I’ve never had that happen, I get the one a lot where while running or jumping my head drops into my chest and after standing still for a minute pops back up.
Such an annoying one too, been there since launch.

I can’t speak for everyone, but I know from watching trends in other games that support microtransactions and from my own personal opinion that templates work awesome.
Look at the success of the greatsaw skin for example. That thing is amazing, and holds a price that almost compares to precursors!

While it isn’t a big deal to me since I have mine, perhaps templates for the racial armors on the TP for cash. You know, stuff like that which is cool to spend money on, can be used in combat (I hate you cool town clothes!) and gives absolutely no gameplay advantage.

Just my 2c, but also just saying people like me spend way too much real money on that cosmetic stuff, so in the immortal words of Fry – “shut up and take my money!”

Remember, you must stay in one zone for all of the 500k to register. If you leave the zone, you start over. It does reset, the indicator does not show that, though, only showing the highest amount achieved, thus far.

Yeah I saw an official comment on that while searching for an answer.
I suppose I’ll throw some gold at my character and try the crafting method to get the achievement.
Either way I’m just stoked it’s working, before I took a break to handle increased demands at work it just wasn’t working at all for anyone.

First of all i would buyout ArenaNet from NCsoft and give them full independence to what they create.

This would be what every developer everywhere needs to do. The suits have smelled money to be made in the games industry, and money makes all the decisions. That needs to change so games can go back to being made by gamers for gamers, not to make a quick profit.

10 year development cycles aren’t cheap, but seeing a game pushed out 6 months to a year early and getting horrible reviews because the publisher thought a certain release date was more important than a quality game is upsetting to say the least.
Then once released, unless you’re Blizzard with ungodly amounts of cash to throw at a game, you’re going to have to watch your spending. The industry standard layoffs after release suddenly means you have a team focused more on keeping investors happy with constant updates than fixing existing minor bugs like text errors.

With that said, while I bounce between MMOs like crazy I always have a special place in my heart for GW2 simply for what they’re doing. A quality game, constant content and balance updates, community interaction and not trying to make the game ‘pay to win’ to bully players into paying them.

Was working towards this and must have upset the interweb Gods as a champion mob popped up under my poor squishy ele and one shot him.
Now my counter is stuck at 448k/500k. Is there any way to reset the counter? Is it still going in the background and will only show once I pass that mark?

Any input would be awesome, pulling my hair out with OCD seeing it so close and yet so far.

I’d be open to it if they branded it differently.
For example a lump sum of gems (higher than what you’d get by outright buying them) monthly, with let’s say a 3 month sub.

Even unique skins or something like that I’d be happy with.

Racial "Prestige Class"

Just to be clear before I start, I’m talking balanced stuff here. Not something everyone would pick, but something that some would because they like the class itself, or just the extra racial flair it gives.

Was just thinking that it would be nice to have some additional flavor to your racial choice. Possibly locked out of sPvP, or even possibly something you have the option to pick later in your character’s life and you switch to your starting class in sPvP.

You have some obvious ones like the Asuran Golemancer. Charr I’d think tank driver, or perhaps a heavy artillery/rocket launcher based class.
Humans maybe pilot one of those one man helicopters?
Hard to say for Norn and Sylvari simply because I’m not as familiar with their lore.
Perhaps a summoner class would fit with one? Single or dual summon, fills a very specific role (tank, damage, heal or CC).

These are things that NPCs already are, the Golemancer is a huge one lore wise.

It’s something I loved in RF Online. 3 warring factions. Same classes are shared between them, but then each race gets a unique one. (Mech driver, rocket launcher user, summoner)
I think the GW lore already has the groundwork done for it, would just be a matter of ironing out the idea.

They claim they don’t want to over tune and have to nerf later, but that sounds stupid when talking about a class with broken traits, quite a few broken abilities (aoe regen in staff water. Unless they’re using a new system of time, 2.5 seconds isn’t the same as 9), and a poorly thought out class mechanic, on top of that a class they keep nerfing as well. The afraid to make too strong argument dies fast.
Kind of like the dev post about how they won’t buff necro because supposedly death shroud is such a powerful mechanic it would make them god mode lol.

It would be amazingly easy to know what you wanted to go for and what was mathematically the best if the insane Anet would actually give real tooltips and information about items and stats in this game. Right now we have no idea what anything even does.

How much damage does 1 power give you? How much % reduction does 1 armor or 1 toughness? What is the rate of reduced effectiveness as it climbs higher?

Sigil: Steal some health on critical hit.

What does that even mean? Some health? Who wrote this stuff?

I did some tests and I may be crazy but I swear my warrior has a higher base damage reduction, more than should be accounted for by the heavy vs light armor level alone.

Vitality is nice, but I was hoping to reduce my incoming damage. I bring the 4 second heal in dungeons that need condition removal, works like a charm.
I run a power precision build so 30 air is pretty much mandatory, and since it’s dungeon focused I need blasting staff too. There’s 50 down.
I suppose the last 20 could go in water, but it seems ridiculous to kitten my damage output for that little health in a situation where if I was going to get one shot before, I probably still will.

That’s why I tried toughness armor, works wonders for my warrior. Mindblowing how nice it is, even on my girlfriend’s guardian. The actual damage reduction seems to be a lot less on cloth though.

PvE Survivability

Been playing ele since the sad downward slide ever since bwe2, and recently with finishing up my warrior I’ve been trying to add survivability.
Here’s my problem though. Just bought a full set of knight’s gear. Full emerald orbs. Got to 2600 toughness.
Damage I take dropped a couple hundred for every thousand I take, which seems like nothing. 20-30% damage reduction absolute tops.

For that the sacrifice is a couple hundred power and a ton of crit damage. I went from 2300 crits to 1100 crits for a very minor boost in damage reduction.

Do we get less benefit from toughness? Hell my warrior with almost identical gear and a mace for perma weakness can face tank and sit auto attacking champions and be fine. And do good damage. More than the ele in the same gear, with more passive healing, better passive defense and better utility.

I really love my asuran ele but I can’t help feeling like a second class citizen compared to my warrior, engineer or ranger. Or even my thief for that matter!

Is there some secret I’m missing or is ele just ten times the effort for half the reward?

Even that supposed awesome build on the forum here with the video of soloing a champion, it’s way less damage and way riskier than most other classes to do the same thing.

TLDR: don’t see how the small gains in toughness compare to the huge damage loss, seems like ele is severely undergeared in solo pve.

Long post, spoiler heavy. OP should read IMO.
Also from the hidden text, maybe OP should go back, make a new Asura and see what happens in the tutorial. You know when the Inquest sends killer golems to slaughter the city as a test.


Hold up, OP missed a LOT of stuff.
Like I don’t know, the initial quest where the inquest sent an army of killer golems to kill everyone? And then Teyo is there (one of the heads of the inquest), and openly tries killing Zojja among other Peacemaker officers.

So right off the bat you missed they went on a killing spree. Second of all you did the first two quests. Cool. You somehow didn’t notice before the fight the inquest said they’d kill you so there was no evidence.

In the Charr storyline around 30 you’re given the option to go wipe out an inquest group and steal their info and it’s stated that it’s common knowledge that that specific info and much other Inquest research is stolen, and the people who did it are then killed, which is what they did to the dredge in that quest to get it.

The Asurans are at best chaotic neutral in that they do some messed up stuff, and some good stuff (helping the Pact, and on the other hand you have experiments being done to skritt and ettins, etc).

In the story quests it’s stated that the Inquest is too big and even has members in council seats and can’t be fought outright. Hell the security chief is even in their pockets, tries to kill the rest of the council, Zojja and you as well.

So wait until you do a few more quests rather than the first 2, somehow miss the whole starting/tutorial quest and then make an opinion on them.

You think you have problems with your rez skills. Try the guardian one – You don’t have it so bad in that department. It revives a single downed person nearby with an equally long cast time , longer cooldown and no secondary effects.

That just establishes a pattern where the devs believe rezzing skills must be an absolute waste of time. If they weren’t, they would probably be mandatory for every teambased aspect to the game whatsoever.

Still makes you wonder why they added rezzing skills in the first place if they intended to make them so, so terrible. It’s just a newbie skill point trap.

I’d say just get rid of them already and replace them with some actually usable skills.

Pretty much this. I keep trying to find a way to fit it in every new build I make, yet just can’t find a way to make it worthwhile.

Just a thought, combine lesser and elite elemental summons to either a stronger elite version, or keep the elite version as is and replace the non version with it and then give us an actual decent elite.

The water elemental is SITUATIONALLY useful in that it does a PBAoE heal twice in its duration that is half decent at 6k or something, otherwise is pretty bad. But then you’re looking at another attunement CD.

Tornado should probably have a bigger effect and pull in rather than push and people standing 10 feet away are just fine, killing you easier and safer than if you hadn’t used it.

Whirlpool was strong, but compared to our normal underwater damage compared to other classes was the only thing that balanced the field IMO. A 33% nerf was more than excessive.

The conjure, like all other conjures is extremely situational and generally worse than just sticking with your normal skills.

-My suggestion-
Fire Tornado. Pulls in. Leaves a persistant burning trail wherever you move, lasts 4 seconds, moderate burn damage. Pulls enemies in. Grants swiftness rather than essenially causing cripple as it does now. kitten flaming tornado animation.

An elemental that persists until dead, like all of the necro minions. Would make it slightly more useful. Could see it being used for an earth one as a PvE tank to make that a bit easier also.

A glyph that upon use negates attunement CDs for a set period (10s?), 30s CD perhaps? Sounds strong but remember this is your elite slot. ALL that does is removes attunement CDs, which IMO shouldn’t exist in the first place and go completely against the spirit of the class, but that’s going offtopic.

Yeah. Doesn’t work with updraft (blowback not KD, test and see), and you have nothing in earth that can do a big hit to take advantage of a 2 second KD. Your big hit is a 5 second cast.

Kind of kills your point. IF updraft was considered a KD (as I feel it should be), and the intelligence sigil for a guaranteed crit worked for ele (which it doesn’t. Still broken), then yes, that would make VERY nice burning speed+arcane insta cast crits.
As it stands though neither case is true, and the trait is worthless. Being in air I suspect it was intended to work with updraft and is yet another bug though.

Updraft Casting Delay in sPvP?

Is it just me or in the last day or two has updraft gotten a weird hidden cast time/delay?
Testing on golems it worked fine, yet walking up to the testing profession NPCs or in a match it takes a second or two to go off, with a frontal wind cone animation before anything happens.

Starting to feel like half the time RTL CCs me, now the other half updraft does.

Figured I’d ask if it’s just me, doesn’t seem to be all the time either, but pretty commonly. Not fun watching someone walk a couple steps away after you RTL (and it actually works), PBAoEs hit and then hit updraft and watch nothing happen except you CC yourself for about 1.5s.

Meteor. and Meteor shower. Not sure why it is not here (meteor) but it was quite a spell. Same with meteor shower – it came with a cost handicapping you but when it hits you kind of feel it. One of those two was always on my skill bar.

Double Dragon (double fire attack). All other elite damaging spells actually. The brought a flavour to the battle. I still remember those train builds where the ele casts armor of earth and basically nuking me in coulple of seconds from point blank range with Double Dragon as a finisher. Sure, there has to be balance and I am not demanding to get the GW behavior but such skills do make things more versatile. People who played GW know what I am saying.

Same for mesmer’s hexes.

I hope such skills will be implemented in future. Maybe not with the same power, for sure, but with similar ideas.

What about you?

Oh man I miss mesmer hexes! You basically just trolled your opponent knowing if they tried to kill you, they’d die first.

(Humorous) Suggestion for Ele's Downed Skills

Just a few ideas for changes to the ele downed state.

Starting from the end, remove the heal. Instead replace it with “Gives any attackers 50% increased glory for the stomp”. We’re a free stomp, why not give them a prize for pressing F so skillfully? Also it should be a passive effect since as the forums will quickly tell you, any ele issues are L2P issues, wouldn’t want us bads to cut back on extra glory from a free stomp!

Skills 1 through 3 should be replaced with a single skill that when used causes an emote that says “[player] wonders why necromancers think they’re so special. Grenth is on our speed dial!”.

I feel these simple changes will greatly improve the game experience of everyone who has to waste time fighting an ele and go through the motions pretending their class takes the same effort to play.

To the person who said it seemed like a 1v1 build, it mostly is. The thought behind is that it’s a really easy to play build to help new necros build up pvp experience before moving onto their own builds.
1v1 is what you see a lot of new pvpers doing, basically running around killing randomly until they figure out objectives.
The minions stay up fairly well, I personally pop my little guys when someone gets downed and stomp right away, otherwise when they get up they have half health and you’re still full anyhow.

I agree that staff is amazing in pvp, your dagger does good damage, but the main bonus is a relatively fast cd life steal that ticks on you for 312, giving about 3k health and doing about the same in damage.
You don’t even need all the minions attacking at once simply because most of what they are for is stealing boons, clearing your conditions and healing you.

A pleasant side effect though when you are with teammates, is asurans are hard a hell to target past your rock dog and minions.

With any build, you should ALWAYS tailor it for the little changes that suit you. Builds are a guideline, never a rule.

As for minions not attacking, the weapon choice seems to resolve the issue. You’re basically in melee most of the time and I haven’t had an issue yet. As long as you enter combat when they’re in agro range of the target they seem to work for the most part.

I will say it’s not a build for someone looking to be the best necro ever. If you are, this is not the build for you. This build is so you can slap it together and do quite well with very little knowledge of the class or abilities, something that judging by the forums is needed. And for that the people I got to test it found it easy to be successful with little effort, and not dead the whole match. That’s what I designed this for, and feedback I have gotten says I succeeded.

Here is your easy mode necromancer build. This build is probably not for someone who wants to spend a thousand hours mastering the class. It’s for someone who wants to hop in and enjoy pvp without a ton of effort and still do well and survive while killing. I tossed it together because I wanted to see if I could make an effortless build on the lines of what thieves, guardians, etc. have, but better.
You wont kill as fast as many people, but that doesn’t matter since they wont kill you and you’ll shred glass cannon builds.

So a little info about how the build works. Like I said, it’s lazy. You heal CONSTANTLY through your minions. You get a LOT of healing via your dagger mainhand which also does a surprising amount of damage considering how tanky you are.
Minions have their own set damage so they’re good and your traits are almost entirely devoted to them. You DO want to be in melee range most of the time and keep that chilled up as much as possible. They have chill on, they aren’t using as many abilities.

I can’t say your experience will be the same as mine, but in 20 consecutive games I have not met a single person who can kill me 1v1. 2v1 you can survive an amazingly long time, but probably wont get the kill in on both since the other is going to do their best from letting you stomp their teammate. Running with a partner is laughable. You create so many targets from minions to your rock dog that targeting is MUCH harder for the enemy, and since you’re a clothy they often focus on you even if you aren’t dying in the slightest. Heartseeker spam is no problem since most of the time they just run away anyhow, guardians can’t outlast you from what I’ve seen, even full support ones can’t outlast the onslaught. Everyone else is pretty much in the same boat. Glass cannon AOE is your weakness, BUT those players go down so fast that unless you ignore them it wont be a problem. Summon as soon as a minion dies.
