher (skill #2, heartseeker) allows you to enter stealth, and since this isnt an utility, you dont have to wait 30sec minimum to enter stealth again (just the 3-4s revealed debuff), we’ll call this the “supah stealth combo”
Now here’s how you’ll play from now on: get in melee range (its nice to use skill #3 as it’s a gap closer and deals good damage) and inmediately do the supah stealth combo, you see, the smoke field will blind your enemy as long as it lasts, in the meantime you’ll be choping and slicing like there’s no tomorrow, with a backstab as a fine damage-dealing gift. As soon as the revealed debuff wears off, do #2 again and give another backstab, rinse and repeat.
You’ll be dealing good damage, and the best part is that 90% of mobs (outside dungeons) will miss their hits as they’ll be blind, so you can rest easy on your squishy thief. As a panic measure, entering stealth via combo or shadow refuge will heal you, or u could mug a mob for a little healing, thats nice too. Beware though, in dungeons, blinding mobs doesnt work as fine as in the open world, so learn when to rest easy and when to be cautious.

3.- Use Zerker, and while you’re learning, you can combine it with some knight gear, it isnt a sin.

When you’re confident enough, you can try a 25-30-X-X-X build for more damage, in the meantime, learn more about combos, the beauties of stealth and how to survive in general (as you may know, we die incredibly fast, making us feel awful)

I hope this helped, i’d be happy to read a reply, and if it worked or not for you =)

See ya!

I can agree with you on the “ask if you dont know” part, but suggesting to use youtube is just rude, if you dont have time or just dont want to spend more time in a dungeon you should look for “experienced” players, as you said, nobody was born knowing, and Im sure you died a lot on your first couple dungeon runs, while someone was having patience, and not exactly suggesting you to go watch youtube and get out of the way. Im no expert myself, but I like to teach the paths I know to newbs, and as long as they read what Im suggesting, I could say the extra time spent on a dun is 5 min per newb (except Arah, lol)

Why is CM always a nightmare?

Milo Rock.2457

Wow… I never thought people found this dun hard… I thought nobody did it because its boring. Being this the case, i think i got extremely lucky, im in no way a skilled player, i made the bad decision of chosing a thief as my main and first class, and still CM was the only instance i could run repeteadly without embarrasing myself. I was so bad playing this game when I started that in my first dun (AC, pre-patch mind you) i kept dying and quit the group out of shame, and i found CM far more forgiving, in fact I got enough tokens to buy the entire set before getting to 80. I repeat, I AM, to this day, an average player, in fact I still cant run arah, but I think I could 3-man CM easily, without glitching, just because I know the path, I know what to do. In this way I am convinced that CM is no different from any other dun (except CoF path 1 of course, I could solo that… thing) “dont fool around, stick to the group, you’ll be fine”

Im starting to think people actually tackles the huge mob zerg after “bloody Victoria” and hope to win… honestly, in every dun there are parts that are just there to skip, not because you want to do a speed run, but because of a design choice, there is skill in skipping a huge zerg without dying.

Hello, and thanks for reading, you’ll have to forgive me, as English is not my native language and I’m trying really hard for this to be as correct as possible.

Before this particular event, I had the feeling a couple of times that after finishing a dungeon the tokens would just not be added into any of my bags, but wasnt sure, today, I am.
I finished a run of Ascalonian Catacombs, at the end everything was fine, the message rewarding me with tokens and silvers appeared, I accepted, then I left the instance. I was surprised when I reached the bank and saw I received no rewards, no coins, no tokens, nothing. Its not that big of an issue, but it still is a waste of time, and would like to see if this has happened to anyone else, or if it is an issue that’s being looked up into… any information would be nice =)

New Thief - Seeking some wisdom

Milo Rock.2457

Hi there!
I had a hard time leveling my thief early on, basically because it was my first character and i had no idea of the game mechanics, i would’ve killed for some tips on good builds, so I hope this info helps you.
As a secondary weapon, shortbow seems like a safe choice, honestly i havent tried anything else because of how good it is in crowd control, if I may suggest something, try “signet of malice” as your healing skill and see how it works with your shortbow (especially with “cluster bomb”), basically you win health with each hit, and given the shortbow’s amazing multi-hits this combo can have you with top health most of the time (tip: try detonating cluster bomb in mid air, it does so much more damage)
Now, it requires some practice (not much if you ask) but try Dagger/Pistol, it works incredibly well in PvE… see, with this duo you can enter stealth easily and do backstabs, also interrupt the enemy’s attacks, so there’s practically no difficult mob if you time everything right.
Try this: enter a fight with 3 (you’ll teleport and blind the enemy, giving you a few secs to bash him) then press 5 (black powder, it blinds your enemy again, giving you more time to auto-attack him) and before black powder wears off, press 2 (heartseeker, does masive damage and will cloack you when used with powder), if you want you can sneak behind him and make a nice backstab.
Repeat 5, autoattack, then 2 (and backstab)
As I said, it requires a little practice, but it’ll increase your chances of survival by millions (honest, before this I kept dying)… thieves are incredibly easy to take down, but this guarantees you will not take damage if you do it right, also it helps you understand a lot of the game’s mechanics (namely combos and blindness)
For this build you shall use power/precision traits and equipment, it works best with those backstabs (signet of agility would be great too)

Hope this helps! Feel free to ask any doubts =)
