Suggestions to improve quality of play in WvW

Good suggestions. WvW is simply a player blob war with lots and lots of running around. They need to add PvPvE side objectives; timed objectives that ping the entire map; vicinity triggers that indicate concentrated player populations in any given area or around objectives; revamp siege adding defensive engiines like scorpions and ballistas so you dont simply spam rams and have to construct trebuchets/catapults; buff gate/wall health to encourage longer, more meaningful battles and the use of ranged artillery; increase XP/reward gain to make it all worthwhile; add ladders, sapping points, the ability for thieves to climb walls/engineers to contruct gliders for airborne assaults, add ways to sneak into objectives (forts/castles/whatever,) etc. etc. etc.

griff I would love it if they reworked WvW some. Polished it, added features, etc. SoPP, I don’t know what teh hell you are talking about. The best guess I have is you still play WvW but have “moved on” from it in the fact you are settling for what WvW is instead of the amazing potential, if realized, that would make it excellent. If that is true, you will not see me there. If I don’t find a server large enough to make WvW practical and if they don’t add at least small features to improve it then I probly will be uninstalling GW2 or playing it very rarely.

I’ve been hopping servers to try and find a large population so WvW isn’t 85-95% wandering around looking for people to play with/against. However, during that process I got locked out. Apparently, for some odd reason, one cannot change servers that often and when you change to another server that was part of the WvW server face off you get locked out of WvW for being a traitor.

Now to my question, can anyone suggest a highly populated server? The things I would like to know are; Server name, approximate time you played and Country you live in, how many people you come across in PvE during an hour’s worth of gameplay, and the least and most amount of players you have seen in WvW. Thanks.

I looked in the News and Announcements but found no mention of WvW. Can anyone tell me if any WvW updates are planned? From my week of playtime so far, I think WvW needs work done on it. I detail suggestions here if anyone wants to give their opinion;

Before you decide to go critique that post though, be sure to leave any info about WvW if you have any. Thanks in advance.

I’ll start off by saying I’ve only played GW2 for about a week, switching servers to find a decent population and got locked out because of teh server transfer time limit so have to wait a week or whatever before I can play again. I never play MMOs if they don’t have PvP. PvE is far too mindless for me. Killing 50 walking, talking mushrooms to lvl up/complete quests is simply put dull as hell. GW2 has much more interesting, entertaining, and purposeful PvE than the usual MMO (WoW) but I am still very much focused on PvP. The only reason I got GW2 was cause of teh WvW. Thought it would be like Warhammer Online but better. However, while I enjoy GW2, I have to admit I am disappointed with it. It needs more features added, more polishing IMO.

-WvW is designed for far too many people, and even though everyone is lvl’d to 80, gear and more advanced abilities make that fact utterly pointless. Players with lower lvl abilities and less/worse pvp gear will lose just as a lvl 10 fighting a lvl 80 would. It is imbalanced as hell and the maps are too big. Wandering around for 10-15 mins just to get owned in a 1v1, ambushed by Thieves, or nuked by a zerg is not an entertaining use of time. I detailed some good suggestions that would help fix these issues here;

- The PvP matches are pretty generic. You are lvl’d to 80 so there’s no advancement. I asked, and was told you don’t even get XP and I was expecting to be able to lvl up purely off PvP in GW2 like in WAR. But, it beats having to wait ages in queues and getting owned by people camping the highest lvl in lvl brackets like in most other MMOs.

I already deleted my characters, so switching between regions is no problem. I plan on trying JQ and BG soon. Hopefully one of those will be populated enough. Thx for teh suggestions, feel free to suggest more servers all.

Thanks for all teh info folks, appreciate it. I tried " Far Shiverpeaks" but, being a EU server it wasn’t too active for me in teh US. I’ll give JQ a try but feel free to keep suggesting servers everyone. EU or NA I don’t care as long as it has decent activity. On a side note why don’t they have international servers…?

I don´t really understand your point. You “prefer leveling in pvp”. You go to a pvp area. There you get owned, not only by the mighty zerg, but also 1v1. So, what is the issue? A shame those guys fight back and don´t let you have those xp?

Very obviously, the context of the statement implied I hate PvE so some unintelligent fellow doesn’t just whine; “Go level up THEN play WvW, DUuUuur.” I prefer to lvl off PvP like was very possible in Warhammer Online. The issue could be inferred and resolved from my suggestions if they were implemented. I’m not going to spell it all out for you, read.

All good info, guess I’ll be waiting till after the 15th when the megaserver system is in place to go server hopping.

I’m lazy, and don’t like going through the news articles. If anyone knows if WvW is getting updated, and if it is what features are being added, feel free to reply.

Lastly, I don’t know if I should actually start a new post for this or not, and I’m sure someone else has already done this, but can people who are on active servers give teh server name? “Far Shiverpeaks” is supposed to be an active one as stated my Mirta (Thx btw,) so I’ll probly hop to that one first and see. Be sure to include the level range and game mode (PvE/PvP) you experienced activity on and, most importantly, include how active WvW is on the server you suggest.

While we are at it, feel free to include dead servers as well. The server I am on currently is Gate of Madness. In the 1-15 PvE zones in Queensdale, the Human starting area, I am lucky to see 2-4 other players in an hour of game time. I almost never see other groups except the champion train which is usually always going on and consists of roughly 8-12 players. The pvp matches seem to be fairly active with about 8 nearly full games if I remember correctly. The WvW on GoM is pretty lousy with about 50 people being the most I have ever seen on one map location and 30 being the usual. Tons of running around empty places in Gate of Madness WvW.

Interesting points, guess I shoulda went server hopping before I decided to lvl my characters. But to be clear, I said the trials were “infrequent.” I would like people to focus on my suggestions as well. Like them? Hate them? WHY?

I’ll start by saying that I was extremely suspicious when I went to research GW2 before buying it. No (OK, VERY infrequently offered) trial and no tally of server populations (being told total accounts on a server is utterly pointless unless you’re told total ACTIVE accounts) really made me think twice about buying GW2. I probably wouldn’t have if it wasn’t on sale.

Now I see why. The game is designed to house a gigantic population. I’ve only made it to lvl 15, so I ain’t sure if it gets better or if it’s the server I picked, but PvE maps are very sporadically populated as is teh enormous WvW map. The megaserver system should eventually fix teh PvE issue (hopefully) but in my fair, honest opinion there’s WAY WAAAY too much running around in WvW. I bought GW2 specifically and only for PvP. Well I planned on doing 85% PvP and 15% PvE, and that’s only if the PvE was fun. I read about teh public quests and active events then thought the PvE in GW 2 was going to be something different and fun; pleasantly that is the case. I usually abhor PvE but GW 2 PvE is surprisingly entertaining and engaging, not the old kill 200 walking mushrooms to level up WoW BS.

However, the PvP side of GW 2 has been very disappointing so far. WvW could use some work, imo. As a lvl 15 (I prefer to lvl up on PvP) wandering around looking for other players to fight with I found myself running for 10-15 minutes then getting ambushed, assassinated, or owned in 1v1s constantly. When I do make it clear across teh map to an allied champion battles are very brief and unsatisfying. As is, WvW is all about making a player blob and rushing through everything. As a low lvl player everyone else is usually faster than you, too. That means there’s barely any fighting for you, really most everyone, to do and you have the constant chance to miss out on reward due simply to speed difference. There’s no prolonged epic battles, no long (or even normal length) skirmishes, it’s just one side steamrolling over the other. I was a great fan of Warhammer Online while it was available. WAR had great Realm VS Realm combat. It had the basic good stuff like objective points that start a countdown timer which ping contested on teh whole map when players try to cap them. WvW could benefit from the same points, but add a “no contest timer” in addition to the longer countdown that’ll cause the point to cap if no one tries to defend it but resets if anyone does so people dont have to ALT TAB or fall asleep when they cap those points. I know big battles are marked on the map, but when players near Keeps, Outposts, Towers, or whatever they’re all called, the map could display the amount of players or simply execute a color coded ping when a certain number of players are in teh area. translucent for 0-5, green for 5-10, yellow for 10-20, red for 20+. There could also be a lot of PvE side-objectives added geared specifically for low lvl poorly equipped players consisting of a group of 1-5 members. Taking over orc camps, or those frog people, or whatever, helping out allied NPCs fight evil NPCs, etc. BUT make it so it takes a little time to do and PING the OBJ contested on the map to invite PvP. I would also highly suggest open world PvP but that’d just be marauding high lvls owning everyone, unless they were severely handicapped (much more than is) for entering low lvl areas. Lower the level area higher the handicap. Overall GW 2 is an extremely promising game that could indeed be truly great with some more development and I am only slightly regretful for purchasing it.

Again, I am still a low lvl and if anyone would like to point something out or offer valid, logical argument they are welcome to.
