Most NA servers "FULL" around the clock

@Blaeys.3102: The problem with the idea that there is more to MMOs than playing with friends is that this is a cart-before-the-horse issue. Any design where players can’t play with friends is a failure.

The current state of this game is worse than all the others that have come before it in this sense, and until this is rectified, the current game design has failed.

Sure there are other issues going on for long term health, but failing to allow friends to play together is the largest error that could possibly be made in a game like this. Friend networks are how these games are sold and how they persist.

[…]people will join the top few servers that are ranked in WvWvW Tier 1 and Tier 2 . NObody wants to join bottom […]

For my own part I couldn’t give a hoot (kitten) about high population or WvWvW rank, and that’s why I picked a server with population “medium”. Which is now “full”.

This isn’t a matter of one most popular server, anyway. This is a matter of them all coming up near or full nearly all the time.

As long as there is one world that isnt full then you have a way to join up with your friends

This is wrong, because it presupposes that my friend network is a single entity that has a unified mind, and moreover that we can all be assured of reliably transferring as a unit. Neither of these things are true.

tl;dr: you didn’t read what I wrote, since this was already addressed.

Just wait for the guesting feature to be implemented.

This isn’t acceptable because:

1 – Then I can’t WvW(vW) with friends
2 – All we’ve heard about guesting is that it isn’t coming soon

The problem is, there’s a few servers who are still completely empty, and nobody wants to move there.

No, there are no servers that have a value below high at any point around the clock. I’ve been checking.

I joined a “medium” server back when I bought the game, and have been inviting friends to join me on Yak’s Bend. At this point, one of my newly joined friends cannot get his home server to Yak’s Bend anymore, because it appears to be “FULL” at all times of the day, all days of the week.

I can’t play with my friend at all. I even bought him the game for us to play together.. for nothing?

I am not willing to transfer my account to a “high” server. It might be full next week. I’ll have to convince my various friends to all transfer as well, or i wont’ be able to play with them, so that could be an even worse outcome than the current one.

I’m happy to play on overflow, so this whole situation seems absurd. I’d even be willing to roll a new character on a new server to play with my additional friend, but the game doesn’t let me.

This demands remedy. Please outline your plans to allow friends to play together in the future.

Well, I don’t feel it too strongly, as not really intending to do a lot of endgame, but I would prefer no raidy gear progression system.

In the other locked thread, Gaile Gray stated that one could “click cancel” to dismiss the message about changing one’s password.

I cannot find this item to click. Please assist.

This would be more acceptable if you let users set their password to the same value as before, while having it checked against the blacklist.

Of course, as Mike has claimed you have no access to passwords, you shouldn’t be able to even check it against a blacklist unless you provide the blacklist to us (in software running our our systems). Therefore, you could just provide the blacklist in plaintext, so we could evaluate if you are correct and then just clear the message.

Or you could provide a hashdb of the password blacklist.

Or you can retract the claim that you have no access to our passwords if you check them server-side.

I think that’s a great idea because it accomplishes two things: Stops the reminder messages and, more importantly, increases your account security.

To be honest, this is security theatre. Changing your password one single time does not increase account security. It might even reduce it. Telling people that changing their password one single time will increase their security is mis-training people about security, which decreases security.

Moreover, a warning that I know is wrong also decreases security, because I know that your warnings aren’t worth following, so it decreases your ablity to convey security issues accurately in the future.

That’s fine and all, but let us turn the warning off. My password is unique to my gw2 account, 20 characters long, and if it gets compromised, so will any password I change it to.

I run my own mail provider, and I do my own intrusion detection there. I have unique passwords for everything. The last thing I need is an application crying wolf at me.

If you want to improve security, change your website so that the password is never sent, even via https, but rather a javascript-generated response to a challenge/response is sent. And do the same thing in the game client. Then the only way it will be intercepted is if the local (user’s) system is hacked. After that the next thing to do would be to make the client avaialble on Linux where the local system isn’t so easily hacked.

For the love of all that is good in the land, plz shut up vendors!

I’d suggest putting some minimum on the timer for repeating identical recordings in most circumstances. Maybe in some combat/story scenario you might need to hear them, but in town hearing anyone repeat themselves often is just annoying as well as immersion damaging. Considering that these phrases are here specifically to provide immersion, it seems an easy choice.

Offtopic but…

The original definition of trolling (circa usenet 1990) was to intentionally introduce discord into a discussion without meaning to seem to do so. This could be by producing false statements (a clumsy method) or to simply state seemingly innocent views with the intent of triggering a flamewar among the participants.

Over the years, usage has shifted. Nowadays it is used rather loosely to mean either intentionally introducing discord via any means, or to simply be ridiculously hostile to the point of humor (from someone’s perspective, not all).

I meant it in the means that you’re rather intentionally introducing discord. Which you were.

However now you’re straw manning the discussion by suggesting people here don’t want to improve, which is more classical trollish action.

I really love the jumping puzzles, but I understand they’re not going to work for all players. When I read about the game ahead of buying, it seemed ArenaNet understood they had to be made optional. That they’re in a personal story (without advance warning!) seems quite unfortunate.

Have to say I agree completely with Korval.

The only quest I’ve encountered on my Sylvari Engineer so far that was completely broken was Source of the Issue, where there’s a bout 4 square yards of out-of-the-water space, and I got killed in around 15 seconds while trying to avoid damage, my party members being totally useless of course.

I went and read suggestions online on how to complete it (the wiki is actively misleading, suggesting a method which must have been patched out — attacking the enemies from a place where they cannot attack you, which just sets them invunlerable.) I tried a variety of methods. At my 10th attempt or so (with a long run back each time), I managed to pull the enemies underwater pretty much one at a time. A technique which could not have been possibly attempted on the first attempt.

So I view this quest as completely broken. Impossible to succeed at the first time.

However, over 50% of the story quests (mostly those involving combat) leading up to this point were also not fun. I chose the moon as a Sylvari so my first sequence involved the knight and his betrothed. The NPCs were never helpful and the number of opponents extreme, so if i played “to win the battle” i just wound up dead. Instead I had to do silly kite and pull techniques which went directly against the story context.

Meanwhile, my experience with “Source of the Issue” soured me enough on the Story events, that I’m dreading doing another, and may just never do so unless I hear they get fixed.
