Think of it as working in the service industry. Some places, such as restaurants (at least in the US) tipping is a social obligation. People accept and understand that you should tip your server, and generally do. However, some professions in service are often overlooked as far as tips. It doesn’t mean that they don’t want them, or need them. But such a gesture is greatly appreciated.

I think the OPs point is, if someone is doing you a service (porting you to the end of a JP) proper etiquette would demand that a small token of your appreciation be given. It’s not hurting anyone, and it shows that you are grateful. Sure you could not tip, but it does reflect upon you as a person. Just like if you go to a restaurant and don’t leave a tip, what kind of person does that make you appear? Servers will remember you, and next time you come in, you will get the worst possible service. They will also remember if you do tip, and even more so if you tip generously, resulting in the best possible service, and sometimes some extra goodies.

Yeah, except the servers NEED tips to meet minimum wage (at least in a majority of states/regions of the US). A mesmer dropping a portal after they already finished the JP (or after they logged onto a character that’s permanently parked at a chest) and got their reward is hardly the same thing as working a job that doesn’t pay minimum wage and assumes your tips will make up the difference. If a mesmer in GW2 doesn’t get a tip for portaling someone, they can still play the game the exact same way they would if the person had given them 10s or whatever.

Except that anywhere that pays servers under minimum wage and expects tips to make up the amount is legally requires to pay the server more if the tips do not bring them up to minimum wage, so until the tips bring the server over minimum wage, you are “tipping” the establishment and not the worker. But that’s totes off topic.

As someone who has worked at a restaurant that refused to do that, I can tell you that this does not always happen, despite the owners being “legally required” to do it. But indeed, it’s off topic.

Yup, creates a terrible system where you are afraid to lose your job for reporting them. So yeah…I never found it offensive if Mesmers asked for tips.

You can always buy the envelopes and resell them for gold, lol.

Resell the envelopes themselves? I bought a 10pack one, lost ~ half a gold, got a bunch of luck. Went up 2% mf(guess thats ok), and got that backpiece which is horrible with the small lanterns.

Outside of that not sure what to do lol. And dragonball was fun for the first game. After that i quickly learned it depended on how bad your team was… then having people just stand there and die every game quickly ruined it.

Yeah, resell the envelopes themselves

"Skill Grind" Can Be Worse Than "Gear Grind"

Gear grind invalidates gear you acquired before. Skill grind isn’t invalidating anything. Your old gear is still as awesome as it used to be. The thing they were trying to avoid is making things obsolete with new content.

More Modern Pistol Skins!

This is just a silly quibble. Handguns (the correct terminology for what we’re talking about) can require the use of two hands. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Handgun (first sentence). If you have any doubts, trying firing http://www.smith-wesson.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Category4_750001_750051_775664_-1_775655_757896_image with one hand.

We’re not talking about handguns, we’re talking about pistols. Did you not read any of the posts you responded to? Here, this is from your own link:

“Some handgun experts make a technical distinction that views pistols as a subset of handguns. Sometimes in American usage, the term “pistol” refers to a handgun having one chamber integral with the barrel, making pistols distinct from the other main type of handgun, the revolver, which has a revolving cylinder containing multiple chambers."

And

“The first handheld firearms that might better be called “pistols” were made as early as the 15th century, but their creator is unknown."

Maybe in the future not only read what you’re responding to, but also the links you post as, in this case, they might refute your argument.
Despite this, the fact remains there were no pistols in the 13th century. You can argue semantics all you want, but you’re not correct. No one with any shred of historical knowledge or firearms knowledge would make such an inaccurate statement and trying to defend the existence of 13th century pistols is like trying to argue that the Mughal Empire had tanks because they armored elephants and mounted guns on their backs. It’s simply not true.

Just to be clear and have our facts straight, as wikipedia says also:

“The word “pistol” is often synonymous with the word “handgun”. "

In general usage they can be used to refer to the same thing.

And no I am not arguing about the timeline of their creation at all. But if you are going to tell people to get their facts straight, you should do the same.

And then the rest of that paragraph (and the page) go on to state why the words are actually not synonymous and why experts make a distinction. So yeah, I have my facts straight. You may want to do the same.

Here’s something for you to read:

“A pistol is a handgun – but not all handguns are pistols.”

http://hunting.about.com/od/guns/g/glossary-definition-of-pistol.htm

Furthermore it seems you’re unaware that the OP specifically stated pistol and not handgun. Again, facts are useful.

Except that these facts have close to zero relevance for what the OP is talking about. He wants more modern style pistols regardless of when the first pistols were created. Also, don’t forget that definitions differ from source to source and are subject to change at the whims of the populace.

On topic, I agree. I wouldn’t mind seeing some more modern, futuristic, or magitechy pistols. I didn’t really want to take the pact gun for my first story completion but I wanted to have a skin like that.
