During some dynamic events it can sometimes be impossible to discern if a body has that “sparkly” effect around it or if a player is downed when everybody is spaming their abilities. Heck it can be hard to see “loot sparkles” if the ground is a sandy color and no other players are around! [Or post dynamic event when there are piles of centaur bodies on the ground] It would also be helpful for finding drops in the more hectic WvW battles were you might not have the opportunity to comb the battle sight at you leisure later.
Possible solutions for making lootable bodies, downed players, and smaller bosses easier to see:
- Auto loot option. I don’t know about you but there has never been a time where I saw a sparkly body and decided not to investigate it to see if something useful dropped. Making changes to the UI wouldn’t be necessary (for this instance) at that point.
- Option to change the color of the “loot sparkle” effect
- Option to make lootable bodies or downed player visible through everything. Basically everything between you and the object would get super translucent. Almost x-ray like.
- An “assassin’s creed style” vision mode that temporarily washes out all textures and highlights loot/players in a brightly colored silhouettes.
If the squad leader is incompetent then people won’t follow for long.
True. But how much damage is done before everyone figures out their commander is an idiot?
And when you are logging into WvW for the first time how do you know you not following an idiot everybody else is ignoring?
I guess the same can be said for real life armies but at least you know that those commanders didn’t just buy their way in.
Hmm, interesting take.
If I see that my first pet got downed quickly, I switch and set it to peaceful. Then when one of my party gets downed I used the “search and rescue” ability, then send them to attack while its on cool down. I used that one A LOT in my last dungeon run. I don’t considered rallying a party member “lost output”…
Am I the only one that wonders why the only qualification for becoming a commander is gold related?
I would have though a thorough understanding of how WvW works would have been better metric of who is fit to lead. Since the game tracks everything a player does why not make time in WvW, objectives completed. etc, the things that unlock commander?
Maybe things have gotten better since the first days when I tried WvW but the lack of true leaders really put a hamper on coordination and the “noise” in the map chat is barely useful. Regardless, here’s hoping for more qualified squad commanders because we need them!
I know there is a similar thread(s) about down leveling in story missions being a problem. I get that, and maybe the solution is to remove that. But I think the problem is more in the design of the missions.
Some missions are relatively straight forward, some might even call them easy. And in some you are dying so much that all your armor is broken and the ending cinematic is you in your underwear (if you just don’t quit out of frustration). I haven’t had the latter happen until last night doing a mid-40 lvl story mission. Now I’m not the most uber player out there but I’m not idiot. I think I have a handle on my character by level 45+.
The fact that I kept dying over and over again COMPLETELY took me out of the flow of the story. And the focus of these mission is on the story right? It was not fun and I debated whether I should do something else non-Guild Wars related for a while. I stuck with it out of sure stubbornness but was that what the devs intended to happen? For me to continue to play out of spite?
Problems I’ve noticed over the handful of “hard” missions (not sure what else to call them):
- Usually ALL my npc “helpers” wipe extremely early leaving me to solo 5-10 mobs the same lvl as me or higher.
- Death penalties still apply and there is armor breakage with no opportunity to get it fixed unless you give up all your story progress.
My suggestions would be to do one or all of the following:
- Make some of the npcs “un-downable” so at least some aggro is being pulled off the human player so they can engage in a more manageable fight or rez other, downed npcs.
- Have npc helpers already rezed when you reload from check point.
- Make armor unbreakable during story missions. Because if your dying so much that your armor is unwearable how is a naked character going to help you get through any better?
- Maybe take another run through of the story lvl missions now that they are out in the wild. They may need to have fundamental changes made to make them more accessible
- Include a hardcore story mode for player who think the current difficulty spikes is flawless as is.
I know there is an option to bring people along into story missions and it should stay that way, optional. I feel sorry for any new MMO players who may not have the skill/patience to endure things as they currently stand.
