I only do WvW and the majority of my guild only does WvW. Do we do other things to get ascended gear? Sure, you kind of have to if you want the gear, but we only really do WvW.
Support builds have become irrelevant with the stab changes and the June update; build your glass cannon and get in there.
You missed the part where this was referencing the expansion and the changes coming with it.
On the other hand, it’s pretty trivial to offer both support and damage on quite a few classes, such as staff ele.
The point is that in the expansion, it looks like you may have the ability to go pure support roles rather than swapping in and out. If you want to provide that pure support role, you shouldn’t be punished. As it stands right now, no, going full support is a terrible idea. I play an ele and swapping in and out of water to something like air or fire is simple. But in the expansion, I may be able to play that full support role and I may not need to do much damage if any outside of something like static field, etc. I just know that if I am penalized for it, then I won’t bother going that role.
Sorry to be that guy^^
But GW2 was entirely built around the concept of not having healers. I was playing Boon duration guardian before the great rune revamp (+130% boon duration yay) and that’s when I remembered that they didn’t want us to play like that. (now u can barely get to +95ish%).
You can still play some stuff like shout guardian/warrior and do some condi-clearing but you WILL need to get in there and hit your targets as the game will not reward you for any form of support.Or just make a solo build and don’t care about anyone, that seems to be the meta^^
Key word here is “was”, Anet made the change to implement more healing/support type game play so Anet should be accommodating their change. What the game “was” built around no longer matters, what the game “is” now built around does matter.
That is pretty much it.. With HoTs, it seems there is going to be more of an emphasis on healing/cleansing than there is now. They already stated that for harder PvE content, they need the holy trinity so to speak. I would imagine the same stuff will spill over into PvP aspects of the game as it will change up the entire meta. So it would be awesome to see some sort of dev response on this matter. Any game that has the holy trinity does this. You use support/healing skills that benefits someone else, you get their tags. GW2 should do the same thing in the expansion.
Why is it that if you want to play a support role or use support abilities, you don’t get any credit. Many games give you full credit for being in that support role as the credit you get is based on the people you heal/support. In HoTs, I can see healing/support being more important but what incentive do I have to play that role over a damage role where I am able to get the tag and get credit? Why is it that using support abilities and heals provide you with no tag or any credit? You did heal someone who did tag a few players, so shouldn’t you get some of the credit? If I put down frozen ground and they get the buff from that, shouldn’t I get some credit for the players they hit and slow? If I heal them, shouldn’t I get some credit for the players they hit while being healed by me?
So… you want to see no nameplates what so ever on all enemy players? Teamwork and tactics, LOLOL. Who are you kidding? Removing of nameplates from enemies wouldn’t create the need for more tactics or anything like that. It would just create a huge annoyance. All you would see would be random player models running around without being able to tell who the hell they are. It would only promote confusion and I am sure it would in fact discourage people from doing WvW. I am grateful people like you are not in charge of game design. If this game was only about “wouldn’t it be cool” ideas, no one would want to play it.

If you are interested in joining and are on Yak’s Bend, follow along in WvW with us. If you like what you see, join up. We just ask that you be on our TeamSpeak when we do events and register on our forums. Our forums are mainly used so we can keep in contact with one another. When you join us, you aren’t just joining a random guild to tag up every now and again. You are joining to be a part of a large gaming community that has been around since 1998.
Since Metabattle hasn’t updated yet, I was wondering if there were any changes to the runes/sigils most groups tend to be running?
Are there any plans to have these things be automated where its just mined from the player’s data automatically and they don’t have to get an API key?
Kind of further explanation from my post above but one of the things we do for our WvW is we run the same builds and gear setup for each class to make sure we maximize what we are doing. Sometimes when people keep dying, we figure out they are not running the same gear/build setup but we don’t know and thus cannot help them and show them what they may be doing wrong. It would be so much easier to just look at who is in our guild or just look up their info via their ID and check out their info to see what they are running.
I have a question with these changes. Would it allow someone to make an armory similar to World of Warcraft with being able to see what equipment they have on and maybe what abilities/traits they picked?
Obviously I didn’t see abilities/traits but I think that would be an amazing feature to see who is running what build and what equipment and runes/sigils they are using. Outside of what our entire outfit wants (because we want this with a passion), I think it would be nice to see what top players in each area are using. Like WvW, SPvP, PvE, et.

I joined The Enclave back in 2004/2005 and I have never looked back. This community is a tight nit group of people who are very dedicated to their craft. I see no reason to be a part of any other community as there is a reason we have been around since 1998 and have not changed leadership or had any kind of power struggle. This community will be around for many more years to come. If you want to win and enjoy a good fight, come join us.
Because of the absence of these features for so long I think the WvW community now looks at the difficulty of managing these as one of the things that separates the skillful from the newer player in WvW and not something lacking in the game.
I don’t think having a few people only look at the map as something that is skillful but as a boring thing someone is required to do. Why do people need to even be dedicated to looking at the map? Because the devs have neglected that aspect and you guys seem to be complacent with having a few people just stare at a map for several hours. That sounds like kitten work to me, not something “skillful” players do. Please, can someone indulge me with how “skillful” it is to look at a map and relay information?
That is the risk when people play together.
As for a guild ‘raiding’ together, you have an option to have one run a tag. Of course that attracts random people, and if you don’t want that, have to run tagless. Assuming on teamspeak or something? Just requires a bit of coordination and it works well. Occasionally might have to stop and pick up your people, but that would happen with or without a UI.
You also end up with far less cluttering your screen… Which I didn’t mention before was a lot of the purpose as well. When there is a lot of stuff on the screen, it tends to get people in trouble and blocks view/targeting.
You are avoiding my question and I wonder why you are bothering to post here to my question. I’m asking what is the reasoning for not implementing a raid frame UI and you seem to just be giving your own personal opinions as to why you dislike them and wouldn’t use them.
Well… WvW isn’t a raid. You have general freedom on where to go, what to take.
The thing is that when my guild is doing WvW, it just seems odd they have no support for a guild wanting to run a raid and run together. Just seems odd that the stance would be “we don’t use raid frames in the UI because we want to give you the freedom..” That doesn’t really make a whole lot of sense.
The map gives information on where something is under possible attack, other players give information on whether something being contested is actually an attack.
Intention is that a player looks at the map, and sees these things going on. And if people don’t see, then the attackers played it smart. If everyone got notification, it would kinda discourage smaller groups trying to sneak a cap, because everyone on the map would instantly get notified.
And of course there are sites that tie into the API and update to give that information if a person really wants it.
But you also have people telling misinformation from what I have noticed. They frequently will say there is only 1 guy when there is an entire zerg capping something. Or when your trade routes go down you get nothing. I just think it is kind of silly that they don’t give you any kind of information at all for a game that is focused around PvP and has a huge focus for world pvp.
I’m new to Guild Wars and I was curious on a few things. I’ve been doing WvW and I noticed that there are no notifications of when something is under attack or has been taken. What was the reasoning for this? I’m also used to having raid frames and all that stuff so I was wondering what was the reason for no raid UI?
You want WvW more casual? Go to EoTM. Problem = Solved.
