- Dialogues as usual are bad and full of immersion breaking humor and modern slang.
- A certain story character looked better in GW1 than in GW2 (she looks like generic npc).
This is not the first time someone mentions the fact that characters break immersion because of how goofy the dialogue is. I keep saying it with every occasion and now more than ever I ask myself WHY don’t you change the tone of the story? Why do you keep throwing at us all kinds of funny dialogues and whimsical characters when you have so much good stuff to mold into a great and epic story?
Now, the feedback:
CONS:
**The map is super uninteresting. Reusing assets from old Orr was not the way I imagined you would do it.
**The Story started well with the new character being quite interesting but by the end it fell flat on its face;
**The final cutscene could have received some more love if you ask me. For a season finale it was pretty dull.
PROS:
**The expansion announcement which I hope will be fix A LOT of issues with the story and characters and also, because I’ll make a habit of: *please give us an option to reduce the particles on skills and other things that make the game so shiny. *
Am I the only one who feels this way? I really don’t want to be turned away from this game, especially since there aren’t many others out there that scratch that WoW-type (without subscription fees) itch. I have Elder Scrolls Online, but it’s not as easy to jump into and play for any given amount of time (if anything, it’s better for wanting to play for extended periods, given the nature of its quests and exploration). As a GW2 fan since release (I never played GW1 since I was a WoW player back then), I feel very sad.
See here, this is your problem. You compare GW2 with WoW or The Elder Scrolls which have a more serious tone. Although WoW has a cartoon like graphical style you take everything serious because of the way it is presented to you.
The Elder Scrolls by tradition has been a mature story with super serious characters and legends and also, so many years ( like WoW ) to establish a deep and compelling lore.
And you have Guild Wars 2 which has a more funny, whimsical take on it’s story which for most players, like yourself, is not enough to care about the characters, their dramas and so on.
I play both WoW and GW2. The first I play for the epicness of the story while GW2 I play for gameplay, mechanics and a more relaxing play session.
I know this is a recurring question but I feel this topic should be BUMPED once in a while so we make sure it is not forgotten:
Can we please get an option to remove or tone down the particle effects of spells, skills, items etc. ? It has a real impact on how gameplay looks and feels.
So, TL:DR, I think the devs need to get their Game of Thrones on, hedge the superfluous character tree a bit, assassinate Trahearne, break up the Pact and get some civil war between the Orders or something, because the black and white hero-slays-dragon-the-end story got old a long time ago.
Yes, please yes! I want to love the lore so much but it feels so childish and corny and I know it’s storytelling done in a different way but we need more conflicts between the factions that we encounter. The world is huge but it feels so small because everybody has the same goal: defeat the dragons. I want Divinity’s Reach to start a campaign against the centaurs. I want the Durmand Priory to fund an expedition beyond the current know borders of the world. I want the Order of Whispers to spy on the Consortium ( just some examples. I’m sure ANet can come up with better things). The local small skirmishes are so small and unimportant I don’t even care about them and I am a lore freak. I loved the Warcraft lore so much even though I hate WoW and this says something about their writers. I really hope they get things done because GW2 is an amazing game.
I tried the game for an hour about, Super fun. I’ll definitely love to finish the 3 campaigns at some point. But i’d rather play GW2 for now.. and yes I neeed those books too!
Im kind of a lore nut, I was with WoW as well which is probably why I played that game for so long. Now I really wanna get into the lore of Guild Wars
I was into WoW lore too and when I switched to GW2 I found it was pretty superficial. I like the game because it is better suited for the spare time I have now but I couldn’t ever get into the story and different factions, agendas…. I guess it’s tailored for a different kind of player.
Yes, I also experienced this bug. It’s no biggie just a little annoying I guess.
It’s been on my mind for some time now. After listening to the Guild Wars 2 soundtrack for so long I feel it doesn’t coexist very well with what’s going on in the world. It is very well composed and some themes really stand out but overall I think that it takes the epic out of the game and more than often they just miss entirely. I’ve started listening to The Lord of the Rings soundtrack while playing just because it’s more to my taste and suites the game better. What are your feelings on the game soundtrack?
Hey, I just got a Razer Abyssus and I noticed the scroll is not working in game. In any other game and software it works fine except Guild Wars 2. Any idea what it might be? I googled my issue and it seems some people had this problem but it was Mac related. I’m using a PC.
Hi,
After completing this heart the NPC Lionguard Auda doesn’t turn into a Karma vendor.
Diving Goggles are now unlocked account wise rather than per character.
Yeah, I agree. Would love to see it fixed.
Hey guys,
I started having some troubles with the game lately. I have no problems connecting and my frame rate is constant as was before but I’ve been experiencing minor game freezes that last about 0.5 seconds. I haven’t had this problem before and I believe it’s not a hardware issue since I haven’t changed anything and my other games and programs run ok . This happens at random times regardless of area population or skill effects. It’s not that of a big deal but there were times in which I missed a skill in sPvP because of this and I was wondering if it’s just me or have any of you experienced this problem.
I’m sure that ANet heard all the claims about story and lore but finding a good writer is not like buying an upgrade for your computer. Maybe they had something else in mind when they started the LS and now after getting all the feedback they will change course, one step at a time. I never got too involved with GW2’s story because I found the characters to be maybe a bit superhero-like for my taste.
I feel like I’m in some sort of superhero comic while Scarlet is Lex Luthor, hiring all sorts of bad guys to take care of her business. This is the main reason why I don’t get involved much with the game’s story so far. Also I hate my character and his wimpy moral choices .
Also, don’t get put down by the fact that some people flame you for “not waiting for the train”. If you see an event and think you can do it alone or with a few friends, go for it and don’t mind the chat.
ANet policy regarding content is do this and you will be fine, do it some other way and you will have a bad time. I get the boss mechanics thing they are trying to pull but for me it takes the fun out of fights since I have to follow a protocol. That “zerg” that you always bring into discussion is the product of game world being as it is and now they are trying to fix it by implementing all kinds of stuff that doesn’t go well with a lot of people which look for a fun fight and not a hard or full of fubar mechanics that need a ton coordination. As for the dungeons, I stopped doing them some time ago since I hate skipping content or using all kinds of glitches and exploits. I get the idea and I agree with it but since you skip parts then the dungeon has a poor design which is uninteresting and then why do it in the first place?
Some getting dc others not. What i know for sure – server FarShiverpeaks – Iron marches map – MAP RESETTING after every 1 to 3 minutes max…. just reset 6-7 times… everyone on map seeing it dynamic events reset so its a full map reset and everyone dc… other guildmates in other maps seem fine… some. Note its not a normal dc its a full map RESET
I second this, same thing happened to me, FarShiverpeaks – Iron Marches
It is not mandatory to do the Daily so I don’t see where’s the problem?
Yes, I did the same event thrice. I think we can just relax a little and try later, they will fix this issue.
