I think the point they were making was this…

If you compare the effectiveness of the skill to other skills of other classes, the amount of times you can use it vs how effective the damage is, there does seem to be some imbalance there. Yes, the skill has some other odd behavior with terrain, but with a 2s cool down it can hit people for 7-9k twice in the time it takes for a guardian to hit people once for 5-6k with hammer 2.

The point they were making is that it is a tad bit out of line with other abilities given to other classes.

Then increase the cool down to 4 seconds

The skill will still have big payoff since it is harder to land than some other skills but it wont allow you to hit nearly 10k on glassy targets on a 2 second recharge either.

Now they did buff the damage on it already once because of complaints that it didnt hit hard enough. I’m going to reference Goldilocks theory here and apply it to gw2, we have our 2 extremes that have been tested. Now we know which one is just right.

Just to clear up a few points I have seen regarding GvG in 15v or 20v format.

1. It takes no skill to GvG.
In pvp, the communication between 5 people is less chaotic than in higher number fights. If you think it’s hard to sync up 5 players, just imagine 20. The sync between 20 people is a very hard thing to pull off. Each person has a specific job to do and they need to all play off the other 19 people in the gvg. So less individual skill…sure, maybe. But the teamwork aspect is much more developed and important. Three people wont carry a whole 20 man team to victory.

2. GvGs are no fun to watch.
That’s just personal opinion. If you don’t know all the loops and plays of a gvg it is much less interesting to watch, much like any sport. Maybe you do know and just have no interest, well that’s fine.

3. GvGs are too big for an E-Sport
Maybe they are too big for what we perceive as an “E-Sport” because the cost of Anet to fly 40 people out for a tourny is too high. That’s fine. However, that doesn’t mean that they have to actually do that. Nothing is wrong with them keeping it within the game. I, for one am fine with only in-game recognition for winning. I wouldn’t play if I didn’t think it was fun.

Please keep it constructive guys. Bashing each other can be left to the unofficial forums, where it belongs instead of cluttering a constructive post.

If you think I shouldn’t like GvGs then convince me with evidence.

I’m sure some sort of reimbursement could be possible for spending development hours on this project. I, for one, would happily buy into a gvg tournament via gems or something of the like. let’s say 100 gems per person per team? That’s 4000 gems per 20v20 gvg and 3000 gems per 15v15. How much does it cost each person? A mere 100 gems. Winner takes back 150% of their invested gems, leaving Anet with 25% cut on every official GvG played on their map. That is a 1000 (For 20v20) gem cut on every official gvg that takes place. All that is left is a small amount of Anet oversight for an official ranking board. Not bad…

While this is a rather crude business model, it could very well prove worth the effort. As long as the game receives updates to its combat and proper balance patches (Which happen regardless) there is nothing keeping players, like the many who have voiced their approval here, from buying into the game mode.

For big tournaments, you could even have a five dollar buy-in. In a game mode this big that is $100 for a whole 20v20 roster. At the end, a bit is refunded to the winner via extra gems / cool weapon or armor skins or even a big gold trophy in the PvP lobby like in GW1

You guys have one of the best combat systems in the MMO industry, EVER. Please don’t waste the incredible chance you have to build a lasting PvP/WvW legacy in the industry.

Make it work, proper resource management and all and I see no reason for anyone to complain. I only complain because I see the Enormous amount of potential the game has being thrown out the window.

The sooner you guys realize that the game style you developed on your free time, is actually worth putting development funds into the better.

The point basically is that You have made one of the aspects of your game nearly unplayable. There are 3 sections to the game as stated before, WvW, PvE, and PvP.

Currently the change made to the servers is making two of those aspects more smooth at the cost of making WvW a laggy mess. That is if I have correctly interpreted the description given to me.

This doesn’t mean that WvW is unplayable, it just means that the experience of the game-play is lowered significantly in value. Before the change to the servers I had little to no issues with lag in PvE, but that’s beside the point.

An extensive game mode like WvW is, and SHOULD, be expected to tie up more resources. So if you had chosen to make this game mode playable it should have been expected to use more resources and those resources should have been made available.

It sounds like you didn’t expect WvW to take more resources so now you are essentially gimping the game mode by keeping it from using extra resources.

Almost done…

It has been made clear to me since the beginning of the game, that WvW has been subject to a serious state of neglect. Now, because you didn’t account for the amount of resources that WvW would tie up, you are forced to even further neglect the game style. So, after all this is said, How long until you remove WvW from the game completely?

By my calculations, since the first major WvW update (Culling Removal), WvW has seen a steady decline in Development focus until we arrive at its present state.

Please notify me in advance before you remove it, due to it interfering with PvE content, so I can move onto other games. I’m a bit tired of being led around by a “Hope” that things will be improved.

So with the T2 NA scene taking another nose dive there were some people that wanted to try making a T1 Bag farming / UD farming guild. Well, here it is.

What we do…

Looking to run anywhere from 25-40 people we will basically be hunting down and killing the huge T1 blobs for fun.

Quick facts…

There is no Rep requirement. I don’t care if you are in 3 other guilds or not. If you want to raid once a week with us on an alt go right ahead.

We do value skilled play and ask that you at least can keep up and not die all the time, Not asking you to be Total Esports, just don’t rally bot a lot.

We are on Blackgate, if you are not on BG and want to join wsp me or mail me and I can help you out with transfer tips.

I can agree. The skill lag has been enormous. I actually have been finding excuses to play other games because of this as well. While I can understand that it may be bearable for some people, it is not for me. The skill delay as said before makes the game borderline unplayable.

Now some people have brought up that Anet is too worried about the expansion to fix anything regarding current issues, especially ones that deal with WvW. I think at this point the ones complaining are only trying to help make sure that the issue is noticed and therefor, it can be fixed. I really like this game but me and many others will not be playing while the lag remains as bad as it is. I have my ideas of what might cause it but that is Anet’s job, and that is why we buy gems to support them.

We aren’t asking for an immediate fix as we understand the need to deliver on the X-Pack promise, only someone to acknowledge that this is an issue and that it will be worked on in the near future.

None of you guys need to complain about the other being stacked because all of you guys are stacked and as long as people continue the T1 rush for shinies you will all remain stacked and the reason you blob is because you need to blob because the other people you fight blob (aka other T1). With the amount of guilds you have it would now be very hard to not blob. The easiest way to win WvW is to blob and you all know that, which is why it is done. However, those who enjoy the challenge of fighting outnumbered, would never be caught dead being in tier one other than to take advantage of the frequency that you blob and blob-bust it.

Point is…
Those that are in tier one all want to win no matter the way it is achieved (in this case the easy-fix method of recruiting people till the server overflows with guilds)

Some blob-busting guilds that enjoy fighting 1-4 odds (unless they themselves field 60 people which is often the case)

Tier 1 = Karma trains, PPT players, Want to win, very few blob busting guilds.

Personally Tier 1 servers should just be given their own WvW meta and let the other servers play between themselves that way those that want to blob and win can blob and win and everyone else can play a more European WvW style.

The lower tier fractals are pretty easy to do. I don’t think I have ever had issue trying to complete them (granted I don’t have your condition and have no idea what it is like) but if you can find some guildies or some friends to do them with that would be optimal. Most of the fractals are pretty easy if you have base knowledge of the mechanics so do a little research before going in or run it with people who know what to do.

Warning to any guilds wanting to GVG TC guilds [EXS] and [ROT], from watching them GVG a BG guild (not mine) they only fight if they have double the numbers. Also if your’re watching GVG (even if you’re on the hill and not attacking) [EXS] will mass attack ppl watching, during the GVG or after it….

And..that only happens after the fight is done and can be easily avoided as it was tonight. Yet another example of a very nice set of GvGs.

Who wants to stay up late tonight and give us guild group fights? Tired of fighting 80 man timid blobs. Although, it is fun when we catch you off guard inside a tower or something. Tried to get a fight at a tower last night but you all just left and never came back =/ although I guess “Avoiding the enemy” is a legitimate PPT strategy. I’m guessing that those are just your Karma train zergs, which would explain their behavior.

Armor/Weapon confliction

I just thought I should bring to attention one of the armor bugs with The Juggernaut.

When the juggernaut is pulled out (in combat) its effect over-rides the radiant gauntlet skin and it removes the character’s hands (Invisible) only leaving the light effect.

Anyone else noticed this?

A little bit about me to start off…
I am a WvW enthusiast with a special interest in open field combat and GvG. I have analysed many of the top tier guilds’ tactics and keep a very close eye on the WvW meta. My home server is Tarnished Coast but I have transferred in the past to help friends of mine build WvW spec groups, of which they have seen great success with. I have been playing WvW for a very long time now and take pride in my knowledge and skill as a player.

Enough about me…On to the topic.

Hello, this is Castiel, a long term WvWer and and GvGer. With the latest developments in WvW I feel there is no longer a reason for me to keep these things a secret. More specifically, the tactics and skills used to destroy zergs in the open field in WvW.

If you are part of a guild that has an interest in being a good zerg busting group, but might not know all the tricks of the trade, look no further. Using group tactics such as the “Resolve and Charge” maneuver, or the “GvG Pit-stop” can greatly increase your success as a guild group, as well as crucial skill timing and good skill combos.
Also, if you are a player that doesn’t run with a guild group but wants to know what benefits a zerg the most in WvW situations feel free to PM/Mail me questions.

Now for guilds…If you are a newer WvW guild or one that is new to open field fighting I am more than willing to set up workshops with you where you can freely ask me questions of any kind regarding WvW. I have my own TS3 where I can host these events and the info will only be given out after we agree on a time. I don’t care who you are or what server you are from, all info I give out is the same (No server discrimination).

If you want to set up a workshop, please Mail Me (In-Game) a request and I will reply with possible dates and times.

If you just want to ask me a few questions, PM me in-game or mail me in-game, either is fine but please specify that you want to ask me questions so I don’t get confused.

Disclaimer- This advice is for those that want to succeed and appreciate the input given. I am not here to argue about tactics, only share them. No private guild tactics are being shared, only tactics that can be seen from studying any WvW/GvG videos that are posted publicly and tactics that I have personally gained from experience.

Apologies for the TC server blobs, the fair weathers are out in force for their free world completion and karma =/. If We had any say in what people did in WvW it wouldn’t really be that way. I personally hate blobbing. The 20-25 man fights are where the fun is at if you ask me.

The blobs you see here don’t come out when there is a really tough fight on our hands (Tier 1)

Let’s just quit bashing each other and leave it at this…“The TC fair weather blobs force FA and CD to blob in return in order to kill the TC blob” Blob blob blob blob blob.

I know our guild will be looking for those 20-25 man fights and ignoring the server blob, hope you guys will as well.

Sounds like you were following an inexperienced commander that didn’t know what to do or have the confidence to execute something like what you are describing. Needless to say there are plenty of commanders in TC that know what they are doing. Don’t blanket all of TC based off of one inexperienced commander. Everything rises and falls on leadership (Like Bay) that commander could end up being a very successful commander in the future and helping them to be one is of the utmost importance far above anything else. TC is far from the garbage you make it out to be and we didn’t make it to rank 4 overnight.

Hazing a commander is the worst possible thing you can do and while people do it that commander receives zero positive feedback making absolutely sure that they learn little to nothing.

Your right and I apologize to the other commanders, I shouldn’t have made a blanket statement. And the commander prior to the bay attack was doing well, it’s just frustrating when you try to help them and get ignored.

Being a commander myself, it is very difficult to manage the massive amount of information being relayed to you. It is quite possible that the commander simply did not notice your message and may not have intentionally ignored you at all.

Here is a rundown of the classes and what they do best and what they do not so well.

Elementalist – Versatile, can heal, can do heavy damage. Fast play with many key clicks, can be tanky. Does not remove enemy boons but gives out many boons.

Thief- Heavy single target burst damage, can remove boons, fast play style. Does not tank well or remove a lot of conditions. Does good condition damage, stealths self and allies. Minimal group support.

Mesmer – Good burst damage, condition damage is ok but was nerfed. Good cc and group utility. Stealths self and allies. Fast play style, steals boons and makes clones of itself. Does not tank well. Little group healing

Warrior – Heavy burst damage. Very tanky. Slower play compared to ele and thief. Heavy cc dealt. Condition damage is minimal. lacks some condition removal and group healing.

Guardian – Lower avg damage. Super super tanky with good group heals. removes conditions well, ok condition damage. slower avg play style. Good cc and mob control.

Necromancer – Pretty tanky. Best condition damage in game. boon corruption and condition removal. Less group support. Slower play style compared to ele.

Engineer – Multi-versatile class, higher learning curve, fast play style, can be tanky-ish, good heals and condition damage, average damage dealer.

Ranger – good single target dps, ok group healing. Good condition damage and some good burst dps. Range class but some good melee. Less tanky. Slower play style. Good aoe.

Hello, I was curious to see if anyone has figured out how do chat links like [Eternity] but have it say something like [chatlinksftw] and still appear to be eternity in item picture but not in item name.

It would be like making up a new item name in the chat link in order to make it look like a random message in the form of a linkable item.

For instance… the chat would appear to be a link to an item in chat (like someone linking a legendary weapon) but the name would appear to be this [chatlinksftw].

I would think this would include altering an item’s unique hexidecimal code in order to alter its name but not the way it presents itself in the chat box.

I would really appreciate any help in this matter if you can offer it. Thank You.

Good Lord Maguuma, and you say we zerg. It’s like you brought your whole server to protect SoS on SoSbl. I’m loving every second of this, even if we don’t have anywhere near the numbers. So much fun.

Tarnished Coast learned more about WvW tactics while getting rolled by SoR and BG than we did at any other time. Use these chances to look at the things that each server does and learn from them.
