remember everyone laughed at the idea of League of Legends becoming an esport back before the s1 $100k tournament prize at dreamhack in 2009.
Coincidentally, everyone laughed at it because it was ridiculously unpolished, so let’s hope there’s still hope for GW2 PvP with its current state.
Um league of legends, koreas top two teams just fell to a euro team in a recent major IEM tourny.
The #2 rated guild world wide in LOL is euro guild. But, generally asia takes its competitve video gaming way more seriously. In korea they broadcast top videogamers on tv.
It’s not a regular occurrence. Even the LoL championships were East-dominated.
The competitive Esport MMO’s have upwards of 30 keybinds. If you can’t handle 1 through 0, f1 f 2 f 3 f 4(14 keybinds), then I really don’t know what to say to you.
I don’t know of any MMOs that are considered competitive in PvP.
I think the best point against this argument is the fact that in almost every big esport ever (all of them, to my knowledge), the West (Europe included) has always, always fallen short to the likes of China and Korea. However, those games were still immensely popular in the West. So, I think we can count this reason out.
That’s not to say the system doesn’t need improvements, though.
No armor/build is wholly and completely worthless, due to how GW2’s class system works. No matter what you choose, you should still be able to contribute with level 80 exotic equipment, so if you like, you can just choose whatever suits your playstyle. If you want the absolute best contribution/DPS/etc. for your particular role, then I don’t think I can help you a whole lot there, since I don’t know about the number crunching for all of it.
I highly recommend getting a set of dungeon gear before getting crafted armor. If you’re paired with competent pugs/guildmates, your gear shouldn’t be a huge problem, and by the time you have the whole dungeon set, you should have a nice amount of gold, as well.
If you really wanted to buy a crafted set, then I can only recommend Valkyrie for a staff ele, because that’s what I use, and I think the stats it uses go very nicely with the way a staff ele plays – mainly power for AoE, some vit so you don’t always die in 2 shots, and I use Signet of Fire and some Precision traits along with a Berserker’s staff to help with my crit chance to make use of the crit damage. Soldier’s (power, toughness, vit) is a tank set, so I don’t recommend that, but I have seen eles pull it off before (though I don’t know how).
