As the previous poster said some of our combo fields are reliant on use having that weapon out and using just that skill. This makes self combo’s more difficult for us but still possible especially with symbols and consecrations.
Love the list and agree with all of them even if i haven’t encountered them all myself. The lack of scaling for some traits leaves much to be desired.
- Strength in numbers: +30 toughness to you and your allies
- 30 toughness is worthless once you are 80 in full exotics. Why waste and entire trait on providing such minimal protection.
- This trait should scale with lvl or with the guardians own toughness giving a % the guardians owns toughness to allies. Flat rate values become lack luster at max level.
So this is the set up I run. I swap out the scepter for the mace sometimes for some added support. I run this build in dungeons a lot and have a good amount of support for allies

I run with all available weapons for guardians and have cleric gear for added heals to allies. For runes i run with the Superior rune of the Soldier for added condition removal.
Sword/torch is the main dmg set up for 1handers. This utilizes a good mix of single target with a splash of aoe with the torch. If you are running dps 1h then thats probably the set up for you.
Sword/focus leaves much to be desired in the utility and the dmg department so. If you wont dmg look above if you are looking for utility go scepter/focus.
Tap into some more dps stats if you are confortable with your current life span, if not get some pwr toughness cleric gear. So the question becomes are you ok with how long you live in your current gear or do you think that living a bit longer outweighs the need for more dmg. I personally run a more safe build and am usually the one leaving my post to rez a teammate so i took on some cleric gear.
This has been my 2c. With how easy it is to gear up you will be able to make multiple sets of armor that will conform to whichever need arises.
I like the idea of adding might for allies I might have to try it out. I run in almost full cleric gear so I’m tryin to focus in on healing first and I’ve run a somewhat similar set up with more focus on support but find myself wanting more dmg in select circumstances. The symbol healing ive been told is actually really helpful. My melee friends love to run with me.
Ive thought about switching up my runes but i like the idea of every man for himself and i need the soldier runes for that. Once i know I’m good i can take care of my teammates and with guardians with a low HP pool and me focusing on toughness not vitality condition removal becomes paramount.
If you arent looking to die i would recommend going GS mace shield for extra healing since you are wearing cleric gear. Take writ of the merciful in the honor tree to add team healing and you have symbols on both GS and mace so this benefits from both. The GS will be your major dmg dealer and mace shield will by your defensive set.
This is what i ran for a bit and my melee friends loved me.
For pve i find that Toughness is much better for guardians especially with all the condition removal that we can stack. The less that we have to heal the better and toughness provides that. I wear cleric gear as a support and i rarely see myself dip below 50% when im playing smart.
So you might be able to get away with a mix of pwr toughness crit gear that will compliment your set up pretty nicely and get the superior rune of the soldier to help with those condtions.
With this build I hope to create a balance between dmg and support for some PVE dungeons and solo-ability. The traits are pretty customizable for whatever Im trying to do let it be needed support or dmg.
Let me know what you all think of this.
