North America needs a ranger and Ovi.5473 is one of the few rangers left that plays at a competitive level no matter what the meta calls for. He has played in the Soac tourney and has more tourney games won than most people have games played. As one of the best rangers to still be actively playing he deserves to have a spot on the ballet.

Try this, it’s what I used to run in the 1v1 arenas for gold, made me a nice little fortune. Power is never a good ideas over conditions for rangers. This has more sustain and it does work.

I can not speak for PVE as I’ve never done it, but in PVP rangers are bad. 1v1 They can hold their own, 2v2 they are great. But thats about it, there are classes which excel at these scenarios even more and rangers bring nothing to team fights. The range on our weapons in particular shortbow is too small now so you can’t really be safe in team fights, power is kind of a joke on rangers so longbow is out the question. The class is in need of balance, not hard to make it more viable, simply have it bring some useful team utility and give it a nicer range. Also less passive and more active skills would be very much appreciated.

Hey I don’t normally post cause I have very little faith in the world but here goes. I came back to the game recently and had to endure this spirit meta as a ranger. I’m very happy that spirits are being nerfed but nothing significant is being buffed, asides for a little more damage to longbow rangers aren’t getting anything I would call viable. If this update is to go through as is being presented there would be no reason to take a ranger anymore. My only solution would be to buff the trap ranger build in a very simple and easy to implement way. Increase the distance which rangers can throw traps, that way we would have at least one viable build that brings something to a team fight. As trap rangers are squishy by slightly increasing the range of throwing traps you add to their survivability and bring back an underutilized build. I hope Anet reads this and gives us a bit of an idea as to what their plans and intentions are for rangers in this next update.

Run Wolf for fear and Dog for Immobilize, CC is your friend, especially AOE one, stay back, never get in the fray of the fight throw traps from a distance and spam Axe. Pull foes on recharge unless you are saving for a down. If you are engaged in a main fight whip out sword torch and pull out.

As for PvE my ranger is level 9 lol, but in theory you can trap pull then double trap and should condy blast things easy.

Since BM was nerfed into the ground and now has no more damage I thought I’d revert back to trapper, one of the very few builds still viable to ranger (in tpvp). The build is nothing too different from what most of you have seen before, but I thought I’d put it up there for those who would like to feel useful again in tpvp on a ranger and for those newcomers who would like to pick up the class.

Since the quickness on pet swap trait is now grandmaster level the 10 extra points are best put in nature magic to up your defense against burst, since it is one of the main weaknesses trappers have. Aside from that short bow got nerfed for no logical reason and now has the same range as axe. This makes perfect sense since in real life I can shoot a bow about as far as I can throw an axe (I work out). But the axe offhand changes are about the only real nice thing this update brought, the Axe 4 pull is great since it acts as an interrupt as well and can pull targets right into your traps, where you can axe 2 for 5 stacks of bleed at close range followed by axe 5 depending on the situation. Axe 5 when traited has a nice range and is great for using on top of dead allies to deflect body cleave and even on top of downed foes to aid who ever is trying to stomp with a possible interrupt deflection.

I’ve had a lot of fun so far with this build, and in this new upcoming condy heavy meta I hope you guys will too. I’m always free to help people with any ranger questions and if anyone wants I can teach them how “I” play ranger.

Ranger has not changed at all since the update asides from tankier pets. Other classes were just made weaker. Ranger is far from OP.

That’s a very interesting spec, far too reliant on close range combat however making it a unnecessary target. Weapon swap bleed is also reliant on close range, the point of taking a bow is putting distance while pet just hammers from melee. Even with all the dodges and toughness the close range fighting seems like a deterrent. I’ll try the build out myself though, it certainly looks fun.

Some valid points Battosai, but I don’t quite follow your reasoning for a few. Healing spring is nice when it comes to team fights but not as effective in 1v1’s or smaller skirmishes as the heal it provides you with is 6k max and that’s with a clerics amulet. The extra regen is nice but unnecessary with the traits and runes in the build, and of course even if I stack all that duration it’s rare for regen to stay on me for full duration and not get stripped, diminishing the 5k heal I would get for it if fully traited into heal. Trolls heals for 9k, can’t be stripped, tics per second as opposed to a burst heal which is perfect for such a tanky build with already many sources of natural regen on top. Cast time is not an issue as it is rarely interrupted with decent positioning.
- The IV trait granting vigor on heal is very nice, especially with the tic from spring but not as valuable when bringing Lightning Reflexes which already grants 11 seconds of vigor. LR is priceless considering the only time you would be dying on this build is when your mobility is cut down drastically. When immobilized it provides an extra dodge excluding sword two and three and short bow 3 which is highly necessary since most will be used on cooldown. For those who don’t know what I mean by extra dodge, you can not dodge when immobilized but can still activate skills that provide a dodge making you invulnerable on the spot.
- As for your choice in weapons axe torch and sword dagger? I could understand sword dagger but never dropping a shortbow for an axe and torch, the shortbow utility is far too strong, 10 second poison, dodge + swiftness, bleed on properly positioned auto attacks, snare, and an interrupt which is crucial to stopping allies from being stomped and enemies from rezzing.
- Signet of the Hunt, and agility training I completely agree with on this build, it was a mishap on my part when linking this old build with some new more practical flare. I would bring agility training alone and would not take signet of the hunt prior to quickness nerf I would have QZ for the 5 second stomps and rezzes, as well as the strong burst. Now QZ is not worth bringing for clear reasons.

Completely agree, this is a serious issue that needs to be addressed if the ladder is to have any “legitimacy”.

Search And Rescue? I messed around with it a bit but I don’t like it, the res is minuscule compared to quickness pet swap resign, I get that it puts distance between you and the corpse but it’s too situational. I experimented with it and found the only way it would be worth taking would be if it could self rez you if timed properly. But it doesn’t like the spirit elite so really no point to it.
