UPDATE: One of our party members had dc’d during the first airship phases. When he dc’d again, the dragon’s hp stopped resetting and we were able to kill him finally.

Weird bug.

Arah Story Bugged: Dragons Resetting

We’re on the ship after defeating the Mouth of Zhaitan, and have been battling the dragons with the cannons perfectly.

We killed Fafnarin the Heartslayer, but every time we damage Horrogos the Soulbreaker, his health resets back to full before his next pass at the airship.

Mishla.9742

I joined Vanguard Gaming in Feb of 2011, admittedly to run with 2 friends of mine who were already members.

In an ironic twist of fate, both friends quit the game not two weeks after I server transferred, leaving me on a strange server with a guild I barely new.

HOWEVER, by that point I was so hooked on the amazing mojo the guild had doing — no drama, respect, honor, camaraderie, and a sense of family — that I never even considered going elsewhere.

Fast forward to almost 2 years later, and the guild that I joined on a whim, a last desperate attempt to enjoy the game I was playing, has become my family.

I couldn’t imagine being anywhere else at this point! If you’re a mature player who’s looking for a good group, with like-minded individuals that understand the meaning of the phrase “competitive sportsmanship”, look no further.

Is WvW even worth it at lower levels?

in WvW

My advise is this:

  • Adjust your traits and slot skills for more survivability, especially until you get used to how the ebb and flow of WvW works
  • Find a group of people to run around with. They can be friends, random people you meet, or the big zerg.
  • Watch how other players respond to getting attacked. Don’t blow your second dodge roll too early — the first one is fine, but save your second one for that “oh crap!” moment
  • As a ranger, you have excellent range with a Longbow, or good range with a Shortbow. Find one of your structures that’s getting attacked and play some defense. If you AoE everyone, and only do 300 damage total to each person, you still get full XP when they die.

I can’t really speak to your build, as I haven’t played a ranger personally. Don’t worry about the super-tweaked level 80 specialty builds. Just play what you think is fun, but semi-tailored to the WvW playstyle.

Tower Defense Discussion

Tower Capture & Defense: Is it Worth It?

I’d like to discuss this from the point of view of the attacking force, operating on a Borderland not your own.

Discussion, criticism, and debate encouraged. Trolling & flames are not — we’re all grown adults here. Stay classy, please.

We’ve all participated in multiple tower captures by this point. You rush in, get your rams down, maybe a catapault or two on a wall, and some arrow carts or a ballista for counter-siege.

The door goes down, any defenders are wiped, and the Tower NPC dies. Yay! You win!

What’s next?

Do you hold the tower, hoping for attackers to come?
Do you quickly build a treb on the roof and start trebbing the Garrison walls?
Do you even bother to upgrade the tower?

All of those questions vary depending on the circumstances — ask yourself these questions:

Do we have the numbers to hold this tower against a significant (20+) enemy force?
Do we have a supply camp running dolyak’s and feeding supply to the tower?
If not, is it possible to take (and hold!) the neccessary supply camps?

NOTE: The western tower (ie, Longview) is only fed by the Northern Supply Camp. This is notoriously hard to hold as an attacking force, and requires a significant occupying force due to the fast respawn of the defending server.

After taking Longview last night, then spending an hour running supply back and forth from Arah’s in order to blockade run the defending server’s forces and keep the tower, here are my thoughts:

- Towers are good for short term defense as map changers and distraction tactics.
Example: last night we were able to occupy almost the entirety of the defending server’s forces for a good 60 minutes, allowing our other forces to push on the Garrison.

- Towers are good for temporary safe siege on the Garrison, working as a staging point for an eventual attack.

- Towers, especially when not upgraded, are too easy to flip. 10 people can flip a tower in 5 minutes or less.

- Because of this, towers require almost constant guarding, which is costly in terms of limited server manpower.

- Towers are hard to supply, especially when they are only fed from one (hard to control) Supply Camp. It costs yet more manpower to control the supply camp necessary to feed the tower so that you can hold it for long term.

In Conclusion:
I view towers as an excellent short-term distraction that are useful as a side project or staging step to your ultimate goal. Once that goal is achieved, however, it is not worth wasting the supply or manpower to hold the tower against a focused assault.

Discuss.

Maguuma, Tarnished Coast, Listen Up!

Mishla,

We didnt start this thread. Your entire point about paranoia is a little silly, considering.

I don’t care who started the thread — the whole thing is silly. My point about paranoia was directed to the folks on TC just as much as the other two servers.

The truth is, despite this wretched hive of scum and villany, not everyone here is out to cause drama and point fingers.

To go along with what Fel said:

Friday night, first night of the match-up. TC has Dreaming Bay with an Orb parked there. For 3+ hours, we defended that keep with both Magumma and Ehmry Bay hitting it at the same time.

I mean that literally, Ehmry Bay was hitting the north gates (outer, then inner), while Magumma was hitting the southern gates, with TC running back and forth trying to to defend what we could.

Eventually, gates were down on both sides and it became a 3-way Brawl-For-It-All on the Control Pad. The Orb is ninja’d and long gone, but everyone is still fighting. TC is wiped, EB and Maguuma start to duke it out. The Keep Lord is revived, killed again, and still all 3 factions are fighting. Eventually, Maguuma won and everyone moved on.

You want proof that there’s no long-term Alliances? There it is. That was a true No-Holds-Barred 3-way brawl.

NOTE: Just because there’s no alliances doesn’t mean you can’t make a strategic decision to avoid one faction’s forces temporarily. If you’re pushing hard against EB at the Western Keep and come across 5-6 Maguuma while running back from spawn, the strategically sound decision is to avoid them, or let them go as part of the big picture.

Don’t let paranoia make you see alliances everywhere they’re not. Most of the time, it’s just plain sense.
