The Giant Assault event in Diessa Plateau

For me the worst thing about this event is that having missed the beginning of it four times I have no idea why a giant is attacking. Most events you can turn up late and get a general idea of what is happening and why, but this just seems to be a giant is attacking kill it. I’ve found no real explanation of why the giant attacks the town or where it comes from.

I actually got pretty lucky in this regard: my first time doing the event I found the original spawn point of the NPCs that kick off the event. It starts off in a small cave in the hills to the southwest of Nageling if I recall. A small group of separatists begin declaring that they are tired of the constant fighting and wish for peace. They start heading towards Nageling while they keep repeating they only want to talk to the leaders in the town and to let them in to negotiate peace terms. When they arrive, the guards, being suspicious, refuse to let them in, but the separatists give them a peace offering anyway. I’m a little iffy about what happens after that but it’s only a couple seconds later when the giant suddenly appears and starts attacking the town.

Of course, this being my first time, I went “oh cool, there’s a giant to kill!” And promptly died to his stomp =(

Personally I’m glad that most female armor in this game at least looks protective rather than the cliche skimpy bikini armor in most games. However, I wouldn’t mind having more revealing light armor. It’s light, so it’s plausible that some sections just won’t be covered at all. In the same trend, make medium armor more protective, but maybe still show a little skin (depending on armor set style, etc), but keep heavy as fully covered (it is, after all, supposed to be the most protective). While this may prevent heavy classes from appealing to those who would prefer “skimpier” clothing, it would diversify the spectrum. Oh and don’t forget to make the male armor revealing as well

Worth playing through GW1 for lore?

After starting GW2 I realized just how much lore was referenced throughout the world and how much backstory I was missing from the first game. I tried reading the wiki for storylines of the first game but honestly, it’s just not the same as experiencing it.

My question is, would it be worth playing through the first game or is the system so atrociously old-school that it would be hard/painful to solo through (I wouldn’t expect to be able to finish the final bosses by myself)?
