I’m guessing for fractals it’d be more about providing damage buffs and mobility?

Hi I am returning to druid (I love healing) after seeing the latest patch. I was wondering if they have been made any more viable for raids and possibly fractals. Thanks!

Returning: Is PVE DPS Necro viable?

The necro dps now is pretty incredible, albeit we dont have any dps meters, but I feel like I kill stuff very fast. Youre right about the lack of ranged damage, but you cant have everything. Makes up for it by having incredible melee damage.

The old speed run metas were based on berserker ice bow, Id be willing to bet necros could make it into some world records now though.

Yes, every class is viable.
Using the word “viable” is just silly.
Also, i have great respect for all of the people who put in work trying to figure out how these classes work, damage output, etc.
However, I see VERY few posts, guides, or “information” that does anything other than promote a particular person’s agenda.
This is from all sides of the argument.
Bottom line:
-We have no DPS tools, any conversation on this topic is merely speculation. albeit, often informed speculation, but speculation nonetheless.
-There is more to combat than DPS. Anyone who feels otherwise or simply does not acknowledge this fact is just not worth considering as a source of information or even conversation.
-Anyone who would either kick a player or flat out not accept a player to group based on speculation and 3rd party “information” is a bad, lazy player. A discerning person would be inclined to disregard this sort of person and their opinions.
-And finally, ALL classes are “viable”. ALL classes have their strengths and weaknesses. A GOOD team of GOOD PLAYERS, will put together a winning group with whatever you feel like bringing to the fight.

/RANT

For the most part I agree, but when people see what the people they look up to and go to for advice acting a certain way or doing certain things, they will want to copy that person. In this case they decided some classes, based on the aforementioned false information, arent good enough to take in their groups, and everyone else followed suit.

Bump because I also am curious and I only see PvP builds. Right now I’m currently using a shatter focused build with sword/shield and staff, but it is very rough and probably not optimal, but Its worked very well for me so far

How would you make us viable

I am curious to see what people would like a.net to get done with the ranger. I see alot of useless feedback lately like “this wont work” or “this is dumb” without providing any constructive criticism, or opinions on what WOULD work.

So, in your opinion what would make the ranger viable and WANTED in groups across all forms of play (wvw, pvp, 5mans, raids).

I mained elementalist a long time ago, and I was thinking about returning to ele for this xpac, I have not gotten a chance to play Tempest yet and I was wondering what the community of ele’s are thinking about it considering all the post-beta weekend changes they say they have made. I realize you havent gotten the chance to test some of these changes but any insight would be grand

Thanks !

I agree with everything you said, but basically what I’m getting at is that healing and coordinated support will be far more important in raids, and that druid will bring a lot of passive dps to the entire group

Say what? Did you just say a lot of passive DPS? LOLOLOL!! And no, healing in the form of blasting a water field is and will be all that’s needed. That’s done through coordination or, at least, situational awareness that a water field is down and needs to be blasted.

I’m guessing druid is designed for raids only other than raid druid won’t do much in dungeon fractal or open world boss

It was designed for raids. That’s the only place it’ll see use.. that is until the raids are learned and we start taking the least amount of healing needed.

Yes I said passive dps, and you probably misunderstood me. I ment damage that is not done directly by the ranger but is a result of him doing something that enabled his party to apply that damage that would not have been possible if he had not. Yes, I realize that druid is not the only class that can perform like this, but he CAN do it so it should be counted. I never said that the druid was the only one that could be a party support either, but I do believe that they will be very good at it, hence why you would take a druid in your group. They have a ton of stuns and crowd controls that I believe will be good in add control situations and/or break bar bashing, along side everything else they can do. Nearly every skill and talent is multifaceted, that is their whole gimmick. While you are healing you are probably also dps’ing or cc’ing.

And no water fields alone will probably not be enough to keep everyone alive. Even if it is, the druid has that kind of stack and heal MORE than covered.

Let us not forget the large and long lasting fire field from the new pet which will provide a lot of might potential during the fight (has to be cast on the boss)

The seed bloom is fairly easy and powerful, among other things I’d say that the way druid is looking now it’s going to be at least moderate at Condi cleansing in real situations.

As far as sacrificing dps? I don’t really see it. Sure if you are healing you aren’t damaging, but like I said it saves others from having to stop and do it. When druids are not healing they are still one of the best range dps, and a very good melee dps

I’m still pretty skeptical about druid healing when waterfields that have no cooldowns on blasts still exist.

Druid does bring a lot of water fields, but they would require coordinated stacking as a lot of people would be spread out I bet, and with stacking that spectral heal spam will easily overshadow water field blasts, not to mention how awesome the seeds would work along with it. Think of it this way with 1 or 2 druids in the group the dps classes can stick to it instead of having to retreat or swap to water attainment to heal up : )

That leads to a lot of dps the druid adds just by being present

I am just hoping that druid is and always will wanted for raiding (and maybe the newer tiers of fractals)

And it won’t unless they change it to be able to do mroe then heal spam.

It’s not really “spam” in a way that every other class in the game “spams” unless you mean spectral 1 which is quite spamming. It seems to me that you are kind of viewing druid through the current pve lens where support and helping your team survive content isn’t really needed, but remember that raids are going to have a lot of damage that you can’t dodge or passively avoid. This is why it is inaccurate to claim that other classes can do the same job as druid only with more damage. It’s simply not true even as far as damage goes either, as it seems druid will still be a very capable dps, especially at range, remember they still have full access to two trait lines and all the old weapons. A lot of fighting will be at range. You will not be able to melee the boss safely and passive heal all the damage it does. Weakness and chill will not affect raid bosses. The melee classes will require more healing than anything else, making the druid even more viable.

I can see how for current content druid is a bit redundant, I can always do very well with current ranger meta builds, I am just hoping that druid is and always will wanted for raiding (and maybe the newer tiers of fractals)

I main as a ranger, and in GW1 I mained as monk, so I am very excited for druid! I do have a few concerns, but I realize a lot of this is still speculation right now. Still, I’d like to see what people are thinking.

1. Will druid be necessary for any content?
2. Do we expect people to stick with the current berserker meta even post icebow?
3. After people learn the content will druids still be wanted?

Hello, I am a returning player having difficulty choosing a main class to stick to. I have given Elementalist and Engineer a shot, and while good fun and effective I dislike quite a few things about them both. I was going to choose either guardian or warrior, having both at 80 very near launch and not played since then. I want to focus on Fractals, specifically being super beneficial to my team during them. A friend told me warrior was the best choice due to might stacking, but I’m not so sure. Please help!

Thanks!

Hello, I came back to GW2 some weeks ago, and I have been debating what class I want to pick as my “main character”. My main focus is pve, with very little to no pvp interest, and guardian and engineer have had alot of success it seems with being the support role. I was wondering which one would you guys recommend for pve/fractals as far as a character that will be the most beneficial to the group.
Thanks!

I was browsing the forums just now and I saw plenty of mention about the HGH builds that can also be used in PVE. In the common opinion which build is more viable/does more actual damage: SD or HGH? Also there are the two kits I mind the least, and that is the Tool Kit and Elixer Gun. They are both somewhat fun to me, but limited in application when I play solo. However Im seeing things that are saying that the tool kit is totally overpowered now (did it get a buff since i was away?) which says to me that I may wanna use that kit more often.

Hope for a kitless build

The problem lies with how engineer kits work at the moment. The bomb, grenade, and flamethrower kits in particular seem to be the most popular, and to the people who enjoy them, please realize that this is just from my perspective.

The flamethrower is fine when you want to attack stationary mobs and/or mobs that are focused on other people. Problems arise when you try to kite them, attacking foes behind you causes most attacks to miss, and most of the attacks seem to be focused on keeping your foes in front of you. Saddly, GW2 currently does not work like this in reality as the game forces you to kite mobs if you dont want to die a quick death. Otherwise the kit seems to be okay, as the last time i played gw2 it was mentioned to be extremely high dps.

Both the bomb kit and grenade kit essentially suffer from the same frustrating downfall: delay time. Bombs obviously have a fuse time, but for some unknown reason engineers have to lob the grenades high up into the air before they land, most of the time this results in a much longer delay time till detonation than bombs. And as with flamethrower grenades suffer while attacking moving foes, albeit it is easier to kite with than flamethrower, while bombs will sometimes detonate after the enemy has moved out of range.

I recognize that alot of the above problems can be improved on by practice or by choosing traits. And while i dont believe that one should have to spend trait slots just so that weapons will become NOT frustrating, I also recognize that there is some balance issues happening. None of these things, however, would mean much to me if it was not for my next point.

Weapon kits look very stupid. Not necessarily the weapons themselves, but the backpack you are forced to wear while using them. That amorphous blob of dirty white cloth that somewhat resembles whatever kit you are using. These packs almost completely eclipse your actual character and ruin any form of artisic aesthetics you tried so hard to achieve. This is the main reason why I choose to either play kitless or not play engineer at all…because I look like a moron and Im constantly being frustrated by them.

So if there is any build out there (preferably rifle, I love the rifle) that provides the aforementioned lack of blob-toting ragepacks Id be extremely happy to try them out!

If you could have any elite from gw1....

MusicMuse.5749

I was at work thinking about what elite would be fun to be converted into gw2, I came up with some interesting ideas.

Id like to know what everyone else wants/thinks!

Keep in mind that the skill has to be “converted” to gw2 so that the rules that would normally apply to it would instead apply to it as if it were in gw2. For example, a skill that would restore mana would instead restore another resource instead.

My personal favorite so far? Spiteful Spirit. It could apply many stacks of confusion (or flat damage) each time they attack or use a skill. Applies to all foes in an area.
