That is a pretty standard Heal Bomb build yes, so in regards to the stun breaker; probably don’t even need to bother to be honest. If you’re building a lot of vitality and healing power you should be able to tank any damage you take while stunned.
Not sure if you’ve locked yourself into that build or not (it’s a fine build either way) but if not look at taking 10 out of explosives and put them into alchemy; not for cleansing formula but to get the HGH trait (all you need is the larger radius in explosives).
I’ve had plenty of success with what I use as my tanky build:

Main Points:
- It focuses on the Shamans gear which tends to be a fairly cheap buy through the trading post and will still out put a ton of damage to others (it’s a horrible 1v1 build though). Shamans gear has no ascended options and only rare crests for jewels so it isn’t a harsh investment when min/maxing compared to other builds
- You can reach about 30k health depending on what runes you go for, it has about 1k healing power as well as getting some really nice condition and power through the might stacks.
- You can use rifle with it as well if you want, I mainly use either p/p, p/s just for two sigils and stick to bomb kit.
- There isn’t really a need for condition removals as you can simply out heal high bleed stacks.
- You can effectively run Elixir X; charging into battles with the giants 3 skill and going on knockdown rampages with tornado. You have a massive health pool and you can always exit and heal if you start going down. It is great for escaping if your Shrink is on cool down as well.
- you can vary it a lot and still be effective, I switch to my condi set often and just use the healing bombs as a bonus.
Its up to you, the build you have will do fine without a stunbreaker but I’ve found it can get boring and annoying as you really can’t do too much damage and support is sort of meh in a world of siege and outnumbered. You’ll be doing more for your world if you can charge a zerg and not worry about being targeted – healing those who follow and provide easy pickings for the glass cannons pewpewing up back.
Either way Good Luck playing a heavy engie
The ones tat have played it decided being all you can be is not important they just want to pew pew with two guns!
yep, My Engineer does everything, I just want some fun builds that pew pew all day. My warrior didn’t prove much with rifle so I thought thief could just unload forever and it would be glorious.
I swapped the 20 in acrobatics to dark arts, seems pretty good, only reason I had vitality is because everyone seems to be running condition builds at the mo, and if I’m just going to be a scumbag and an annoyance I may as well have some extra survivability.
are traps or venoms any good? thinking I could get some condi damage for no reason…
I’m pretty new to thief but understand most of their mechanics, and I’m looking for a P/P build that uses Unload as an auto-attack, I can use for harassment in PvP and use in general as I level. From what I can tell I need to get a lot of initiative regeneration going but I’m unsure of what gear I should go for.
The current build I came up is 0,20,0,20,30 just as it seems to get infinite unload capabilities.
DA: 0

Acr: 20 III, IX
Trix: 30 IV, X, XI
I’ve got Withdraw as my heal, Roll for initiative, Inf signet and blinding powder and have been using S of energy/D of precision as an evasive backup in fights and Hydro/blood sigils on my pistols.
I really don’t know what gear I should use, I’ve been using knights a lot in PvP, but anything seems to work about the same.
I’d like to know if there are more refined p/p builds that focus on initiative; noting that I don’t care if it isn’t the most effective way to play thief. Otherwise, is there a better way to have lots of constant initiative?
To be honest, this song was the only reason I got this game. I would tell people to trust me for the first few months in wvw; I guess no one heard the song yet ):
Lame, that was the only fun thing about turrets. Can’t be all throwing turrets on walls now for defence ):

~13s stealth on a smaller cool-down then a thief’s shadow refuge (can get it down to 25s). Can switch out rocket boots for elixir gun and use acid bomb instead, but I like having a stun breaker on for most things. It’s nice for skipping mobs in dungeons when needed.
The skills are all pretty good, and have decent survivability. Works nice with my tanky condition pistol build as you can sneak right in the middle of enemies and spam bombs all day, and if you get notice just shield up and run away. Sure I’m not quite a thief but I have scared many souls in PvP with suddenly mines and explosions, the detonate mine field is surprisingly bursty too. You don’t have to play condition, I sometimes switch to gc and whip out grenades when I’m still stealthed to deal some nice burst damage.
You can also use the same blast finisher rotation on the fire bomb for loads of might.
Telstra DNS is kitten atm so just use googles public
8.8.8.8 – 8.8.4.4
If any of you were in flood affected regions of QLD and are on Telstra/Bigpond try configuring your settings to use Googles public DNS https://developers.google.com/speed/public-dns/docs/using
- It worked for me

Yeup, same issue here coming from QLD. Thought I was doing something wrong but I was playing fine when capped last night; guess we just gotta wait it out…
Had a lot of fun tonight, spamming supply crates and net shots, the group I played with did pretty well against zergs that came our way and we all had a blast as we knew what each other could do. Look forward to the next engie partae!
Im in, send me an invite!
I’m a FA’er as well
I don’t see that it is a major problem at all, in fact I’ve been making builds just to bother the roamers. It’s so delightful to see a group of about ten start chasing you down after dancing behind them when they are taking a keep/tower/camp. You can run them half way across the map: as a ‘free’ kill is such a noob magnet to a lot of people – and after not getting hit you just port back; successfully wasting a medium size groups time and hindering the rest of that server to take whatever they were attacking faster.
I’ve also used this in the hiding spots around the map (supply camps cough) where you just lie down; for example in the tower in the BL north west camp while a team is capping; and port just when they find me out; usually allowing my team to storm down and deny the cap.
- War tactics; don’t like it? have a sad face: )=
The only thing I’m not OK with is when it’s a 1v1 situation and someone ports or logs when within your range.
I completely skipped the throw mine in my head, and I’ve gone and replaced my see turret with it (the knock back can be applied even more compared to the bolas’s cool down being 60s or something). The throw ten mines are also pretty funny to use, making the enemy more aware where they are stepping – losing concentration on me.
About the exploit weakness trait; I randomly had Enhance Performance (I don’t know why) so hooray for added annoyance, thanks Grackleflint xD
I’m not sure about mines however; I know the Big ol Bomb has awesome knock down and damage, but I can’t decide whether it is better than throw mine (right know slick shoes and net turret are my life savers, they might change in the future but not right now).
I also have been considering the thumper turret, with turrets being quite a noob magnet and having acceleration-packed turrets adds another dimension to it’s knock-down. Sadly the shock wave doesn’t have knock back/down, so still a hard decision between thumper, throw mine or the bomb kit right now.
As for the tool kit, I know that the magnet has a pull effect, but the range seems hard to work with so it tends to miss a lot; wasting time when the enemy could be chilling on the ground. I will experiment with it a bit more.
One last thing is with the deployable turret trait; does it even work? I assumed it made my turrets throw-able which I could have used with the net turret when pesky rascals tried to escape… but it doesn’t seem to do anything … at all.
I’ve been trying a few new builds or concepts with my Engie lately, especially in terms of wvw; and I’ve been trying to come up with a build that doesn’t dominate players or grant me much advantage; but putting it simply, I want to annoy all the things.
Currently I’ve been going with a sort of immobility build I guess, using;
- net shot
- net attack
- net turret
- supply drop (another net turret)
- The Sylvari seed turret (the bolas is epic)
- and Slick Shoes.
Along with all the associated traits like
- go for the eyes
- knee shot
- Accelerant-Packed turrets
- and a few self stun protections for when I come across reflect shields and such
With this I can generally annoy a group of up to 5 for about 20s before running away (as my skills have been used) and its cool being able to knock-down and immobilise an enemy while the rest of my party picks away at the poor soul, but I feel like I’m lacking something.
Iv’e also been trying to play as a medic in another build using healing bombs and healing armor/runes; but I’m still developing that.
Any thoughts on how to add to this sort of build? or is there another way/ another ability I should be using?
