I’m having this problem, along with massive input lag. This started happening… friday, give or take. Maybe as far back as wednesday.

I’m still having this problem. Any tips?

Charr should have been the main enemy. Undead are boring and repetitive.

You act like races like the Asura don’t actually tell you they want to take over the world. And the humans were the same way when they initially came to Tyria. While the charr on the other hand seem to only want to keep Ascalon besides the Flame Legion which are exactly the type of charr you’re talking about.

I think the more truthfull version of that is the Asura plan to inherit Tyria, not conquer it. Theres a big difference between those two lines of actions.

The Charr sucks, they make even orcs in most other fantasy stories look really nobel.

Most orcs in fantasy aren’t “nobel”. It’s really only Warcraft and Elder Scrolls. In almost any other fantasy franchise, the orcs are pretty much jerks.

I was guessing the “senate” (as put forth in the early, likely abandoned lore) was founded ~50 years ago, when Elona fell and refugees flooded there. Jennah is not more than 40 years old.

Ah, see, I was going off the information from the Movement of the World Wiki page which purports to be text verbatim from PCgamer.

http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/The_Movement_of_the_World

That said, it doesn’t actually refer to MINISTERS, but SENATORS: who don’t actually appear in the game. I get the impression that the original story idea for Senators became Ministers, and that’s probably not-canon (as is the origin of the Senate/Ministry being in the provisional refugee government and being established only in Jennah’s reign).

I concede your point, but it still unfortunately doesn’t prove that there’s a constitution.

This has been going on for the past few days- starting with the patch, I guess. I’ll be playing when all of a sudden my character’s skills will stop working and I can no longer attack. I can see other people moving and using skills, and they can obviously attack so SOME sort of data is coming in and I’m not just getting DC’d. I’m dying way too often to low level enemies that I can’t even fight while downed, and once I’m dead-dead, I can’t even pick a waypoint to move to!

Does Kryta have a written constitution?

I was under the impression that the ministry was founded relatively recently- when all of the calamities began befalling Tyria (the planet) and Kryta recieved a large refugee population. At the least, it wouldn’t have been during Salma’s reign. Do you have a citation for that? Not that I don’t necessarily believe you, I just haven’t come across that bit of lore.

Why do ascalonian ghosts get cannons?

Cannon usually predate firearms. Even if the Charr invented “guns” in the sense of hand-held portable firearms, cannon have been in use for at least 250 years.

Does Kryta have a written constitution?

The other day I was having an argument with someone about the government of Kryta, and referred to it as a “constitutional monarchy”. My opponent, uninformed as he was, pointed out that Kryta didn’t have a constitution and thus couldn’t be a constitutional monarchy, even though the most well known constitutional monarchy on Earth is that of the UK, with an unwritten constitution. That said, he did bring up an interesting question: whether or not Kryta actually has a constitution?

As such, do we know, or can we infer, that Kryta has anything similar to a constitution, bill or declaration of rights, or anything of the sort? We know that almost everyone can be elected to the Ministry and it does not discriminate on social or ethnic origin, we know that the Ministry wields some degree of power to check that of the monarchy, we know that Krytan citizens are entitled to a trial (even if nothing is said of a jury), and that ancient laws entitle the claimant to prove his innocence through combat rather than evidence… the question, I suppose, is if these are written down in a document succinct enough to be called a “constitution” or not.

1. Divinity’s Reach is a Krytan city. Krytans were originally a Elonan colony, eventually they mixed with the Ascalonians and the race ended up having a Brazilian/Sicilian look to them. When you walk around the city you see very few people that look like this. But the interesting thing is that Queen Jennah the leader of the city looks this way. How interesting that the Queen of the city looks this way but the majority of her people do not.

Kryta was originally an Elonian colony, but do we know if the population of Kryta was ever mostly Elonian? Just because a state was historically under another state’s control doesn’t mean mass migrations occurred. Britain was a Roman colony, but its population was never significantly Latin and remained mostly Celtic until the Viking and Saxon invasions. As for the aesthetics of the Krytans, I’m not seeing that many explicitly pale individuals, though one thing to consider is the fact that Kryta seems to have a temperate, rather than Mediterranean climate.

2.I implore anyone to speak to the Divinity’s Reach Tour guide in the Ossan District. She TELLS YOU that the Elonians arrived en masse fifty years ago to the area fleeing Palawa Joko. Now why do I mention this? Because fifty years is not enough time for a race to become this diluted to the point of hardly seeing them- in their own district at that. Even she herself does not look Elonan in the least, she has a clearly Ascalonian look to her and she even speaks in a way that denotes that her words were supposed to have accents. Instead the voice actor sounds more like a midwest school teacher trying to have a Swahili accent.

You make the mistake of assuming the Ossan district is wholly Elonian in makeup, or that it has always been primarily Ossan. Let’s assume Divinity’s Reach is like New York. Most of the demographics that dominate the neighborhoods now, and even give them their names, were scarce 50 years ago. Washington Heights was once majorly Jewish, now it’s primarily populated by Caribbean Hispanics, for instance. On the other hand, maybe the Ossan district is gentrifying, and its status as an enclave has kept rents down and attracted new demographics, like the Village transforming from a formerly industrial neighborhood to a hotbed of LGBT, alternative and otherwise “artistic” culture.

3. Minister Zamon in the personal story is supposed to be the Minister of the Ossan Quarter. The man looks more Ascalonian (along with his sister) than even Queen Jennah herself who looks more Elonan than him.

Politicians don’t necessarily have to be indicative of their constituents’ ethnic makeup. Minister Wu makes his residence in the Ossan district, too, it’s not like Zamon solely represents the Ossan district, and the Ossan district is not solely Elonan.

4. While walking around the city I saw an npc introducing himself to some women, there was a dark skinned woman amongst the bunch, she looked Elonan but the man doing the introductions claimed he was Elonan (saying that his name was to be pronounced a certain way because of the pronunciations of the Elonan language". The man did not look at all of the race he said his last name was. Now sure, he could have been mixed, but with as few VISIBLE Elonan npcs walking around it would have been quite nice to see this man looking like one.

Yeah it’s not like these unnamed NPCs aren’t randomly generated or anything… Also, the Elonan language would not realistically resemble Swahili. Elona is based off North Africa, so the language would probably resemble Arabic or Berber.

Divinity’s Reach was cool because it was supposed to be the NYC of GW with its own racial districts and such, and when you see the npcs it looks nothing like this at all.

You’ve probably never been to New York and know little of its history.

Without a heir, any monarchist goverment risk civil war. All nobles want the crown after all and will conspire to get it. A King without a heir is in an extremly vulnerable position because any potential conspirators wouldn’t need to factor the princess, thus reducing any coup to a single assassination.

Is Kryta’s government “monarchist”? The relative power wielded by its legislative body implies a constitutional monarchy of some sort. In the absence of a monarch, the Legate Minister would probably be able to hold the nation together.

And for the record, stopping a dragon who threatens the entire world places higher on the priority list than stopping a war that only involves two races.

I don’t see why Jennah is so integral. Kryta’s government could continue fine with the Legate Minister as the head of government in the event of the monarch’s death, so there’s really no reason to prioritize Jennah’s life over the life of literally everyone else in Tyria.

Except he (very probably) hates charr, which would make the truce impossible.

Play the Caudecus’s Manor dungeon, it’s pretty obvious who’s behind all of it.

Seriously, Caudecus in charge would be pretty awful for some things. We must consider the White Mantle is around, too, and which are the real goals of the mursaat.

A) Do we necessarily know if Caudecus was Legate Minister at the time?
B) Doesn’t the Ministry assist Jennah in public policy? By that point in the story you’d think the treaty would have been run through and ratified by the Ministry

Cantha: What do you think is happening there?

in Lore

My take on it:

-Bubbles would rise between Cantha and Tyria, leaving a huge whirlpool storm where he/she rose. We could visit it as a zone at the beginning. The powers of Bubbles would be centered around water and air.

-He would have tortured Cantha with storms and floods, ruining crops, sinking villages into mud… Cantha would be a huge mess.

-The empire of the dragon would have fallen into his/her hands, manipulated to openly revere him as some kind of “great god” or “savior”, who ironically, would have saved them from the dangers brought by him/her in the first place. Of course, this would make the empire an enemy to beat. Corruption wouldn’t be too extended, only a few champions would actually wield the powers of the dragon.

-The only powerful race would be the naga. Recovered in these 250 years, they would have a capital underwater, and they could be able to detect the machinations of Bubbles, as well as fight the climate. The tengu would be isolated, as well as the rest of the races, but they could be fighting well together with the naga, and some rebel humans. Of course, most humans would be deceived, and would keep supporting the corrupted empire.

-The land would be controlled by the empire. Outposts everywhere, making citizens unable to know what’s going on in the nearest village, that could have been sacrificed entirely to the dragon. The final zone could be an entire part of Kaineng, closed to the population, where the dragon would have built a giant temple, or just some zone hidden and far from Kaineng. A secret and/or closed place. We would witness the power of Bubbles and his minions, yes, but in isolated places, where no survivors can flee to warn anyone else.

-The naga could lead the offensive, being a new playable race (tengu would be playable, too, but before Cantha, probably during the Jormag expansion). Our main goal would be to rebel the citizens and make Bubbles show himself, leading to a final battle where we kill him and free Cantha.

Good to see you’re bringing your naga fetish to other games, Lon-Ami.

The Dragon Empire and the Elder Dragons

in Lore

So there are two major things that stick in my craw when it comes to GW2’s story- one is the total absence of the Dragon Empire of Cantha in Tyria’s affairs (yes, I understand it has an isolationist policy and the sea is cut off by undead corsairs) and two… the unnamed “Sea Dragon”, whose lack of information is rather conspicuous.

What if Cantha has fallen under the thrall of this dragon, or another Elder Dragon? At the very least, for no reason other than name alone, I suspect there is some relationship between the Elder Dragons and Canhta’s Dragon Empire. Cantha is obviously a prime location for an expansion or new campaign, and with Zhaitan being offed relatively early in the lifecycle of GW2 there’s nothing stopping us adventurers from heading there… except this “Deep Sea Dragon”.
