LET’S DO THIS!
People are already going crazy with changes that have not even been tested. Every single Joe feels that he’s an expert, and he knows exactly what’s going to happen if white swords were to be removed.
In fact, it’s practically impossible to predict how things go. Will it devolve to simple capping like it is in EotM? Or will it actually encourage players to defend objectives?
Of course, most arguments against removing white swords come with the undeniable fact that defending and scouting is neither rewarding, neither fun.
I think that expanding the upgrade system with more different defensive upgrades available including automatic scout devices(eotm observatory kind) and, well, more interactive defences and even stronger NPCs is in place to be if white swords are removed(I’ll remind you that since the game has been launched, we’ve got Ascended Gear, WXP, many other bonuses, new traits, and the player experience has risen greatly – Right now I am fully capable of soloing Keeps and Towers alone in a timespan of 10 minutes including gates(paper keep takes ~9-10 minutes to destroy 2 gates and kill champ with a single golem), even fully upgraded ones. And I do that on T1 server, too.)
The way at look at it is that while removing White Swords by itself may not be the greatest idea(though we have no idea which way it will go), it provides more possibilities and opportunities to WvW, especially with other changes that can come together with this specific change.
Pre-Beta GW2 – WvWvW would be a massive focus
2+yrs later – WvWvW has a team of 1 dedicated dev
Greetings Everyone,
Over the past 2 years I’ve been at the back of the pack and the front of the pack. The playstyles of the servers all in between are vastly different. I know many guilds are looking for new homes and I would like to take some time to explain the climates within various servers as I see it.
Your Focus
First and foremost you need to decide where you as a guild stands. Why do you play WvW? Is it to be part of the best server in GW2? Is it to be the best in your timeslot? Is it to be a part of a community? These are all questions you need to ask and discover the answer to. You can not have success with your team without knowing where you stand and what your after.
The Many Goals of WvW
When you break WvW down to a mechanic there are several things at play.
Server Rankings: Rank each of our servers from 1 to 24 or 27 depending on the region. This metric was placed into game to be the Unicorn that the competitive in nature chase. Without this piece ArenaNet would not be able to ensure the competitive nature of WvW and keep the most competitive players playing.
Points Per Tick: This allows competitive players to gauge how successful they have been in raising their servers overall score. Competitive players will be compelled to drive this higher.
Objectives: Scattered throughout the battlefield these provide players with targets to try to overtake. Some communities focus on taking as many as possible, some focus on holding as many as possible. In the end the mechanic of WvW is centered around taking and holding objectives. Most players will play WvW to do so.
These are the primary elements to WvW. After that you get some of the Meta games including:
GvG & Duels: Guild on Guild Action is quite popular. There are large portions of communities that love to get in on this action and hopefully someday ArenaNet will encourage some structured GvG action.
Karma Farming: This focuses on taking a lot of objectives quickly avoiding the majority of fights in exchange for high turnover in rewards including wEXP, EXP, Gold, Loot, and Karma. This is traditionally a fan favorite of casual communities.
The Fights!: Many guilds play WvW for the fights. The scoreboard plays secondary and they are just looking to find an opponent to fight. I see a whole lot of these types out there that will even forgo the reward if it means they have something to kill.
Psycological Warfare: Some players find a ton of enjoyment in tricking their enemy into doing things they want them to do. This can be a really fun metagame if you’re good at it. There’s nothing like having your opponent open a door for you so you can steal it away from them. Some players prefer PvP over PvE because PvP involves Psychology. It’s more of a sport than just a game.
Complitionists: These players are out for achievements and map completion. You will find them occasionally out there and they are motivated by achievements. Unlike the PPT chasers they chase a different metric being their achievement score.
Now these are just a few of the types of WvW fun you can find out there. What you want to think about is why do you play?

PPT rewards winning objectives, but awards points when there aren’t opponents to fight.
PPK rewards not losing fights/battles, but points can’t be awarded if there aren’t opponents to fight.
I think that overall it would be good to have both. Probably people will be more cautious when deciding to fight or run, though.
it’s just a terrible idea. The increase of PPK will result in the weaker zerg continuously hiding inside their tower nuking on the zerg with their sieges until they finally are able to kill them. This update only results in a reducement of total number of fights. During the last few weeks FSP has already been so frustrated about zergs (sometimes even twice as big) just running away. Giving the extra PPK will just shoo them away even more.
The second reason why anet shouldn’t implement this, is that it will further decrease the amount of glorious guilds/hardcore pugs who push in a blob because it will only hurt their own ppt.
Since the stomp ability has been introduced i already command my zerg to stay away from objectives instead of running in again when it is highly unlikely to actually hold the objective. Next update is gonna make sure that the players stay away from the towers so a blob can just roll over it without any resistance?

hey, can someone help me please…
my map doesn’t show the world completion icons(the ones on the top left corner, not on the map itself).
i know about the little eye icon, but it doesn’t work.
what should i do?
Here’s an idea to implement player housing. Players carry a portable magical door, which they can place on any wall in a town or outpost, to claim it as their own. Even houses that have no interior (since a lot of houses in towns are just decoration) can be claimed, but you can only use the door once. You can place your magical door on top of an existing door, or simply place it in an alley as some sort of secret access to your house.
Once the door is placed, it will forever be the entrance to your private home.
Multiple players can claim the same spot as their house, if they want. They can place their door anywhere they like, as long as it is in one of the existing cities. Touching this door takes them to their very own private house, which would be a separate instance.
Players that are in your party are allowed to join you in your home as you enter it, much like joining a story instance or a dungeon.
Each player receives one such portable door for free. And it can only be used once. Players can buy a new portable door from the Gem store if they change their mind.

Oh my god, because T1 NA ain’t doing good because of maxed stacked servers, WvW is doomed? Drama much.
We in EU barely notice Eotm, still got good match ups, good fights and good numbers on all sides. Maybe unstack a little and find out there is a world besides who can buy the most guilds.
Eotm is a fun place to blow off some steam after the more ‘serious’ WvW. It wont replace it, maybe for servers doomed to fight a 24/7 maxed out blob server but not for the ones who still get good fights. I think Anet did great with their addition.

OK, lets face it, we on Maguuma aren’t hanging in there well on this tier, we need bodies, especially oceanic bodies.
If you transferred to a winning t1 server from one that’s losing, this is you.
That’s right, you’re an elf, stuff was getting hard in middle earth, and what do you do, you took the 1st boat out. Shame on you, but don’t give up yet, redemption is still within your weakling grasp!
Next, if you stayed on a server that’s got rough going in it’s tier(like maguuma) this is you.
That’s right, your a manly man of middle earth, your flaxen hair flowing in the breeze cutting down any invaders dumb enough to mess with your junk. Situation got hard, and you got harder.
Now you’re asking yourself, what could be manlier than a man! Answer, someone who leaves their server to come to one in hard times knowing its an uphill battle! This my friend could be you!
That’s right your a dwarf, you city got dumped on by a mean dragon, who now lives in the ruins of what was once yours. You gonna just take this lying down? NOPE. You are going back and you DGAF about dragons(Like a real WvW’r). You are the definition of grizzled manliness. You don’t just accept tough situations that get thrust on you, you seek them out and all are dazzled by your glory. Come to maguuma, be a dwarf!

I think that Eredon Terrace is worth a look because we’re a pretty good match for everything you say you want and don’t want. We have room for more commanders, work to defend our borderlands and are active on emeny borderlands (even when outnumbered), appreciate scouting and communication in map chat and TeamSpeak, have an active TeamSpeak sever open to guilds and WvWers grouped into a variety of channels, and cooperate and have commanders that will respond to requests for help, even when they are commanding while drinking (yes, we already have some commanders who do that quite well). We also have players who will stand and defend and fight, even when the odds are heavily stacked against them.
We are Bronze League and what that means is no queues except on reset night, and they are usually short (5-15 minutes) and on one map only. Mild lag generally only happens during really large battles for keeps or Stonemist Castle. We tend to face other smaller servers, which leaves lots of room for roaming, camp capturing, yak slapping, sentry taking, and one-on-one and small group fights without being zerged. We also have some duelists and small group and GvG fighters, as do several of the other servers we frequently face off againt, and they generally have a “Fight Night” once per week on one of the maps and informal fighting going on throughout the matchup. An active group of 12-15 could have a big impact on our success, even during NA primetime, even doing their own thing. I’ve been doing solo roaming during the last two match-ups and have had a fair amount of one-on-one fights and some solo camp captures without getting zerged.
The bottom line, and I’ve said this in a few recruiting threads already, is that everyone on ET can make a difference and can get listened to, even without a tag. I encourage you to read the most recent ET recruitment message, which should be on the first or second page of the recruitment forum, which includes a before an after message from someone who transferred to ET. We also have people who left ET for higher-tiered play and came back, both for the variety of type of play we get in our tier range and because of the community on ET.
We do have a coverage problem during parts of the day, when we tend to lose a lot of things, but our coverage during NA primetime and over the weekends has generally been pretty good, and even when we are outnumbered, we tend to hold on to some things through it all, take things back, and do some strikes into enemy territory. I find our PvE coverage OK and do quite a bit of PvE, but a lot of the harder event chains are only done rarely, but you could guest to other servers to solve that problem if you find it too sparse. There is the occasional melt-down over map chat or TeamSpeak when we do particularly badly out of frustration but they are rare, not meant personally, and we bounce back from them quickly. The norm is for everyone to be cordial, if not helpful. For the most part, everyone cooperates and works together and I’ve seen more than one tower or keep saved by the cavalry arriving from another map, responding to a call for help.
How well would our small group of 15 fit into the WvW scene?
I think you’d fit very well, be greatly appreciated, and could make a huge difference. We have all different styles of play and they are all appreciated.
Do you think your server would support our crazy events? What kind of WvW events do you already have?
We generally have at least one “Fight Night” per matchup and recently had a Ladies Night organized by some women on ET to encourage women to play WvW and command (they are planning on doing that once per month). I don’t think anyone would have a problem with crazy events or drunk commanding so long as you are helping out and not dragging us down. ET cares about results, not whether you sing Shakira in TeamSpeak (yeah, we’ve had that) or command drunk (yeah, we’ve had that, too).
If you could change 1 thing about your server, what would it be?
I wish we had better and more consistant coverage, especially outside of NA primetime. We lose a lot of stuff overnight and through the day but do a good job taking and holding stuff during our primetime when we have coverage and can lead in points per tick during our primetime. If you seriously are worried about points, we’re usually not the winning server and there will be some disapointment, though we went up a lot in rankings before the Leagues (we were at the bottom) and are working on building up (you could certainly be an important part of that). If you want good fights at all levels (ranging from 1v1 and small group fights to zerging with some pugs) and a great community, especially during NA primetime, we’ve got plenty of that. Even when we’re outnumbered and losing in points, we’re doing things and not giving up. Like I said, everyone on ET can make a difference.

Aww, you mad brah? No need to get them panties in a twist this early, we’ve still got a whole week ahead of us.
xDI will enjoy a week of GoM bags. I play for fights, I won’t be playing 24×7 for pvdough aka avoiding fights all week. Enjoy your track star skills while I rack up my kills. I am having an awesome start to this matchup.

Clicked it thinking it would be a gameplay video showing us what you’re talking about.
Same here. SIlly us expecting the troll to show proof.
I prefer posting music videos over endless shots of me picking up GoM bags.

Well, once you get good enough to actually kill anything, we anxiously await your videos!
The written word is so under appreciated by the lesser educated in our society.
What you don’t like music? Sorry for your life. Destroyed your entire server endlessly today. Well when you didn’t see us fast enough to run away. Commanded EB from 9AM – 3PM EST and lost to GoM once. You popped ojays all over the EB that entire time. I was the one following you all over the map /beckon’ing you. You must be one of those too good for EB super GoM WvW’ers tho and missed all that.
And man GoM was throwin a constant faildown at WildCreek all day long. I even tried to help you guys turn it back to paper. I went there out of pity to help your server and got repaid with a backdoor at Durios at which you got wiped for the maybe the 15th time. I rejoiced for you once you finally flipped it.
