Shinsengumi Shinigami [SSG] was created in the early beta stages of Guild Wars 2. We strive for excellence in both PvE and PvP challenges while fostering an atmosphere of friendship, camaraderie, and combined purpose within our guild community. We are not a large guild; above all else we are a group of friends, like-minded gamers, and MMO enthusiasts.
We have seen guilds rise and fall in the GW2 community since launch. A portion of our success derives itself from a set of core values and laws that govern the guild. As with any successful guild, member participation is key. Here are some of our core guild goals, rules, policies and the like that prospective members should know before joining:
Mission Statement
Shinsengumi Shinigami is an open concept guild. We are not elitist and nor are we exclusionary. Our main focus is to provide players with a good atmosphere to enjoy the game in and cooperate together as a team to level up and get the best gear for PvP/PVE. [SSG] works with the members it has available online for our events using an organic approach to game-play.
You are expected to take initiative to make groups based on your needs. And you are expected to answer questions and be helpful when possible. We expect people to participate with us on raid / Guild mission days if they are playing. We have always had one of the most active groups on our server. It is not possible to play an MMO totally alone unless you skip content or PuG.
A guild is only as good as its members, if you sit back and do nothing or say nothing you will indeed feel left out. A community is built on trust, a mature social attitude and being generous.
Large groups of people must avoid gossip, drama, anger and selfish attitudes, and above and beyond all be thankful for the hard work of the leadership for recruiting, providing ts3, a website and an active place to play. The downfall of a guild is based on a lack of respect for its creation and we will not tolerate any swaying of the open guild concept.
In other words, if you think that playing an MMO is a great accomplishment, believe that you are better than others because of your rank or are a person who imagines that elitism is the way to be, you will in fact not like it here. This is a community aimed at civility, friendship and a calm and relaxed manner of game-play. If you have no sense of humor or are a puritan – you will not like it here either.
Egoism is the failure of all groups. Let yours go and you will have a great time killing, stabbing, murdering, drowning, burning and indeed beating the opposition – level up! Gear up! Group up and move as “ONE."
Our Tenets
Core rules
[SSG] only accepts members into its ranks that are of similar personalities, goals and values to its own. All of our members support and follow our core guild rules and anyone who cannot, is removed. Our core rules and values have served us well since early 2008 and continue to be the guiding principles behind moving the guild forward. Our core rules include, but are not limited to:
Guild First: We expect all members to ensure that all actions they take are done in the mindset of ‘guild first’. Anything a member does reflects on the overall guild image and on all fellow members. We expect members to only take actions that reflect positively on the guild image that we have worked very hard to build and maintain over the years.
We recruit the PERSON not the TOON. We look for good PEOPLE not only a toon that meets a specific set of requirements. As such members of [ssg] are required to meet our standard of 60% rep. Membership in another guild, is permitted with some caveats (ex: you could not be in a guild that was a cheater/exploiter guild, to uphold our high values in that area.)
It is not permitted to relay any information outside the guild, for any reason, at any time. The [SSG] is a private gaming organization. Therefore no member should reveal any information, no matter how minor they may think it is, outside the guild. In layman’s terms we do not need to air our dirty laundry to others!!
Participation In Guild Events. Hunts, Raids, Events and other in game activities occur all the time. Try to take place in as many of them as possible. We understand people have lives and cannot live within the online world and that is ok. But if you are online, and we are having a guild event of some sort, you are strongly encouraged to join us. Actively working against the guild on any mission will result in immediate and permanent removal.
Leadership roles in [SSG] are decided based on demonstrated ability as well as the need for a leader in a particular spot. You can be assured that your leaders are working hard to make the game more fun for you. While the reason behind every decision may not always be apparent at the moment an order is issued, all orders from officers need to be immediately followed. If errors are made, they should be reported to leaders where they will be dealt with and, if needed, changes made to the officer team. Absent those changes, all officers should be listened to as though it was leaders issuing the order.
We are a TEAM of FRIENDS. Backing up your guildmates is expected because they will do the same for you. [SSG] members understand that sometimes personal character sacrifice is needed for the team to complete a mission. We don’t view it as personal sacrifice, however, because we are helping out a friend and that is more important than loot or pixels on a screen. Games come and go. [SSG] and the friendships within it, remain.
Dead weight is not needed in the guild. Failure to maintain an acceptable level of activity will result in your removal. We do have an “inactive” status for members who are retired from games we play and wish to join us in future games. feel free to email the Guildmaster and their officers to keep them informed of your progress and any issues, ideas, feedback etc.. that you have. Simply vanishing off the face of the earth without any email indicating you wish to go to inactive status is taken as a sign you have quit the guild and membership is removed. Members who cannot follow core rules and standards are removed from the guild.
Standards Of Conduct
This is what we expect from every one individually:
Individual Excellence
Be prepared, knowledgeable, and capable. Each [SSG] member should easily adapt to a variety of in-game scenarios. Our members should exemplify proficient gameplay; mastering not only of their preferred role, but possessing the versatility to fill multiple positions within a group. Optimize your character. It is the responsibility of every member to perfect his or her gear and build, quickly adapting to new patch cycles and meta-trends. Tho we understand some people do not wish to run meta builds please note, not everyone wants to be stuck in a dungeon for any longer than they have to be. Be reliable. Our members are required maintain a high level of attendance to scheduled guild events, arriving prepared with consumables, supplies, and a variety of equipment sets.
Social Involvement
Be socially active. [SSG] places a critical value on sustaining a tight-knit community; social engagement is of paramount importance. We expect all our members to actively participate in TeamSpeak, regardless of the game they are playing. Voice chat is crucial both for communication and because we believe that friendship is the backbone of a successful guild. Play with guildies. We want our members to actively seek opportunities for multi-player gaming, even if it is not guild wars 2 related. Play games, group up, and get involved with other guild members whenever possible.
Community Contribution
Contribute to [SSG]. The central vision of [SSG] is to create a valuable resource for theorycrafting, strategies, mechanics discussions, consumables for guild bank, and guides for the [SSG] community. We expect our members to further these goals by sharing their insights for optimizing gameplay experience with the website community. We hope Shinsengumi shinigami guild members will be proud of our success both in-game and on the website. Every active member of [SSG] is expected to be a participant on the website forums with further responsibilities required of core raiders and officers.
Positive Attitude
Act with maturity. We thrive on competition, but within [ssg] we maintain an atmosphere of mutual respect. As [SSG] we are ambassadors within the GW2 community. Malicious trolling, baiting, trash talking, or flaming are not permitted in-game or on any public forum. We generally require applicants to be 18 years or older in order to be eligible for membership.
Those without thick skin need not apply. We achieve a delicate balance between a casual fun-loving atmosphere and determination for in-game success. Each member of [SSG] is pushed to become a better player by his or her peers. We love jokes, banter, and general shenanigans; often at each other’s expense. We are not a family oriented guild, and we are not responsible for your hurt feelings.
Abide by the decisions of guild leadership. Our leaders and officers are veteran MMO gamers, and we are familiar with the issues that accompany leading a high-powered guild. We understand the need to manage people, not just roster slots. We are open to feedback from our members, but there is a time and place for such discussions. Whining, arguing, or causing a scene in the middle of a scheduled guild event is not tolerated.
Have fun. We are a serious guild, but don’t forget that we play Guild wars 2 because we love MMOs, and we love guild wars. If you’re not having fun, you’re doing it wrong.
