Showing Posts For Mirodir.1672:
1) Abusing Poppers, which turned karma into gold at a rate far exceeding what was obvious from every other karma cycle in the game – BY THE THOUSANDS.
Vendors were involved at the start and the end of the chain. Thus using fixed input and fixed outcome.
2) Abusing low prices on a merchant, a merchant which was clearly pricing items far, far below any other merchant in the game. Again, BY THE THOUSANDS.
The merchant’s price was off for a factor of thousand. Nobody could think that being x1000 different than other merchants selling almost the same item could be intended.
Also it’s a merchant at one end of the chain again. Thus giving the chain a fixed input (and you might even make profit selling everything to a merchant in the end).
3) Abusing a recipe IN ASPECIFIC MANNER WHICH WAS INCONSISTENT WITH THE LEGITIMATE USE OF A RECIPE – by the hundreds, if not the thousands.
The recipe (not the beginning or the end of the chain but the middle part) was off by not even a factor of 5 from similar recipes. Some MMO’s have their special-event/limited recipes being easier to produce; so everyone can participate even if they’re not as rich as Scrooge McDuck. The input and the output were determined by players. I don’t see ANY profit you can do with crafting as anything different than using the missing knowledge of players to earn money.
An exploit is an exploit the first time it’s done. (Not punishable though) Doing it a hundred or a thousand time doesn’t change it from “legit gameplay mechanic” to “exploit”. You can’t use “people did it a thousand times, now it’s an exploit” as argument; or else everyone crafting rare’s and salvaging them for ecto is an exploiter because that gets done thousands of times a day.
It shouldn’t be based on volume. A crime is a crime, regardless of the number of times it’s committed. The volume only influences the likelyhood of getting caught. Volume can be a clue that people are exploiting a bug… but it shouldn’t be the standard by which people are judged.
Volume is an indicator that people knowingly exploited it. If someone does it a few times, they may have been testing it, or were just making a batch of them. They may not have any idea they’re actually exploiting.
If anyone tried it out 5 times and figured out he could make a winning with it (and failed to see that it was not supposed to work this way like I would have if I knew about it in time) then NOT making money with it doesn’t show much intelligence.
Real Life example:
If a company sells phones for 50$ and I can break the phone up and sell a part of it for 70$ on ebay then I’d be stupid to not go and buy more phones.
What will happen is what happened in GW2 aswell. Less people will be willing to buy that specific part as the market gets saturated, as a result I have to sell it for less and less. At the same time the phone-company might realize they’re mistaken and raise the price. (Ecto’s dropping, Flakes+Mithril raising)
Nobody will get sued unless I signed some form contract (even an oral one) that disallowed me to resell it.
Abusing that recipe will likely also be ruled an exploit, if Anet notices people doing that.
Making a few of them? Not a problem. But people don’t just make “a few,” they make hundreds or thousands.
So the thing they exploited was not the fact that people underpriced their materials because they didn’t know what was possible but that the recipe didn’t follow the same rules other recipes did?
This one recipe took one ecto-based material to craft, as opposed to 5 ecto-based material all other similar recipes take.
Taking advantage of this fact is exploiting.
http://www.gw2spidy.com/recipe/2373
I can get an average of roughly 0.9 Ectos out of salvaging this, the only reason why it’s not abusable is because recipes like this made the prices equal. People craft and salvage this EN MASSE to slowly earn money.
It was an error by A-Net not making them need 5 Ectos BUT every recipe shapes the market and some people are able to use this to earn money. You can’t expect the producer to make sure that the value of an item before and after crafting are roughly 1:1 because the market isn’t 100% stable. Even if a recipe is added with a 1:1 value-transformation THIS specific recipe might create an item so cool that it causes the market to shift; allowing some people to earn money with it. What you need to understand is that the market is 100% player-driven. The only way A-Net should influence it is by adding new items/mechanics.
I’m afraid that my unawareness of some recipes might trick me into believing that I found an underpriced item on the market I can make use of instead of finding a typo in a recipe. While it was clear that an item that costs 27 Karma ON A VENDOR shouldn’t be abused I don’t think it was clear that an item that gets sold for to little BY A PLAYER shouldn’t be bought and used. If a one-time use is perfectly fine why isn’t a repeated use? I’ve seen the Halloween crafting mats going for around 5 gold the first few minutes after the patch back then (on BLT, not in map-chat). There were actually people who bought them. Should A-Net ban the people who sold them for 5 gold? I don’t think they should (unless those people promised something wrong).
(edited by Mirodir.1672)
It is OK to craft items using high-level mats and de-construct them, at times, as part of gaining ecto.
It is NOT OK to craft items using high-level mats and then de-construct them en mass. Hell, it is NOT OK to do ANYTHING en mass except kill and loot mobs, construct items, or de-construct Salvage Items.
So it’s alright to do it sometimes but if I do it all the time it is an exploit? Sounds really wishy-washy to me.
Also I can promise you there are a lot of people right now buying bags EN MASS, opening them and selling what’s inside. There are a lot of people right now crafting rares and salvaging them for Ectos EN MASS. They do this for months now without ever even getting a warning and earn their money that way.
It is NOT OK to craft items using high-level mats and then de-construct them when you are obtaining all of the high-level materials used to craft the items.
This was not the case though. You didn’t get all the Mithril back (arguably “high-level”) and you didn’t get all the snowflakes back (80%, definitely “high-level”). It only seemed to be an endless loop because the snowflakes were totally underpriced due to the players’ nescience.
It is NOT OK to buy items from vendors, craft items with those items, then sell them to vendors for more than the material cost.
I don’t think anyone would ever argue about this being an exploit or not.
(edited by Mirodir.1672)
….make profit with people not being informed about new mechanics and when not?
When the next event starts it will MAYBE add another new recipe that allows people to but materials and turn them into something more expensive. (Which is what happened on Wintersday. There was never an endless cycle. The cost to re-do the recipe was just really low because of people not knowing what the recipe is capable of; thus selling their items for too low.)
So when there is an item is majorly underpriced on the BLT regarding what I can turn it into. How can I know if it is okay to but this item and make money with it? I’m seriously scared to interact with the market in any way right now because I know I’d most likely abuse other people’s nescience to make money. And this seems to be regarded as an exploit by A-Net.

Robique;
Are you telling me/us that you would be completely fine if they would just ban you RIGHT NOW without providing any reason? I am pretty sure you’d complain loudly if they banned you while saying there’s no reason for that ban.
Of course A-Net has the legal right to terminate their services at their free will. I don’t think anyone EVER said they don’t. I don’t think anybody stood up and said: “What you did is illegal.” If this actually happened then this person is obviously not really smart.
It is completely legal. But it being legal doesn’t mean it is fair by default. (I’m not taking any side right now.). The discussion was about the bans being fair or not. The word “right” might have been used one or the other time but only as an analogy to “fairness” and not to any legal system.

Weird.
This is the first online-survey I created. I personally don’t think that you antivirus is rightfully seeing this as a threat. Nobody in the reddit-thread ever complained and I got ~250 answers as of now.
Also a google search for the website I use to run the survey didn’t yield any suspicious results. I understand if you don’t want to take the risk though.
To make you more comfortable sharing this with me…here are my answers:
Male, 20, attracted towards females.
I main a Male.
I own 1 male and 4 female characters.
I have 381 hours played; 301 on my male.
I have female characters because: I find it better looking (non-sexual), I find it sexy and for diversity between characters
I enjoy playing Sylvari Mesmer the most
Dungeons/Fractals and WvW are the things that get me playing.
I play MMO’s for 6 years now.
I don’t want you to share your answers in any way (except in my survey) but you could still discuss what you expect as an outcome. What I forgot to ask, etc.
Today I saw the results of another GW2-survey that was mainly based around your character’s personality and your own personality.
While the results were surely interesting it left me with a lot of open questions…and what would be better to solve those questions than yet another survey?
I will let this survey running until I think I have gathered enough information to make clear statements.
I hope I don’t have to remind you to answer truthfully and as precise as possible. If you don’t want to share personal info then you can leave them open. I will use the data gathered for this survey only.
As mentioned already…you need less reflexes and more good memory and clean execution.
As an addition to what has been said before (I especially like the “not everyone has it” thing) I only want to add that this achievement doesn’t count towards the Halloween-title. You’re not gonna miss out on much if you can really not do it in the end.
I had a thread open about this. I’ll show you what I posted in the OP.
It had mostly POSITIVE feedback from the comunity…but then it got merged into the huge thread about MKC’s like every other very good detailed thread about minor aspects of the MKC’s.
I believe that everyone who gets keys always uses them (unless he knows that they will be worth more in a future event). So when players got keys before Sept 25th and used them on BLC they recieved named Tonics instead of Mystery Tonics. Was this any problem back when they updated the BLC? No. Is it one now? Yes I think so.
If you got Mystery Tonics since Sept 25th you could store them in your bank and leave them there. Now that the MKC’s are added you can use those Tonics to craft MKC’s while everyone who used their keys before Sept 25th are left out because their Tonics are named and don’t work in the recipe.
I understand that this “addition” was needed to increase the worth of keys used during the current event…but right now it favors EVERYONE who opened their chests after Sept 25th while people like me who played before that day and used all their keys instantly are left out on the fun. I’d be fine if the recipe would only work with Tonics from after this event started or something like that OR if there was a way to convert named Tonics into Mystery Tonics.
This right now is just a boot in the…behinds…of all players who used to play since release and have their bank full of named Tonics because of this.
Edit: I’m not complaining that people who wanted Halloween items get a second chance. I’m complaining that everyone who opened chests since the 25th of Sept (not Oct) gets chances while everyone who used their keys prior to that date (which is unrelated to Halloween) doesn’t.
As I said…we had a good discussion about this…and then got merged into the huge mega-thread.
As the OP of an ex-thread about the Mad-King-Chests and how they negatively affected early-players I also feel ran over by the merging of everything. I also saw a few other threads that had completely different topics that only slightly touched the MKC’s and they got merged in here.
I understand they didn’t want 100 threads about the same topic…but merging 100 threads with DIFFERENT aspects of one topic derails ANY discussion but what the vast majority (which is obviously all the Q.Q’ers) wants to talk about.
Bye small detailed discussions about minor parts of MKB; hello bandwagon-majority.
I recall someone from AN saying that everything you can do during Act 1 you can do until the whole event is over.
How would you not have known what you were getting when you can mouse over the chest and it says exactly what you get: a random tool, a random buff and a random stack of tonics. I opened a few before Halloween and I knew what I was getting.
They had items in there that were less common than others…back then as they do now. But we’re getting far off-topic here.
More whining? I’m shocked. You opened chests when you opened them… knowing what was in them. Any change made 1 minute after that entitles you to nothing.
Yes. I’m not saying I am entitled to anything. I’m actually happy with my bank full of specific Tonics…As I said. If people are allowed to feel cheated who opened chests since the 25th of Sept then everyone who opened chests before that day is allowed to feel cheated.
It’s a simple naming issue Aliquis, nothing more.
The tonics before sept 25 were called different than those after.
This makes that the same tonics, but under their old names, aren’t usable in the Mad King recipes.
While all others since september 25 are usable. That’s it.
Nothing about random, or gambling, or complaing… just a naming issue for basically the same items.
It’s not exactly the same. You can actually craft those named Tonics with the Mystery Tonics in the Mystic Forge. They are basically ONE specific animal that you can turn into by chance when using a Mystery Tonic. Sadly you can only do:
Mystery→Named
but not: Named→Mystery.
(edited by Mirodir.1672)
If you opened chests before the Halloween event, then you knew exactly what you were getting and got exactly what was promised. It ends there.
The problem with the Halloween chests was that they were advertised as Halloween chests but most of the items inside were regular, non Halloween items and people wanted Halloween items. That’s why they got to convert them to chests containing Halloween items.
They were not advertised as “Halloween chests” in any way. All they said was that they added a chance to get an exclusive skin during the event. Also people had the same problem back when they added more stuff to the BLC about month ago.
Also: Do you think we knew what was in the chests back then? We opened them and then saw what’s inside. We didn’t know exactly what was in there, we also had to find out first.
I’m not complaining that people who wanted Halloween items get a second chance. I’m complaining that everyone who opened chests since the 25th of Sept (not Oct) gets chances while everyone who used their keys prior to that date (which is unrelated to Halloween) doesn’t.

1. Will you or will you not be buying black lion trading company or random number generation materials again?
I will be buying stuff from the BLTC in the future. Not using real money though.
2. Did you buy them in the past?
I bought one set of Dyes using converted ingame-gold.
3. If you would not buy trading post material/gamble, would you support direct to buy weapon skins and what general price do you find acceptable from a business standpoint both as a customer and realizing that they must make money as a business?
I am glad they are a gamble. Whoever doesn’t like the gamble has the possibility to get those skins in the TP
4. Do you believe that future events will also be handled with random number generation to make profit based on limited time item acquisition?
No because of all the whiners…and I’m sad about it.
5. If you believe that the future events will be handled in the same manner, does this realization negatively effect your trust of Arena Net in regard to handling micro transactions for permanent content?
No it doesn’t. It would raise my trust into AN because it makes them stay true to their decisions.
6. Did you obtain a skin or whatever it is you were looking to get from the black lion trading chests? From the Mad King Chests?
Yes. I opened one chest with a key I got during my Personal Story on a toon…and I got one skin. I was a fan of the gambling before that moment already though.
7. Have you bought any of the direct purchase, set priced halloween items. If so, will you be buying more?
If the Halloween Minis count…then yes I did.
So people who conserve their assets, and resist gluttony and temptation, are reaping the benefits? Shocked I tell you! Shocked!
I’m 99% sure you used sarcasm there and I’ll respond like it was sarcasm.
Uhm…this is exactly NOT what is happening right now. People who drank their Tonics when they got them (gluttony and temptation) feel no difference. They would’ve drank named AND Mystery-Tonics anyways. People who conserve what they got from their chests after the 25th of Sept are fine and able to “reap the benefits” while people conserve what they got before that day are stuck with a full bank AND the inability to reap the benefits.
Nice try though.
each Black Lion Chest you open has a chance to give you one of six exclusive Halloween-themed weapon skins!
has a chance
You can clearly see that those skins aren’t meant for everyone to have. If it was for everyone then they’d say “Each chest contains one exclusive Halloween-themed weapon skins!”
Because the Mad King’s Chests were created to appease the demands of those who felt cheated by anet, for buying the keys for the halloween event. The chests opened during the halloween event only drop Mystery Tonics, not named tonics. Hence, why you can’t use named tonics in the recipe. And even if you could, you’d still end up with a bunch of seperately named tonics, thereby running into the same problem.
As I said. I completely understand this. But right now it favors people opening chests after the 25th of Sept (which is ONE MONTH ago) over people opening them earlier…which has nothing to do with Halloween per se. I see that it was kinda needed to increase the value keys had during the event…but this is overshooting it, giving bonuses to everyone but the people playing from the beginning.
You can’t tell me that people who opened chests during end of September/early October have a right to feel cheated while people who opened them earlier don’t.

I got the shield-skin in my very first BLC. Not even in a MKC…I know I was very lucky but that’s not what I’m here to say.
It clearly states MKC are here for “another chance” on one of the skins. They don’t talk about higher drop-rates or anything. Also it is still random as you can see with my example. If you don’t like gambling then don’t open chests…at all. If you look at the prices in the TP then you can see how rare those skins are…and I’m quite happy they are so rare.
Yes, this isolation of story-arcs is likely to lead to contradictions if you don’t pay attention 100% of the time.
I know I can talk easily because I didn’t have the job to put this all together. But honestly I have the right to criticize even though I probably couldn’t do it better on my own. If you could only criticize when you could do it better yourself then this world would have barely improved. Specialization started with the cavemen and if the gatherer would’ve been fine if the hunters came back with barely any flesh every time, just because they couldn’t do it better themselves, then we would be extinct now.
I just really wonder if NOBODY ever realized those logical flaws while playtesting what they created.
I’m not a writer, so I don’t feel comfortable discussing the story and characters. In particular, there’s little value in trying to get into a debate over the story. Honestly, it’s highly subjective, and some folks like it, and some don’t.
wait what
How can “some folks like it and others not”, i.e. a comment on opinion, apply when the OP is about the story failing to follow its own sequence of events correctly, i.e. a failure to align facts?
My words exactly. As I said before I totally like the story despite those flaws (which aren’t only connected to story-writing)
Long term it would be nice if you could split US & EU services completely the way Blizzard do, though I appreciate that might be too much expense and work at the moment.
I also really hope there won’t be time sensitive Halloween events that are on at ridiculous times for EU players because they’re done to suit the US. The beta weekend events ended at 8am on a Monday so most of us were unable to see them.
I certainly hope this won’t happen. In every game that has split services I see the community crying for some connection between the two. Maybe you don’t spend as much time in the Internet as others and don’t have friends all around the globe. If you did you’d be in the situation that you want to be able play with friends from all over the world without having to bring up a huge time or money investment. (2nd char on an US server if you’re from Europe in WoW. Having to play tons of matches in LoL do be competitive with your friends on another server.) Also events are less fun if you don’t have the possibility to be with the first to witness them. If I can’t be the first to witness an event (without having two accounts on two servers) it loses a lot of spice to me.
In GW1 they repeated the major events once every 3 hours for 24 hours. So every region would have them (more or less) simultaneously while still everyone has the chance to catch an event at their time-window. I agree that those 7/8am beta-end events on Monday mornings were horrible for Europeans though.
Just throwing this in here: http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Siege_Turtle
I did play GW1 and in GW1 the Destroyers looked more…unhumanoid than they do in GW2. There are rolling Destroyers and stuff like that. However most GW2-Destroyers look more like actual beings. I like the term “mockeries” for the GW2-Destroyers very much.
This one line of that mentor really sticks in my mind though. She mentions the possible origin of the destroyer-eggs by saying “carrying the eggs prior to their corruption.”
I just looked up the “My Story” tab to see what it says about that misson:
It seems that the destroyer was a unique ceature-a dragon minion that could create offspring. We have to kill that creature before it lays more eggs.
Makes it pretty clear that the “corruption”-theory isn’t likely to be true. I wonder why a member of the Durmand Priory is not aware of such a thing though.
I’m not a writer, so I don’t feel comfortable discussing the story and characters. In particular, there’s little value in trying to get into a debate over the story. Honestly, it’s highly subjective, and some folks like it, and some don’t.
This wasn’t about wether or not I like the story. I actually DO like the story and everything. I also don’t mind Trahearne being pictured as the hero of it all.
I was talking about major flaws in the logic behind how the story puts the different branches together (Which is in my opinion part of game-design as well as story-writing.). Nobody can tell me that it makes sense that I see something happen because of my choice in the past, and then, later on, they tell me something else happened back then.
This just doesn’t make any sense. Same as people randomly treating you like best friends when you see them the first time, just because in another storyline you would’ve met them already.
It’s good to read that the Trahearne-meeting as Sylvari is considered as a bug though. Makes me feel a bit better already.
(edited by Mirodir.1672)
There is a heart, in Lornar’s Pass (near Winterthaw Waypoint) where you’re told that “Primordus shapes them out of rocks/lava.”
However there is a Durmand Priory mission with the Skritt where you stumble upon destroyer-eggs. Your Durmand-mentor (no idea her name) tells you. “Maybe these harpies where carrying the eggs prior to their corruption.”
So at one point you’re told that the Destroyers are made out of inanimate material and at the other point you’re told that they are basically corrupted beings.
Looking at Jormag/Kralkatorrik there are sure ED’s who have the power to corrupt animals/humans. Also Zhaitan’s risen could be seen as corrupted humanoids/animals. But where does Primordus gets his minions from?
And as a bonus question; where did the destroyers come from in GW1?
(edited by Mirodir.1672)
I can already disregard this theory.
Anyone NOT done his personal story yet, please don’t read any further.Putting it between spoiler tags, just in case!
In a personal quest on Orr you have to go to the altar of Grenth and you summon one of the 7 avatars of Grenth. He tells you that the Keeper has fallen to Zhaitan and that Grenth wants him back. Basically this right here tells me that the Human Gods are not the Elder Dragons or dragons however you want to put it.
However I can agree that they look similar though. But there are 6 Human Gods and only 5 Elder Dragons. If they are from the same coin, does this mean there is an unknown 6th Elder dragon as well? This means that the Tengu must know this as well. Or should know it. Unless that Elder dragon is not that old yet.
Am I the only one sane enough to read his “spoiler”? Which is a pretty obvious proof that this theory is with 99% sure NOT correct?
You all just go for “ha, you’re not right, there are 6 dragons, not five, herp-uhkitten” Just read the thing between the spoiler-tags and remember this part of the story yourself (if you chose this branch like I did).
TL;DR in bold on the bottom.
Then the shock.
Two rooms in a row FULL of enemy mobs. We wiped. Multiples times. Usually didn’t kill one single enemy at a try. We were shattered. Then one of us got the great idea to run by. I grabbed my Mass Invisibility and we rushed by. Some died. I unpacked my portal and got them to where my team is. We wiped a few times between the first and second room. Then we made it through the second room full of enemies with the same strategy.Ps. If someone knows a trick how to get past those enemies without exploiting stealth and portals…feel free to tell me.
actually, you can get past them without stealth on asura walking in the right places
We always got spotted when we ran without stealth. Some went through, some died. I had to go back and portal the rest.
We had no Asura in our team though…but I don’t think race matters much.
I know. All I complained about there was the fact that *****ed up turns to “kitten up” instead of “kittened up” and *****ing would turn to “kitten” instead of “kittening”. Keeping the form of the replaced word would help it being read more fluently.
Same with the 1 of a staff-using mesmer.
I only figured out that we have something like a home-instance yesterday, right before creating this thread.
Honestly. I’ve never been in there (Sylvari) and I don’t even know where it is. I suppose it is somewhere in the grove. But I’d rather have my choices to have an impact on the story rather than some weird instance I’m rarely gonna be in. If I think of this game in a month I won’t be thinking “Oh, those changes to my home-instance I picked a month ago are really awesome.” Instead I’ll think: “This story was really kitten up because the choices I’ve made weren’t the ones that AN wanted me to pick/created the rest of the story for, so I had a pretty messed up story at a few points.”
Edit: Why does the f-word change to “kitten” instead of “kitted” when I write “****ed”?
(edited by Mirodir.1672)
The story doesn’t make sense because your choices (when given the choice) does NOT matter and is not ‘recorded’.
They actually have the ability to record your choices. They even did it at two points (at least I realized it at two points). Once at the said point where Trahearne asked me how my journey was so far (my race-choice) and once at the point in Orr where you get separated from the people you’ve been with and the race that you chose to help in your vigil/priory/order storyline comes to help you.
This makes it even more sad to me that AN didn’t keep up with this and threw old friends in our friend, acting like we never met them…and people we’ve never seen before who act as if we were their brothers.

So yes. A pretty bold statement I threw up there…and I certainly don’t think they don’t matter at all…but only so very little that they feel obsolete. I only played through the story once and here’s why I am NOT happy with it (besides the worst end-boss in history of gaming).
TL;DR since lots of you guys get this wrong:
This wasn’t about wether or not I like the story. I actually DO like the story and everything. I also don’t mind Trahearne being pictured as the hero of it all.
I was talking about major flaws in the logic behind how the story puts the different branches together (Which is in my opinion part of game-design as well as story-writing.). This just doesn’t make any sense. Same as people randomly treating you like best friends when you see them the first time, just because in another storyline you would’ve met them already.
When the game started I felt like the choices you made were impactful on the world. I mean, I knew that the persistent world wouldn’t change one bit because of what I would do. But I felt that at least the personal story would change according to my race, my background and my early decisions.
Nope, they don’t. And the dilemma started at the defense of claw island. You’re supposed to meet Trahearne for the first time there, talking to that weird Charr-commander who is completely ignorant, I think you know who I mean. So you meet him for the first time there…wrong I am Sylvari, I met him already in my personal story way earlier.
They did an okay job there, put a dialog where Trahearne recognizes me and asks me how I’ve been; only because I am Sylvari, pretty nice you’d think.
It isn’t.
So after him and I made clear that we already know eachother quite well another dialog starts where he gets introduced to me. Really?
That was so unneeded but it doesn’t interrupt the flow of the story.
The next issue I had when I met this Largos-woman (Sayeh al’ Rehjid or something like that). Trahearne acts like I never met her before. And in fact I DID never meet her before. But she/or even my character insists that we already know eachother. WTF I have no idea who that butterfly is. What is going on? So after using the internet I figured out that she’s featured in some missions I didn’t play because I made choices that did not move me into that branch of the story. Also that weird orb they suddenly started to talk about at some point comes from there.
So I am there and I have NO idea what is going on and everything is weird (people tell me I know her). Just because I didn’t pick the right path. I’m pretty sure that’s not what AN wanted to do.
But wait. The biggest screw-up lies ahead.
So in my early days in the Sylvari-starting zone had to save an Orrian relic-mirror from the Krait. One of the characters got sucked into it and this apparently transported her to Orr. I got to chose how we try to save her. Either I go to Trahearne because he has all knowledge about Orr…or we follow the Asura who has a special device.
I followed the Asura, we saved the Sylvari, everything is cool. So far.
In Orr I have to chose between attacking Zhaitan head-on or trapping him. I chose to trap him and they bring the mirror back into the game to bait him. That’s actually a pretty good idea I thought so I loved the mission…until:
It starts with the two Sylvari from back then getting introduced to me again. Unlike when we had the same issue with Trahearne, this time I didn’t even have another “hey, I know them” scene. They were treated as strangers.
Then they start telling me that one of them got sucked into the mirror once (like in my story) AND THAT TRAHEARNE SAVED HER.
Are you kidding me?
I saw with my VERY OWN EYES that the cool Asura-lady saved her butt back then. Not Trahearne. I played a major role in her saving back then. Not Trahearne.
So ya. I’m pretty sure there are many other places where the story starts to not make any sense anymore or tells you weird stuff. These mess-ups were all from my very own (and first) play-through in the order they happened. And I wonder two things.
The story in the first 20 levels was awesome. Did AN finish the rest under time-pressure or are they unable to do better? Or did they do the ending first and then got better over time?
Did they even play through their story? Somebody MUST have realized that he has never met that weird Largos-Lady before because I’m sure not everybody who playtested went through the same path.
Since a lot of people responding here don’t seem to get this; this is not about the fact that Trahearne steals your story and makes it his own. We already have thousands of threads about that and I’d not make another one

Too easy… compared to what? I’ve played WoW and this is like a sparkling breath of fresh air.
You’re right. It is indeed challenging AND hard compared to most other games. I always played a healer in WoW-dungeons because I felt like this is the only role that really makes and breaks a dungeons. I’ve duo’ed a lot of bosses with my tank-friend alone from 25% down because our other 3 people were too stupid and ran into AoE’s where even the best healer couldn’t save them anymore. Playing tank was also fun, DPS-classes/specs were super boring to me.
This is also a reason why I love gw2. I get to be the healer. I get to be the tank. I get to be the DPS. All at ONCE…and I have to decide in a second if I rather dish out damage, prevent a mate from being hit (tank)/or heal a mate or myself. And every second I have to decide again. If I pick the wrong thing it might cost us the fight and makes us wipe.
That’s how it is supposed to be and how it should be in every good MMO. There can’t be classes that can just sleep on their keyboards without letting their team wipe, even in heroic. (Yes, WoW-DPS’ers, I’m talking to you!)
The game is hard. But I personally wish for even more, almost unbeatable, challenge. The harder the challenge felt the better I feel once I made it through.
I’m probably spoiled because I played Dark Souls for a bit right before GW2 was released.
I completely understand there are people who think dungeons as of now are too hard. And I would appreciate if A-Net would create an easy-mode for them, with less tokens (maybe half). They should be allowed to play the game at their own pace WITHOUT having to miss out all those skins you can only get in dungeons. BUT it should always take less time to farm normal mode (as it is now) dungeons if you’re only in for the tokens.
But if they nerf the dungeons in general I would be VERY unpleased because I like the dungeons as they are now.
If you’re in the middle of a dodge-roll you can’t be hit. If you run out of the AoE sideways/away from the boss you shouldn’t be in trouble either.
Again. Not sure if I am right though.
Í’ve only done storymode AC and i think i found it one of the hardest dungeons i have ever done in any mmorpg. That said tho i think that once i’m higher level and have my traits specced well, explorable should be no problem. People think they can run the dungeon when they are 35.
You realize for AC explorable you’ll always be scaled down to 35 correct?
Yeah you retain your traits but they don’t make that huge of a difference.
I dare you to run AC explorable once with traits and once without.
Come back to the forums when you realize traits to make a huge difference.
Oh my dear f* god.
What on Earth was you OP doing when you created the thread?
Worst. Thread. Ever.
Ever.
I am extremely disgusted and affronted by this abomination that you call a thread.
On a more serious note. You’re right for several reasons.
But there’s a huge thread running in this subforum about the last fight already and there is lots of constructive critisism. This other thread is posted in often and I think you should’ve found it fairly easily if you actually looked at the “dungeons” subforum for more than 10 seconds before creating this thread.
+1
I’d fullquote the OP but I don’t think this would look good.
As far as I have observed this (and this is the hardest boss I’ve faced in there):
The circles mark the AoE of the END of the projectiles the boss (and the adds) fire. Since you can intercept bullets with your body you can also intercept those AoEDoT-inflicting bullets, resulting in getting damaged.
I could be wrong though.
Explorable modes are supposed to be a challenge for experienced groups, and too hard to beat for pugs.
I’ve yet to come across an explorable mode that we didn’t beat THE FIRST TRY. So they fail to live up to the “intended” difficulty standard. On subsequent runs I almost always clear dungeons without a single wipe, this means they’re not really challenging at all.
I feel that GW2 is a tad too easy in general. DE’s, hearts, the personal story AND dungeons all suffer from this.
I have had struggles in CM on that Asura-branch and we were close to giving up when we faced this huge group we bypassed later.
But in overall the game feels a little bit too easy for my taste. But it at least feels challenging when playing explorable’s with PUG’s so I’m fine for now.
repair costs is not even a problem, since each dungeon reward you with 26 silver so everyone can just corpse run all they want.it’s is not exciting or rewarding seeing people play like this.
Die 10 times and you have no profit. Die 11 times and you actually lose money.
Die 12 times and no further death matters anymore since you’re butt-naked?
Honestly. I think they should make all waypoints contested as long as one member of the party is in combat. (or at least, “in combat with a boss”)
I know this would be troublesome with the blossoms in TA but I’m sure they’d find a solution for that.
This way they could place more Waypoints so the actual time of walking to get to places would be reduced but you couldn’t corpse rush anymore.
My dungeon group once found TA to be too difficult with all the volatile blossoms
Don’t remind me.
I always die because of those volatile blossoms. Being a staff-mesmer makes you almost unable to kill those things. Your autoattack misses them a lot (“obstructed” on plain sight my a**) and if you hit they need two hits to go down.
Never forget that they are good when you’re downed though since they go down with one hit of your downed-spells (at least for me) and insta-rally you.
TL;DR in bold on the bottom.
In BWE2 I played AC-Story mode as Guardian. Sure it was fun. Sure it was hard. We all know that.
So after I played my main (Mesmer) up to level 70 on the release-build I decided to visit a dungeon. Since I’ve already played through AC in beta I decided to go the next dungeon level-wise. Caudecus’s Manor (I’m pretty sure I spelled that wrong but I’m too lazy to look it up so I’ll say CM from now on). I picked up a group of 4 other randoms. We finished the dungeon fairly easily. Most of you who have already done CM will know that it is not a very long dungeon.
So we stood there with this “That’s it?” feeling as we all got the (crappy) final reward. Someone had to do something so it was me who asked: “Wanna try explorable mode?”
A bunch of “why not?”s later we went in explorable mode. We picked the Asura-route (I won’t spoiler anything more) and we played. We wiped against bosses. We wiped against normal mobs. But every time we wiped and retried we got better. We got further. And bosses went down. We learned to play together and against specific threats.
Then we made it through the second room full of enemies with the same strategy.
Endboss. We wiped. Back to waypoint in front of the rooms of death. This time I ran by the enemies alone (with a swiftness from one of the Warriors and my invis) and portaled my whole team after me. I felt so great not only being useful but CRUCIAL to the success of the mission. I have literally NO idea how else we could’ve passed those groups. Maybe there’s a trick to it we didn’t discover so for our team it was crucial.
Then the endboss…again. I wrote down what I’ve observed the first time. Told me team what I think we can do to avoid the same fate. Then we went for it. We all knew. Who is DEAD can’t recover and run all the way from the waypoint because there are large groups mobs between us and there. Some of us died (when I say dead I mean dead…not downed). The boss had even more attacks than I prepared my team for. We didn’t only manage to overcome those threats without being prepared for them, we also managed to do full rezzes (from death, not from downed) in the middle of a kinda hard bossfight.
I don’t CARE what loot I got from this boos. What the dungeon-reward was. I don’t care how much I’ve spend to repair my armor. I’ve had SO much fun playing this and overcoming our weaknesses. Figuring out what to do…as a TEAM.
I’ve also done some TA runs since then and I finished the dungeon at the end of the personal story. But this experience I had in CM is something I will never forget. So much fun, so much thinking.
So please. Don’t make any dungeons easier. I know it’s hard to beat the explorable mode of some dungeons with a group of players you don’t know (I think TA in exp. is too easy after the first boss, I’ve only played the upper route though). But trust me. As long as they are smarter than a piece of toast you will have fun. And isn’t it either fun or challenge the thing we strive for when we game? Dungeons provided me with both.
Ps. If someone knows a trick how to get past those enemies without exploiting stealth and portals…feel free to tell me.

GuildMag: In a previous interview that we did with Colin Johanson he mentioned that you were able to tell us more about the Dominion of Winds as seen on the map that went with Ghosts of Ascalon. Even though it will not be accessible from the start, can you tell us what’s so special about this landmark?
Jeff Grubb: Two words – Tengu City.
So the DoW will be the city and not this open spot west of LA. Also this “Two words – Tengu City” referred to the Dominion and not the Wizard’s Tower.
I would like to see Tengu as a playable race but I wouldn’t be mad at Arena Net if they didn’t turn them into a playable race. I’m not THIS huge of a Tengu fan.
