Bugged World Bonuses

How can you tell if you are receiving the bonuses or not? In the betas there was a rook symbol near the health orb that you can hover over to see the bonuses but I haven’t seen that since release. I’ve been on the same server since BWE1.

It’s at the top left of the screen now. You can mouse over the guild and WvW icons to see what bonuses you’re getting. I’ve been on Ehmry Bay since the day of release and haven’t swapped once and still don’t get bonuses, nor have I ever got them in any previous matchups.

You should be able to see whether you have them just by hovering over the tower icon at the top of the UI. When I mouse over guild I see the karma/exp/magic find bonuses, but when I mouse over the WvW icon I see absolutely nothing. Friends who do get the bonuses confirm that you can see them when mousing over.

Not talking about guild upgrades dude. Your entire server gets bonuses depending on how many points you have in WvW, hit B and you can see all the bonuses. They’re supposed to apply both in and out of the WvW maps, but I (and a ton of others) currently never get the bonuses regardless of what map they’re on. Half the people I ask do get them, the other half don’t. Seems to be a pretty sizable amount of people who don’t either way, so it’d be nice if Anet could at least acknowledge the bug.

I wasn’t really sure how these worked, or else I would have made this sooner. But thanks to a discussion with a friend I have realized I’m not getting any of the listed world bonuses (gather rate up, craft rate up, faster endurance recovery, etc) from WvW. I have been on this server since character creation on the day of release, so there is no reason I shouldn’t be getting them, but I do not get any of the bonuses nor do they show up when I mouse over the WvW icon at the top of the interface. Most of my friends are all getting the bonus, but a couple of others I asked are not either. I could understand those who swapped servers not receiving them for X amount of time, but I have been on Ehmry Bay since I made my very first character and am not still receiving them.

These bonuses become quite significant (especially in terms of gathering and crafting) towards the end of the week, so it would be nice if this could be looked in to.

i’ve actually had the opposite experience. i’ve tried several times to group with people on other servers and not once has it worked for a dungeon. everyone on my server can zone in just fine and the lone person on the other server can never join us. annoying and most likely unintentional

Pre-patch I never had issues. Now I just had one friend completely unable to get in. Just managed to get someone else to test it and they got in just fine though, so I guess I shouldn’t have made this thread in such haste. Must just be the same bug everyone else is having where it throws people in to separate dungeons for whatever reason. Just gotta try about 50 times to get everyone in the same instance until they fix this I suppose. Doesn’t help that there’s no way to “reset” dungeons manually or anything so everyone has to relog and hope it actually worked.

Had no issues running dungeons with friends on other servers before, the entry would pop up on their screen as if they were on the same server and we’d run together just fine, it was perfect. Is this an intentional change or just another bug to add to the long list this patch seems to have added?

I was actually debating making a thread on this myself earlier. As for how it effects the economy, it means you are taking extra materials out of the world to gear up your alt characters, as opposed to just sharing gear across them. If, for example, I play 4 characters who make use of a Greatsword, I could share a single one across the four of them rather than making 4 separate ones. If we’re talking exotic 80 gear, this takes out 15 more ectoplasms, 15 more fine mats and whatever amount of Orichalcum Ore are required. But personally, I see this as extremely insignificant, and even across such a large player base I can’t see it making a notable impact. In the long run, the cost of making exotics is pretty cheap, and different professions utilize different stat combos. Even with the ability to share them across characters, I’d most certainly end up just making 4 separate ones anyway. This is, as far as I can tell, the only “beneficial” reason for Soulbound even existing.

On the other side of the coin, it feels like a punishment for those who choose to play multiple characters. Making dungeon tokens account bound is a good first step, but there is still a lot of stuff I’d never make use of that could go a long way in helping me gear up my alts until I hit 80 and craft them exotics. The occasional rare accessories I find that are immediately soulbound when I pick them up are absolutely useless to me, why can’t I use these on another character instead of having to vendor it for a silver or two? Right now I’m currently starting to build up karma and gold/materials to work on a Legendary weapon. This will take both myself and most other players a few months to complete at a minimum. I realize this is a fairly extreme case, as most players probably will never bother aiming for one, but is there a single valid reason we shouldn’t be able to use these on multiple characters? I love how the Sword looks, but as a Guardian it isn’t often I resort to using one, which puts me off such a heavy investment for it. If I could use it on my Mesmer and Thief, I’d probably go for it in a heartbeat.

tl;dr: I think Soulbound should be scrapped entirely. Anyone should be able to see the benefit of item binding as a whole, but limiting it to a single character feels more like a punishment when you could make stuff account bound instead. At the very least, I think they should consider changing the things I mentioned (accessory drops and legendary weapons). I’ll probably make a thread in the suggestions forum on this later/tomorrow if someone hasn’t beat me to it. It’d be nice to hear more input from the community or an ANet employee beforehand though.
