Its at under load.
My normal idle temperature is usually at 25°-32° depending on ambient temperatures in my room.
So I noticed a major thing with GW2 ever since I upgraded my computer from an AMD based system to a Intel one. GW2 really does not play nicely with Intel i7 Processors.
My computer specs are
OS: Windows 10 Professional
CPU: i7-4790K @ 4.0 ghz and @4.4 ghz stock turbo
RAM: 16 GB Corsair XMS3 @ 1600 mhz
Cooler: Cooler Master Hyper 212
GPU: Powercolor R9 390
Mobo: Asus Z-97 AR
PSU: XFX TS 750 watt gold efficiency rated.
I play at highest settings on 1600×900 resolution.
I noticed with hyper threading enabled, I lose massive amount of frames, and get quite a bit of stuttering. When I disable hyper threading, the problems basically disappear.
I realize that GW2 doesn’t / can’t utilize hyper threading… which is totally fine with me, but the question is why does it actually have an adverse effect? Is there not something you can do about it? Because none of the other games I play suffers from any noticeable problems from hyper threading being active despite the fact that they don’t make use of it.
The second thing I noticed is with CPU turbo boost enabled, my computer itself, not the game client crashes every 5-10 minutes while playing GW2. After disabling CPU turbo boost, my game becomes extremely stable, where I can play hours on end without a computer crash.
This is also weird issue exclusive to GW2. I realize that turbo boost is basically “overclocking” thus can cause system instability… but the fact is that is Intel’s stock turbo boost speed, which isn’t even all that high of an overclock. But the fact is I play numerous other games, that are also CPU intensive that cause my CPU to run at turbo speeds, but yet my computer never crashes playing them. Also I do a lot of video rendering, where my CPU is turboing for hours on end, so I know my computer can stably turbo to 4.4 ghz for long duration of time without any issues. I monitored my CPU temperature it was operating in a safe and normal temperature of 55°-60°C underload. So it definitely isn’t over heating.
And I want to note I keep all my drivers updated, I check for new driver updates every month. So its not due to outdated drivers.

So if bought the original game already, is there any discount for Heart of Thorns or do we have to pay full price for the expansion?
I don’t doubt that it is possible to make money with crafting but it requires a significant amount of effort to find the product. It is ok that it requires effort so the amount is debatable. I also doubt that it is more profitable than just playing the (rest of) the game. I believe it requires a significant upfront investment making it less possible for some players and have a certain risk that your items not sell.
You can make money with crafting but it is not easy, which is OK.
However:
Darksteel Helmet Casing highest buy price 1s
Darksteel Ingot highest buy price 2s17c
Platinum Ore highest buy price 2*88c = 1s76c
….Ingredients price is significantly higher than crafted item price. This is true for a lot of items.
This means that (if I dare to say for the casual player) crafting such items, and you need to craft such items to level your crafting, wastes a lot of money.
So why should someone craft?
- Legendary: yes but if you do you already have enough gold that you don’t care
- XP: yes but there is so much XP that it is not necessary
- getting stats: currently not since there is enough supply on TP which is cheaper
- skins: currently not since there is enough supply on TP which is cheaper
So IMO, crafting is currently only good for legendary which is not an option for some(/many?) players. There should be more to crafting!
I agree with this guy right here.
The time you spent studying the market you could of went around farming anything in this game and made better money.
When I first started playing the game I wanted to craft to make my own gear… but then I realize I lost money and time if I tried to craft my gear. Cause raw materials sell way more than the price you buy the final object something. You buy what you want, and would still have money left over for a profit.
Takes way less time. So yes crafting is pretty useless for anything but making Legendaries unless you like making money very slowly and inefficiently.
You got achievement points for using those tokens didn’t you? Obviously you got paid for using them since Achievement Points unlock those chest that give you items, gold, skins, and account bound MF.
Also it is your own fault if you dropped/destroyed tokens. I didn’t use mine and had to lug them around wasting space in my inventory the entire time. So it isn’t anyone’s fault except your own.
… well they have completed their mission of clearing out the hordes of players in Cursed Shores. The place hardly gives anything decent and now a days
I have a stack of Ectos that would disagree…
(and I wasn’t even going for ectos… I was doing the content each day b/c some of NSP’s guilds sponsor it every day and setting up the Pre’s gives someone like me who needs a purpose, something interesting & socially relevant to do that isn’t Farming).
A stack of ectos means nothing, I hardly even play the game and I walk around in plains of ashford killing moas and harpies and I still get rares.
Most low level areas give you item drops for almost 3/4 kills, cursed shores for some reason only drops items 1/5 kills.
Sure the items they drop are worth less, but yet they drop so often, and the monsters are so much easier to kill so you actually get more.
The point of the thread is not to comment about drop values, the point is to say the reason why these areas are deserted is because they are all the same with a different cosmetic masking. Combination of recycled events that and poor drop quality is sad.
And you say you only showed up to the area because other guilds sponsor events for it? Kinda proves the point that some of these areas are so bad other people have to pay you to show up to them.
Areas on the maps should be self inviting, not be so crippled that guilds have to sponsor events for people to show up.
I remember back in October of 2012, Cursed shores was actually lined with players, every where I go would encounter at least 3 or 4 players. The events in front of the Gates of Arah use to have 20-40 there at all times. Now walk to the are in front of the gates, not a single person around for the most part. Just 1 or 2 people farming crafting materials.
Cursed shores has a lot of fun events, the only problem is half of them are bugged, while other areas seem to work fine but are what I have been referring to as the same old recycled garbage throughout the game that have no uniqueness.

I know it is probably hard to keep what I said straight since my post was very sloppy but I did say I don’t do Fractals because they are not fun. Same with World Bosses/Dragons regardless of what they offer.
Ascended items are pretty nice, but they aren’t decent incentive for me to do Fractals about 26 times to get one thing. Not to mention even if they were… that leaves the question what is the purpose of getting them? The PVE world isn’t as nearly as challenging enough to warrant wasting time grind for those items, and if some is challenging enough then it isn’t something that you can solo anyways and is something that Anet wants you to do as a group.
They might help in WvW, but then again all that time you wasted grind Fractals could of been spent helping in WvW, not to mention in WvW if you have exotics then you should be fine since that part of the game is more player skill base then gear base.
This game only has honestly 5 things to do. Jumping Puzzles, WvW, sPvP which basically limited small scale WvW, effortless Open PvE grind, and PvE Dungeon grinding except monsters are way tankier and hit harder and way fewer of them.
This game lacks all the other aspects that other Rpg games have to offer. Which I really have no issue with. But what I have an issue with is when it only has these 5 things, 2 of them being PvE… which are probably the 2 most important ones because every player starts out doing PvE, and needs PvE to level early on and get gear. WvW may be fun and all but it takes much longer to level in WvW and much slower gold farming, and obviously people get bored of WvW after so much of it. They go to PvE and find that it is receptive and very unrewarding in terms of enjoyment. Not to mention Anet wants you to go to every area of the game, but yet some areas are completely neglected in maintenance, where half of the area is bugged. Poor loot quality, lack of interesting things to do in the area, and half of the area is bug… Anet sees this says better nerf the loot rate of the places that give decent loot so people will go to these forsaken places.
Instead of fixing the bugs, and giving the area better stuff… they decide to downgrade better areas to meet the same conditions as the forsaken areas… which all that does is make ever PvE area forsaken, and players leave the game.

I find it so ironic that a game selling line was that GW2 isn’t designed for grinding. But the question is what is there to do in GW2 other than grind?
I use to play LotRO, the game took forever to level, but it had a ton of other stuff going for it. It had houses, emotes, actually fun and different dungeons/instances where the npcs actually did different things, it also had food and drinks that helped with roleplay.
This game all it is grind for gear basically, and cosmetic skins. There isn’t anything fun about the open world events.
So instead of releasing new content that is always the same garbage over and over that are different but yet have no real differences, spend some time fixing bugs and fix existing content. WvW isn’t going to keep people interested forever, and all the obsessive grinders will one day get all the skins they want and when that happens they will say what is there else to do? And they realize nothing… and they leave the game. Perfect example of this is all the people that get their Legendaries, then they just quit after because they did all the grinding and they realize there isn’t any thing to do.
Because with the current motto of neglect it is like oh hey I bought a hamster and I forgot to buy it some food, oh it died, oh well lets get a new hamster, oh forgot to feed the new one, oh well lets get another one. And it is like putting the new hamster in the same cage as all the previous ones without even take bodies out. It is just bad.
This game has great combat, but it is severely lacking in everything else, and the combat system is stale because everything is the same.
Back when this game first came out, other people defended the game using the excuse oh it is a new game, give it some time to fix the bugs and new content. It has been nearly a year, now the new excuse I hear is that it is an old game and people get bored and find a new game, it is not worth fixing the bugs, etc. This speaks a ton about the quality of this game. The first excuse was acceptable, but the second excuse is ridiculous. Is Anet so bad that all they can’t even make a stable game that fixes bugs in the main areas that players are suppose to be? Not to mention I recall the point of being Level 80 is so that I can be in Level 80 areas, not be force to go to low leveled areas and get scaled down.
(edited by Numenor.3280)
I honestly don’t know where to start in this thread.
I find it quite disappointing that some how Anet decides to release new content every 2 weeks but never fixes basic bugs in places like Orr.
They use to complain about how everyone was at Cursed Shores and how they wanted people to leave or and go other places in the game… well they have completed their mission of clearing out the hordes of players in Cursed Shores. The place hardly gives anything decent and now a days and the same old bugs are still there. The map is basically deserted except for Shelter Way Point and Camp Penitent
People have left the map and the game… and Anet still sits there and wonders why they are loosing players and what they can do better? Well for one fix bugs… release something new, and I don’t mean this recycled stuff they keep doing such as Jumping Puzzels, or another dungeon that is the same all the others. When will they realize that tanky silvers and champions that hit hard got old in their normal dungeons?
GW2 really is an upside down Pyramid and it is beginning to follow the path of another game that I play called Combat Arms. Keep releasing new stuff without making sure your basic ground support is stable. Just picture an upside down pyramid, its top heavy and will fall down after a certain point.
The game has I believe 3 level 80s areas? Frostgorge, Cursed Shores, and South Sun Cove? Shouldn’t these be the places that players want to be? Yet for the most part all these places are empty except for Frostgore when the Claw of Jormog is up.
PVE is extremely boring… Why? Because almost anyone can sit there and not do anything but stand there and spam their auto with no real challenge. All the hearts and events are all the same thing. Oh escort a caravan, defend a camp, oh camp gets captured well take a worthless npc and recapture it, kill 25 of this or that.
Why would anyone want to leave a level 80 area when basically the entire game is the same thing with different object models, especially when lower level areas give you less valuable loot?
Dungeons its the same thing over and over except just different character meshs and different scenery, tanky silvers that have boring attacks that are no different from normal PVE except they hurt a lot more. Then we got champions that having boring obvious attack patterns.
For instance Giaganticus Lupicus only has like 4 attacks, Rains AoE missiles, Little Bubble, Shadow Walk, and Life Steal. All are very predictable and the same exact pattern over and over. There is just no randomness to it or anything fun other than rolling out of giant AoE circles. Same with the Flaming Effingy in CoF Path 1, AoE Flame Blast, Flame Thrower, and Knock Flame Attack. Giant Risens all they do is stomp, throw grubs.
Like first of all if the NPCs actually attacked and fought like how they do in WvW that would be a big step up. Make more of them… things like Risens are suppose to be a nearly Endless horde, yet I walk around and they are all scattered and so few of them.
Actually give the NPCs that are on the player side an actual role and make them useful and unique. The events I do in Queensdale are basically the same events I do in Orr or Frostgorge. Instead of Seraph a companying me I get Vigil Crusaders, Priory Scholars, or Whisper Agents that don’t do anything except die, and have basically the same attacks as each other.
There are world bosses, and dragons… the most boring things ever. Just a bunch of people standing around auto attacking at something for 15 minutes.
Anet tries to get players to do things simply because they give you an Ascended Item or a Rare which is the most fail mentality ever. Sure a lot of people show for world bosses for the guaranteed rare, but hardly anyone shows up because it is fun. Even with the promise of a Rare I don’t do them because I apparently have more fun walking about killing Moas in Plains of Ashford than standing around Auto Attacking a Giant Dragon that doesn’t even really fight back and all it does is fear or knock you down.
Also lets not forget Fractals, same old thing over and over. People do CoF because all the dungeons are the same except CoF pays better. They have differences that aren’t different. All Fractals is basically 3 dungeons in one with the chance of getting Ascended gear.
I obviously don’t grind Fractals for Ascended Gear because I am not gonna do the same old boring thing over and over gear that hardly makes a different, and it also leaves me with the question of what the hell am I suppose to do with Ascended Gear when there is no end game content?
World bosses don’t fight back, dungeons can be pulled off easily with rare gear with a decent group, and normal NPC monster in open world PVE aren’t even a challenge?
Also I forgot to mention, but there is a bug in AC EM Path 1 thats been there since the last patch. The part where you defend Hodgins and you’re suppose to kill the burrows. If you stand behind Hodgins you see that there is a little chair that has been knocked over on the left of Hodgins. Whenever a Graveling stacks on the chair it becomes invulnerable and starts attacking Hodgins, and its really hard to get it to agro a different person and causes a major problem since you can’t kill it while it slowly eats Hodgin’s health.
Crafting your way up cost more like 60 gold… Its about I believe 5-8 gold average for a profession. Not to mention cooking is a pain in the butt to do.
Anyways if you do plan to craft your way up, a good guild on how to do it would be this website. http://www.guildwars2-crafting.com/crafting-guides/
I never understood how DR helped to fight bots… bots are bots they will always be able mass farm whatever they are going for. To be honest I think this is why they keep DR.
For instance lets say money. If a bot makes lets say 6 gold an hour times 24 hours, thats 144 gold. They sell the gold on the blackmarket and make like $60, thats enough to buy another gw2 in one day. DR comes out like a month later, whoever did the botting already made a bunch of money.
So DR cuts bot profit down to lets say 4 gold an hour? Well what does it matter? The botter already sets up like 10 more bots from their profit, and easily makes up for measily 2 gold decrease not to mention making a ton of more gold. And hey the botter has so much gold that he even sells it at a discount price. Better than the Gem Store rate.
Which then causes inflation on gems, and in game items. All the while normal players are hit hard with DR. Their farm yields diminishing returns with increasing inflation. Which then just makes it so much more tempting to buy black market gold.
Then of course who profits from this cycle? Well black market gold sellers, botters, and anet does of course. How does profit Anet you ask? Well every time they ban a botter’s account the botters needs another account to keep themselves in business so they buy another game. Not to mention DR makes it less efficient for botters to farm gold but thats why they just buy more games and set up more bots.
Which in turns just means more inflation and anet releasing stricter DR. The basic player great screwed over more, which increases the demand for black market gold, which repeats to the point where DR are is so ridiculous that most people eventually quit the game. I don’t think anet cares about that since you already gave them $60, and the people that stay are gonna cough up money for black market gold and the botters and black market gold sellers are gonna cough up $60 for new accounts when they get banned or need more bots to farm.
What they need to do is get rid of DR and have better anti-bot detection scripts such as is this character flying across the map faster than humanly possible where there isn’t a waypoint (referring to the bots the gather crafting materials). Or are these characters doing the same thing over and over in a non human pattern or sequence such as 100+ identical keystrokes in less than minute.
Cause seriously players shouldn’t be punished for the shortcomings of in game security mechanics. Especially since the method anet is doing at the moment creates more demand for black market gold, and hardly affects botters at all while it cripples normal players. I really don’t see the reason to continue going down this path other than they making money off it and don’t care.

I think you are only speaking for yourself. I don’t find the new AC much harder at all. The mechanics are different not harder. All it is going to take is for people to learn and get used to them. I like having actual purpose for things like the Scepters you help Hodgins build, the Traps for Detha, and finding Warmaster Grant to help take out the problems in AC. It’s awesome. To me it was rather fun once we figured it out and begin frankly honest, once we did, the run went so much quicker then it normally does since all the bosses and mobs have lower health then they did before.
The mechanics didn’t make it harder, the mechanics made it take longer and takes it completely out of the control of players. For instance the champion scavenger, it literally just sits their invulnerable for about 10 seconds and it does nothing but wastes time. Before the only thing that really affected the time factor was your dps and how well you kite which you can decide. Now its that and then a pointless time handicap.
The invulnerably doesn’t have any purpose unless something bugged, all it does is waste time unnecessarily.
The Spider Hatchlings are harder than the Spider Queen. They are tanky, there a lot of them so you can’t really their attacks dodge. Both parties I was in today, my party and I died more times to the 3-4 waves of Spider Hatchlings than the Spider Queen. My the groups I was in wiped about 3 times each to the Hatchling, the Spider Queen like I said is boring cause all I had to do and could do was stand around and shoot it with my bow. Which defeats the goal stated in the patch notes, which was to make the dungeons more challenging and fun. Standing around and auto attacking a boss with my bow is neither challenging or fun.
The Gravelings at the Howling King, are just more annoying than challenging. Like I said before the Scavenger’s perma knock down is bs. Whats the point of being knocked down and hopelessly watch graveling gnaw your butt until you’re down? Even with the trait that activates endure pure as a warrior that allows you to take no damage for 5 seconds doesn’t save you from that perma down.
The Howling King had a problem before… he was to easy, he still has that problem. He is even easier now, but his adds are ridiculous with the number of knock downs and this is what I am complaining about. People shouldn’t be stuck helplessly in a knock down position and have gravelings dribble you around the room like a basket ball till you die.
Its just like situation with the Risen Purifers in Orr, getting killed by a mob of npcs is fine, but being pulled or knocked around the battle field helplessly where you can’t attack back is stupid. I personally don’t enjoy that and I pretty sure most people don’t.
To me it just seems that AC is geared towards Elementalist or Necros with AoEs.
Like Spiders Hatchlings… 3 Elementalist… pop AoE then hide behind the Wall next to stairs. Spider Queen… AoE the boss then just sand in between the circles. Part with Hodgins and the burrows, 2 ice bows each, and the AoE meteor shower thing and that would be done without much trouble. Howling King, AoE mobs, and ice bow again and gg.
If you play as a warrior like I do, and try to melee you’re gonna have a bad time. You stand around and range with a bow you’re gonna be pretty bored and you might as well of made a ranger.
(edited by Numenor.3280)
The Burrows are really easy to kill now, at least on the amount of time it takes to dps them.
I did 1 hundred blades, a spin and like 4 autos with my exotic mf greatsword and full mf gear and it would be dead.
Before It would take like 3 hundred blades with full exotic beserkers, and quite a few autos.
Though I agree Spider Hatchlings and Gravelings Hatchlings are way to tanky and they shouldn’t of increased their hp.
The point is not whether people get use to it or not. The point is this game lacks interesting features to keep people interested and changes like the ones made to AC makes it less enjoyable and overly long.
I am pretty sure people wanna see something along the lines of:
Short, fun and challenging.
Long, fun, challenging and rewarding.
Not hard, boring, and long.
Cause this equals bored kitten off people who sit get and get aggravated for an unnecessary extended amount of time.
This game lacks things to do, basically its jps, dungeons, farm grind, map completion and wvw.
Map completion and farm grind is basically the same thing, so is dungeoning at the moment. wvw and jps are eh.
This game lacks the most important things MMORPGs need to have, the role playing and social aspect. Like there are hardly any emotes in this game, when you eat and drink stuff the animation is basically your character touches their mouth.
wvw is always the same and its boring, farming is the same on every game but the question is would I rather farm on a game that I can have fun roleplaying and doing other things or farm for a game that has nothing to offer.
Dungeons are repetitive and boring and most people only do them for the tokens or easy guaranteed 70 silvers – 1.1 gold, but now they are repetitive, boring, long, and hard which completely takes away the purpose of doing them other than for the skins.
And the new stuff they keep releasing is a difference without a difference. Seriously bored of Grinding Dungeons!? Well here is something new for you, its called FotM and its another dungeon that is 3 dungeons at once that is randomized! Oh bored of doing that? Well here have a Christmas dungeon!
If the answer to being bored of dungeons is more dungeons, then at least make the dungeons interesting not just regurgitated stuff that has a different cosmetic appearance.
(edited by Numenor.3280)
I have only done AC explorer mode path 1 and I am beginning to doubt I even want to play this game anymore.
I know the goal of revamping dungeons is to make them more challenging but seriously they are not at all more fun or reasonable changes for enjoyment. I really can’t imagine a group of level 35s with greens or blues doing AC anymore, much more any pre level 80s trying to do AC, TA, CM
The spider and graveling hatchlings hp shouldn’t of been upped… they are way to tanky, especially since in a group they spam way to many attacks.
The Spider queen’s AoE circles are ridiculously large not to mention they seem to last about about 20 seconds so it makes it almost impossible not to walk into. Its dodge one just to roll into another one. Not to mention the crazy immobilize now.
Condition removal is almost pointless because you break out or the immobilize or remove the poison just to get stacked up with some more poison or immobilize immediately right after.
Sure the Spider Queen is squishier than before so its easier to kill, but the amount of times you go down makes it harder than it should be. Not to mention its pretty much suicidal to try to mainly melee the Queen because of the AoE circles which kinda defeats the purpose of being Warrior.
Like I did AC yesterday and all the times before I could actually effectively melee the Spider Queen with a good bit of kiting. Today I couldn’t do anything but stand in one tiny spot in between giant AoE poison circles and range the Spider Queen.
Then the Champion Stalker after Queen was super lame and not at all more fun to fight. If it goes invisible fine, but invulnerable!!!? It doesn’t make it anymore challenging or fun, its just annoying like the Champion Dredge that stacks bleeds on you in SE and wastes time.
Kholer I really have nothing to comment about him, nothing is really different about him other than he spawns 2 lame adds that just waste like 5 seconds to kill. Which of course makes it a bit more difficult to kill him since they waste your dps and maybe some of your health. But as always lame and all it did was waste a bit more time.
The Howling King was extremely lame. Just a bunch of stupid adds with knock backs, and the scavenger with the kitten perma knock down that is guaranteed to down you is kitten Sure it makes it more challenging, but fun or rewarding? Not at all. Again just a waste of time and in game gold for repairs.
Honestly how do you expect someone to successful dodge those? They have pbaoe, and if you manage to dodge like 2-4 of those pounces in a dodge the other like 4 will get you. And by some miracle you manage to actually successfully dodge twice the pounces are like a machine gun, they just keep coming and coming and you’re screwed because your endurance is recharging. And the poor person trying to revive you has to worry about the same thing.
So unless you’re planning to make rolling infinite with like a 1 second cool down path 1 is not possible to successfully play through the path without dying or going down a few times even if you are a decent or good kiter unless you are really lucky. Which completely baffles me about the entire no zerg respawn concept. Is your goal that we don’t die and come back 1 by 1 like 5 times each but have us all die and come back like 15 times as a group?
Seriously if you want to make the game more fun, get rid of the lame oh I am just gonna give these npcs a ton of armor and hp and bump up their damage. Give them some interesting attacks and make them have more random attack patterns. Or make the monster npcs weaker, and more of them, and actually have them be able to fight like the guards do in WvW. Also maybe make the npcs that stand around and do nothing like the ones in CoF actually help you out.

I don’t know if you still need an answer to this but there are Soldier trinkets, they are quite costly to acquire and take a bit of time to do so… Almost all of the exotic soldier trinkets are a result of mystic forge…
So all the exotic soldier accessories I know of are…
