Whomever was the deciding factor in this decision should not have their job. Cultural considerations my butt, the representation of different cultures is part of what made the GW1 world so interesting. Further, as this is a SEQUEL of the first game, you can’t just ignore those continents. They will forever be lingering questions and plotholes. Not to mention you actually have novels that talk about them! If you’re going to keep it ‘universal’ (which is ironic since this design is exclusive, not inclusive) be ignoring Cantha, then chances are that same decision will mean excluding Elona. That is unacceptable to me. I don’t want a whole new world, I want to know what happened to Cantha now that they’re semi-united, and I wanted to know what happened to Elona now that it’s decimated and crawling with undead after Palawa Joko got his hands on it, once the previous heroes took out Abaddon. The idea that these two continents won’t end up in GW2 significantly impacts my desire to care about this universe anymore.

We’re just going to ignore all that history? And if so, why did you guys build the community up over it? The recent Cantha content in GW1 was meant to bridge a gap…and give us some history heading into GW2. Now you’ve got us waiting to see what happens next. Can’t just leave people hanging.

And by the way while we’re on the topic, what’s this about ‘universal’ in the first place? I don’t see many (if any) npc characters that are asian, or black, or anything definable as something other than caucasian. Is this what is to be considered ‘universal’? That’s actually pretty offensive.

Got to admit, a lot of that made me breathe a sigh of relief. Also while I appreciate (and empathize) with a lot of the frustration happening, some people were pretty blatantly rude with their questions, I’d hope we were all more mature than that. Chris is a bigger man than I am, I’d have ignored those questions entirely.

I honestly don’t mind new tiers of gear, what I mind is when ridiculously difficult ones like legendary and, currently, ascended, become stronger than what is realistically available. If this were any other game, it would be expected, but that’s not what was promised for GW2 and thus that’s why I’m here. But they seem to realize it wasn’t a good call to roll this new content out like they did and are going to work out something to make it more accessible, so I’m back to the ‘benefit of the doubt’ stage. As for Legendaries being infusable, I feel like that should bother me but it doesn’t; they are incredibly difficult to get, I don’t mind them having that extra bonus provided someone with a legendary will still overall find challenge fighting someone with just a rare/exotic.

FoTM DC's

Reaaaaally trying to just get over my annoyance with FoTM and go with the flow. Can’t find groups doing my levels, whatever keep trying. Stupid hard challenges, whatever hope for a better group.

But then to find all of the above, DC at the end of the third Fractal only to find that, for whatever reason, Anet didn’t allow people who crash to get back IN with the group they were with….what the bloody hell? Mind you this wasn’t even my internet, this was a genuine “serious error send to anet” popup situation. Just….wow.

EDIT – Alright, had a sec to breathe. It’s 2 am, I’d been looking for a group for that level for a while now and it’s frustrating to see that effort and luck go to waste, we were doing so kitten good. But anyway, I hope this is something you guys are looking into seriously. GW2 as a client is a bit unstable, I crash way more often than I should for a game 3 months in, but up until now it hasn’t been a big deal because it hasn’t really affected anything; just relog, send report, move on. Between Karka and now the Fractal crashes however, I’m pulling my hair out.

Rethink event scaling

I’d like to see “Group” events removed entirely and all events differentiated only by the people participating in them, exception being the world boss events like Shatterer and such.

I loved the idea of Group events initially, but as the “new” factor of the game dies down and the population spreads out and/or concentrates on newer content, you’re seeing a lot of “Group” events being ignored and people like me, who still visit those older areas, having to run around them rather than clear them ourselves.

For example, I’m in Bloodtide Coast at the moment, and there’s a group event involving a Troll running about. I’ve shouted in map, mentioned in guild, no one’s really interested in it and I can’t really blame people for not wanting to teleport to a map just to complete a champion event. To me, it makes more sense to have monsters be NO HIGHER than Veteran status, and gradually progress to Champion (and even Legendary) status if/when other people show up to participate. At least that way, the events can always be completed (as all professions can handle vets solo for the most part) but still have the potential to become more challenging when others appear.

This is actually what I initially expected GW2 would do and I was a little disappointed to see that wasn’t the case. Hopefully, now that the population isn’t the boom it was at release, Anet will consider this as a possibility.

Absolutely useless and more bullcrap on my screen that is UI that i have to look at. I would like to see infront of me not some random UI item bar that has absolutely NO BUSINESS ON MY SCREEN. how hard is it to put your food items at the top of your inventory and be done with it? are you so lazy you want a button to fight you fights, manage your food buffs which are super easy to do fyi.
why are you asking for such a pointless thing that can be achieved by applying BRAINZ. ?

no really, why do you need it? its like addons for other games like WOW. they had addons, and the people stopped playing the game but became a game of press the UI

By this logic, why have hotbars at all? Why not leave your skill sheet open and just choose skills from there? Better yet, let’s get rid of all UI elements and just have everything be /commands. Go back to the MUD days. Because progress is clearly meant only for the lazy.

If you use the thing you are claiming people are lacking, you’d see why your post is devoid of it.

One of the best suggestions yet, I want MF gone. I even have a full set of MF gear, but unlike most people I ONLY wear it while soloing. I hate walking into dungeons with a group of people clearly in MF gear. Ask the dude that folds like paper and hits like it too and you’ll inevitably find he’s full of MF gear, which realistically doesn’t give you that great a chance to get better equipment. For that small percentage of a chance, he’s not only hindering himself but the entire team. If I ever find someone with even a piece of MF gear in my fractal groups, they get kicked to the curb. I’m a bit more forgiving with normal dungeons even though I dislike it, but fractals are a straight out no. Which is sad when you think of it, because this was never meant to be that kind of game, but since Anet clearly wants that to change, we all get to ‘adapt’. Get proper gear or gtfo. Tis the name of the game, now.

LOL you don’t even know the facts yet. kitten

How are people like you not embarrassed for repeating a completely ridiculous phrase like ‘kitten’ just because someone else did it first? The magnitude of the lemming mentality among gamers these days is astonishing.

For those complaining that first, people were upset that there wasn’t a grind, and now they’re upset that their isn’t, please try to keep a little perspective and ~common sense~ when you post. Just the tiniest bit would suggest that these are two different schools of thought complaining, not the same people contradicting themselves. It’s a little boggling that something so obvious needs explaining in the first place.

I haven’t decided if I’m flat out leaving yet, but it’s tempting. For me, I’ll be moving on entirely if I do uninstall. I expected GW2 to be “the one” having never had the chance to be with an MMO since its inception before, and planned to be here for years to come. The direction it’s heading however, ick…there’s nothing else out there that exists or is on the way that interests me. It’s just as well, finishing college in a month, this might be just the kick I need to be more productive. I think I’ll just leave this world behind entirely. Shame if it ends up GW2 that finally numbs me to video games.

Actually, I have full 80 exotic gear. I’ve had it since the first 2 weeks of the game. That being said, I still don’t like the direction this game is going, and I do NOT like that FoTM is gated. I was happier with the game before this month, tbh. Now, I’m already looking for something new. Expected this one to be a keeper. Shame.

Was in the final part moving the Ancient back to nesting grounds and then everyone on map crashed out. Basically spent the last couple of hours for nothing then other than armor repair costs.

Yup!

This is why one-time events are bad. One chance to do something in a medium where so many things can and do go wrong (programming) is asking for trouble. Would have been better to introduce a boss that spawned once a day but only dropped that amazing loot once per character’s lifetime and just a normal event boss chest everytime after. Least then people wouldn’t be worried about missing out because of errors/timeline. Get the feeling Anet caved to the whiners complaining about events not having permanent affects…there’s a reason games don’t do this.

Finally got into an event, everything was going well, then everyone errored out and DC’ed. Yes, everyone, even my friend, at the same time, who wasn’t even on the same overflow. Come on, Anet. Now I can’t get back into that overflow. All that time wasted.

Wasn’t repeating for me. Just got home recently, haven’t been able to participate. Waited around in overflows, nothing, tried joining others, nothing. My friend was in an overflow that didn’t do theirs yet, unfortunately so was everyone else. I spammed to join his instance for half an hour, never got in.

I’m quickly growing disappointed and disillusioned with Anet’s gaming practices. One time events that evidently a LOT of people, not just me, are going to be missing out on with some amazing loot, a gear treadmill when they previously swore against it. Feeling kinda betrayed at this point, and that’s coming from someone that traveled halfway across the country to shake hands with them at PAX.

So, it’s 1) a dungeon that gets harder the further in you go and Anet is already known for difficult dungeons.

2) Drops Ascended gear which is more powerful than exotics. Both in stats and ability to infuse it with stuff.

3) Is meant to prepare people for harder content that comes later.

How is this not a dungeon gear grind like every other MMO out there? You know, the ones you (Anet) originally were trying to be better than.

The new Lost Shores dungeon is supposedly massive and has 9 mini dungeons in it.

This infusion business is probably a way of content progression, not gear progression.

i.e. You have to do some parts of the dungeon before you can rush to the big final boss.

That’s contradictory to what every article about it has said so far, not just this one article. Check the ones on other forums like MMORPG.com, they all echo the same thing. They all say the ascended will be stronger PLUS the POTENTIAL option for infusion. If infusion was the only thing that made them stronger, and not all of them come with infusion options, then they’re not ascended. In order to be ascended, they have to have the former or both, meaning in either case, they’re still better. It’s a stat creep, and as the gear has to be grinded for, it’s a gear grind. There’s really nothing more to it than that.

@Lucas – You’re a terrible PvPer, then. I regularly take supply depos for my world on my own and protect them from parties of others taking ridiculous amounts of damage from my spells. I can always tell the difference between someone with decent gear and stats vs. someone who thinks like you (no offense intended) as the latter practically melts while the former at least gives me a run for my money.

I’d like his health lowered too :x actually the health of most bosses. It’s not for difficulty, it’s just that I frequently find myself kind of yawning about halfway through even when it’s a challenge. Just takes far too long, it’s like artificially inflating content. I prefer the big boss battles outside, where things are burned down relatively quick. I want to constantly be engaged with fast pacing and action, not killing the same thing for 15 min >_<

I’m currently looking a guild for me and potentially two of my friends as well. I’ve been in and out of guilds that never seem to go anywhere, and I’m rather tired of it. My friends and I play fairly heavily, with at least two of us already with several 80 characters in full crafted exotic gear, max crafts, and heavy investment in dungeons and WvW. We are on Stormbluff, and are willing to relocate if the guild proves to be worth the effort.

What we want is a guild that participates in both PvE and PvP content fairly equally. I am willing to build groups, people just need to be active and willing to come. However, I’d like to be in a guild of self-starters, where a healthy percentage of people are getting the guild together for content rather than waiting around for others to do so, or are too busy solo’ing to bother.

What I do NOT want is a guild that treats the game like a job. I’m not talking setting up dungeon/event/pvp times and coordinating groups for optimal performance, that’s fine (and expected). What I do not like however, are people who can’t quite grasp the concept of real life > video games.

If you’re the kind of guild that likes an active group-oriented player, but accepts that they may need to step back from the game on occasion for school/work, you can reach me through this thread. I’ll be checking in on it regularly. Thanks.

Karma NEEDS to be account-bound

I hope so. Most things in the game are achievable very easily. Getting to 80, completed story, etc. And that’s fine, I like that the game is accessable and don’t want that to change. But, at least for me and the people I play with, the longetivity factor comes from making alts and playing through new storylines and running through content with new characters, because the classes all feel very different. It’s just a shame that our progress with another character, in regards to karma (and possible dungeon tokens) sits in limbo as we try to find ways to extend our enjoyment of the game. It’s still effort, dedication and time spent playing, even if it’s not on the same character. If the higher price of those exclusive items is meant to show that, then people who like alts shouldn’t be getting shafted.

No, it’s not. You don’t seem to be quite getting it. That’s not hard to do at all. If you want to have a new set of armor for every circumstance and absolutely require that it’s the best available, you’re going to have to work for it. How is that unfair? If you want to be that versatile, get an exotic set for your main build and stick with gold sets for your situational builds. The gold sets are MORE than functional for gameplay, and are like a single digit % less powerful than exotic versions. It’s not a huge gap.

You’re asking that you just get the best of everything you could ever want in the game, right away, and you think Anet’s the one being unreasonable?

I suggested this for Karma and forgot to consider Tokens completely. I fully agree, Tokens should be an account currency as well. I think anything to keep people experiencing and experimenting with the content is a good thing, and giving them the ability to do so across various characters and playstyles will do that.

Change the 25 bleed stack limit

Nate Gray.9241

Hmm…this is a tough one. I’m a condition-build mesmer, and I always get a gold. I didn’t even know this was a ‘thing’ until I happened upon this thread. My gut reaction is that I agree with the OP, but then there’s some things to consider.

First off, the difference between me, a condition mesmer, dropping a bunch of conditions which then run on auto-pilot while I focus on staying alive or helping others, is very large when compared to a DD who is constantly in the thick of battle.

Secondly, if you make bleed stacks per person, and you have 100 people stacking bleed (a conditionmancer can get it quite high, and the highest I’ve gotten on my own with my hybrid build is about 9) then the boss would be dead pretty much in seconds. Yes, the damage overall would compare to what DD’s can do, however DD’s can’t also do conditions alongside direct damage, they can’t damage the bosses while they’re in their air or out of reach (as opposed to condition damage which lingers until it ends), and they’re a lot less versatile in the thick of battle. Also keep in mind that DD is much easier to avoid than condition damage. It’s usually condition damage that kills me, especially in PvE; it’s not the meleers or the mages, it’s the guys stacking conditions on me that I don’t have the ability to heal because my condition heals are on cooldown, and I have no way to get out of them, they’re just there until they end or my heals refresh.

Still…ugh…the idea that our damage is being ignored entirely just because someone else already applied it REALLY sucks. I can’t get over that. I guess I see the problem posed by the OP, but I’m not agreeing on the solution. To be fair, I don’t think anyone in this thread (on either side of the argument) has figured out a good solution to this. It’s a difficult problem, one caused by the design of the game itself.

It took me 2 days to get the materials for my level 80 exotic cloth gear + an exotic 80 staff. Granted, when I first saw the requirements, this was my initial reaction too. I made myself some gold gear and planned on ignoring the exotics.

Then I 100%‘ed all the 70+ maps, and ended up with 2 40 stacks of Ori and a 40 stack of gossamer, and a bunch of silver. I broke golds and lower-priced epics along the way for the ecto (I never had to buy any, I ended up having everything I needed). I had to buy some more gossamer and ori, but not much, because while running around 100%’ing the map I’d built up some stacks of them already. The money I made gathering mats I didn’t need then selling, combined with the mats from selling gear drops, and map completion, gave me what I needed to buy what mats I was missing off the Trade-post.

I was done in two days. I don’t have a secondary exotic and only 2 pieces of exotic accessories mind you, but those can wait until I build up some more money again (down to 2g). And to avoid the question later, I’ve never converted gems to gold, or the other way around for that matter.

Anyway, it’s only ‘40g’ worth of components if you buy 40g worth of components. Otherwise, get out there and get the materials yourself, it saves lots of money and you also contribute to the community this way.

Don’t brush this off! Listen to what I have to say.

I used to be one of the people saying Karma shouldn’t be account-bound, however now that I’m at “end-game” (yes yes, I know, it doesn’t technically exist, blah blah, just go with it) I’m realizing why that was wrong.

The end-game Karma resources cost a LOT of Karma. Between exotics and Legendaries, you will be aiming for millions of Karma, millions! But the thing is, I totally don’t mind! It gives me things to do, a long-term goal. I’d love to be playing GW2 for 2 years and suddenly realize I have the ability to get some incredibly epic piece of gear that shows me dedication.

What I ~don’t~ want, is to spend 2 years on the same character, doing the same skill rotations, the same content, the same way, ALL THE TIME. That is likely to make me quit the game more than any grind will. The karma rewards prior to that point are paltry, there’s really nothing else you can’t afford (even the highest level recipes) with some time and effort. So, the idea that karma shouldn’t be account-bound just based on those items is silly; realistically, it doesn’t affect anyone either way. The karma end-game rewards however, those are the ones that take huuuuge amounts of time and dedication, and I think most people would find it a more enjoyable experience if this was karma they could build up over different characters, different storylines, etc. If this was the case, I’d ~want~ to level up every class, because I know by that time I could pick a favorite and he or she’d be well on their way to that epic item to show off all the time and effort I put into the game thus far.

Right now, this is not the case. I love my mesmer, but I don’t want to play him non-stop, forever. The only current option is to play the same character and basically run ‘zerg’ parties throughout the 75+ regions for Karma, which is fun, but gets old. I don’t want to burn out on the game, I want to be playing this for years to come, which means variation is an absolute given.

Hopefully the reasoning behind my suggestion has gotten through clearly. Thanks!
