As the game is now a player can pay 100 gold to become a commander. Commanders are shown on the map with blue icons for all other players in the same zone to see.
Players should be able to purchase, or be rewarded, with a similar function to show their Guild Logo as a map marker position on the map that all other players in the map can see at their location. This would help coordinate and organize groups together for events on the map; as well as a form of guild representation. Commanders are mostly for WvW play, although it still shows the blue map marker when they are not in WvW; if they choose to show it.
I am looking forward to seeing the Guild changes coming with February’s game update. I enjoy playing the maps when the players use map chat to coordinate what events are going on, and where to go to get there. All we can do now is link the closest waypoint, or point of interest, into the chat and give directions on where to go and look for a red ping alert on the map. Which works pretty well and is a lot of the fun. Also can invite them to a party and set personal waypoints, and draw on the map… but that is a lot to go through and most people are unwilling to go through all that to share an event that is happening, or any of the, “hey come here and look at this”, moments.
Being able to open a map when you enter a zone and see map markers (show their guild logo) for where other players are at, who choose to show their position, to encourage grouping and representing a guild. With guilds dropping banners for events that are happening and encouraging other players on the map to come join the fight, and a guild if you choose too.
Thank you Arenanet for such a great game.

I hate using another game as an example, but it maybe best way to express the idea. Final Fantasy XI Online had a small, 3-line comment box that the player used to show their interests and ideas. For a small little box the players did quite well in advertising varied achievements, their guilds, their LFG status, or just give a nice hello message. (Even using the Auto-Translator feature.) I feel like a better version of this could be easily achievable and help the the Guild Wars community a lot.
A feature to examine another player ,or a guild, from in the game and see any comment they may have chose to display. Like viewing their equipment and maybe even learn a little bit about the “character” of the player. With the popularity of social media sites like Facebook and Twitter it is easy to see how a small comment box can advertise a lot.
A player can set their own “message of the day” that could be viewed by anyone who examined, or searched, for them. Like how guilds already use a message box that other guild mates can read the guild’s message.
I guess I’m suggesting letting players read other players’, or guild’s, thought bubbles. See what everyone standing around the bank is thinking…

I would like to suggest giving players some way to be able to view another player’s equipment. I’m sure this idea is probably on it’s way, but I didn’t find anything searching a little bit. Every other game has a feature to check another player’s equipment and see what they are wearing.
I know issues are being worked out on previewing items on a player as well; i.e from the Auction House or previewing armor that your profession does not equip. Being able to preview other player’s equipment and weapons on your own player would be a big part of wanting to view another player’s equipment too. So, I hope that if ArenaNet is working on fixing and streamlining the preview items system, that previewing another player’s equipment is on it’s way and kept in mind.
